What if you lean the minifig forward a little bit? I tried 93 degrees, and then it fits.

It's because the physical version of the does not allow a bar to inserted into the hole. At least in the bricks I have at home it won't fit (although I did have one with a very, very tight fit). Note that sometimes there can be many physical versions (revisions) of a brick even with the same DesignID. In those cases, maybe some old version has an "open" hole, and then maybe a later mold version does not have it. In these cases, LDD normally uses the latest version to decide the functionality of the digital brick.

Not sure I understand. How do you mean fail to bend wheels. I can angle the wheel assembly

The Eurobricks 5th RCB (Relay Community Build) was finalized a few days ago. Under the supervision of Piratedave84, a total of 19 settlers has taken turns to create a stunning Western Town diorama. Head on over the Digital Design forum and check it out. You can review all the different steps, watch how the model evolved, and download and LXF-file of the finished build. TIP: Click on the image below to dive into a 360 view of the town, render courtesy of bbqqq. Lovely!

I'll be happy to report it, but I'm not sure it will be changed. The reason is that a stud-Technic-hole connection is normally not allowed for anything else then shallow decorative elements, such as 1x1 plates, that don't stick out to far (i.e. no risk of being bent out of place). There has been exceptions over the years, for example a 1x1 round brick was used in a SW speeder bike of some sort a few years back, and there was a 1x1 brick with four studs on the sides in a Holidays house two years back (I think it was). But I've learned that the LDD Team are reluctant to put a stud-to-Technic-hole connectivity unless there is an official model with that technique (or to put it in another way: it's more easy to convince them that it is an approved technique if we can show a real case).

Rendering Digital LEGO Reloaded
Superkalle replied to Renderbricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Absolutely great work (as usual)! Maybe the picture taken from the underside of the ship look a bit "megablock" becuase the material in the bricks comes across as a bit too translucent. There is sort of a glow about the bricks The last picture (from rear/above) look better IMHO. -

[Software] LDD Manager

Thanks for the kind words. I'm working on an update that I hope will come out soon. In the meantime, I can make a special favor and help you make a WantedList. Send me a PM. -
It's certainly a very "odd" behavior in LDD. From what I remember, the reason it works like this, is to enable users to build connections like the one shown in the attached image in an easy way. If the "connect outside a stud" didn't exist, you'd have to scaffold the build together (going top-down), which is contradictory to the basic concept of the LEGO System, i.e. building bottom-up. Like you say, the problem is also that there is inconsistency in LDD - some brick can attach outside a stud like you explain, and some can't. Even bricks that won't allow you to put a neighboring brick beside it, like 6177, has this "feature" while a brick like 6576 doesn't (and thus works like it should).

I'm moving to Town since it's a MOC rather then a question about LDD or digital tools.

Great project Mario. I especially like that you've started to look at connectivity in the way you have. IMHO it's one of the most lacking features of the Ldraw platform, at least to attract a wider audience of users. EDIT: There was an innitative a few years back, but I'm not sure what happened to it: http://www.ldraw.org...02-06-lcd.shtml

As far as I can tell, it's not a collision volume error, but rather a snap-error, i.e. the part doesn't snap correctly towards each other. This means it should be possible to manually tweak the position by editing the LXFML file. EDIT: I measured the MIDDLE RING to about 11.8 mm, but it should be 12.0 to be in system. So the gap we see in LDD should be about 0.2 x 2 = 0.4 mm

@HAL9000 - I removed your text about hacking the LDD software. We don't allow discussion about it here for two reasons: 1) It breaks the LDD licence agreement and 2) we don't want the forum to become a hackers central attrackting a lot of traffic just to discuss how to modify LDD. Also, there is allready a software/system out there which allows access to all old parts, and that also allows you to add your own parts: Ldraw. Please read up on it, either here in the forum, or just Google, and you'll find a whole eco-system of software that allows you to do what you want.

Hello HAL9000 Please note that in this forum we are only your AFOL peers, so it doesn't matter how much you beg, we can't do anything. :-) The list in this topic, and that is sent to the LDD Team once in a while, is an unofficial list from us fans, and bricks are then added to LDD only when the brick guys have some spare time over. The main reason is that LDD is focused on currents sets, and on parts that are most useful for general building. Another reasons is that many of the bricks in the 8880 are so old that there are no CAD/3D geometries, so those then have to be manually created from techncial drawings which is very time consuming. So I´m sorty to say (and it's best to be honest) - don't expect any of the parts you've requested anytime soon.

[MOC LDD] Deep Space Mining Ship
Superkalle replied to OLDNUT's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Lovely picture. To be interesting to other builders here in the LDD forum (I'm thinking benchmarking), it'd be great if you can also share the LXF. Also, for the future, please make the image a tad smaller. We have a limit of around 1024 pixes in the forums to reduce bandwidth consumption in general (loading on mobile devices etc). Thanks
