  1. Tarrian looks confused for a moment but then nods knowingly. "Ah, some other mercenary guild's scooped you up, eh? A shame, really. Well, I can certainly show you the documentation, should you ever change your mind and you feel like the Veterans would be more up your alley. Mind if I asked who you're working?" Tarrian hands Merei the registration form. Looking it over, while there are some similarities to Heroica's sheet, the Wolfclaw Veterans seem more aligned with the interests of the Pluravvian Empire, mostly working in their sphere of influence. The Veterans also seemed to have an interest in potential labour union sympathies in new guild members. MM Note: Just for clarification, are you trying to intimidate Flo, or persuade her, because I'm reading this as an intimidation check.
  2. Insight Check (DC: 2/3): (2,4,5,5) Three Successes Flo thinks on Merei's question for a moment before responding. "New Haast speeder? There might've been one around here... oh, yeah, I do remember that speeder pulling in a few nights ago. It pulled in with two young men who ordered strawberry milkshakes and got a little too into singing some of the songs by the jukebox. They left about an hour afterwards. Haven't seen the speeder since. Anything else I can get your group?" Merei has a feeling that Flo is omitting information based on how she switches the topic, although she also looks nervous, as if there's something about the topic of the speeder that worries her. Merei's pretty sure that joining another guild would break her vows with Heroica. Contracts for missions are lucrative, and competition is fierce for them. Merei recalls most mercenary guilds having a clause regarding being in one, and only one mercenary guild, to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest between members. If Merei would like to look over the paperwork, she still could to get an idea what the Wolfclaw Veterans looked for in new guild members.
  3. Flo turns her attention to Bers. "Well, if you'd like to I can take you to the back room to see the records we have. I should note that this camera was smashed about a week ago," Flo motions to the camera in her hands, "and the one we had set up prior was smashed about two weeks ago. We haven't had any kind of security camera records around here in two weeks." Flo grimaces, looking agitated. "Blasted kids."
  4. Flo roller skates over to Kirwin as they place the busted camera on the counter. Flo frowns at seeing the battered piece of equipment in front of her. "Oh dear. I am aware of the busted camera, and I thank you for bringing it in, but there's not much I can do about it right now. Some scrappy kids got a little rowdy and thought it'd be fun to break my property with a baseball bat. Bunch of hooligans..." Flo scowls as she takes the camera off of Kirwin. "Not much to do about it now, though, seeing as how the deed's already been done."
  5. Zaria nods, exhaling. "I imagine the canyons are. Perhaps I'm merely being on edge after that fight with the stowaway. It wouldn't hurt to make a note, anyways. Thank you." Zaria wasn't sure if what she'd seen was nothing of interest or not, but decided to sit on this information for the time being. "What's the layout of the train, like? I know the baggage car is over there, but what's in the other direction, if you don't mind me asking?"
  6. Concerned, Zaria looked out the window to see if she could get a better view of what was outside. "Is there any kind of industry or factories along the route? The light was quite large, like a searchlight, almost." Zaria recalls to the attendant, trying to deduce what she saw could possibly be.
  7. Culture Check (DC: 0/2): (1,3,5) One Success While Merei can't quite recall much on the Wolfclaw Veterans, she did remember in passing hearing about them as a mercenary guild with an established history dating back centuries. "Well, nothing truly interesting at this point in time. A lot of our contracts come in from Magni-Tech and Octan, mostly just escorting and recovering goods or investigating issues they have. A lot of corporate jobs, but with that comes a lot of corporate benefits. It didn't always use to be that way, or so I heard. The organization used to do smaller jobs, but with the way things are today, I figure it's best to be on the side where the money's at, yeah? Every now and again some Ytaaxi noble comes looking for a job, and those are the jobs people clamour to get a hold of, because it gets you in front of the big wigs on Hi-Pluvvon. Yup, you can go a lot of places with the Wolfclaw Veterans."
