  1. Welcome Shroud! You seem to have big plans. Have fun at Eurobricks!
  2. Welcome to the forum! You're new here, but you joined almost the same time I did. Let's hope you start posting more.
  3. Welcome to Eurobricks! You're at a great age and in a great position to be a member here... An adult, returning from their dark ages! And you're European too Have fun, and explore the forum.
  4. The MTV was a little awkward in the animation, but the voice talent was great... Neil Patrick Harris has since become super popular, but at the time he was still just Doogie Howser. His voice is great as Spider-Man. Also, they set it at university, which is the best time period for Peter. Not too much responsibility, but not too much Aunt May and living in Queens. The writing was good too, they used the old characters to good effect. Not as good as Spectacular did, but it was well done. And it was targeted at teens (MTV) so it was more mature overall. The 90s one suffered from being on Fox, being in the 90s, being too immature, and having the worst spin off ever.
  5. I think it's in line with seizing control of their properties, and will pay off. It's no secret that the Marvel made movies have been of a higher quality than the outside studio ones, and I think the same will happen with the Disney studio animation. I was disappointed by the DVD movies that came out though, they weren't so great. Though truer to the characters than in the past. Also, I'll rename this "Marvel cartoons" so there's a little more flexibility.
  6. I didn't start a thread for every cartoon out there, and I'll probably never start a thread for another cartoon. I just like Spider-Man. Is that so wrong I've watched most of the five (?) generations of cartoon, from the 60s, 80s, 90s, and both from the 00s. The computer animated one from MTV with Neil Patrick Harris as Spider-Man was criminally passed over, in my opinion, while the 90s one is totally over-rated. This is worth chatting about (if you've seen them )
  7. There was some talk around here about the excellent Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon of the last few years, which was the best yet. But, it's been announced that that is over! And there will be a new one, based on the Ultimate version of the character! http://tv.ign.com/articles/108/1083412p1.html Spectacular was produced by Sony, the new one is for Disney. It's a shame, but the new one should, at the least, have high production values. Let's hope the writing team respects the series as much as Spectacular's team did.
  8. I'm a little nin-plussed by this set. The preview pictures looked really similar to the 2006 one, and this review just confirms it. It has to die for minifigs, but other than that, it's just frustrating to buy a ship that's changed so little. At least people who missed the last one have a second chance.
  9. Stewardess Flight Attendant Deborah Fredricks, on time for work
  10. In another review of the classic Star Wars sets, we have what was one of my favorites of the original line. Of course, it was updated a few years back, and will have another iteration in 2010. It's almost unfair to compare a set from 1999, but, let's do it anyway. Set#: 7130 Name: Snowspeeder Theme: Star Wars Year: 1999 Pieces: 212 Minifigs: 3; Luke Skywalker (Pilot), Dack Ralter, Hoth Rebel MSP: U.S.$20 Peeron Brickset Bricklink The box Thanks to Academy teacher Rufus for the sharp box shots The box front isn't quite as nice as the booklet... What's that grey thing to the right? The back is identical to the booklet. The sides show some play features and set details, as well as a good look at the minifigs. The booklets The cover is a notch above typical Star Wars cover art. If you look carefully, you can see the leg of an AT-AT to the right, while there is a beautiful Hoth landscape to the left. Really well done. As usual, some alternate builds, though neither are particularly interesting to me. The Pieces A mass of grey, which was standard in the early waves. There are two printed computer consoles, with AT-ATs on them, as well as two Rebel insignia plates. We get Dack Ralter, apparently, and a nice pilot Luke. He has a very slight variation on the old Lego face. The Hoth rebel is a curiosity. Is that some weird tattoo on his face, or a shock of hair? He has a nice print, and a visor. Very different than the contemporary ones. He also has a backpack. The rebel uniform is virtually unchanged in 10 years, just the pants and visors have changed. The Finished Product The rebel comes with an Atgar