"That is the nature of those who honor the past. They see its value, even if it may not be realized in the moment." The Archivist finishes her tea before addressing the group as a whole. "Now then, unless you have other demands, here is how I see it: Mr. Jonk here is amiable to financial and material compensation, I assume your tight-lipped pink haired associate is as well, though I wouldn't have minded getting to know her better. As for you, the scrolls of the Ri'viod. In return, those who have left here will not be pursued and information about the particulars of this archive will remain undisclosed. Do we have an understanding?"

"So you were a member of the Mar'viosh, or something akin to it I presume?" The Archivist focuses upon Enson, "My race continuously experience the memories of our elders in The Remembering, we recall the O'Kor'uk's rise to power and their downfall and subsequent subjugation, the days the great Groves were burned and felled... I believe I have something in my archive that you may indeed find of use. During the Pluravian conquest of Vin'quo, a number of artifacts were captured by the Ytaxxi and relocated to Hi-Pluvvon. During the most recent war with the League a number of the Imperial museums were shuttered and their private collections auctioned off to help fund the fighting. So saying, this vault now houses the Ri'viod, The Children of the Delta, scrolls detailing the genealogical history of Quo'ri generations stretching back before the invasion of the planet. I assume they were taken so that no-one could question the legitimacy of the installed aristocracy. I'd imagine in the right hands, these scrolls could be used to bring instability to certain established governmental structures of Vin'quo, no? A culture so steeped in tradition and honor, would find it difficult to tolerate such deception on a wide scale." MM Note: @Peppermint_M Anything to add?

MM Note: So sorry folks, apparently my last post didn't actually upload. The archivist's eyes narrow as she studies Enson trying to ascertain his motives. "Perhaps, though I'm sure you'd find parts of the collection better suited to such an undertaking itself rather than as fodder for the coffers of a war. Though, rebellions do have a tendency to bury history, something I'm sure you know I like avoiding. Why, are you intending to lead one?" "Excellent, then I'll wait for your companions thoughts on the offer."

Jonk Deception Check vs. Achivist Insight Check - (3,1,1) 0 Success vs. (6,2,1,2,1,6) 2 Successes "Hmm... An outfit like yours could hardly demand such a high fee. No, I'd say somewhere along the line of 150 credits, some sort of treasure or artifact, and of course business contacts would be satisfactory." MM Note: You're going to make me do the hard work. "The Quo'ri value both beauty and tradition. Perhaps you would care for a sapling of the Alurien Moon Oak, a species of plant known only to the world before the annihilation of the planet. The songs of generations of the fair folk grew these trees into the first of their living starcraft. Sonicsomatic in nature, the plant is shaped to the will of the musician who imparts meaning to it." The Cladrasith sips in thought, "Or maybe you are more concerned with something of more historical value? A lost chapter of the 'Book of the Sky' written by the wife of Ar’Kon’il and detailing the steps required for her lover's return. Of course there is always those who wish to know more about Gate Builders. In which case, perhaps a miniturized Æthergate would be of interest?"

"Well, perhaps you'd like to share what you were getting paid to break in here in the first place?" Jonk Perception Check (DC 1,3) - (5,3,5) 2 Successes The guards shuffle from foot to foot, equally assessing the threat of the heroes given how many of their fellow employees were already dead. "Of course you don't. The Quo'ri are rarely ones to hoard wealth. That part of the collection was donated from a sect of the Thaumaturgic Society, most of the containment units are spell powered. You have to understand, while this is a collection, there is a good amount that others would have preferred destroyed than preserved. Remnants of civilizations, lost species, artifacts from bygone ages. You only breached the Western Vault, where the living specimens are stored. The Eastern Vault houses the true valuables of the collection. Substances from around the galaxy. Examples of all artistry and creativity from across the millennia. Tell me, what excites you? What mysteries still puzzle you?"

