  1. Well I could see that if you are deprived of imagination and live in a bubble that article would make sense to you.
  2. Hmm, I'm not sure about it sticking around for a long time. Star Wars is kind of a timeless epic and it appeals on a lot of levels to a wide audience, not to mention it was the first big License Lego made sets for. There are a ton of sets but there are a lot of movies and a lot of lore to the universe that can be incorporated into sets. Some scenes are iconic and can be recognized instantaneously by fans around the world, so Lego cashes in on that. PoTC is a great series of films, but it's audience is much narrower, and the vocabulary of locations, characters and lore is much less diverse. Don't get me wrong, I still think they can get a few waves in like they did for Indiana Jones, but I don't expect it to stick around for 10 years. My prognosis of longevity is - more than Prince of Persia and Toy Story, about the same as Indiana Jones, and much less than Star Wars.
  3. Is that a bad thing?? PS, I don't like the negative connotation of "nerdy" it sounds like a handicap or something..
  4. I think the wizard and jester had preliminary pics, as I remember the color of the beard changed form gray to black in the finished sets and that caused a lot of stir. I do however, hope for new impulses, or battle packs. ( Someone mentioned a civilian pack with pitch forks etc.) It is possible they will release such a set without prelims, like the Pharaoh's Quest battle pack which flew under the radar. The downside is they won't have new figures, but if it is indeed peasants and animals it won't matter to me. As far as exclusives, I feel these are always geared towards civilian life, so I wouldn't mind an inn, a chapel (unlikely because of religious issue ) or my personal wish-list item: A peasant house that can be build into any one of 3 official versions of the model, so that by buying multiples you can amass a village with variety.
  5. I completely agree. Series 3 was the first series I bought as a whole collection and after I got them it kind of felt like it was missing something. I can't wait for series 4 though; there are so many epic figures I don't know whether to buy them all or to just get random packs and be surprised by the many wonderful multiples!
  6. And you have no idea how happy that makes me! Not just because we are getting said sets, but because it means that these countless threads of wish-lists, speculations and petitions aren't just going off into limbo and never being heeded; in fact it shows that the AFOL community can request specific parts, themes, sets and get them too! That is a phenomenal development on my list!
  7. Yes indeed, and lucky for us it's set for release in April which means we'll be able to get them in mid-March off of Bricklink! I got all of series 3 for $65 in early December this way so I'm about to do the same for series 4.
  8. Although I'd love a Roman soldier and the chance to build a MASSIVE legion, I think that going that route has it's limitations in appeal and won't really ever be produced as a straight historic theme. (I am hoping like mad that series 5 of the collectible minifigures contains a Roman!) A Greek theme would be more probable; one with mythological creatures. I think that this is just around the corner, but unfortunately in the form of a Pharaoh's Quest type theme. It's likely that the mythology of Ancient Greece will be made into sets soon enough, but I doubt it will be set in the ancient times. Now if it were, by some strange chance, set in the world of the Odyssey for example I could see the following. Theme: "Mythic Heroes" Includes: * 10 small sets all equally priced each including an epic hero, and an epic monster for him/her to fight. * Several bigger sets containing things like multiple heroes, a ship, bigger monsters, maybe a few temples. * One huge set like the Parthenon. Oh dreams...
  9. That is true, but look back a year to the time before collectible minifigures; to suggest that Lego would release a series of randomly packed, unrelated and customized figures would have generated a lot of criticism and skepticism. And look at us now; we have a new wave every few months on which we depend as a source for accessories, army builders, and as a way to expand on the old themes and explore new never-before-released themes. Also look at the Kingdoms line for 2011; new animal molds, civillian sets, dragon knights cavalry, things that the AFOL's have been asking for for years now. My point being; TLG is listening and expanding it's marketing strategy in new and creative ways, so while the sets of the past are a good rule of thumb for predicting trends in future sets, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new and improved line of historical sets hit the big time in the next few years. I sure hope for it anyways!
  10. My apologies ISC, wasn't my intention to attack anyone. Now something that I haven't seen yet on here: What do you think prices will be on these? I speculate the UFO Abduction will be about 35$ US Alien strike about $6.99 Alien defender about $10.99 Tripod Invader about $25 It's hard to tell whether the mother ship or jet-copter stets are bigger so i'd place them in the $55-$65 category The Earth Defense HQ is pretty big but not huge, I'd say more than $80 but less than $100
  11. Great MOC Brickster! It's the first time I've seen all the ninjas together and I have to say, they are an impressive sight indeed! The building is wonderfully done, I wish we still had large printed parts like that foundation. PS: Is it just me or is that new bone piece one of the nicest molds in a while? I've found so many uses for it, and I can't wait to see it in more MOC's!
  12. I agree I can't tell it apart unless it's the body or legs of a figure. I have the skeleton form the regular sets, and the heads/torsos look normal, only the legs and boots look like Chinese plastic.
