Looking for feedback on Stop Motion and review video
SteampunkDoc replied to Playwell Bricks's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Thanks for posting! I'm really glad you're actively seeking feedback. That's a fantastic way to improve. There are two major things you will want to work on. The first is smoothing out your animation. Have you ever heard the term 'easing?' I explain it a bit more in the lesson that I wrote, but it's a technique where you begin a motion in small increments that get bigger toward the middle, then slow down again at the end. That way, the motion looks more smooth and natural than it would otherwise. Practicing that will help your movements become less jerky and jumpy. The second is simple. Bring your camera down into the Lego world. You've got it was up and out, and the guys at the bottom of the frame. This distance from them creates the perception of distance from the characters. In other words, people can't get as immersed in the film if the camera is not. So bring it down, and bring the guys more into the frame. Have you heard of the "Rule of Thirds?" That would help your framing a lot. Hope this is helpful. Keep practicing, and thanks again for posting! -
A small piece of chaos has always existed, a rouge element that refused to be tamed, lying hidden in the labyrinth of the inner city streets. But when the strange burning light becomes more aggressive, Alex Temnota is tasked with stopping it at all costs. But as the light's influence threatens to destroy everythinghis entire world, it becomes apparent that even the most extreme measures may not be enough. Don't believe that I've ever shared this here before. Hope you like it, and feel free to leave feedback!

EB Xmas Raffle 2015-Your ideal Christmas tree - Winners
SteampunkDoc replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Town
First, congratulations to all the winners. It's quite an honor, don't take it for granted. Second, thanks Copmike for going to all this trouble for us. You're an amazing guy. Third, this may be my first year not to win. No biggie, somebody's gotta lose for others to have the blessing of winning. That being said, if I have my math right, the rest of us have around a 1 in 6 chance at winning something. Which means I have about a 1 in 12 chance of getting one of the prizes that I'd prefer. BUT, we all also have a 1 in 12 chance at getting all those glorious dinos. So there's some good news too! But ya'll are right, those odds aren't in our favor. -

EB Xmas Raffle 2015 - Your ideal Christmas tree entry thread
SteampunkDoc replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Town
The Christmas Tree by SteampunkDoc, on Flickr I kinda feel bad throwing this in with all of these incredibly creative and fun entries. But, somebody has to put out a boring and traditional tree and I might as well be that guy. -
Finally some set details, thanks a ton! It sounds just about perfect, a good TARDIS interior, a great minifigure selection, and a price tag that allows for a bigger, more substantial build. I just hope we don't repeat the availability issues that some of the other Ideas sets had.

LED Lights that are suitable for LEGO?
SteampunkDoc replied to General Magma's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A lot of people use Lifelites. I do, and they're awesome. And while I don't have any experience with them, Brickstuff lights look good as well.- 9 replies

Let's share our funny interesting photos!
SteampunkDoc replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nice picture Oky! It does a great job showing off the details in the model, and has quite a bit of personality about it. Too bad it was cut. In a similar vein to Oky's nice shot, here's a frame from the animation I'm currently working on. The black and white should give away the noir setting, but sometimes cool shots aren't about what you show, but about what you don't. Sweet D/L Frame #1 by SteampunkDoc, on Flickr -
Oh dear, just had a nostalgia overload. Played the first two games quite a bit growing up, and this looks like a worthy sequel. Won't buy it, seeing as I don't have a console, but I'm sure a friend or two will get it sooner or later. Although I have to wonder about the RotJ Luke showing up on Hoth.

