Whoopee, another list thread! Ah, too many to list... Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: As for other mahou shoujo, the opening sequences for Kaitou Saint Tail, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's were also nicely done... And now for something completely different... Kido Senshi Gundam, 8th MS Team: As for shonen and seinen manga in general, throw in (in no particular order) Gundam Wing (the old stuff ends here), Kanon, AIR, CLANNAD, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, CLANNAD After Story... Huh? Western shows? Um, Scrubs was pretty good...

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Fallenangel replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
According to peeron, there shouldn't even have been transparent diamonds in the set. I'd say you've got yourself a nice little present from The LEGO Group. -
Agreed. The answer I like to use is that most kids wouldn’t notice (not being familiar with ships like the Falcon in the first place). Seeing as 4504 seems more like a “playset” Falcon than a “swooshing” Falcon, I wouldn’t expect it to. 7778 was great for swooshing, though. Hate is such a strong word... I prefer ‘criticism’. Of course, criticism can become negative and/or border on nitpicking, but the mandibles and the cockpit are hardly something that anyone adequately familiar with the Falcon wouldn’t notice right off the bat. Considering the accuracy of The LEGO Group’s UCS sets prior to 10179 I would say that it was the best rendition of the Falcon they had released – at least, far better than 7190 and 4504 in terms of getting the feel of the ship. Indeed, they have. Xerxes Fett refers to it as "pulling a LEGO". Too true. Little, simple choices like the use of a 2x4 wing plate can make all the difference.

According to Anio, roughly 1.22m.

Bah! What is a 'new sets' thread for? There's no need to join in on a discussion if you don't think it's worthwhile. Besides, how are we being too critical? All we're doing is commenting on the aesthetics of the set. 6212 X-wing and 4500 Rebel Snowspeeder have already proven that a LEGO set can look like crap while still selling well for being fun and playable, and 7965 is no exception. As Ki-Adi-Mundi had mentioned, even if 7965 doesn't look as much like the Falcon as some of us would want it to, it's still got a lot of playability, and anyone wishing to fix the look of the set can just Flail it. Now, if you're saying that we shouldn't even mention things like the mandibles and the cockpit, I will say again, why else would this thread be here? To talk about minifigures?
-
You could always just build a cockpit with bricks or use a mold.
-
... which is probably more than we got in the first few years of the license. I wouldn't complain about the lack of new minifigures nowadays. Or maybe it's becaus the aliens AFOLs have wanted the most (Ithorian, Aqualish, Bith, etc) haven't yet been granted (though we've had plenty of other fan favorites in recent years, such as Twi'Lek, Mon Calamari, Talz, and Togruta). Also, I think Hasbro would get mad if The LEGO Group were to sell collectible licensed Star Wars minifigures since it's Hasbro that has the rights to action figures. On top of that, I really don't think a desired minifigure should be the main focus of a LEGO set (one selling point, yes, as in 7931, but not the central purpose of the set) because that takes away from the 'building' aspect... but that's just me.

