  1. That is a very valid point CommanderR, I can see this in dark green along with a dragon fortress, perhaps one based around a huge dragon cage. I mean, all other Lego themes contain elements of fantasy, I don't see why this one should be a strictly "historic" theme. Even in the old 90's sets there were wizards dragons and "undead" of sorts. I agree this line isn't Lord Of The Rings like the Castle line was trying to be, but in a way i prefer to have this subdued folklore-ish magic than simply human vs. human in different color schemes.
  2. Yes! These look great and the official pic looks pretty much unchanged from the preliminary. I think the beard on the fisherman is going to make a big impact on history, action and town MOC'ers! The elf is going to be the most popular hands down; I can see people amassing legions of these guys and of course now we have the last and long-awaited faction from Fantasy era Castle! Unlike the previous series, this one has something exciting and special in each figure (no more crash test dummies, witches, ring masters and divers!) I won't be disappointed about getting multiples of any of them, save maybe for the sumo wrestler, but all is good because the trophy and hair save him from being generic.
  3. Looking at the prelims I cannot wait to see official pics soon. It looks to me like there are 2 types of mummy faces, one uncovered, and one only partially uncovered. The first reveals the mummy's entire face and the second only has one eye peeking out. It seems more than plausible to me that these are reversible, as in you have both printed on one head and you face out whichever you want. Does anyone else notice this?
  4. When you think about it this is a master move by Lego!! AFOL's have been complaining about lack of civilian sets for years and when the MMV came out it was the holy grail of sets! With a wave of Kingdoms sets released last summer to keep the kids happy, and with no new sets this spring they can just bring in this exclusive and hit us over the head with it (or over the wallet so to speak) I can't wait to see the details; painted horses and sheep will make a phenomenal addition to any other civilian MOC's. I can see it looking something like this: (at least the color scheme) As far as sheep I will need to get a herd of 10 or more!!
  5. CALLED IT!!! Haha
  6. I'm actually hoping for a lot more civilian sets as well, I would kill to see a set of a peasant hovel that can be rebuild i 2 or 3 ways, so that you can grab like 6 a make a small town; I would also love to see a windmill, and a farmhouse. Having said that I think the next wave of Kingdoms, if it comes, will be a return of the forest-men faction. I can see there being a lot of really great natural fortresses, tons of unique plant and tree ideas, and most of all I am really anticipating some new animal molds!! (Just imagine deer, or a wild hog, or a brown bear!!!)
  7. I second that Looks like the Lego group always comes back to it's surefire formulas. Yes, some themes are calculated risks, but with themes like Adventures you cannot go wrong!
  8. I think the collectible minifigures 3 mummy is meant to be a classic monster that's been exaggerated to look like the classic movie version (much like the witch, the vampire and the zombie were) It looks very different because it isn't supposed to fit the other themes, and it certainly wouldn't belong in the Adventures line. Using it alongside the Pharaoh's quest mummies, would be like putting the series 2 witch in a Kingdoms set; plausible but awkward. I also think the collectible series are not meant to be serious; they all have a bit more cartoony exaggerated expressions and body prints, which are great on their own, but not great for mixing them in with other themes (with the notable exception of all city themed figures, as well as the western/sports/space) The historic figures and the monsters are a bit funnier than they would be in a theme. Having said all of that I love them all and can't wait for series 3 and 4!
  9. I think there are high hopes for the return of a western theme; just look at the collectible minifigs! True, they don't indicate what sets will be released, but they are supposed to be an indication of what Lego thinks is a good part of popular culture. Just the fact that they have made 4 of the 32 that have come out so far as western minifigures, proves to me that the theme is still a very good possibility for the Lego Group. Having said that I really hope Lego continues the Kingdoms theme with more new sets and new factions; it was the first theme that compelled me to actually build an army, and I would hate to see it discontinued after just one year; I guess no new sets planed for 2011 so far... As far as an ideal historic theme, I would love to see this new adventures theme from 2011 take on a few more regions of the world; notably Greece. They could call it "Zeus's Quest" and have a whole bunch of temples, hoplites and mythical creatures. Mythology, unlike fantasy, I feel is a lot more historic. I mean, when we think of Ancient Greece we think of Homer's rendition, and not so much the true-to-form history. I feel a Roman theme would have to be historic, but the Greek would just be dull without the mythology. Lastly, I would really be amazed and pleasantly surprised if Lego released a theme like Kingdoms but several hundred years in the future, (either colonial or Napoleonic time) They could call it "Empires" and have a whole bunch of generic nations and men in uniform in a late 18th century getup, with muskets. Knowing Lego like I do, it probably won't happen, but one can dream!