Angry Birds 2016 Rumors & Discussion
SteampunkDoc replied to Lordofdragonss's topic in LEGO Licensed
Angry Birds, seriously? Didn't that game fade out of the public eye quite a while ago? It's getting a movie!!??? Whose idea was that? And we're missing a final Lego LOTR wave, but getting this instead? I have to agree wholeheartedly with this post. Whatever. Life goes on, and Lego's doing well enough to survive this, even if it completely fails. So really, other than the negative press, this shouldn't affect our beloved TLG too badly. No need to worry...I hope. I have to wonder about the sets. Will they be Minecraft style landscapes with a new "Slingshot" piece and some brick-built birds? With extra parts and instructions on how to build new configurations to knock down? And how will they portray the birds special abilities, or will they even try? It's interesting to think about...Could yield some decent parts and prints too. So there's a tiny silver lining to look forward to, if nothing else. And until the mods fix it, you can use color changes to by-pass the filter. Turn a few letters in the middle to black, which is the default color anyway, and you're good to go. -
http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ if you want just the audio. http://youtubeinmp4.com/ if you want the video and the audio. They aren't going to get you HD or anything special, but they are the easiest and simplest by far.
-
You find the trailer on Youtube, and either download just the audio, or download the whole thing and then rip out the audio. There are plenty of sites and programs that can do that, so just look around and find your favorite.
-
Yep, that's probably going to be the best way to do it. The scene is just too big and complex to handle all practically and in-camera.
-
Here's a video that makes extensive use of a blue poster board: And as a bonus, here's a white wall lit with a colored light.
-
I just use a large piece of blue poster board and leave it at that. Plop it behind the set and instantly you've got a good sky backdrop. Green screens are really hard to use, and unless you're really good, they end up looking terrible. Also, I find the juxtaposition of a Lego set and figures with a real-life sky rarely looks nice. There's just such a contrast between the two that they don't mesh well. With brickfilms, it's sometimes the simplest solution that works the best, especially if you don't have much experience.

Lego Jurassic World (Video Game Discussion)
SteampunkDoc replied to Amazing Bricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
OK, the teaser was cool enough already, but that trailer just sold me. Seems they regained their sense of humor and fun and freshness that was lost in the Hobbit. Any idea what the pre-order figure will be? That may be the final push I need to crack open the ole wallet.- 79 replies

SteampunkDoc replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes! Thank you CopMike for sacrificing all the time and money necessary to do this for the community. It's a great work, and I don't think we appreciate you enough. Once again, I congratulate all the winners, and hope that the respective postal services all do a swift and loss-free job. (Also hoping I'm in the next batch of shipments. ) -
Blakstone, I will be willing to trade. Prize D has a black Batman, Flash, and Nightwing, all figures I'd love. I love that TDK Joker, but...that Flash though.

Raffle Entry picture by SteampunkDoc, on Flickr A good DSLR would be nice. Not only for brickfilming, but for photography and live-action filmmaking. Of course, that would require several different lenses and adapters and things, but hey, might as well dream big while I'm dreaming. -
Thanks again for posting this! The project has passed the goal, and is now nearing the very first stretch goal, so thanks a ton everybody! It's great just to know that it will actually be completed and that soon there will be an official brickfilming documentary. If you haven't yet, don't forget to donate, as it will end here in just a few days. As it would be amazing to at least pass the first stretch goal.

Help support a Brick Flick Documentary!
SteampunkDoc replied to SteampunkDoc's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Hey guys, the funding has sadly stalled on this project. Please don't let this fail! Even if you haven't donated, would you consider sharing this around? It would be a total shame if this project failed after coming so far. Also, is there a way to frontpage this or get it in a more visible position? I feel that this is going unnoticed because it is hidden away in a more obscure and little seen section of the site.- 5 replies

Something that would help promote the hobby and provide a lot of great information and entertainment? Bricks in Motion - A Documentary about LEGO® Filmmaking Kickstarter page With interviews, exclusive animations, and the guiding hands of the best minds the hobby has to offer, it would be a shame if this documentary failed in the funding. Guaranteed to educate and endear itself to all lovers of Lego stop-motion, as well as those AFOLs who love great models and the telling of fantastic tales, there's nothing that can't be loved about this project. Plus, the perks contain some amazing models and Brickfilm collections that are sure to delight. Would you please consider donating towards this worthy cause?