That I can. But Flynn of FBTB has already covered the major issues in great detail: I think the best way to illustrate my point is through pictorial comparisons. So, let's pull up a picture of the new Falcon: And for a comparison, here's the Flail-modified 4504, which positions the cockpit correctly: Now, unlike the original 4504, the new Falcon does integrate the cockpit with the rest of the ship quite well, rather than having it stick out like an afterthought as in 4504. Still, if you compare the two pics, it just isn't far back enough- it still juts out to the mandibles, which is just should not do. The problem is that the cockpit is connected to the rest of the ship at the wrong angle- if you look at the modded 4504, it's not nearly as exaggerated as the last two Falcons make it out to be. Incidentally, it's funny that you should mention the first Falcon, because if you look in this pic, it appears that the 7190 cockpit, despite being poorly integrated with the rest of the ship, is the only system-scaled cockpit to be positioned correctly with the rest of the ship. I think my main problem with the mandibles is how poorly integrated they are with the rest of the ship- the cockpit suffers from the same problem. Again, take a look at the modded 4504, and compare it to the new Falcon. The modded set looks like one piece. The cockpit and mandibles are cleanly integrated with the hull of the ship, leaving only small gaps, and overall looking like a singular ship. The new one, on the other hand, looks disjointed and disconnected. The mandibles don't flow at all with the rest of the ship, the cockpit is too big and sticks out, and there are huge gaps all over the front. It doesn't feel like one piece, it feels like a circular hull that had the cockpit and mandibles just glued on as an afterthought. It's a horrible design, and in some ways is even a step down from the original 4504. And the mandibles themselves aren't that fantastic, either. For no apparent reason, they went back to the printed 2 x 2 tiles from 7190 instead of the 3 x 3 dishes of 4504. Additionally, they're positioned too far back on the mandibles themselves, making the whole thing look disproportionate and under-detailed. Also, this may only be my imagination, but I still feel that gap in between the mandibles is way too big. It's something that even Flail didn't look to modify, and I wonder why- it seems clear that the gap should be four studs wide instead of the usual six, and a simple thickening of the mandibles solves that problem and makes the mandibles much more well-proportioned. To answer your question: Okay, okay, so I'm not expecting LEGO to all of a sudden put that sort of detail into the interior- while doing so would result in an awesome Falcon, it would come at the expense of an increase in the already-inflated price. Still, though, it annoys me that we're at the third version of a System-scaled Falcon, and this is the interior we get. It's not an absolutely awful interior, admittedly, and it does come with its perks- Han's console is very well designed, the Dejarik board and seats are, as you pointed out, much improved over 4504, and we do finally get honest-to-goodness smuggling compartments, a belly gunner, and beds to boot. So, yeah, we get some nice things. The problem is that overall this feels like we're only halfway through the instruction manual. It doesn't feel complete- there are huge, empty spaces in between all the rooms, the floor is just plates (Even 4504 had the big grill pieces for detail), and what we do get just feels like they were put in as an afterthought. The seating is just brown chairs placed around the same old chess board, the hyperdrive is an absolute travesty, and the beds aren't really anything to scream about, design-wise. It feels as if all the design of the interior went into the gunner stations, with the rest of it being thrown in at the last second. 4504 and 7190 may not have had the best interiors either, but theirs actually felt like care and thought was put into the interiors- the back half of 4504 is, I think, extremely well designed, especially the hyperdrive. The new interior just feels rushed, incomplete, and definitely should not be what we get in a 140 dollar set. I can't vouch for 4504 as I've only built the Flail'd version (Which fixes the structural problems), but I do know that 7190 is quite stable, and while the underside of the ship is not perfect, it is a good deal better than the technic mess of the new version. I definitely see what you mean about the piece count and price, but looking over the pictures, it seems like they could have at least slapped on a few plates to cover it up and still stay at the already-high price point. In addition to the cockpit and the mandibles (the two most noticeable issues) I can add a few more: - The docking pods should be taller than the 'rounded' portions of the ship (as seen here), e. g. the "tongue" in the front is too tall - There is no attempt to accurately represent the Falcon's true color scheme at all (unlike 7778, which at least tried) - If you ask me, there is way too much space around the quadlasers turrets' side walls I would have to agree with Brickdoctor here. 7778 was better...

Assuming that a significant portion of the members here check the first page, I can see it working as a poll, with Moderators adding any new ideas and members voting for those that they like. Moderators would also have the power to remove any ideas that have already been granted or that seem like spam... of course, this can't be done with the thread we have now, so we would have to start fresh,

Could you provide a clip? I recall having seen all of those droids except for R-3PO (2-1B was obviously with Luke in the scruffy nerfherder scene, K-3PO behind the ion cannon control station, and I think FX-7 near the bacta tank). Oh, and it's nice that they made an effor to make 7964 slimmer than 7665. It will still require extensive modfication to get it thin enough (or a rebuild from the ground up, whichever is more efficient) but overall pretty good. The Wolffe guy has to be one of the creepiest minifigures from The Clone Wars yet - his stubble makes him look like an old man with one eye.
-
I think we've seen all of those ideas before... I'll say it again: we really need a better-organized thread for this.
-
So has anyone been able to spot him in the film?