Cannon. It's not highly detailed, and somewhat of a throwaway item, but I knew what it was the moment I saw it (I had one of these in a Hoth playset in 1980). The gun swivels on the platform. Here, Luke admires his ship. I like the orange detailing, and the printed grey slope at the nose. The side profile is nice, and I think it captures the snowspeeder well. The overhead as well, captures the general shape of the ship well, but not perfectly, as we'll see... The front cockpit opens and Luke slides on in. He perpetually has an AT-AT in his sights. The back end opens up for Dack, and has what would be a symbolic harpoon on a swivel, but doesn't actually shoot anything. The center of the ship has a box that comes out, and a slot to hold the light saber handle. No place for the beam, but I don't mind. I don't care for these ships that have saber beam holders. It's too weird. Here is the speeder next to the one from set 7666. The most obvious difference is the color scheme. The white is a lot sharper. The laser cannons protrude just a bit more on the new one. And interestingly, the cockpit is unchanged. The silhouette is a bit different too, with the new one tapering in at the nose. Also, the old one opens the cockpit in two parts, whereas the new one opens both with a double hinge. In the movie, Luke and Dack were back to back, so the new one scores higher on that front. Here is the actual Rebel schematic for the ship. As we can see, from the key points in the nose and the wing greebling, the new one captures the ship much better. The Final Verdict Design: 9/10 Honestly, I like it in white more than I like it in grey, but I'm still happy with it when it isn't held side by side to the new one. This probably was the set from the early series that had the least alteration between versions (except maybe the Tie Fighter). Look at the X-Wing, Y-Wing, B-Wing, AT-ST, ... all were radically altered, but much of the design of this one held up years later. A majority of changes were greeble based. A winner! Build: 7/10 The side engines are dense, and fairly technical for the time, but it's just an average build overall. Playability: 9/10 I think it's a good Hoth starter set. The Rebel trooper adds a lot to the playability, you have Luke Skywalker with a chrome light saber. It's really good for its price range. Minifigures: 10/10 This was the only Hoth trooper for years, and you get two rebel pilots. I'm satisfied. Price: 9/10 $20, which would be about $25 in 2010 dollars. A nice ship and three figures seems a good deal, certainly on par with the Freeco speeder (adjusting your expectations for new molds and parts) Overall: 9/10 This was a good design, good value, useful minifigs, and not overly chunky. This is a good set by any standard, no apologies needed for it being from the 90s. While I'd recommend the newer ones over this one, if the price is right, it's surely worth getting.
  11. I'd go back and edit it to correct it, but I want to see how many other anal retentives point this out I don't remember it well enough to say... Here is a hint though, "We sent him to go live on a farm" is a euphemism
  12. This is really nice! I'm impressed with the updated Boba Fett helmet and jet pack, plus the cloak. Those designers keep stepping up their game. They really do work for their money.
  13. Sorry, I should have linked to this in the original post http://www.buzzfeed.com/scott/legos-overly...ive-signup-page Buzzfeed is the best site to waste time with...
  14. I think it's funny, but really inappropriate for a kids site
  15. Mycucumber, Mypassionfruit, & Mygrapefruit are not allowed because... If I were a parent (wait, I am! ) I would be angry that my kid was exposed to these words, and would have to ask daddy, "What's 'rape'?" Nice one, Lego webpage design team <edit> taken from here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/scott/legos-overly...ive-signup-page Scroll down through the comments to see some of the stuff the Lego site lets through
  16. It's a Jedi Sorry to ruin the narrative for you. Anyway, I'm really surprised at the poll results. This is not a set that people agree on, it seems.
  17. Glad you liked it. My implication was a little different, "we sent him to a farm," is what American parents often tell kids when their dog dies. I figured Obi Wan was about to whack Jar Jar out in the woods But a laugh is a laugh is a laugh, so I'm glad you liked it. Thanks to all the comments here. I was dubious about the interest of this set to anybody, so it's great anybody likes it!
