  1. I have other 'flat' art recreations, but not dot mosaic style:
  2. Thanks (again) for the kind words. Just an extra "L" plate in the corner to attach to the legs - much better than the little platform I had on the earlier one. You can remove him and the frame is almost indistinguishable from a standard LEGO Art frame.
  3. Yep, I have just completed a 2nd Lichtenstein. And I have revised the method of attaching the fig to the frame (and done the same on this piece).
  4. The 2nd Lichtenstein mosaic I've made after "Girl with Hair Ribbon". This one is 66 x 82 studs in size. Again using round 1x1 tiles to match the earlier artwork, and as a nod to the Ben-Day dot technique Lichtenstein employed. It includes a signature tile, and a Roy Lichtenstein minifig. The painting is based on a panel illustrated by Tony Abruzzo in the comic book series Girls' Romances #78. Flickr gallery
  5. Tirau Dog information centre (Waikato, New Zealand) MOC built for the NZ Architecture mash-up for season 1, episode 1 of the LEGO Masters NZ TV show. Reference Flickr gallery
  6. Made this NZ Kiwi MOC (a bit cartoony proportioned rather than realistic) a few months back. Also can be easily modded into Laser Kiwi Flickr
  7. Epic build, nicely improved on the official release.
  8. I'm saying if you are waiting for extra long legs etc like the original Toy Story, they may be back in the Avatar sets.
  9. Love this! Nice technique for the hands too. :)
  10. Avatar movie sets, possibly?
  11. Why not copy the copier? Using round 1x1 tiles as a nod to Lichtenstein's use of the Ben-Day Dot technique. Also made a minifig to accompany the piece, I think LEGO is missing a trick not including these in their official art sets. The original frame Lichtenstein used as the basis for his piece was from legendary comic book artist John Romita. Flickr gallery
  12. Entry: Say You'll Be There Theme: Spice Girls Note - some Sharpie use to get desired colours. Please advise if not allowed.
  13. That looks amazing! Great to see at this scale.
  14. Can we enter more than once (and yes I do realise you may be cannibalising your own potential votes if you do that)?
  15. If you wanna be my lover you gotta play with LEGO Friends The classic Spice Girls lineup - Baby, Sporty, Ginger, Scary, and Posh as created with spare Friends and Elves minidoll parts. A little recolouring on Posh's dress and Ginger's hair for good measure. Flickr gallery.
  16. That looks amazing - perfectly captures the vibe and colours. I love the conversation pit!
  17. It was released this weekend on Apple TV. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/01/review-fraggle-rock-on-apple-tv-is-the-muppet-series-disney-wishes-it-had/
  18. Simpler build today, but made it harder for myself by recreating 4 of the album cover variations (getting low on black tiles presently, had to scrounge off older MOCs and official sets). Each about the size of a 45, and displayed 2x2 Warhol style, pretty much LP sleeve size. Original design by the band's percussionist Noel Crombie. Reference
  19. This time trying another, more common LEGO art technique, almost entirely layered plates, with a few non-plate pieces for detail. Built mostly, but not entirely, to the stud grid. Binney's hard edges certainly lend themselves more to this style of build. Reference: https://teara.govt.nz/en/artwork/45014/tabernacle-by-don-binney-1966
  20. "Don Binney (1940 - 2012) needs little introduction to NZ art lovers so distinctive are his iconic paintings and drawings of birds and landforms. In a career spanning more than 40 years, his commitment to ornithology, environmental issues and spiritual connection with the land drove his art practice. His perspective on landforms was as distinctive as the symbolism of his stylised birds." - thediversiongallery.co.nz https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/4824317/270k-painting-boosts-Christchurch-earthquake-relief I've been working on this LEGO MOC for a couple of weeks, based on one of my favourite kiwi artist's most recognisable paintings. Took a break from this build to make the Gordon Walters one a couple of days ago, while I waited for a couple of pieces to arrive via Bricklink. This MOC is made from 5 layers of bricks. I did buy a bunch of flexible pneumatic LEGO hose to do the curved black borders, but in the end abandoned that idea. The shadows due to the layers sort of create that effect. May revisit the tubing idea sometime in the future. More images on my flickr profile.
  21. That waterfall is the best part of an amazing MOC. Is it made from those superhero minifig posing pegs?
  22. Did this MOC as a break yesterday from working on another kiwi artwork recreation, while I wait for some BL orders to arrive. Thought it would be a quick simple build, but it was not. First version had the tiles on different layers. Then I rebuilt the structure to allow for the under-layer. Then I noticed my reference pic was just a portion of the full design. Then after I rebuilt it at full size, I realised Walters didn't adhere to a nice vertical grid. So I moved 2 rows to a 1/2 stud offset. That required rebuilding the whole support, and re-thinking the frame to hide the offset gap. Pretty much an all-day build. https://www.art-newzealand.com/Issues1to40/walters.htm More including ref pic on my flickr feed.
  23. I have a new Ideas project just gone live, and support / sharing-of would be much appreciated. ZZ TOP & ELIMINATOR HOT ROD - 50TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE tinyurl.com/zztoplego
  24. Nice read, thanks for writing and sharing.
