  1. Thanks Alfadas, I want them now too! You did well, the longship is easily the most iconic of the Lego sets! I missed it when they were in shops, but I wound up buying the hull, mast and sail from Bricklink years later, and making a MOC version instead. I also love the idea of a smaller set with a cave hideout! I don't know why exactly the idea appeals to me, but it does! It could be called "Raiders' Fjord" or something! Thank you, and yes he's intended to be a berserker! Most of his war paint is meaningless, but the mark on his left pectoral is the rune "ur", which can be interpreted as "strength" if you go in for that sort of thing. And his pendant is the rune for Tyr, the god of combat and justice (where as the two men wearing tunics both sport Thor's hammer pendants). I was thinking of updating the berserker with more runic paint marks if you think it's worth it? I also love the torc idea, would you envisage it as a new piece, or would trying to incorporate it into the torso printing be another option? Thank you, and that's an excellent question! Tell her she can decide which figures are related to which others! The more I think about the idea of a new (and historically accurate!) Viking range, the more I wish it was actually going to happen! Alfadas, this is your thread and I don't want to hijack it, but have you thought about a community build idea? Imagining the various price-points and piece-counts that TLG would use, and then working out what buildings/vehicles/figures/accessories would be in which sets, and then have contributors tasked with designing and making specific sets? Or some sort of competition/voting perhaps? I don't know if anyone else would be interested in that kind of thing, but I certainly would! And thank you again to everyone for the kind words! If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to make some more figure designs. (But I might start a new thread in the Minifig Customisation forum if I do any more!)
  2. Gorgeous! I love it! I think when I was a child, my imagination made the little 383 set seem as grand as your MOC! http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=383-2
  3. Dream along by all means! Sorry, I meant flags but for some reason said banners! Although now that I think about it, a banner made of cloth or thin flexible plastic would be pretty cool. They used one for the trolls a while back: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=61747 That's a fantastic idea, Fives! Hey, I'd even be happy with a second fabric "cloak" that had a ragged edge and only came to shoulder-length, but a moulded plastic part would be sensational! Now you've made me terribly sad that these don't really exist!! I'm not too keen on basing the look on the Vikings TV show to be honest. I watch the show because it's a fun show, but it's pretty historically inaccurate in lots of ways. The Norse were cleaner and better groomed than contemporary Europeans. They spent long winters indoors and made colourful and intricately decorated clothing. The typical image of their clothes being all dirty browns and having coarse visible stitching is just totally off! Cool idea! And given how frequently blacksmiths show up in the normal Lego Castle themes, I think your idea is completely reasonable! So, like Fives, I felt invigorated by this thread and wanted to try a quick mock up of some character designs! They're a little rough in spots, but they illustrate they type of thing I'd really like to see. And BTW I based the helmet off the Brickforge one, because it's cool and historically accurate. I just trimmed the nose section down a little so you can see more of the minifig's face. Anyway, here's what I came up with:
  4. I would love the Vikings to return! They're (rather ironically) the sets that drew me out of my Dark Ages!! As much as the stereotypical horned helmets seems to be a necessary trope to get an audience to see the characters as Vikings, I would simply adore a historically accurate range! Particularly if it featured some more civillian-themed sets (but then I feel the same way about the normal castle setting too). Longhouses, small farmsteads, boats, fishermen, men wearing tunics, women with hangerock aprons and beads/broaches, maybe some newly moulded fur-lined hats, with spangenhelms and spectacle helms for the warriors... ah it'd be marvellous! I'd easily buy multiples of every set. But it'd never happen that way, not enough action to interest the younger demographics (apparently). I think the absolute best that could be hoped for would be a variation on the traditional castle theme: Two rival Norse clans battling it out in differing colour schemes. Replace all the tree pieces and green baseplates with white versions to set the tone. Replace the traditional king minifig with a wealthy jarl, one for each faction. Some of the warriors in byrnies or hauberks, some in tunics. Throw in some helmetless, bare-chested berserker types for good measure! Longships, forts, longhouses, outposts, raiding parties, plenty of treasure and, I'm sure, flick-fire missiles! They'd probably have to use the horned helmets again, but they could mix in the more Norman-styled one: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3844 and if we're lucky something along the lines of BrickForge's spectacle helm perhaps: http://www.brickforg...ome.php?cat=252 As long as they avoided uniforms and kept the figures looking sufficiently different from each other (like they did in the initial Viking range), I'd be happy. I could see one faction sporting a lot of dark red and having a black raven banner, the other dark blue and a white wolf banner. Or something along those lines. Ah, we can dream, can't we?
  5. Hooray! And welcome to the forum! Seeing it all come together like this makes me feel like a proud uncle!
  6. Critically wounded in Afghanistan, held captive in a cave by the Ten Rings terrorist group, Tony Stark is forced to build one of his Jericho missiles. Instead, he builds the first version of his Iron Man suit, the Mark I. I had wanted to make a Lego version of the MK I for quite a while. I've seen others do it by adding various extra 1x1 plates, or cheese slopes for feet. While this does make sense (the MK I is certainly a lot bulkier than his later suits), I felt it never quite looked right. So I thought to myself, "how would Lego do it?", well they'd simply print everything onto a standard fig and just ignore any differences in scale! As the MK I is a hodgepodge of scavenged parts, it's actually several different colours. I decided to go for a dark tan torso (to represent the thick welders' clothes he wears under the armour), sand green hips, brown hands and dark bluish-grey legs, arms and head. I was also toying with making the welders' jacket in dark orange? I also wanted to give the armour patches of light rust, and a few dents just to capture that "rough around the edges" look in the film, but hopefully balanced against the clean look of the Lego aesthetic. Anyway, here it is: *cue the Black Sabbath track* And the back: I also did a new face for Tony, determined and stubbly during his imprisonment: Also for good measure, Obadiah Stane: As always, any feedback or suggestions are most welcome!