  8. Flo gets to work whipping up another milkshake as Tarrian gets up to speak to Merei. He grins, self-assured and confidently, holding his own milkshake in one hand as he speaks, his other hand gestures to accentuates his words. "Guess I'll also join you three, if you don't mind. It would be quite rude to speak across the diner, don't you think? The name's Tarrian Flashbolt, and I'm with the Wolfclaw Veterans. We're a mercenary guild with our main guild hall situated on Hi-Pluvvon, but I joined up at the Port Drandora chapter house a few years back. I'm taking some time out of my regular work to help JanineXoX get signed up and then get her ready for her first assignment. So, I guess while I'm here, could I interest you in joining up? We're a trusted name in the field of mercenary work!" Tarrian gestures with his hand, pointing at Merei, sipping at his milkshake through the straw. Flo places Merei's own milkshake on the bar.
  9. Zaria furrowed her brow in concern. "Excuse me, Bleoberis." Zaria waves down the attendant. "Is it normal for the sun to be out at this time? I noticed a flash of light reflecting off the window that seemed a little too bright to be the lighting in here." She points to where she saw the bright light reflect off the window.
  10. Zaria looks around the cabin, looking for some kind of indicator for the current time. OOC: Basically, is it normal for the sun to be out right now?
  11. "Sorry, hun, we don't serve any alcohol here. Considering the amount of preppy jock and grease monkey types we get around here it's for the best to keep everyone sober. I can pour you a root beer float, though. Or perhaps some ginger beer if you're looking for something a little spicy and bitter? It's imported from Hi-Pluvvon: it's supposed to be all the rage with the youth over there."
  12. Based on Kirwin's overview of the camera, they determine that the camera likely feeds back into a recording device in the diner somewhere, as there's nowhere for a holotape or input jack to be inserted. OOG: Just so to clarify for my own sake, karmajay, I've seen you use he/him and they/them when referring to Kirwin. Is there any particular set of pronouns you'd prefer me using for Kirwin as a character when describing the outcome of actions?
  13. Flo gets to work preparing Yissam♥'s milk shake, putting the concoction of chocolate syrup, milk, ice cream, and mint extract to a blender as it's whipped together. Placing a paper straw into a tall glass and leaving the leftovers in the metal cup used to create the drink, she places the mint and chocolate milkshake on the counter in front of Yissam♥. "First one's on the house for new customers. Anything after that's a credit for each drink. Is there anything else I can get for you three?" She looks to Merei and Bers. Culture Check (DC: 2/3): (2,3,3,6,6) Two Successes Yissam♥ remembers hearing of JanineXoX before. JanineXoX's popularity comes from her streaming her time in various high profile arcades and entering gaming tournaments. Starting shortly after Yissam♥ did, she made her first big break streaming games of the Royal Game of Ur, a game popular among Ytaaxi aristocracy, and rode that wave into streaming games of Chess and Liar's Dice. "Oh, no, go ahead! I'm certain this will give some of those drama streamers something to mill over and try and spill tea over." JanineXoX gives Yissam♥ a cute smile, raising her fingers in the peace sign as the picture is taken. "What brings you around these parts, Forty-Five?"
  14. "Sure thing, sweetie! We have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana, and recently we started selling chocolate and mint, if I can interest you in trying that." Looking around, Yissam♥ noticed both a door to the kitchen and a door to a washroom. Besides the sounds of a cook in the kitchen, there didn't seem to be anyone else present in terms of staff. As she looks around the valtar behind her snaps her fingers in recognition and moves to the bar. "No freaking way. Yissam♥? Akharif's forty-fifth most popular streamer? Fancy meeting you here. The name's JanineXoXBlaster to the fans. I'm, uh, coming up on you in Akharif's streaming views. Number forty-nine on the "most popular" analytics." JanineXoX holds out a hand to shake towards Yissam♥. The human that was sitting with her leans forward towards the table, crossing his arms. "Janine, come on, we're almost done with your registration form. We have, like, two more lines to fill out and then your in the guild." "Okay, just, like, give me a moment here, Tarrian. I didn't expect to run into someone as famous than me today, gosh." MM Note: I'm going to roll these as a Technology check, followed by an Engineering check, technology to determine if you can identify if the tracker or camera are in the trash, and Engineering to determine if you can find out if the speeder in front of you is camouflaged or not. Technology Check (DC: 1/3): (3,3,4,4,4) Three Successes Rummaging through the trash, Kirwin discovers an object which clearly looks like the camera that belongs to the diner. Looking it over, the camera has been dented and it's lens smashed, as if someone took a blunt object to it. Rummaging through the garbage further, Kirwin finds a heavy, block-like device the size of a toaster which looks like a tracking device. Bringing the car keys to the device, it seems to confirm that the device is the tracker, as it signifies that the speeder should be right in front of him. Engineering Check (DC: 1): (1,1,3,5) One Success Kirwin looks over the hover bike and begins examining it. After a thorough inspection, Kirwin's positive this is not a camouflaged Dragoon V4: he would've bumped into the larger shape of the speeder at some point, as camouflage tech cannot cause items to shrink in size, merely present an optical illusion of what's present. As Kirwin looks over the bike, he hears the three girls at the front of diner talking as they look in his direction. "Wait, he isn't-" "Touching that dude's bike? Absolutely." "Do you think he's going to attempt to steal it? That would be the opposite of poggers."