Now that you mention it again...

From andrewqwy's description, it doesn't sound like either of those criteria have been met. I don't see why The LEGO Group would include vehicles or the main characters when both are already available in 6212 (unless this means they're re-releasing the X-wing?), but hey, they're there! I have to admit, though, that I find the lack of vehicles rather strange; even 8038 and 7754 had something substantial in that field (i.e . an AT-ST and an A-wing respectively). Hopefully this means we'll see some really nice playset elements reminiscent of what we've seen in other lines. From The LEGO Group's recent efforts to include rare minifigures whenver possible, I was very much expecting General Rieekan to be featured in this set, but instead we get a red 3PO. Hmm. I'm not usually one to focus too much on the minifigures in a set, but if instead of Luke, Han, and Leia (who are already available in 6212) the set had included, say, Rieekan and some Rebel troops, this would have worked nicely as a companion set with 6212 and the upcoming 7965. (Which reminds me - can 4504 fit through the doors in 7666?) I'm reminded of Klaus-Dieter and his expectations as to the minifigures in this set...

This thread isn't about me, it's about cavegod's sandcrawler. Personal issues are why we have PM.

People can't find anything good to say about 7877, so instead they talk about the box art... I couldn't believe it either. It's unusual to see The LEGO Group put so much effort into a box. In any case, the N-1 can be ranked next to the X-wing, T-47, Delta-7, and Falcon as one of those ships that they no longer intend to rework...unfortunate. I happen to think that the slope pieces in the front were sort of a minor improvement for this set. I would have to agree with drdavewatford though: However, as The LEGO Group has decided that this is the "look" they're going to stay with for this particular ship, I guess we'll just have to live with it.
-
The former statement is subjective, so I won't respond to that. As for the latter, the 125cm model is the only complete, tangible sandcrawler I am aware of. The full-scale model was only partially constructed (i. e. the area I mentioned wasn't built) and all scenes not featuring the miniature used matte paintings or CGI renders. So what more reliable reference would there be? Neither the Essential Guide nor the Incredible Cross-sections have proved to be particularly reliable.
-
Who's criticizing? He could have done it either way. On the one hand, if he felt it necessary, he could have added more brown to that area; on the other hand, if he felt it was better for whatever reason, he could have added more grey. It's obviously not accurate, but it doesn't detract from how recognizable the MOC is - in fact, I would say it enhances the MOC by getting the 'weathered' message across better. It is his MOC, so naturally he should be allowed some creative liberty, especially when he's working with a medium in which 100% accuracy is impossible. Whenever a flame war starts around here the complaints rarely come from the builder of the MOC in question - it's usually some third party.
-
To compensate for the rehash, The LEGO Group has really outdone themselves on the box art. It really gives it the merit of a collector's item. It's unfortunate that from this angle the fat section behind the cockpit becomes particularly prominent...
-
Actually, there exists a patch of grey on the upper right side of cavegod's MOC which is noticeably too dense in comparison to the filming miniature. He also canceled some angles in the back (though that's probably due to the fact that it would leave gaps later). Don't get me wrong here, I think this is absolutely stunning regardless of how accurate it is, but we shouldn't give it more credit than is due. For the record cavegod, the angles you've achieved in the front look really good and really has the feel of the original. Great work.

I think it's supposed to be the Proxy scene in the hangar (except for the fact that Obi-wan should then have a lightsaber).

I would never have expected to find other Soshi fans on this forum... I seem to be one of the few people who actually prefer their pre-Genie stuff.* *Maybe it has something to do with me also being a mahou shoujo fan... Contrary to popular belief, they do have of talent - it's just that it's not necessarily evident from their songs...
