Note that this ship uses custom cannons as well. Unfortunately we can't take a good look at them. On this photo we can also see the captain - where's this torso from? It looks very nice.

Every storey should be removable, so on the top of each wall under the next floor should be mostly tiles and just some studs to prevent the house from falling apart. And each storey should be a module, a construction that can be removed from the building and exist on its own.

Yes, the second mast is in the middle of the hull which looks kind of weird. I'd also do something with the string that hangs loosely in the stern part.

I didn't know Eurobricks can be infectious...
-
That's because bley resembles metal rather than any rock I know... So it's good for spaceships and this kind of stuff.
-
I gave it a 2 - still think the hull and masts can be salvaged for MOCs, as well as the accesories you mentioned and some other parts I'd probably use if I had the set. Still a set should be a good model on its own, not only a part pack. If it were called "Pirate part pack" perhaps I'd give it a 3 :D

True, but not entirely. In that case 12 + 20 = 32 votes equaled 100%, so: 32/100 = 12/x 32x = 1200 x = 37.5 So Pirates had 37.5% votes. Right now it's 12 to 21 so 33 votes equal 100% and: 33/100 = 12/x 33x = 1200 x = 36.36 (%)

To be honest, while starting this topic I expected Castle to win. It just has more fans because it lasted longer and had more sets, more subthemes... And that's OK with me, however that of course doesn't mean this line is better. It's our club, Pirate club, that is exclusive and only for the chosen ones. ;)

How about an animated movie made using Lego? Like in some commercials where we've seen animated Lego, or in a few music videos I've seen.
-
I agree. It would harm the Pirate line just like Star Wars harmed Space.
-
That's nothing new. When I was very young I had a policeman in my Town collection who was a descendant of Governor Broadside. And some time later I built a starship from the future which travelled to the past and met Governor Broadside and the ship's captain also found out he was Broadside's descendant.

I recommend the Divers line because they have so many cool sea animals - octopuses, rays, different species of sharks, and you can also use the algae, BURPS and finally the pirate accesories that some of them have - treasure chests, barrels, sabres. Of course you'd have to think what to do with all those modern-looking elements.
-
I don't think a mermaid would stand on the straight tail just like in the Harry Potter set, however I can imagine her sitting on it on the bottom of the sea or even on the shore.
-
Some ninja torsos and faces also work well in Pirate theme. In fact I remember this computer game called "Skull and Crossbones" where pirates fought ninjas so why not do the same in Lego world...

In this thread Sting mentioned about the existence of several Piratey sets. I agree that there are a few sets that have elements especially fitting for Pirate MOCs. Apart from the set discussed in that thread (6493) which has really nice parts to build a ship, there are a few others. For example if you want to build a ship similar to the one from the Imperial Trading Post, you might want to get the Sea Serpent from the Castle line or the Emperor's Ship from Orient Expedition - they have those very cool 6-stud wide hull pieces, great for smaller ships. I also recommend buying Jungle River - it gives you a grey boat you can't get in Pirate sets plus some parts useful in the Islanders subtheme. And the brown chest and chain can also be useful. The hull piece I'd really like to have is the 10-stud wide one from Adventurers' River Expedition's ship - would be great for a custom Pirate vessel.
-
Speaking of 6493's parts that can be useful for Pirate collectors I must say I like Timmy's head: It fits well for a young unexperienced member of the crew, who is always ordered to do jobs like cleaning the deck and so on :D
-
Now here are two MOCs made by Richie Dulin that are using 6493's hull: LINK 1 LINK 2 As you can see they both have custom-made middle sections with gray inverted slopes.

The Time Cruisers would've been great if the concept of the line was different. They should appear as disguised time travellers, for instance the ship in question should look just like a normal ship from the outside, no silly wings, propellers etc, but with computers and stuff like this hidden inside, not visible to strangers, so that noone would know they are actually from another time.
-
All of them look great but I prefer the bluecoats myself, the reason is purely nostalgic - they were the first, my adventure with Pirates started with them (and Red Beard's crew, of course), the Carribean Clipper was my first big Lego set. When I learned about the reds replacing the blues I wasn't happy but of course the reds are great too, however IMO only the bluecoats are truely classic...
-
I just remembered I have a few gray barrels myself, however it's this kind of barrels, or should I rather say containers or rubbish bins: I don't think they would look good as parts of a cannon.
-
Thanks anyway! I also think it's good for parts but not as good a set on its own. I have one and when I got it it was already assembled by previous owner, and I just took a look at it, moved to see the wings and propellor work and cannibalised it for parts. Now the hull is waiting for better times to be used in a MOC.

I've PMed xwingyoda. What I like about the grey hull is that you can easily make it longer using custom middle sections built with grey inverted 45 degree slopes on both sides of the hull. They are much more popular than brown ones for brown hulls. White hull of the Armada Flagship and the black one of the Cross Bone Clipper have the same advantage. According to peeron there is this many of such bricks: Old Dark Gray - 257 in 52 sets Old Gray - 322 in 113 sets (the 6493's hull is in old dark gray but anyway...) Black - 1014 in 258 sets White - 515 in 168 sets Old Brown - 26 in 10 sets

Well, that's the fictional option, even one little mermaid would make it fictional, there are no intermediate alternatives. Then you could write a post and explain to what extent you would like it to be.
-
Perhaps you should do it, I think the result will be the same. The old thread will be deleted of course?

This subject appeared in the Castle or Pirates thread, where fantastic elements of the Castle line were considered an advantage. Then there appeared a topic about custom Lego mermaids that could be used in Pirate theme. Well, unlike Castle, where we had ghosts & dragons, or the new Vikings where we see various kinds of monsters, the classis Pirate theme was rather realistic. Yes, we had skeletons, but then they didn't necessarily have to be alive, may have just been treated as corpses. We've seen figures of Islanders' deities but no deities themselves. So what do you think - was it good that way or maybe Pirates (when re-released or in your own MOCs) would take benefit of having some fictional elements? How do you solve this problem in your MOCs?
