  1. Why woudn't they ever show up? If they were there once, they could show up again. Just give it some time, my friend. Anyway - this is how I see it: We got 1400+ bricks. And we got a solution that can be updated when Lego releases new bricks in the future. And we got a solution that Lego can stand by. A few missing minifig parts that areen't even sold yet we can live without, right
  2. This is not a mod in the sence that it is a "hack". It's unofficial information from Lego on how to activate something called LU-mode in LDD, which opens up a whole new world in terms of LDD and digital design. So this is what you do: 1) Download LDD from the Lego web site - http://ldd.lego.com/ 2) Activate LU mode. Read how here - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40794 3) Join the LDD movement - check out the news here in the LDD Index Thread - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39841 Oh, and no, patching/updating LDD will not delete the "mod" (or activation as I'd like to call it).
  3. Thanks for the review CopMike! Well, this set is a must-have buy for sure, specially since I don't have any of the earlier versions. Great parts, classic SW ship, cool minifigs. I'll probably get two
  4. What a tragic loss. He was one of the absolutely best builders and an inspiration with those clean lines and sharp models. My thoughts go to his family.
  5. Excellent idea for workaround! An even easier way to get Lime then is to just switch over to DesignByMe mode (View > New Themes) when you need it, add a Lime Green Brick and then switch back to LU mode and pick the color from that Brick. No need to import etc.
  6. 'Oh, but so do I. It's just that LDD is great way to make a mockup of your design and try out different color schemes. When that's done, I order the parts and build So I agree completely - only digital building is not for me either, but I guess everyone is different. But I have to say that building with LDD actually gives me the same feeling as with real bricks - looking for those great solutions, turning and twisting the bricks and so forth. After working with LDD for some time it sort of becomes "one with you" (oops, that sounded a bit scary ) and you actually get all into the creativity part. That's what sets LDD appart from the other Lego CAD-tools - it's so easy to get started and completely fluent when using it. Just my 5 cents off course...
  7. If you can't find the preferences.ini, it may be because that folder is hidden. To view hidden folders, you have to first enable this setting:
  8. Hi everyone Glad you all like the LU-mode. I'm really happy that Lego decided to give us this. They listen to us fans! Also don't forget that if you have any requests for future LDD versions - be sure to add them here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...c=35736&hl= Bug reports for the current version of LDD - add them here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40785 LDD Index thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39841 Now to some of the questions: Just like Bojan writes you can change the base color of the brick palette. Just use the color button next at the top of the palette. The only bad thing is that you have to do this everytime you start LDD - to my knowledge there is no way to keep this setting between sessions. That won't ever be possible in LDD since it's an illegal building technique. Read more here: http://bramlambrecht.com/tmp/jamieberard-b...stress-bf06.pdf Just like Bojan (aka SuperBojan, ha ha) writes - it's the same pieces in as in his mod. You can only buy the stuff you make with DesignByMe-Bricks (in the DesignByMe mode). If you have designed a model in LU-mode and still want to check which bricks can be bought, use the Toolbox > Check Buyability tool. The buyable bricks will semi-transparent.
  9. Don't be confused - be happy. Just kidding - this is actually the only licenced piece in there (at least I think so, maybe we could have a contest about finding odd stuff). Anyway, I used the trooper head just to tease all the Star Wars fan here at EB
  10. Good tip, I'll add the info if a lot of people start asking.
  11. Well, I guess I am (humble). But thanks also to Bojan, who's mod was one of the catalysts, and whom I've had great discussions with over the past weeks. Also many thanks to the entire LDD development team - absolutely great guys. Yes, you're right, there's are couple of them. I guess the LU-team wanted them for some reason, don't know why.
  12. NOTE: This information has been superseeded by the new LDD Extended Mode This mode is available out of the box, so there is nothing you need to "activate" any longer. ==================== OLD post below...all the information below is not relevant anymore. This is a long post, but if you interested in LDD, read to the end - it's all good stuff: Great news for LDD users Lego Universe Mode. Made available by Lego especially for the fan community! LU Mode - More bricks and better overview Background As you may know, there are a lot more bricks in the LDD database installed on your computer than you could actually see in the normal DesignByMe/Mindstorm/Creator mode. All these additional bricks have actually been available for quite some time in LDD for designers of Lego Universe through something called Lego Universe Mode. Lego Universe Mode After a fruitful dialogue with the LDD development team at Lego, access to LU-mode is now available to all LDD fans. With LU-mode you get access to all the 1400+ bricks in LDD. LU-mode will show up as a new tab in the welcome screen. New choice in start menu – LU mode TIP: If you already have a model made in another mode and want to convert it to LU-mode, use the View > New Themes > Lego Universe New features There is a slightly different user interface in LU-mode with some additional tools. Three new tools in LU-mode The new tools are: - Decoration tool, allows you to “paint” decoration on those bricks that will allow it. - Color picker tool, allows you to pick a color from any other brick in the scene (“scene” is LDD-lingo for the area on screen where you place the bricks and build your models) - Color palette tool – allows you to select any color. By holding the mouse pointer over a color, a sub-menu will also expand showing all the sub-colors. Mouse over to expand color palette The new tools should be fairly intuitive to use. Please post any questions about LU-mode in this thread. Disclaimer (very important stuff) Please be aware that Lego takes NO responsibility whatsoever for LU-mode. Since LU-mode is NOT intended for the general public