  1. That's true, and builders are annoyed because the two hues of gray clash pretty badly when placed close together in the context of a set. The bluish gray makes the light gray look dull and the old dark gray appear greenish. We have now, the most well thought out and attractive colors we've ever had, and this makes Lego even more attractive to AFOL's. I'd like to add something that hasn't been a product of the Lego Company but has changed Lego forever; the online fan community. Sites like flickr, Brickshelf, MOC Pages, Eurobricks etc. get most AFOL's excited to create and share Legos, and serve as a testing ground for what the fan community will think of new products, as well as a source of ideas for future sets. (If you doubt this look at the past year's worth of posts in the History forum and what most people have been wishing for and you'll see that the new Kingdoms sets for 2011 are full of the quintessential wish-list items that have been discussed on the forum for months now) It's not that Lego goes around and nicks ideas off of the discussion boards, that would be silly, but if people overwhelmingly state, petition and desire a certain item, it only makes sense for the Company to create said item and cash in on the demand. In that respect, the online community is a powerful force in the direction in which Lego products move.
  2. Wonderful MOC gabe! I think you've done a phenomenal job with the ruins and the chandelier in the forestman building is a great design!
  3. You're right about the purple parts, but I don't think the alien in the tripod has any brain exposed. The one alien with the brain is in the mother ship set. And alien pirate... haha that's pretty funny, I guess because of the cyborg arm and the leg.
  4. It depends on your definition of "fits"; if you mean the design and color scheme of the sets then I think you'll see a bit more realistic colors than the traditional pastel pirate sets. If anything the colors would be closer to those of the Prince of Persia sets. The stickers used may very well be from kingdoms but don't forget these are prelims so they would have used any stickers they saw fit to build an initial model.
  5. My favorite part is the room with the machinery; very steam-punkish. This thing must have taken forever to do!
  6. Very distopic I love it! I love the detail in the street rubble and the general layout is perfect for showcasing the set, very well done!
  7. It's true a lot of people will find useful parts, my apologies for scrutinizing it. Btw how readily available are the Kingdom sets in Bulgaria? I haven't been back there in over 3 years. (za sujalenie mnogo rabota i malko vakancia, no kakvo da se pravi... ) I noticed in the dragon prison set that the arched gate is the same one we get with the Atlantis sets, but could it be in dark pearl?? That would be fantastic!
  8. Granted that is the technical name for it, but the ones they use in the movie are a much slimmer variant than the classic Lego pirates sword. I assumed that because they are making a whole new theme based on a Disney license like in the case of Prince of Persia, they would include new molds for some of the weapons, accessories and clothing items. Hence, having a slimmer sword, be it cutlass or rapier is entirely possible, and you'd have to agree with me that it is within the realm of possibilies as the prelims are, well, just that. To me those classic cutlasses look to bulky for the licenced sets, but only time will tell. Cheers
  9. The reason is, if you've seen the movies they don't use sabers, in fact they use rapiers for all the sword fights. Check it out:
  10. You are right of course that this is a great parts pack if you have missed the first wave of Kingdoms, the pirates theme and the castle theme before that. I was simply remarking that there is nothing original or specifically designed for this set; it's a random grouping of parts, that doesn't make it a poor set, but it's nothing revolutionary.
  11. The mod looks great! Very cushiony and gangster! Looking at it now I don't know if I approve of his choice of chauffeur, I mean if you're gonna employ ex-cons, at least give them a work-uniform.
  12. I'm very impressed by the way the minifigure turned out! It looks menacing but still cartoony; kind of like a video-game character. Job well done
  13. Not at all: here's the info on that piece; http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30032 Cheers
  14. Yes indeed, it looks like a horn piece in the same lime green as the alien head. Personally I like that head mold the most; it looks the most-classic alien of of all of them.
  15. Excellent scene Skalldyr! My absolute favorite are the trees which look weighed down by the snow. The sleigh design is also very creative!
  16. I have a feeling that this theme is going to take the Kingdoms path and disappear for a year. I do think the Egyptian portion of the theme is done, after all we got all the minions, all the treasure and the Pharaoh himself. I can see this coming back in late fall as perhaps a Greek mythology adventures theme, but as far as more Egyptian sets, I can't think of anything else they can build. We have a pyramid, we have a sphinx, we have a ton of tombs, vehicles etc... This is meant to run to completion IMO, but don't despair we haven't seek the last of Jake and Company.
  17. eh, that's a shame, the movie uses regular rapiers, i hope they incorporate them for the final sets.
  18. I like this set, it's very traditional in design, and the price is superb. If only they had one of these for every ninja.... Having said that, I'm liking this new trend in Lego; to provide a ton of accessories with every minifigure, can't wait to see wave 2
  19. Great to see the clear pictures, I guess the "brain slugs" are actually "alien pets" That makes me laugh, but it only makes sense to market it to kids that way, after all saying "let's get the one with the brain-sucking slug" sounds a bit above PG. These confirm a few things: 1) there are 4 different alien heads + 1 "alien pet" 2) These have sound functions 3) There are 3 sets with civilians (farmer, businessman, and a news anchor in the mother-ship set (she has a longer microphone piece) 4) new double-barrel handgun and (unfortunately) flick-fire missiles all around 5) there is something white in the Earth Defense HQ set in the little vehicle being driven by the scientist, which looks like it's swimming in a little tank. I wonder if this is some alien artifact! These are looking better and better with each new wave of pics!
  20. Wow, wonderful Review Etzel! The temple is simply beautiful, and the figures are inspired and really well done. The thing that makes me happy is that this set pretty much gives away the intent to create a Greek theme in the year to come! I feel our next wave of adventure sets will be a "Olympus Quest" or "Mythology". This of it; temples, hoplites, archaic heroes and monsters that can be custom built just like the crab warrior! It could happen!
  21. Wow, the addition of all those weapons charts hit something of a nerve in me! I feel the urge to start collecting! Lego always gets me to buy into themes like that with creative art style and a story. The set is nice, the dragon body seems very simplistic though, and the arms are especially hideous but the minifigures make up for it. I'd say the concept gets a 9/10, but the execution is a 7/10
  22. Can anyone make out what the figures are armed with? Are they the classic prate sabers or are they the new rapier piece that the musketeer in S4 comes with?
  23. Wait, dark blue? To me in the prelims it looks like the human vehicles are a shade of a new color? Something between violet meets dark blue... It could be the lighting in the photo, can anyone id the color?
  24. Very nice, I love the transparent water and the greenery underneath! Wonderful and tidy, job well done!
  25. My best suggestion I can make to you is to get a Bricklink account and to shop for specific parts there. I started out with close to nothing, and I needed to build up parts in the new blueish gray because of the color change (I only had old gray bricks and they look pretty bad if mixed and matched randomly) I manged to get several hundred bricks, plates arches and tiles for 60$ US, so I'd say that's the most economically sound way to go.