"Milk and sugar of course." The Cladrasith adjust Jonk's tea and passes him the cup. As the celestial sips the hot beverage he notes a warmer tone and an aroma that includes cinnamon, cocoa, and dried apricots. "In my many years, I've learned to overlook people's first knee-jerk reactions and found most disagreements are better handled with diplomacy over violence." The Archivist takes a sip from her tea, "As for an offer, as I said, I recognize talent, and your group has been most efficient in working your way through my facility. You were sent here to complete a job and from my understanding that is now complete. The simplest offer would be to let you leave here alive. However, considering some of you may harbor certain qualms, I'm sure we could come to a certain material recompense as a show of appreciation for discretion." "Interesting, is that a trait of your kind or simply a matter of preference?"

<You can count on us.> "It's a big universe. Lots of things go missing. Lots of things require hiding. Lots of things require storage. But we'll discuss that... come." The Archivist and her guards lead the group through the main hall and to the door that the heroes had previously found locked. Inside sits a rather large conference room, several comfy chairs and an oversized table fill the space with a number of display cases lining the walls. The archivist pours a cup of tea from a newly placed kettle and begins to sip it before pouring a cup for Jonk. "How do you take your tea, Mr. Jonk? The rest of you? It's a fine leaf. Exceedingly rare Oquim Oolong."

"Ah, I see." Enson Persuasion vs. Archivist Persuasion - (5,3,5,4) 3 Success vs. (4,4,1,6,1,2,3,2) 3 Successes "A Menahi, Dwarf, and Ornithun, hardly rare gems in the collection. I trust the Dwarf learned his lesson. Very well, they may go." "If they ignored her disappearance in the first place, I doubt they'll make note of her reappearing... As for your organization. I hear it's not quite what it was, down on hard times so I've heard. Struggling to maintain memberships. Would be surprised if someone didn't offer to buy it out sooner or later for the real estate." Enson Insight Check (DC 3) - (6,3,1,2) 1 Success If the Cladrasith was bluffing, her face certainly didn't show it. The lines and creases of the elderly Archivist betrayed little of her emotions. "Of course. Now, shall we?"

"After collecting for nearly a century, I can assure you it is of the highest quality." "Civility is but a tool, knowing when to employ it is the trick. As for paying for my crimes, exactly how much is that cost?" "What makes you believe I have need of more assassins? Surely you don't believe this facility has existed for so long without ensuring that certain prying eyes are kept dutifully blinded. By rest you refer to the collection I assume?"

"Hello Jonk, you're a celestial are you not? Yes, I think you'll find the seating in my office more comfortable." The Cladrasith spots Aysu and addresses her with a warm smile. "Well and who and what might you be" "Oh, you doubt my hospitality? Amusing... any quarrel with me is also with them, or do you doubt who pays their salary." Enson Performance Check vs. Archivist Persuasion Check - (4,4,1,2) 2 Successes vs. (6,6,2,3,4,2,3,2) 3 Successes The guards adjust their weapons, but seem unfazed by Enson's tactics. "Judgement you say? You wouldn't be the first. I won't argue with your conclusions, I came to accept who I am long ago. I am a woman of particular tastes and talents and the collection behind you is the testament to those skills. Talent recognizes talent however, which is why I'd prefer to discuss things instead of tossing you into a containment pod and throwing away the combination. Of course if you really want to try and enact your 'judgement' then I won't have much of a choice in the matter. So about the tea, shall I put a kettle on?" Enson Meditates to full spirit.

The vault door opens revealing the group Enson had just noted after trying to teleport. A well dressed Cladrasith stands accompanied by four well armed guards, her foliage resembling cherry blossoms. The heroes note an additional four thugs standing nervously at the exits from the main hall. "Well, you lot have caused quite the stir in my schedule today. Destroyed my front entryway, killed the good doctor, ruined a trade deal with the Corvians, stolen priceless artifacts, and let loose dangerous beasts. I'm not quite sure what sort of treatment you expect, but I can say I'm willing to be reasonable. Do you take tea?"

Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars - Rules & FAQ
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
I reached out to Kintobor for an update, if I don't hear anything I'll wrap it up and have the heroes return to the hall. Characters will still receive experience for the mission. -
The camera swivels in affirmation. Enson briefly materializes outside the vault doors, but in a semi translucent almost ethereal state, his body finding difficulty materializing. The Quo'ri notes a gathering of guards and a robed figure walking toward the vault from the previously locked door in the main hall. Even as Enson attempts to maintain his bodily hold he can feel himself slipping and is shunted back into the vault, unable to complete the teleport stymied by some magical ward. MM Note: Big update in 24hrs.

