Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
def replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I just caught this yesterday, and I enjoyed it. I usually only watch 3-4 episodes of any Doctor Who season, they start tiring me out pretty quickly. Amy Pond was really, really foxy. It doesn't come across so much in the photos, but her eyes are lovely on film. I suppose I'll be watching it just for her for a bit. The doctor was alright, but he didn't have so much charisma. The last two doctors had so much wit just in their eyes, with a glance, and this guy doesn't have that... yet. -
I really did like that series. I read pretty much all of the first 350 issues of Amazing Spider-man more than once for some of them, so I have a lot of affection for the era they were portraying in the show, and could appreciate that where they deviated from the book, it kept the spirit intact. There's nearly 50 years of history to the character ( ) so it's hard to satisfy all the people all the time. Spider-man 3 really mucked up the spirit of the story though. Spider-man is such a great character when people who understand him are writing him.

Stunning work, the detailing is excellent Does it fit minifigs?

I was able to download the other podcasts, but this one seems to be Flash only. Is there a link to a downloadable mp3?

Brickbeard's Bounty, minus the minifigs, for half price. I got 8 of the 9 figs in the advent calendar, which I also got for half price, so all is well.

But I was all ready to be a head admin at Euroblox I spent the weekend making a banner for you... The pain... the regret... the sorrow...

The stubble on the chefs made me laugh. They must be overworked.

Digital Painting - Brickbeard versus Broadside 2009

Should have commented on this when I first saw it, but I was too jealous This guy has piles of talent. Very very polished looking piece. -
Ah! You beat me to it. I was sure at a glance that it was a machine that takes poor photographs. Though it hardly should qualify as top secret.

As Holodoc offered, yeah, I'm on a Mac. In regards to Photoshop, I think they're pretty much the same. I use Macs because they have a better daily experience. Though I haven't used Windows post-Vista, which I've heard is becoming more and more Mac-like. Anyway, before the Mac-hating Walrus rears its head... I agree that Photoshop in its full form is intimidating. It was bewildering when I first used it 10 years ago or so, and I expect it's harder to jump into now that its been expanded on for a decade. Tutorials are the way to learn, rather than a textbook. It's how I learned (and learn), and the reason I started this thread. Please do invest in a graphics tablet. It will change your life if you enjoy digital art whatsoever. We're a long way from the computers Tom Cruise used in Minority Report, but Wacom's tablets seem to be a nice middle ground... and their graphics monitor is even scarier and futuristic, not to mention unaffordable. Let's get to work!

I'm disappointed by all the doubting Thomas' here. I will gladly join you in the halls of the new Euroblox empire. How is this as a motto: Value, Similarity, Megablocks ?
-
Funnily enough I was about to start a similar thread. I haven't decided, but considering the sheer amount of Megablocks I could get per Lego dollar has me on the fence. See you at EuroBlox!

Then you folks will probably love the Pokemon Kart that was announced. http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/28723

If it'll make a difference, I'll take you under my wing -
People are pretty savvy these days, since the Internet has created a boom in fake press releases... You need to boost the subtlety of your prank for it to succeed.

Wow. You really captured the shape and feeling of the ship. I'm always impressed with your stuff, and this tops that.

I really liked this movie, though I haven't seen it in 10 years. You're totally right about the non-traditional structure. I think it's important to remember that the whole of the movie takes place as their sick mother rests, which is why they moved to the country. Everything magical happens over the summer while they're in a new place, while their "real life" situation is quite confusing and over the girls' heads. The movie never explains what happens to them, why there are totoros and the catbus, it just lets them be. It makes this a really special movie. It's genuinely heartwarming. In Japan, it's still pretty popular. You can still find stuffed totoro toys in all the shopping malls and all the Miyazaki movies are next to the Disney classics at Toys R Us. Actually, I expected it to be on par, if I was going to enjoy it. It wasn't a matter of images, but of clever writing. The writing! (and I hardly consider Dreamworks one of the world's best in animation ) But, I never saw any of the unlicensed ones before this, so you could well be right that it was an overall improvement. Just that it wasn't something an AFOL needs to go out of their way to see. Those Travelers Tales games are satisfying and world class though, especially in comparison. They are on par with Pixar.

I wasn't particularly impressed. I like Pixar's stuff lots, and the occasional Dreamworks pic, but this movie didn't have 'magic' for me. It wasn't embarrassing or loaded with pop culture references, which I appreciate a lot, but it didn't do it for me. It made me think a lot of the Travelers Tales games, which I really like. They work great as three-minute bits between gameplay, but not as a 90-minute feature. I'm glad some reveled in this, and I'd probably check out a sequel, but this didn't expand my Lego enjoyment experience at all. It works as an extension of the brand for the target audience.

I like this thread! I'll try to do a Lego themed spring pic tomorrow

All you guys talking about Pokemon are making me feel old. I was around 20 when it boomed and never had any interest in playing it... It was pure kids stuff. 15 years later, well, everyone grows up, and everyone loves what they loved as kids (hence this site). I'm not considering playing it, but is there any value in Pokemon beyond nostalgia?

I loved the Richard Alpert episode. Questions were not answered, but the overall mythology was extended, and the Black Rock (and Richard) got its origin story. As well, the mystery of the island deepened, who is really good, vs. claiming they're good. Another eight hours or so left, let's hope they pull everything off.

Count me in! Is it still going to be Lost-themed? Or just island set? -
I was excited for this set before, and now I am a little more! Thanks for your great review.