there may be flaws in the functionality and problems with incorrect brick geometry. Lego is making LU-mode available to us LDD fans as-is. There is no support at all and you use it fully at your own risk. And naturally, bricks used in LU-mode are not possible to buy through DesignByMe or Pick-A-Brick. How do I get access to LU-mode? If you agree to the above disclaimer, read below how to read how to activate LU mode. Please do NOT re-post that information on the internet, on this forum or any other forum. Instead, link to this post. Thank you. Hey, I’m in LDD now, and I can be customised in any color. Q & A Q: If I activate LU-mode, will LDD still automatically update over the internet when a new version is released? A: Yes Q: If I design in LU-mode, will the model also open with LDD on computers that do not have LU-mode activated? A: Yes, and you can copy bricks from models in LU-mode to LXF-files created in any other mod. Great, huh! Q: Does Lego offer any end-user support on LU-mode? A: Nope Q: Are there any guarantees that bricks in LU mode will exist forever? A: No, bricks can be added and removed by Lego from LU-mode at any time when a new LDD version is released. But the risk that a brick is removed is much, much less than when Lego changed around in the DesignByMe palette each year. Q: Are all colors available in LU-mode? A: Yes, both current and discontinued. Q: Wow, with LU-mode I can make bricks any color, even in colors that haven’t been produced – like transparent tires. A: Yes, that’s both a strength and weakness. A strength because when Lego releases a brick in a new color, it’s easy to apply it. A weakness because there is a risk that you apply a color that isn’t available and when you try to order the bricks, they don’t exist. LDD UNIVERSE MODE ACTIVATION INSTRUCTIONS ================ Activiation For windows users 1. Close down LDD 2. Find the file preferences.ini the LEGO Digital Designer folder. 13. Good findings! And excellent that you made a video. What tool did you use to capture screen video?
  14. OK - gotcha. Personally I'm hoping they at least revert back to the old 2.x grid. I know they introduced the current grid (with the stud pattern) so that children would more naturally feel like they are putting the bricks on a giant baseplate. That's a great idea! Thanks for the tip! Let me think about it some more.
  15. Ha, ha ...yet another mishap. Well spotted TOJ! I guess it's problem with using a Danish word - koks (eng: Coke, the fuel made from Coal) and its dark brown color? Or maybe it's a coded message
  16. I think you had some pretty good proposals. Can you please explain what Alpha regulation for base grid is? The idea about copy while a brick is just highlighted is really cool. @dluders: No, the 52 Mb patch is not the mod. The mod is something that the fan community has done (more specifially a user named Bojan), that unlocks at lot of bricks that are actually allready in LDD. And yes, there are more technic pieces. Please read the LDD Index Thread now and then, it will have information when the mod is available.
  17. Calabar, since you're new to the forum, please take the time to read the previous post in the thread first. What you've written, even though understandable and with the best intentions, has allready been covered in this thread both forward and backwards. Also, I've allready answered to your question about the mod here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...st&p=718443 So take it easy and don't worry, it will be here. Also, since you're new to the forum, you might want to take some time to introduce you here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showforum=17
  18. Hi Calabar Welcome to the forum! And yes, there will be a mod out that will unlock a lot more bricks in LDD (it's amazing). Best option to know when the mod is out is to check the LDD Index thread now and then: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39841 As soon as the mod comes out, it will posted there!
  19. I agree Etzel, it does limit construction somewhat but I guess Lego reasons that more tubes = better friction I was actually quite surprised when the old design (without tubes) came out since it was odd that a new piece from Lego had no tubes. Apperamty they made a poor judgement back then since tubes have now been added. Anyway, the new piece has been around for some time. According to Bricklink since Emerald Night (not to sure about that though), but it I think it has been phased in during late 2009. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=88930 (BTW: see you soon Etzel....on the road to Billund, sweet!)
  20. Well spotted Dr. Jones! On all plants I have, there is no hole. However on the Pick-A-Brick image, there is one. Seems to be an updated mold. Let's see when and if the first physical elements with a hole shows up.
  21. Ha, ha, that's so funny. Maybe it's supposed to go with the banana?
  22. Google sketchup is a pretty cool tool to visualize Lego models. Building is not as easy as with designated Lego CAD tools, but nevertheless it's interesting to see what's been done and how it can be used. 23. I saw "mr. Lego Bildurs" reply, but since I can't see his proposed fix, I went on to do my own. (@Bildur: you can attach small files directly in the forum, handy feature). Let's start with the angle of the brick you're using (30249 - Slope 55 6 x 1 x 5). As the name implies it's a 55 degree angle brick when used on it's own. HOWEVER, stacking multiple on top of eacher other, the angle become slightly more (approx 56 degrees) since there is a slight offset at the base (i.e. when the bricks are stacked there is a slight staircase pattern). Maybe you knew, but I mention it here anyway. Next step, making the right angle in LDD. First, I noticed some design flaws in your LDD file. For example, the 1x1 technic brick with hole on the side is a very tricky pieces to use. The hole in the brick is about 1/10 of a mm to high compared to the "right" height, so any bricks used to attach with a peg is out of line - just slightly, but enogh to be an "illegal Lego building principle", and that's why LDD will not allow it. Read more here: http://bramlambrecht.com/tmp/jamieberard-b...stress-bf06.pdf On the other hand LDD strangely allows other illegal building principles, like this one: Also, big up for spotting that the 16x8 and 16x32 baseplates are not the same height. That seems like an error in LDD. OK, with that said, I've managed to get the 55 degree angle (actually 56 as mentioned above) that I suppose you wanted. See attached file. cross_road_fixed.zip