Jonk Perception Check (DC 1,3,5) - (2,5,3,5,) 2 Successes The vault extends for a good distance to the party's left and right, though the numbering of the containment units indicates that the path creates a loop. Jonk does spot a security camera above the vault door that moves to focus upon them. The ceiling is dark and obscured and difficult to search for ventilation ducts.

Of the 200 living specimens, it appeared another 50 were in some sort of stasis. As Enson stepped inside the sick dwarf lunged at him. "Yrrggg!" Enson Athletic Check (DC 1) - (2,2,6) 1 Success The Quo'ri quickly sidesteps as his patient rams into the glass. Restraining the dwarf with three of his arms, Enson jams the concoction down the victim's throat. After a few more struggles the dwarf goes limp and sinks to the floor. A minute passes, two, three and then the pale translucent color begins to disappear from Jippo's skin and after another minute or two he sits up. "Yeesh, I've got a splittin' headache, feel like I've been roused from the dead, I do. Who are you lot? Where am I?" At that moment an alarm begins to sound and the vault door closes, trapping the heroes and the newly rescued Jippo inside. "I'm guessing that ain't a good sign, no?"

Graw leaves the vault and soon returns with a boiled liver. "I think I'll be getting out of here if it's all the same to you. You lot got a name or something? Are you part of Space Police?" "What do we have to lose?" Enson and Rix Medicine Check (DC 5) - (6,6,5,5,5,2 4,4,4,1,1,2, +1) 6 Successes Against all odds, Enson and Rix manage to work together and painstakingly slowly mix, filter, titrate, and distill a bright pink tincture. Now all that remained was to test it. "Think it'll work?"

"It'd be nice to know how to get out of here." Jonk Athletics Check (DC 2) - (6,4,6,+1) 4 Successes The Celestial shatters the crystal into tiny fragments with a single strike from the exo-suit, leaving a dent in the floor. "I imagine we can just cut into that thing for the silk, no?" Aysu finds that 200 are currently living. 50 are labeled as deceased.

Enson grabs the spider and heads back to Jonk, Graw, and Aysu in the West Vault. Rax hobbles his way into the room. "What now?" "Gladly." Jonk and Graw Nature Check (DC2) - (2,5,2,1,5) 2 Successes With Graw's help, Jonk is able to carve out the liver of the Landsquid.

“Well, I’ve chopped up my fair share of calamari in my day. Need some assistance, do ya?” Enson Engineering Check (DC 2) - (3,3,2,+1) 1 Success A high pitched alarm begins to sound as Enson fails to disable the device. After 5 minutes, it quits.

Enson restores all of his Spirit and inspects the case. Enson Engineering Check (DC 1) - (2,3,4,+1) 2 Successes Enson spots an alarm in the corner of the specimen cabinet. Aysu filter through the collection and finds at least 250 entries of containment units categorized as risk level (high) or risk level (extreme).

The terminal seems to have survived the conflict unscathed. "Does this sound right, first you've got to pulverize a Lighting Crystal, then add some melted spider babies, followed by bits of a yellow flower, and then a stewed squid organ, afterwards mixing and straining the liquid into a bottle for consuming?" The pair arrive at the cabinet of arachnids. MM Note: Feel free to ignore the frog in the corner. Jonk Skill Check - (DC 2) - (4,3) 1 success = 1 Elemental Damage As Jonk tries to remove the crystal a bolt of electricity jumps from the rock to his hand giving him a slight shock. After making contact with the gem's surface however, the sensation quickly passes and Jonk finds himself in the posession of a Lightning Crystal

"Would you believe me if I said yes?" Rix grimaces as Enson heals him. Standing up, he dusts himself up and indicates the doctor. "Well, I suppose you can put together the bad news, no? As for the good news, guess who squeezed the recipe for a potential cure out of him?"