  10. One point to each of the following: #11) Jungle explorer entry (Diidy) #28) Mexican Entry (Mariko) #43)Mime Artist Entry (L-Space) Reason: The desk in #11, is simply incredible, it feels realistic and to scale, despite how small the base of the vignette is; truley worth the vote. For # 28, I am in awe of the techniques used in this one; from the kitchen to the upstairs room, it is subtle and perfectly laid out, very clean and yet full of amazing detail. Wonderful! And #43; L-Space you are a comic genius, Sir Pratchett would be proud! The vignette carries the same mellow comic undertone that all Discoworld novels convey. "Learn the Words"!!!! Great work!
  11. Phenomenal Ideas! The best techniques/ aesthetics is what I'm voting for: 1 point for #3) Spaceman & Pharaoh by Optimus 1 point for #8)Robot & Jungle Explorer by lisqr 1 point for #12) Diver and Surfer by squiz
  12. This theme, now that I think about it, is like a cross between an Indiana Jones movie and "Age of Mythology" from Ensemble studios! That's a win in my book, but there is something that worries me; Unlike the original Adventures line where Johnny was the main character and had a whole cast of friends and foes to bring to the adventure with him, in this line all of the adventurers seem very generic, and there doesn't seem to be a main character. It's almost like the dive crews from Atlantis, or the Power Miners where they pretty much include minifigures to fill a niche, and not necessarily to tell a story. Of course these are prelims and a lot of the faces/pieces will change but it's nowhere near as distinct of a character base as Adventures had.
  13. I think the reason Lego is going this route with the theme as opposed to a historic theme is because the historic options don't look too good. Thinking of the kingdoms sets, no particular European nation can be pinpointed as the nation from the sets. They all look Anglo-Saxon/ French but there are no clear correlations or religious elements involved. This isn't so for Egypt; so Lego would not make sets that single out nations and pin them against an enemy. (Except licensed sets) And for that matter who would the enemy be?? Depending on the period they can pin them against middle eastern nations, or Romans and that's a whole lot of politics. Not to mention they'd have to make a Roman theme also. ( I also don't think Lego wants to copy Playmobil's themes exactly) If they went the Adventures route, and simply introduced a group of "evil" explorers it would be a bit Indiana Jones'ish and they already had a theme like that. I think this is their break from the constrains of the old Adventures and the Indiana Jones series. Is it perfect, no. I really dislike the statues coming alive business, but the explorers are great, the building and accessories are amazing, and if they want to give us a whole bunch of mummy figs in cheap sets, I say go for it. I could always get a whole bunch of collectible mini figure Pharaohs and swap out some parts and make an old Egyptian army. That's how it is with most themes, I have yet to buy a set I/m fully happy with so I change things around; for all its worth this is a great theme and I hope they continue it for at least as long as Atlantis was out.
  14. Although it's very strange it has great potential, and if not taken seriously as a set, then it is a great place for parts. Personally that bone piece is just calling out to me; same with the skeleton armor. I will say that the skeleton with the huge molded spiny head does look really really weird; kind of a homage to bad anime movies I suppose
  15. Well now, that is great news! I'm surprised by how many giant built creatures there are, but they don't really bother me all too much. the motorcycle set is a must buy in multiples!! These are all prelim, so I can't wait to see the final versions of all the headgear and the face/body prints. That is indeed a new face print with a soul patch in the pilot; I'd say the only set I'm not in love with is the giant cobra, but I'll have to wait to see the official pics! Thank you so much Nausi!!!!