  7. They all look great, especially Captain Britain! I always liked this version of his costume, but the mask would be quite tricky to reproduce!
  8. Fantastic! I love the grid markings on the floor, the robot arm (you should make another one for the other side! ), the cars, the computer desk... all great stuff. I was thinking of making a much smaller version of just the armour booths, but you've made me wonder if I should attempt the whole garage/lab... Man, I wish Lego would make some sets from the earlier films like this. Also because I'd buy everything single thing to do with Thor!
  9. Aaaahhhh, so it turns out that Loki was really the one behind the creation of Wolverine!! I love the use of the X-ray tile, that's absolutely perfect! The F1 car could stand to be bigger though, an 8-wide perhaps?
  10. Ah, I love these guys even more than the Black Falcons you did! I'm very pleased at how the stitched vest came out, I haven't had the chance to print that one up myself yet. Love your choice of faces, hoods, etc. They look so... disreputable! My only suggestion here is to include myself in the picture...
  11. You're more than welcome! And thank you for posting your figs, now I feel like a proud... uncle? I love the choices of heads you've made, and the fort in the background looks great too! My only question: why are they wearing white trousers?
  12. I love it! The vest looks fantastic, I can't wait to see the finished product!!
  13. Wow, they all look great! I especially like Scorpion, he looks very sinister!
  14. That sounds about right for a government job, doesn't it?
  15. Hey guys, I got your PMs. It sounds like an interesting project, I'd be happy to chip in. I'm not familiar with Github though, I'd need to register... then what? Join the group and start uploading SVG files?
  16. LOL Thank you! Tony Stark isn't Tony Stark unless he's soused! Thanks everyone! I might have to Photoshop the face into a photo until I can make a real figure! I'd love to see the painted helmet! I've also updated the original post to include a few more variants of the suit, including two for Iron Patriot. I could do a recolour if you'd like, but the War Machine suit from Iron Man 2 is really very different from the look of the MK VI. I am actually working on some images for it, but I'm not 100% happy with it yet. But rest assured that I'll post it when it's finished!
  17. It's so delightfully zany! I was only vaguely interested in the MF series, but they're really starting to grow on me. Many thanks for the review, I think I'll have to get this set now!
  18. So I made a straight up repro of TLG's MK VI Iron Man suit. (That's the one with the triangular arc reactor.) Why? Why not! I also made a version of his helmet to sick onto a regular head. I'm not a huge fan of the official helmet, and I based the rough look of the mask on Christo's Iron Man. One of the suits of armour Stark wore in the comics was a dark blue/black "stealth suit". It also bore a triangular reactor, so a simple recolour was in order! I also have some vague recollection of some kind of green suit? I'm not sure if anyone can shed any light on that. It might have been concocted for one of the '90s toy lines as an "acid resistant" suit or something. Or maybe it could be a suit worn by the Mandarin? I really don't know but I thought it looked kind of intriguing nonetheless. Plus, as a little bonus, a drunk Tony Stark! I couldn't quite decide whether the drool was too over the top, so I wound up making a few subtle variations: Thanks for looking! As always, any feedback or ideas for alternate colour schemes are most welcome! EDIT: I've done another couple of recolours, a slightly different version of the Stealth armour: ...and some sort Arctic suit? I also can't believe I didn't think of a version of Iron Patriot! Thanks to Emperor Krulos and Sam892 for the suggestions! I did one based on the comics: ...and another version based on
  19. Of course not, go wild! That's why I share them! I'd love to see a pic when you're done. The red briefcases are a little rare, but the sticker should also look fine on a light blue-grey case. I've since switched his torso for this piece, which I think also looks very nice.
  20. Great work, I'm glad my decals were a help to you! I love the trenchcoats you've made, do you have a template or anything that you used? I've actually used the same head for my Coulson figure, I think it's a perfect match.
  21. Haha, good work! I'm glad you liked the decals, and I love the way you've captured his "come at me bro" stance!
  22. You're right, I'm sorry I did kind of gloss over that a bit! The trick is to combine two shapes into one using a tool called Pathfinder. Open the tool "Window > Pathfinder" (or Shift+Ctrl+F9). I've just drawn a couple of random shapes here to demonstrate, one on top of the other: Select both objects, then Alt+click on the second Pathfinder tool: This will subtract the front shape from the back shape like so: You can use the tool to cut the centre shape of the buckle, just like cutting the hole out of doughnut. Just make sure the shape to be subtracted is in front of the other. Select and use "Object > Arrange > Bring to Front" ( Shift+Ctrl+] ) if needed. And that's it! There are other pathfinder tools to add shapes, use only the intersecting parts, divide them, and various other options you can experiment with. I tend to use the add and subtract ones the most. Additionally clicking without holding the alt key will produce slightly different (less clean) results. Hope that helps!
  23. Very nice indeed!! I think that the degree of plastic removed in "A" definitely creates the receding hairline look better than "B". A question though, would it be possible to thin down the middle? It looks just a tad too bulbous. I think if it were thinned slightly (and then buffed like the second) it would look perfect!
  24. Awesome! I'll have to get quite a few of these! Wait, have Brickforge resumed shipping to Australia yet?
  25. Most certainly, just PM me with the details if you'd like to discuss it!
