The Curse of IMHOTEP - Confirmation & Discussion
def replied to Rufus's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Thanks for having me It's a well-made game. Best of luck to all players... Except Sandy. Sandy, eat my shorts -
You know what? I genuinely hadn't considered the marketing strategy of sending them to girls in hopes of those girls showing it to their friends, and, considering it now, it makes perfect sense, it's a great meta-marketing plan: send them to the target markets' Friends <wink wink> Substituting the regular mag without consulting people, rather than adding it to the regular mag or simply sending it as an additional magazine, was, in retrospect, the obvious course of action. The cutting girls out of the regular mag too. It was brilliant marketing. After all, that's why we love LEGO, right? Their savvy marketing. I know that's why I'm an AFOL. The ads. They have the best marketing in the world. I had worried that a lot of people in this thread were just obsessive LEGO fanboys (or girls) incapable of taking any criticism of the beleaguered LEGO corporation, unable to acquiesce any point whatsoever or attempt to find a middle ground, much less attempt to reach some sort of understanding with those who don't think the Friends line is 100% awesome (like myself. I only think thought it's 50% awesome). I realize this was my own misunderstanding of the grander vision of the posters here, and I will rethink my position until it comes more in line with others here, until I can confidently unequivocally state that those who have criticisms of the line are stupid and ridiculous, and need to get a life, or whatever has been said here, since I now have the explanations to back up those statements. Thanks for opening my eyes to the truth. Cheers

Oh no, there is no chance you would have survived. When you are the lynch-vote leader, and nobody is coming to your defense, the only appropriate townie-response is to out your role. Luckily, in this situation, being a vanilla townie is enough to save you from the lynch mob. Always glad to have another virgin on board. If only poor, sweet Father Tomato could be here to see us lynch our first cultist He would be so proud of us all, I know he would

Wow, I suppose the adults out there discussing TLG and Friends are just being immature, because they can't deal with the fact LEGO is superior. So, for the fun of it, they hate on LEGO. It's a possibility. Your insight into the issue is noted

Sorry, I misread your post. I didn't deny it, I just ignored you. There is a big difference between the two. I should have corrected that. I stand by my point that I was able to see more by leaving that out until later, and add that no harm was done, since I wouldn't have let it come to a vote. Therefore, it was helpful That's two games in a row I caught you Yeah, it's okay if you hate me from now on, I'll understand. I will say that you changed your tactics this time, sort of. Actually, not that much . Oh well, see you on the other side

It was helpful to me (and thereby, the whole town)

There hasn't been a psychiatrist in games here in the past, and scum have been criticized and caught in the past for making weak claims to justify them being out at night... So, psychiatrist would be a good false claim to make, plausible to occur, but still unlikely. Anyway, I'm going for a long, long stroll, and (hopefully) won't be hanging around here when the sun goes down, so I'm going to drop another "fact bomb" on the group: My investigator was also told that they 'thought' they investigated Mehmet, which is why I didn't come down on him due to the investigation today. I was told this at the time, well before the Mirror Cloak story came up. It was in the best interest of town to have discussion without confirming any part of his story so I held it out. That discussion has come and went, and now we seem to be focusing on that barnacle on a camel's bottom, Melaena Stools. Will she be scum? Hard to say, but she should be role-claiming pretty soon. If someone else wants to repost my banner for her, by all means

I realize from the last time I interacted with you that you're more concerned with being right than discussion, so I won't dwell on this too much. I have more problems with the marketing than the sets. If you read through the thread rather than cherry-picked a single comment, you would have known that. And that I've ordered two sets for myself. If that makes me guilty of a boycott and a petition in your mind, oh well. As for petitioning Polly Pocket and Barbie, you're not the first to say that in this thread, and you would know why it's a poor comparison if you'd read through, but I'll give it to you in a nutshell. People have far different expectations of the LEGO brand than they do of Mattel or whoever. That's one reason the AFOL community is so strong, the company's reputation is so great, and why LEGO is consistently a recommended toy. You can't say the same about Barbie, which looks more archaic every year, despite whatever fans they have. For the most part, the toys I buy my daughter are gender neutral. We're planning on buying a doll-house soon for her, but I don't consider that "GIRLS," at least not the ones we're looking at (they aren't "pink-heart mansion"). It's a matter of opinion where to draw the line between boys and girls toys. I don't think pink is an evil color, nor will I forbid it from my daughter's life. But I will not bathe her in pink toys and clothes. She's more of a 'person' than simply a 'girl'. Likewise, if I have a son, I will not force the color blue on them. It's really a matter of personal opinion, and the job of a good parent to consider these sorts of things. She has a colorful necklace and bracelet, but she never wears it. She really likes LEGO, especially Cars sets, puzzzles, and anything electronic. For the record, she likes red and green most at the moment. She has a pink down jacket at the moment. I don't know why you were asking me about how I dress my daughter, but, I've shared with you. Pink is allowed, but it's not a mandate. Just for the sake of things though, let's just say you're the winner in this discussion. I concede, I am "guilty" of being "ridiculous"

