[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@dluders You're touching an important part. Personally I'm very much in favor of LDD as a tool to actually inspire people to build more physcial Lego. And if that should be any fun, the building guide needs to be good. I'll make sure to pass this on to the LDD dev team, even though I'm sure they've done everything possible with automatically generating building guides. I can also mention that the building guides done at Lego have quite some manuall work done to them. One idea that could be a similar "manual touchup" feature in LDD, but I don't know the value. I mena, how much work do you want to spend on a guide that you might only use once? -
LDD WIP (Work In Progress)
Superkalle replied to NecroViolator's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi again 1) Don't use the technic 1x1 brick. Instead use this brick: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=87087 This brick has the stud correctly positioned to allow the snot techniques (i.e. 0.1 mm lower than the technic 1x1 brick) 2) No, sorry, don't have the Bojan mod, and I know it will not be distributed anymore. There are just a very few bricks missing, not enough to warrant fuzzing around with modded LDD files. And between you and me, I think it's good that LDD is so strict with enforcing Lego Legal principles, because it forces you to desing the models correctly, like the designers at Lego are forced to. OK, don't hesitate to come back if you want help with your LXF-files. -

@ shimon Well, to be honest, most of the time it's not LDDs fault. I'be been using if for years now, and mostly when I have these problems its because my own design faults. LDD is just following the rules of the bricks. May I recomend that you read this: http://bramlambrecht.com/tmp/jamieberard-b...stress-bf06.pdf Also, if you want, I can perhaps help you if you can send me or upload the LXF file and indicate where the problem is. It's a bit difficult to understand from just your text. -
Agree with Ralph_S, well done. Especially like the snot building of the fuselage. I find the tail wings a bit to large thought. Perhaps these would fit better?

As a frequent reader and participant on this excellent forum, I find it annoying with overly large signatures. With text and images some can be 400-500 pixels in height. It's wasting a lot of space and forcing you to scroll excessively. As it is today, I've had to turn off "Show Signatures" in my profile, which is sad because at time sigantures can both amusing and informative. I read in the forum rules ( http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...;hl=Signatures: ) that signature images are supposed to be max 300 pixels heigh. May I propose a maxium height of 50 pixels, and a maxium of 3-4 rows of text. It would make the forum look leaner and be easier to browse. Just my 5 cents

Excellent work shimon. Can you please explain which connection problems you are refering too. The reason I'm asking is that LDD is very strict about allowing only Lego Legal Building techniques. However sometimes there are indeed brick geoemtry and connection errors, and they would be interesting to see so they can reported to the Lego. If you could post what you have discovered in this thrad, it would be much appreciated: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40785 Thanks. -
My twisted mind thinks of this: PS: I will only leave the pic up for a day or two. We can't have this type of material at EB, now can we

Nice work! I'm not much of a mod man myself, but hey, we're all different. I'm curious what your model would look like with this head? Could that work? In my experience at least one curved piece on a build fools the eye enough to make the entire MOC look better.

Well, the answer to your questions are in the downloadable textfile. Please read that first. Also read ALL the info in the first post. This is absolutety vital. And yes, you have to type it Exactly like it says. Also, can you please delete the text Theme.....=LEGO..... from your post. That info shall only be in the downloadable text-file, Thanks

Looking really good. I like the clean lines. And the fact that you built two. In my opininon two of the same kind doesn't give twice the impression, but four times - just makes it look so much more....powerful.

Yes, they decided to make DesignByMe a "pure" mode in the sence that you can only see and use buyable brick. Then there wouldn't be so much confusion when kids wanted to buy their model and some of the bricks were not buyable (or in plain english the "Check buyability" was no good. I mean, if you wanted a black 1x2 modified brick and you could only buy a red, how helpful is that?) So now, the "Turn off Filter" in only enabled in Mindstorm and Creator Mode. But off couse now there is LU mode which is a whole other ballgame

Ha, ha...you're absolutly right. Didn't even think about that

Reading the text was very important to understand the mood of the MOC. But having read that, the expression of the Minifig is just spot on. I see you've detached the legs to make it look like he's sitting down. Perhaps a bit unorthodox, but it works from the angle you photographed. Personally however, I'm a bit of a purist and want to keep the legs on! Once exception could be if you build a scene where body parts that have been blown off from landmines etc (pretty gruesome though ) . EDIT: just saw that it had been done here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40686 Looking forward to seeing a larger scene from Utah beach, maybe when the're on the way up on the beach!