  16. You are a phenomenal man! This is sounding better and better! If it's too much trouble to post pictures, could you describe what the mummies look like for us?? Face print? Color? Accessories and these exclusive helmets!! Also what colors are the bigger vehicles like the half-track?
  17. Are we a short few hours away from seeing these first images for real!
  18. Oh jeez, so they are doing turn-based strategy board game! I guess it's a neat idea; I'm not sure about how much people would like it though; those are very nit-picky details and it's very time consuming and doesn't exactly appeal to kids. Having said that; if it's a really simplified version of let's say Warhammer, then it will have tremendous potential for growth. UHH I hate just speculating though, I'm really pumped for seeing prelims; I'm checking these forums every few hours, and whenever I get breaks in the mad hope of getting some official images!
  19. So how does the card game fit into these huge sets? I guess if different ninjas have different "stats" and can fight one another, than each villain has different point values? Are they trying to start a Lego war-game? I wonder how many points that bulky chopper is worth? In all seriousness, I'm not discarding this theme just on the basis of this set. Sure, I won't be collecting it but it's gonna be a holy grail of parts and accessories. I love that bone handle he's got; I hinally have something to arm my zombie horde with!
  20. Just out of curiosity: where do people find these confidential pics? Are they sent out to retailers as previews, or are they acquired through knowing someone at the Lego Group??
  21. Is it just me or is the biker holding a new bone mold as the base of his ax?? I think the concept is a little nuts, and certainly looks a bit out of place with the recent lines of great sets, but I feel if they do the chopper right and make minor adjustments to the design, it could be if nothing else, a great set for parts and accessories. This did make me laugh, because it seems Lego is trying to do what Games Workshop did with their factions in Warhammer; they introduce a race of skellies in a fantasy knights setting, and then bring them back as post-apocalyptic future warriors. I wouldn't be surprised to see other sets with orks yielding machine guns
  22. Great! That sword is classic, and I'm happy they didn't just stick a katana or an Arabic blade on these guys! I can't wait to hear more about this line and especially to see these sets in the prelim pics; if it's not too much trouble could you note the kind of minifigs that come in this line on the Egyptian side; I mean I know there are a lot of details to remember but some info like the number of mummies in each set, notable parts, accessories and bits, and also new/improved pieces and molds would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your info so far, you've inspired me to start planning great builds
  23. Great stuff! This is seriously gonna hurt my wallet, but what are you gonna do, it's adventures and I missed out on all the big sets when the originals came out. Do I understand correctly or is every set a battle between explorers and mythical mummy creatures? If so what kind of mythical creatures are there? Are they just minifigs, or are there new animal molds such as sphinxes lions etc?? I would love to see some new animals! From what i hear this series is gonna be a treasure trove of unique pieces and treasure items; great for MOC'ing! I'm very interested in seeing this new sword that was mentioned above; from what I understand it looks like this: Please keep updating us with news and details nausicaakro!
  24. For whatever reason I couldn't find it in me to pay $45 for the calendar to be delivered from S@H, and when I got down to it, the only figures I actually wanted were the wizard and the page/prince/noble guy. So after some deliberation I went on bricklink and ordered both, got them shipped to me, accessories and all for $10. I'm afraid that's gonna be it for me unless I physically see it in stores or under 35$, but other than that, I don't really need extra soldiers, peasants or weapons; those are much more accessible through the cheaper sets
  25. Ditto, I can't wait to see what 2011 will bring for the kingdoms line; amongst hundreds of speculations and hopes fueled by wishful thinking, it's clear people want to see some kind of riffraff faction of robbers, forest-men, or the like. Perhaps Lego will deliver, and then the balance issue won't be as major; you'' be able to supplement either side of the current factions with mercs. I wouldn't mind seeing another Kingdom appear, although I hope more changes than just the color scheme. I hope they introduce a Spanish faction (Like knights from Castille, so that the buildings can look a bit different and not just Anglo-Saxon, Norman. I also would love to see more civilian sets; just think if you could get a modular house set whch came with peasants and farm animals. I'd get 10 and build a village; all of these are possibilities for breaking up the consistent power struggle issue, and refreshing the line