  15. "Perhaps I shall." Nondos nods, returning to his drink. "I suppose we shall have to wait and see."
  16. "Well, I'm glad someone around here appreciates my tales of daring and teeth-grinding, pulse pounding action! Listen, it takes a lot of years behind the controls of a gravipod to get where I am. Tell your brother that if he sticks at it, I'm certain he can be a racer. He might even race against me!" Nondos takes a swig from his bottle. "Beating me, however? That I'm going to doubt, gwaHA HA HA!" Nondos roars raucously, laughing to himself at his own joke. Nondos looks at Ronin, his eyes piercing through him. The menahi's grin grows, his sharp, pearly whites glistening in the light. Ronin could get a feeling that Nondos knew he wanted to avert away from the subject, and if he wanted to, could press him for further information. "Alright then, keep your secrets." Nondos shrugs and goes back to his drink, his grin shrinking but still present. "I won't force you into something you don't feel comfortable doing. I can respect wanting to be alone at the bar. There's been a few nights where I've had that feeling of wanting to be alone with my thoughts."
  17. "Right this way!" The waitress, whose name tag has "Flo" engraved into the metal, roller skates her way to the bar and stands behind it, wiping it down as the group takes their seats. "We've got shakes, floats, coffee, tea, sodas: if you name it we probably have it on tap. No alcohol, just as a heads up. If you're hungry I can get you a menu." Perception Check (DC: 1): (1,1,5) One Success The valtar seems less interested in the group as a whole and more interested in Yissam♥. "...I've seen her somewhere before..." "Hm? Oh, small galaxy, isn't it? We can discuss where you've seen her before after we've gotten your registration form filled out." The valtar continues to look at Yissam♥, her eyes squinting as she tries to put a name to the face, as the human sitting with her swipes through a holoreader on the table.
  18. Merei leads the group inside the diner while Kirwin stays outside, the jingling of a bell signifying their entrance. The music from outside continued as they entered, the source seemingly being a retro jukebox. Old guitars and records hang on the wall along with a few autographed portraits of celebrities from decades gone. The scent of sugary beverages and grilled food wafts through the restaurant. The comfortable looking baby blue booth seating was full up, with a blue haired human pilot talking to a pint-sized cricet on a booster seat in between bites of his sandwich. The other booth was occupied by a human in light armour talking to a valtar in stylish, colourful clothing. The valtar takes particular interest in the group as they enter. Approaching the group is a human woman wearing roller skates, the clattering of the wheels echoing through the diner as she stops in front of them. "Hey! Welcome to the Red Comet. We're currently full up on booth seating, but if you want to take a seat at the bar I'll get to your order in a moment."
  19. Moving to the right, Kirwin examines the speeder parked to the right of the building. The parked speeder looks old, the original sleek design having been modified with a newer, bulkier engine and heavy duty brakes. It hovers off the ground yet stays stationary, locked in place. A bright red toolbox is strapped to the side. Leaned up against the building is a pile of metal crates. Checking the device on the key ring, the tracker is incredibly close by. Perception Check (DC: 2): (3,4,6) Two Successes Looking around the premises, Yissam♥ notices what does look like a spot where a security camera should be set up on the roof, looking out onto the parking lot. However, it does not seem to be there, the wires connecting it to the building exposed to the elements.