I can see the resemblance (and did when I drew it) but I actually just did a screen grab of the girl in True Grit. A relatively unflattering one at the start of the flick too. She doesn't really have a dopey expression for most of the film. Still, I think it was an interesting facial expression. Thanks

Just in brief, in case you actually think you made a defense... You said I said you implied I was 'town' (and even had it in quotes), while I wrote, 'an asset to town'. Different things, particularly on day one when nobody is cleared. So, you are wrong. Spam is not role-playing. Role-playing is when I say, "You could say Ra told me," since we're in Egypt, you know? So maybe your word spamming is role-playing, but my word for role-playing is not spamming. So, you are wrong. Yeah, well, they were all wrong, weren't they? Nope, I've named others. I was replying to your accusation that I "singled" you out, and I was pointing out that there were two others, so I suppose you were "tripled" or "thirded"... So, you are wrong. ****A reminder to all the townies out there: when making a defense, an honest, town defense, it's best to be straight with your accusations, because manipulating what was said to suit your story looks scummy. Case in point: Stools says I singled her out of all that voted for me. I retort that I voted for two others as well (not in any way limiting the people I have suspicions of to simply those three, which can further be supported by past statements in thread where I have called out others). Stools then makes the logical fallacy of stating that I'm "only concerned about the people who voted for (me)". This is a dangerous defense, since it's both so sneaky looking, and wrong. Townies, don't defend yourself in this way. Scum, please do, it makes it easier to call you out. Fair enough. Not voting is still not a town strategy when there are so many heads on the chopping block. Huh? If I was right to be suspicious of Nadir, why not vote for him then? I think it's quite possible to make good defenses, while at the same time, not be me. It has occurred. I'll let you know if you ever make one

Really, was that the irritation? Receiving the magazine without the option to receive it? Yeah, what I wrote before about the need of Friends-supporters to quash criticism goes for this comment too. It's easy to sound rational by framing the other side with an argument nobody made Wow, please, allow me to actually sum it up: the people complaining about it on Facebook, and signing an online petition, by and large, are not AFOLs. The people on this site are. I've only read half of this thread, but in those posts, I haven't seen any calls to destroy the theme or boycott the company. So, the people here, hemming and hawing about the AFOLs attitude about the Friends line, well, it's a knee-jerk, unfounded opinion, to put it lightly. I have a feeling that you have actually read very little of the discussion on the topic, here or elsewhere