  13. Well I think you have to give up the notion that you have to classify what you are based on a hobby. Are there "nerdy" Lego fans, yes, are there bada$$, sweet-talking, womanizing and mustang-driving AFOL's out there? You bet! It was said before that video games were considered nerdy but now the vast majority of people play them, with consoles taking the computer out of the equation (or so they believe )and so now it's the cool thing to do. The whole problem is that "nerdy and cool" kind of fly out the window after high school, and as soon as you are making your own money and working you can spend cash and time on whatever the heck makes you feel good. And if your buds are talking you down for it, I'm afraid to say that if you have 5 friends they each have a fifth of a personality, so find people with genuine intellect and character, it'll pay off in the long run.
  14. 1) I had to go for the rocker, just a great design and that guitar will be in every new MOC! 2) I voted for all series together; although they come in waves I take them as a whole and they each offer invaluable figures and accessories so i cannot just pick one. 3) As for attribute I voted exploration of new themes; let's face it if there weren't any new themes explored we would have just a whole bunch of supplemental figures for current themes. These also can lead the way to Lego making a whole new theme or incorporating figures into a theme (ex. Spartan warrior to Atlantis) 4) Lastly I voted series 4 is an improvement; so far the most variation and innovation. @ Ingrimm I have the fisherman and a vikings helmet and just tried this combination and I'm sorry to report that although you can place the helmet on the minifigure with the beard, the nose guard is slightly too long, and so it's not a perfect fit, it probably goes on about half way; secure enough not to fall of when you invert it, but not strong enough to resist falling off if you flick or drop the figure.
  15. Very nice MOC! The decorations on the carriage are superb and the choice of minifigures is perfect. Job well done!
  16. That is a very neat idea, and it certainly is possible. Looking at how there have been versions of the same line both in the adventures theme and as a historic theme, I wouldn't be surprised if 2012 brings us such jewels and more.
  17. Wow, this project really is ambitious. You know, I found myself in a similar boat when I realized that I barely had enough blay bricks to build a tower, needless to say not enough for a castle. I am experimenting with techniques that diminish the amount of bricks I have to use, and make the best use of the bricks I have. I can't build a big castle, nor can I build an excellent medium castle, but I can sure as heck build a wonderful small castle, tower, or part of one that will be up to par with my standard of a good MOC. Beware of building huge walls! Those eat up bricks like there's no tomorrow. I hope you build you dream castle some day!
  18. I too would have loved an ancient Egyptian theme but let's face it, that won't happen because it won't sell to kids. (Yes I know some kids would dig it, but it's not a sound marketing strategy ) Look at all of the current themes that are out and are not Lego town; they are ALL fantasy-based and that's part of the Lego appeal. I look at the theme as a useful source of parts and new molds that could be used to alter the sets, (If you buy 20 or so series 2 pharaohs and arm them with the new sword and shield there's your army, and you could go above and beyond combining torsos and heads etc.) To me the fact that there is an Egyptian theme is enough, and the rest is up to what you build with it. Unfortunately for us history buffs, our ideal themes remain in MOC land.
  19. Hey that's not half bad! To be honest there really isn't all that much difference between the proportions of the QAR in the photos and the proportions of some classic Lego ships. I just hope she's crewed by a whole mob of dirty-looking pirates with accessories and clothing in colors different than the usual cheerful blue and red. This might be some of the best source of new parts and torsos for the pirates theme since the 90's! I really want to see what they do with the redcoats uniform. (I see a new army on the rise on the high Lego seas )
  20. $40 for the carriage! That's a little nuts, you can buy 2 prison sets for that money and get better parts/figures. I guess this will be to the Kingdoms line what the Sphinx set was to the Pharaoh's Quest theme; expensive and unexciting.
  21. Ah, now I see it, those indentations are hiding behind the water mark so damn well.
  22. I bet they all have to be calibrated to ensure they spin properly and the labor is included in the price...
  23. I actually don't see the motorcycle's final version as a downgrade, it's mostly substitutions of parts to eliminate any fragile components and to make the design look more flush and liken it to other production sets. Those engine scoop parts look like they'll come of every time you round a corner with this thing, so they might have replaced them with something slimmer to make for a better play feature.
  24. Guys it's all good, and I'll refrain from telling people what not to do as well. Now about the sets, I'm looking at the tri-pod invader and I'm not sure what piece it is that they used on the laser out front. It's something round and in light blay but I can't seem to make out what exactly it is. I'd say it's a new piece that houses a bulb for a laser function, but it doesn't have a sticker to promote any kind of lighting effect. Can anyone think of what that part is?
  25. It most certainly could be, he seems to be the most decorate Dragon knight yet. I doubt he will be the "ultimate boss" by the time this theme concludes, but so far it's the best we've gotten. As far as armor, I would be surprised if it's any color other than dark pearl gray, the one thing that surprises me is the inclusion of a visored helm since this is a type that was introduced much later than the bucket helm, and to have both at the same time is a bit inaccurate, but there are also dragons and wizards so I'm not one to complain about historical inaccuracy.