  20. "Alright, cool, if you four are ready to head out, I'll leave the investigation in your hands. Let's hope you can turn up that speeder!" Antony waves goodbye to the group as he makes his way into the crowd, leaving the heroes to make their way towards the Red Comet diner. Stepping out of the terminal and onto the busy sidewalk, the group waits for a bus to come and pick them up, watching the colourful speeders buzz around them in traffic. The large, bulky bus eventually arrives allowing the heroes to step into the packed vehicle. Taking their seats, the heroes venture further into Cosmopoli, the city skyline never seeming to shrink or diminish. --- After thirty minutes of waiting, the group steps off the bus and onto the sidewalk, looking at their destination. The Red Comet was a single story, raised diner that looked like it was ripped out of a different time. Perched on top of a large industrial building, the dirt covered roof was occupied by a few space speeders levitating off the ground. The inside was brightly lit enough that one could see that it was busy, with most of the front booths being taken up entirely by customers. A small group of teenage girls loiter around the front, chatting among themselves, turning their attention towards the adventurers briefly before turning back to their discussion. Off to the right, a hover bike levitates next to a pile of metal reusable crates, likely filled with scrap and trash. Adding to the sounds of the city surrounding the parking lot, golden oldies music blares from a speaker hooked up under a neon sign displaying "OPEN: 24 HOURS". What would the heroes like to do?
  21. Thorvald shrugged. "Fair enough. Let me know when you need more and I'll put a kettle of the stuff on." "I'll say." Nondos raises a finger before pointing it towards Ronin. "What about you? What kind of work did you do before joining this fine guild? Got any interesting stories?"
  22. Performance Check (DC:3): (4,5,6,6 +1 success for the AV Rig) Five Successes Yissam♥ puts on enough of a scene that people begin to take notice of the group. Antony notices. "Alright, alright, I'll get you each a sausage on a bun! If that's what it takes to get you four to help me, fine." Antony fishes around in his pant pockets for his wallet, and after a short exchange with the vendor, produces five sausages, each in their own bun. Antony takes one for himself. "Might as well have one myself, I guess." He hands the remaining four to Yissam♥.
  23. Zaria leans back as she watches Soren leave the car, quickly turning her attention to the dwarf. If he stood up to make a run for it, she'd know.
  24. Looking over the device, besides the button which activates the speeder's horn, it does have a second button. "That second button is the speeder's tracker. It might take a few moments, but it should tell you where the speeder is in Cosmopoli. If the speeder's moved you should be able to follow the thieves with the built in locator device."
  25. "Eh? Neither of you follow the gravipod racing scene? Well, I guess I have a fresh audience! The Calliope Cup: the race held on Tehanulan every year. That was the time, a few years back, I managed to "thread the needle". Part of the course takes one through the rocky atolls of the Calliope Keys. There's a rock formation known as the Needle, since it, well, looks like a great stone needle sticking out of the sea. So, there I was, racing through the atolls, taking a tight turn, when to my shock a number of gravipods ahead of me had crashed. The horror, I though, surely I would be joining them next, but then I remembered that I was not merely some racer, I was Nondos Aghonzath, famous throughout the Arm for my daring feats of skill behind the wheel! I steeled myself, positioned my gravipod just right, and sailed through the air as I propelled myself off one of the crashed gravipods as I used it as a ramp! Then it came into sight: the Needle. I feared for the worst as it approached, and then I realized something as the adrenaline wore off and I was back onto the course: I had threaded the Needle! Now, I didn't come in first, mind you, but I did make the headlines for doing what so few have done! The news said I was going places." Nondos nods, fondly smiling as he takes another swig from his liquor bottle, his sharp pearly whites gleaming in the light of the hall. "I mean, I could." Thorvald takes the cup from Enson, places it in a microwave, and presses a series of buttons which turns on the microwave. After a few moments, Thorvald returns to Enson his cup. "Let me know when you want a freshly brewed pot."
