  1. Although Alderaan was destroyed there were still survivors (though you have to investigate the EU to discover them) - she still has 'subjects' therefore she's still a princess. (its a theory anyway...) A more 'down to earth' theory is that she is referrred to as princess throughout the OT - TLG are just following the original material... for a change... Kaitan
  2. I work in a bookshop, and sometimes we need to remove sticky residue from the books left by price/special offer stickers. We use spray furniture polish - spray it on the sticker, leave for a couple of seconds, wipe/pick off what you can and repeat as needed. We ONLY use this on books with shiny covers, I've never tried it on a Lego box - but if you are willing to risk it, it's just a suggestion. Kaitan
  3. Brilliant build - love the addition of colour, adds a bit more interest. It would look great if you stood it on a mirror, use an old movie trick to add perspective :) Kaitan
  4. Not according to the comic com pics. I don't think the pic you are looking at has high enough resolution to discern that kind of detail anyway. Kaitan
  5. I've created another entry, much to my surprise :) It's here Kaitan
  6. Another entry for the community build. I got a bit stuck with my other entry, so I decided to work on something else for a while to give me a break So I present MoodLand scale Imperial Snowtroopers and their E-Web repeating blaster cannon. I know the e-web's legs aren't as detailed as they should be, but I just couldn't come up with anything better in LDD. Thanks again to Moodswim for his figure designs! I'm really enjoying working in this scale! Kaitan
  7. My Luke and Han on Hoth + extras WIP thread is here Kaitan
  8. Ok here's the start of my entry. First off, thanks to M<0><0<DSWIM for letting me use his MoodLand Scale figures - I asked before I started just so we weren't working on the same idea. I've chosen to work in LDD because I'm finding my lack of bricks frustrating, and I refuse to Bricklink orders for bricks I know I have tons of, but they are all in storage where I can't get to them! Anyhoo, here we have Luke in his cold weather gear. Still needs a bit of work, but overall I'm pleased with him :) Now here's Han. Not so happy with him - His furry hood just won't go right and his blaster needs tweaking too. And a sneak peek at things to come... UPDATE - Finished the Tauntaun - or at least as finished as he is going to be in LDD. I would've given him reigns and a bit more tack but LDD's flex tool was playing up, and I lost patience with it I did try to work some more on Han, but just couldn't come up with anything better than my first try. Comments and constructive criticism welcome :) Kaitan
  9. You missed my point, and corrected yourself at the same time! My point was the thing that made the Echo base set a representation of the actual place was the figures. Until you add the figures, it could be from any number of TV shows/films. Many fanon MOCs do the same thing. e.g. Here's my rock ship from the planet Granite, piloted by the Bounty hunter Stonehead D'Nutter, who just happens to be a failed jedi/surviving clone (pick one) - oh look he's got a light sabre! it must be star wars.... Anyway, in spite of the confusion, I totally agree with you :) I still hold that trying to split decide what's canon and whats not, is too much trouble. - (especially if, as you point out, there are 'levels' of canon, which I personally think makes a farce of the whole thing to start with!) Kaitan
  10. I don't agree that 'Anything Goes' - I see a lot of SW MOCs that would look more at home in "Buck Rogers" than Star Wars. People complained that the new Hoth base set looked like a space police set, it was only the figures that made it Star Wars. A lot of fanon MOCs are the same, only they don't have the figures to redeem them... Having said all that, don't ask me to define SW style, I can't But I know it when I see it As I'm sure we all do, if we are honest! Kaitan P.S. Splitting the forum to Canon And Fanon wouldn't work - Define Canon? Everything that appears in the films/TV series? What about the EU (officially sanctioned) novels? Too much trouble for no good reason.
  11. Love it! A great technical achievement, getting the details spot on! Kaitan
  12. It's the same size as all the other DK Star Wars Character Guides, so it's probably to match with them, same as the Visual Dictionary matches all the other DK Visual Dictionaries. It's not unusual for a book to be released early, but DK are normally a bit closer to their predicted publication dates... still , nice to see it out I look forward to getting my delivery at work! Kaitan (who works in a bookshop )
  13. Okay I'll go again :) Hopefully this time I'll produce something a little more impressive. Plenty of ideas, as ESB is my favourite of all the films, but nothing I want commit to at this time Good luck everyone Kaitan
  14. A great MOC with some very interesting SNOT techniques! I like the way you've handled the curved wall and the window. This is the one scene/set from the PT that I've actually considered MOCing myself, and even went so far as to start working things out in LDD. Maybe when I've got my collection back out of storage... Good job! Kaitan
  15. odd that in the mini figure line up, the rebel endor troopers have different torsos, but in the battle pack pic they have the same 'old style' torso. Kaitan
  16. As far as prices are concerned, we haven't seen any confirmation of anything yet, bar one online retailer who, to be honest could charge whatever they like! All this $5/€5/£5 extra on a battle pack etc could just be them adding on extra to profit from those stupid enough to try preordering this early. Kaitan
  17. In my UK (non VIP) version the picture you describe is on the inside pages of the catalogue, and the picture that has been posted above is on the back page. Both show the same view of the SSD, just different backgrounds. Kaitan
  18. One thing I'vefound about the advent calendars is no matter what theme they are from, they are always a nice set of small parts - just simply because they are made up of mini/small models that tend to be made of more interesting/unusual parts than a large single model would contain. I personally welcome the 'blank' rebel pilot helmet, rather than having a whole squad of Lukes, Wedges and Zevs. And its always worthwhile having more guns and light sabre hilts Not too sure I need another Chewie though... I will be getting it, and hopefully by christmas I'll have forgotten this review and the order of the models. lol! Kaitan
  19. Now why couldn't I find them?! That's great, thank you! Kaftan
  20. At the risk of betraying my next project, does anyone have any decent pictures of the studio model of the twin pod cloud car? All the ones I've found so far are of the hasbro remakes or people's own models. Many thanks! Kaitan
  21. My entry is done - sorry it's not more impressive... Treadwell Droid Kaitan
  22. My rather pitiful contribution to the community build - My take on the Treadwell droid, as seen on the Lars homestead and the Jawa sand crawler auction... Kaitan
  23. Tesco in the uk are selling the midi star destroyer at 15.99 - nearly half price! At least that's the price in my local store :) Kaitan
  24. Sorry I've been a quiet on this. I've found it quite frustrating not having my full collection available to use, but rest assured, I AM determined I will have SOMETHING to show soon, even if it's just a brick built droid ... Kaitan
