  1. I second the Death Star. It's costly, but it's a great set that not only looks amazing when complete, there are loads of "oh wow that's a cool feature I didn't notice" moments when building it :) Kaitan
  2. Great scene! Love the use of the 'ice cream' pieces as smoke. I haven't seen your original walker before, but I'm very impressed with that too :) Good job! Kaitan
  3. LOL I love it ! It's simple in execution, ( as a lot of micro models are) but depicts the scene perfectly. The use of the trophy figure is inspired! Great job Kaitan
  4. Saying "I don't want to prove anything" instantly devalues your input. Although we understand that sources sometimes have to be protected, even just saying something like "My brother/mother/nextdoor-neighbours-gerbil works for TLG and showed me pics/prototypes etc" would add a bit more plausibility to your alleged "facts". Don't be surprised if people don't take your comments at face value... Kaitan
  5. I've seen Vader in Hamleys in Glasgow, and chewie R2 and another Vader in FAO Swartz in New York, so there are a few copies around...
  6. I'll give it a go too - I'm still on limited bricks as most of my collection is in storage, so it won't be huge and spectacular, but I'll do my best :) Kaitan
  7. Agreed. TLG's habit of putting inappropriate figures in sets notwithstanding, the Theed palace scenes are the only ones with her wearing that particular outfit. (I think, although it's been a while since I watched TPM so I'm willing to be proved wrong on this) Kaitan
  8. Lego can't do individual figures as Hasbro is the only company licensed to produce Star Wars related figures on their own - That's why we always get the 'throw away" vehicle in the battle packs. I'm a bit disappointed by the rumoured change to the battle packs - Means you have to buy a lot more to build a decent army/squad and you might end up with a 'side' army you don't really want... Kaitan
  9. Looks great so far! If you are really going for a more accurate look, the walls in the corridor could do with some pipework and/or cabling. I think an interesting challenge would be to create an Echo Base set but sticking to the same budget as the official set. Might be a bit of a wake up call... Kaitan
  10. Looking on bricklink, they look like the same legs. Makes perfect sense to me, given the last book had Luke with his medal - Maybe the next book will have Leia in her finale outfit Kaitan
  11. Love the micro Dewbacks! A great build! Kaitan
  12. Love it! I really like the Moodland style In fact I feel quite inspired to try my hand at a larger scale fig myself ! Great Work Kaitan
  13. At the end of the day, TLG is a business, one that has run successfully for many years. In spite of how we feel about it, the majority of LEGO customers are children. A while back TLG realised that the playability value of LEGO as a building medium was no longer enough, and that once customers (i.e. kids) had built their models they wanted to be able to 'play' with them as well. Competing with the likes of Hasbro (Why bother building an AT-AT when you can buy one and play with it straight from the box?) - I believe that's the reason they have made the Hoth base that we've got now. Playability comes at cost to accuracy - Not in all cases, but mostly. The endor battle set was just pure 'win' maintaining accuracy whilst incorporating playability. But the Endor bunker was a relatively small movie set that had a large battle raging around it. The base on hoth was essentially a hollowed out mountain that apart from a briefly seen invasion by Imperial troops had very little actually 'happen' in it. (That might change if the re-releases add in the wampa attack ) My point is, not every scene and location can possibly make a good, accurate, playable and profitable, set. Just my thoughts... Kaitan
  14. Now THAT makes sense :) I will do more research when I get to work tomorrow and have access to more "official" resources. Kaitan
  15. Well I work in a bookstore, and we are still getting the visual dictionary in stock on a weekly basis, complete with mini figure, so I don't know what you saw... Point being, it's very unusual for a publisher to release a new version of a book when the old version is still in print. Kaitan
  16. I for one am glad it doesn't have a snowspeeder. The inapproriate inclusion of one in the wampa cave set, in a perverse way, kind of balances out the exclusion from this set That said, I'll probably only get this for the figures, I doubt I'll bother building the actual set. lol! Kaitan
  17. Tantive IV? Been there, done that Most of my lego is in storage at the moment, so this photo was done with a very restricted set of bricks. (well, restricted compared to what I'm used to! lol) Thinking about it, yes there may be additional light leaking in from behind the camera... maybe I'll try again when it gets darker.
  18. Not sure if this is the right thread to post in - It's not really a MOC or Diorama or Vig. I only built this purely for the photo, so I'm guessing this is the right place Besides, I'd feel silly giving it a thread of its own! "But it's SUPPOSED to be freezing! How we are ever going to dry out her clothes, I really don't know!" Taken with a Samsung Digimax S500 using just my iPad for lighting. Slightly edited to get rid of a hair that I didn't see until I put everything away and loaded the photos onto the computer C&C welcome! Kaitan
  19. Amazing work as ever :) Can't even begin to work out how you created the hole with all the "teeth/spikes"... Kaitan
  20. I'm guessing (and hoping) that the Leia in the new set will look more like my custom Leia - Kaitan
  21. Using Neilsen Book data - the industry wide database for booksellers - Publication dates for the DK Star Wars Character book are :- UK + Europe 3rd October, US 17th October. There seems to be a different ISBN for the US compared to the rest of the world, but the descriptions are currently the same. Kaitan
  22. I really like this, you've captured the look of the skiff perfectly! If I had to make one criticism, it would be the red hands! They draw my eye to them in every picture, making it difficult to concentrate to the excellent detail you've worked so hard on! Again, great entry, good luck :) Kaitan
  23. Yep I used my ipod with a red screen for the light and then used GIMP to create the actual blade. I wouldn't have bothered normally but I don't have any red blades at the moment, in reality she's actually got a blue blade Thanks Kaitan
  24. My final entry - sticking with the same character as my speeder entry - The Dark Lady of the Sith, Darth Zyren! I've managed to lay my hands on a couple more sets to give me a fighting chance at building something at least ship sized (those that don't know, most of my lego is in storage) Front and rear views Side view Top down view View inside the cockpit - quite proud of that :) View of the engines The insert pic shows the landing gear folded up into 'fight mode' - quite proud of that too :)) The lightsaber shot :) Hope you like it, I've come to the conclusion that I'm better at creating existing scenes than I am at creating from scratch Good luck to all the entrants, there are some incredible ships vehicles and bikes out there! Kaitan
  25. Well, I work for Waterstone's bookshops in the UK, and the only pub date I can find for anywhere in the world is the 3rd October 2011 - DK don't even have it on their website, which makes me think nothing is really set in stone yet. At the same time I can't find any DK star wars,(lego or otherwise) books that are due on 15th May (in the US or anywhere else), so I think that particular staff member didn't really know what she was talking about...