Here are some pics of my MOCs that I designed in LDD first, and then built with physical bricks. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40894 -

Here are a few of my MOCs. Designed in LDD - built in ABS. Disney Time Donald Duck & Co. I just love challenge of getting a look or expression with just a few pieces. I’m particularly happy with Goofy’s look. R2D2 & C3PO Well, nothing much to say. C3PO isn’t so good, but was the best I could do considering the scale. Special thanks to Ras74 for lending me a few of the pieces. Stena Bulk Ship Stena P-Max. A Stena Bulk ship in the P-series. http://www.stenabulk.com/en/Our-Fleet/The-...-concept/P-MAX/ Stena Ferry Stena Jutlandia. On traffic between Fredrikshavn, Denmark and Göteborg, Sweden. http://www.ship-technology.com/projects/ju...images/jut1.jpg Radial Engine Volvo Aero MY Radial Engine / Bristol Pegasus – License manufactured from Bristol Ltd starting 1936. Used in Fairly Swordfish among other planes. The propeller is a Volvo Aero propeller from 1941. The engine is built to scale with one exception, the original had 9 cylinders, which turned out to be to much of a challenge to do in Lego, so I cheated a bit and settled for 8. Mack Cruiseliner 1975 4-stud wide 1975 Mack Cruiseliner in two different colors schemes. Oh yes, the inverted cheese slopes are built with legal building technique. It took me a while to figure it out. Others have probably done it before me, but it always a reward to figure things out for yourself. Volvo Historic Vehicles Volvos first truck, the LV72 from 1932 and first bus LV70B from 1932 Lego color chart Don’t know if this classifies as a MOC, but here it is. It was a lot of work with all the tiny stickers, but I think it was worth it in the end. Luxury Yacht Lazzara LSX75 with Quad Volvo Penta IPS 600 Engine installation. Built to scale. The original has a price tag of around 4 Million dollars. Lego is cheaper. http://www.powerandmotoryacht.com/boat-tes...ra-lsx-quad-75/ The Moose My contribution to the EB 2010 event. 7628 MOD Some small changes that I think make the DC3 much more realistic.

Because LDD is part of a business (DesignByMe), and the purpose of LDD was initially foremost to support DbM. Releasing Universe Mode would mean a great risk that kids started coloring bricks in any possible way, and then they would get disappointed if the couldn't order those bricks. That in turn could hurt the DbM concept. However, for different reasons things changed and they decided it was OK to release LU mode to the fans.

Plans for LDD
Superkalle replied to Scorpion's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
There is no mod anymore - instead we now have Universe Mode. Read here - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40794 And as always - when in doubt about anytning LDD - check the LDD Index Thread -
Very slick, very smooth, very easy on the eyes. However, I wonder if it could be a good idea to have a more netural permanent Eurobricks banner on top, and then a space below it that could change each month.

[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests

Great proposals. I agree completely on the building guide problems. It's crazy sometimes, with parts being placed in the air, and THEN the supporting brick under it appears. Wacko. But I'm not sure I understand what you mean with "The original designer clicked on the virtual bricks in a certain (logical) order, but the Building Guide Mode doesn't replicate it." - can you explain. And here is a quick tip (that you might have discovered). You know how difficiult it is to find all the bricks in the brick palette? The list is so long! One thing to know is that within each cateogry, the bricks are sorted in size of their bounding box. So if you are scrolling down the list of parts, knowing how big the part is helps to find it more quickly. -
Absolutey great review. Well done. The blue lift stand I've never seen before. After spending all those hours on BrickLink you imagine you know all the parts by heart - but obviously not. But now I found the stand on BrickLink, thanks for enlighting my day http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4629c01