  18. I haven't done a review in over a month! When going though the old sets to review, and a casual survey of the teachers on which sets are worth reviewing, this one came up. I was surprised, since out of all the original line of Star Wars, this is one of the ones that left little impression on me. For that reason, I decided to give it a second look. Set#: 7124 Name: Flash Speeder Theme: Star Wars Year: 2000 Pieces: 105 Minifigs: 1, Naboo Security Officer MSP: U.S.$10 Peeron Bricklink Brickset The booklets The cover is standard for the time. I love seeing the prequel characters in yellow, and like the way they used to have the set name on the front. Good times, good times. The back cover has the guard working on his ship, MacGyvering it into a helicopter and a little fly-pod. A not so random page. I didn't bother with inbuild shots, but I thought this part of the build was quite interesting. It's a small set, but the base of it is pure blocks. A nice, hearty building process, no empty spaces. The Pieces The pieces are a nice LEGO-green. There aren't really any fantastic parts, but those green curves are interesting and plentiful. There are three printed pieces. The console is particularly nice. I've never seen another like it. Now this is rare. In the whole Star Wars line, only a few standard smiley-face minifigs appeared, and this is one of them. The print is simple but decent. The Finished Product First, here's what it's supposed to be. Remember this from, like, 15 seconds of the Phantom Menace? I do, but I watched it too too many times. This is the speeder. It reminds me somewhat of the cars in Bounty Hunter Pursuit, in shape and size. It doesn't capture the ship from the movie all that well, but at that time, there just weren't the slopes they have now. But, it does capture the feel of a speeder, much like the Landspeeder. It uses little round caps to subtly keep it off the ground. The turret on the top swivels for blasting action! The jets on either side are positioned nicely off the ground, and snugly kept in place from above and below. A kind of Mickey Mouse shaped ship. The two seats fit just perfectly, and the sides are low enough to let the minifigs arms hang over. And he has a little trunk in the back to keep his viewmaster in. It's a bit bigger than a standard 2x4 brick. "Yeah, baby, let's go." He looks pretty menacing behind the controls. The Final Verdict Design: 6/10 It's not bad at all, it actually has a nice shape. Comparing it to the Bounty Hunter Pursuit ships of two years later, this design is a little over-simplified though. On the whole, it's nondescript. Build: 6/10 Simple. The main thing I liked here was the solidity of it. It's almost all bricks, and it does feel good to snap it all together. Playability: 7/10 It's a nice ship, with a figure, and a few play features (trunk, turret). Minifigures: 6/10 If I already had 20 Anakins, I'd love this, but this is hardly an in demand figure. It would have made sense if it came with an Amidala minifig or something. Price: 8/10 This was a decent price for what you got. Overall: 7/10 That's a rating for the set on its own. It's alright. As a Star Wars set, probably a 6. It's an average interpretation of a relatively unknown ship. I'm glad I reviewed this. It was interesting to see this again after 10 years. As I was building it, I quite enjoyed it, but then again, giving it the once over, it's somewhat lame. I don't know. I'm undecided. But I'm glad I have it. Nice for the collection, but non-essential. Obi-Wan finally reaches his breaking point and tells Jar Jar a story in order to put him out of his misery...
  19. It was alright. The title gave the concept away pretty quickly though, and the "forget" button was kind of silly. It's a watchable show, but not exceptional.
  20. Yeah, I recognized him in the 'Coming up this season.'
  21. Episode 11, Happily Ever After, was possibly better than the Richard Alpert episode. It was so messed up, and had no sideways flash! Desmond was actually traveling. Again, so much stuff happened, it's hard to process it all. That's what TV recaps are for!
  22. Really beautiful You get a lot out of intricacy. The series of arches and the headlight panels are particularly nice. There is a lot of beautiful Arabic architecture, and it's great to see it coming to life with all TLG's new pieces.
  23. Please put me in! I need to restore my honor after my flame out in the ISM. Please. Plus, I speak Japanese and have been to Tokyo lots and California too!
  24. Not at all. I was kind of pissed off at all the others who blindly ganged up on me though. You sent me a message asking me to show my evidence against you to you, which an innocent person would never have done. You survived six days as a deserter, nothing bad about that. Interesting point about checking the bag though. I don't exactly know how 'real' game rules are, but I figured you had an empty bag. When you first said that, and offered to show yours first, that was when you became the prime suspect in my mind (and I think I stated something implying that around the time you posted your offer), though I didn't use the term 'prime suspect' since that would have put a target on my back. Classically, the one who says "I'm innocent, search me." is totally guilty. What was the point in the positions though? The Provosts kept saying they didn't know anything special, which makes me wonder if the roles were just for the sake of it. In that case, I would have made all players privates, and have the higher ranks be N.P.C.s.
  25. I knew Provost Mason Dalese was a deserter! Everything he did rang false. And he helped destroy me. Well-played, sir I suspected Sgt. Hemphill too, but only because he was the only one not to jump on the bandwagon when everybody formed a mob against me. He played the odds well on that, since he would look better when I was revealed honored. I have to say, thanks Imperial Shadows, I had fun, and to the players who convicted me (and weren't deserters), shame on you! You got played!