That's not what I wrote. Probably why you don't know what it means Sure thing, Pool Cue I most certainly did not call him out on his roleplaying. You can tell by the fact that I never wrote anything of the sort Oh, it was perfectly normal. I'm not lying. If there was Skype here in this desert, I would... Oh who am I kidding, I wouldn't waste the time. But, my absolute disdain for those who voted for me day one is a great example of the degree to which I think it was not only normal, but pro-town! I singled out Taylor already, and Mehmet on day one. I can tell you aren't keeping a notebook Why would you? Nobody would support it. And abstaining from a vote on day two when there are five candidates doesn't make you look any more town. I think it's hypocritical to imply I'm an asset to town, then vote me out with a group. That's why I wrote it in the paragraph summarizing my previous statements. I don't know if you're scum, but you're scummy, and your defense isn't doing you any favors. " That's why I wrote it in the paragraph summarizing my previous statements. " That's why I wrote it in the paragraph before I summarized my statements, calling you hypocritical. Sorry, confusing structure there
-
First of all, get a life and grow up, baby This is not a situation of "vote out the person with the attitude you dislike". It's a situation of "look out for your team". But, Nadir has pointed out something incredibly useful here. You did support me before that, letting him know that I was useful to town. "Fitzy over there may be a bit squeaky on the hinges, but at least he knows who to scribble down in that little notebook of his. " Then, you decide to vote for me when there are a base of votes there. I think with your bad karma from your past lives, yeah, that's what you would do. Support me when there are no votes to stay on my good side (sorry, I hadn't even read it either ), and then take the chance to get me out when you can. What we can see from this is that you publicly implied I was an asset to the town, then tried to take a chance to get me out when the numbers were in your favor. Your crime is worse than Taylor's. She plays with a poor strategy (sorry to reiterate that, Taylor, it's simply part of a dramatic structure), while you're playing with an anti-town one... floating in back and merging with the group, only speaking up to take out the people you want gone. You wanted me gone for either personal reasons or for scum reasons (or both ), but either way, you were going against the statement you had made only a short while before, highlighting my use to the camp. Town, I speak to you, from this poor, humble virgin's heart. Let's lynch this hypocrite Stools. Let's clean up this godforsaken camp by taking out someone who isn't a team player. megablocking megablok! Virgin claims are easily verified, either by the Virgin Cop, or by the tracker (since there will be nothing to track), so let's leave Taylor till tomorrow, when she can introduce a great new strategy... maybe alphabetical voting or something
-
Of course, I don't hold grudges. But, maybe in future games you may want to rethink your strategy... I want to quote whatever condescending advice you gave me 'yesterday', but I don't feel like taking the time to look it up Honestly though, I don't care, I just consider you part of the fool's jury trying to convict me yesterday, trying to teach me how to respect people... I consider this your karma, I suppose You're all good in my book
-
I have to say, I find your attitude both aggressive and patronizing Amazing what a person sounds like when appeals to reason are consistently ignored on all sides, isn't it? Of course, I will not use this behavior of yours to put a nail in your coffin, since I look at the bigger picture
-
Thanks. No new comics at the moment. I'm suffering from writers block So, I'm just going to draw.
-
Not scummy in the least. Not at all. I will add that my my list of your bad strategies.
-
On the last page of this discussion, one of your defenses of your own innocence is that you were active and busy and scum wouldn't do that... But when you voted for me, I was doubly active and busy, and actually had shared info to help the town organize, and I was not the vote leader. So, if anyone had a grudge, it wasn't me. And then you planned to vote for whoever got voted first. That was your strategy to lure out scum. So, yeah, I think most of what you did day one was bad strategy, and I say that in an objective way. When you do something positive, I'll be sure to praise you In the absence of a solid candidate, I will choose someone who isn't being helpful. You are currently on that list. Hmmm. I haven't asked you to get involved in the arguing. I haven't accused you of not reading things. And I certainly haven't asked you to start talking to Manmeat. It's convenient to make defences to things I didn't say, but far better to do something beneficial. What I would point out is that you are one of the ones not particularly expressing opinions. An active town is a scary one for scum. Accusations, particularly ones based on something, and not your gut, are very useful. Having them in the public record is also useful, should you unfortunately die, and your affiliation is revealed. Checking in when you get name-checked and saying you have nothing much to add is not terribly useful. Why not publicly state your opinion on the innocence of the people under scrutiny today? Would it hurt the town to share your opinions? I think all people sharing opinions helps town.
-
I'm really torn, since I think you deserve to be lynched for your bad strategies, without any better choices, and I'm inclined to believe Manmeat's claims so far, so we don't have a fair target. In light of the absolute lack of evidence about you, and your history of bad strategies, I Unvote: Jennifer Taylor (Sandy) Rather I will vote for someone who has done nothing of note other than agree with the crowd: Vote: Melaena Stools (CallMePieOrDie) There are a number of other low-key non-participators (Hans Gubernaculum, Mellifluous Murgatroyd, Toulouse Leplot, Ishaq Ettaq, some others), who I think need to get active to show they are interested in getting things done. Unless of course they blabbed everything already to Manmeat.

I'm guessing they all are, but I haven't seen them yet. I imagine in the more rural areas, they are a must. I'm looking forward to the Snow Festival too, but I probably won't post the pictures here; not enough LEGO
-
Funny. I'm not going to look back on day one again, but, well, you voted for me
-
I'm not calling you scum. I think we're in a questionable place without a solid lynch. I do think you showed an extreme lack of strategy day one, with your whoever-gets-first-vote plan, and placing me as the lynch nominee despite all signs showing to me not being scum. So thanks a bunch I think your glass house just exploded
-
To the person I had this conversation with in PM: Did I call it or did I call it? The treadmill is in full operation.

I was just wondering why you are so confident of this. It seemed like you were stating him clear as an accepted fact. My sincerest apologies for misconstruing that from your acceptance of tripped-out things
