Does. not. compute. First, the architecture line isn't in minifig scale, and second, a lot of the builds are so far on the microscale side of things that the overall aim is to get the general shape of the building right. Architectural details on the level talked about here usually get lost completely.

We had Pizza on the second day of Christmas. Luckily, none of us are into all that traditional stuff. Nice building, I like the straightforward design :)

Nice small modular :) Works well with the other modulars aswell - after all, you often find houses with differing heights next to each other (which should be no excuse for Lego to make the modulars smaller and smaller, though )

I decided that I'll put off buying the DO until the next Double VIP Points special. Then I'll get two sets and build expanded, stand-alone versions of the two buildings. For now, I'll focus on aquiring the pieces for a MOC I planned in LDD and building it - a 3500 piece corner modular in about the same scale as Green Grocer

Looking at that review, I again wonder if they couldn't have made it a bit bigger while not increasing the piece count too much by just using bigger bricks. Just look at it, the blue building seems to be built entirely out of 1x2s and 1x4s, even in places where much bigger bricks could've been used easily. The older modulars made extensive use of 1x6 and 1x8s (or even longer one wide bricks) to get the plain walls out of the way, in the DO, the largest we get apparently are a couple 1x6 in the brown building.

Brilliant design. It's rare to see a creation on such a scale. Incredible that you designed this in just a couple of weeks, and built it even faster.

List your favourite modulars in order of preference, and explain why?

GG - lots of fun to build, and a majestic building FB - my first modular, and first Lego set I bought after almost 20 years PR - lots of details, and another beatifully designed building. CC - Great outside, empty inside. Changed the latter by at least furnishing the ground floor. PS - nothing much to say, nice build(ing) PC - while I think it has a lot of room for improvement, my opinion of it isn't nearly as negative as that of others GG - boring build, and though I've grown accustomed to it, I still think it also looks a bit boring (TH) - have to put it in brackets. Though I do own it, it still sits MISB as I have found no desire to build it. Just looks way too boxy and plain to me and somehow doesn't seem to work as a whole. (MS) - don't own it, and I have no desire to ever change that. If this was a MOC posted on here, I wpouldn't bother commenting for lack of something positive to say... -
Me too I'll expand my Detective's Office aswell, soon as I get it. I'll also turn them into separate buildings
-
already got them all...

A local store has 31026 bycicle shop & café for 60€. I'm wondering if I should grab a copy (or rather two?) to use as a starting point for a modular MOC. 1000 pieces for 60€ sounds like an excellent deal, and I've seen some nice things done with it. What do you think?

Well, they could easily throw in a bank robbery storyline there. -
Incorrect number of VIP points from a purchase
Roger_Smith replied to talos's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Did you redeem some VIP points wth the purchase? They first subtract the redeemed amount, then calculate the number of VIP points you get for the purchase from the remaining total.- 2 replies

Impressive. Has a nice european/prussian turn of the century feel to it, like it very much.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Roger_Smith replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
No. Grand Emporium was a lot more boring to build. Tons of repetition throughout the build and almost no interesting build techniques. It basically has two identical, almost empty floors. PC offers a bit more in that regard, though none of the techniques used are as imaginative as some parts of other modulars (except GE). -

1: NEVER had any problems there, and I just tried to make them fall apart by opening/closing them repeatedly. Only thing I managed was to pull one of them off the hinge. But if you put them together right, the doors themselves should be alright. 2: Yep it blows... don't build it, or mod it (someone posted nice 5 + 6-wide mods on here, check them out) 3: Fully agreed. However, it works when it's used solely as a display piece where it's seen from the front only. 4, 5, 6 & 7: Agreed, 100%. Doesn't matter too much to me, though, as my copy is on display 99.9% of the time. 8: Never had any problems. 9: Agreed. 10: Fixed that on mine and put in gold lattice. Looks very nice and was literally just a € or two from online PAB. So whenever you order from there, just throw some in. -
There's another one under the fan in the detective's office, I think. So we get them in white and dark bley.

If I recall correctly. PR got a very positive response upon reveal. Much more so than DO. The overall reaction was very positive, with a few (but loud/repeated) critics thrown in.

It's the one thing I hope they never change about the modular line. I like the quirkiness of the fact that one of the most evolved and mature lines Lego has uses the simple old smilie face. And of course nostalgia plays a big role in it, too.

Sold. The many different colors don't look as bad as I feared, and as expected, there's a ton of details inside. I obviously could do without the unnecessary play features involving the cookie barrel, but as I'm still planning to mod two of these into bigger buildings, that's not too much of a bother. Twisting prohibition to be about candy is an imaginative way to adhere to the 'no alcohol in in modern day sets'-rule. 150€ is the same price as pretty much all the other modulars except for PC and MS, which were cheaper, and TH, so no complaint there.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Either that or a 16 x 32 baseplate plus a 8 x 32 baseplate (I have one in green from an old Octan gas station). Haven't rteally put that much thought into it, 24 just seems like a logical number. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Roger_Smith replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
She did, but the bat hanging upside down was actually in Fire Brigade's bell tower. After seeing the higher resolution pics of the interior, I'm definately getting two sets to mod them into bigger buildings. I'm thinking 16 wide detective's office with separate staircase and two upper floors, and maybe a 24 wide barber with a wall between barber and stairs and an actual appartement upstairs. -

I've been wondering about that aswell. Even with the pic of the backside it's hard to make out what's really going on there. Lack of stairs would be a big disappointment. Wondering what the pics on the back witrh the arrows indicate. The lower one seems to indicate a way for the crook to enter the detective's office, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the upper one signifies. The barber has to hoist customers up to the balcony/help them down for visits to the detective's office? I'm really starting to think that this will be the first modular that I'll mod quite a bit, possibly even buying two copies to make bigger versions incl. stairwells... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Roger_Smith replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
My overall first impression is good and I'll definately get this. But I have some mixed feelings aswell: pro: - three fully sized floors in the right building - the balconies on the front provide a nice change in pattern for the facade - nice part usage throughout - a new kind of brickbuilt sign for the pool hall - covered alleyway - looks like the portion above the alley is kept in another color, maybe suggesting that that part was added later on con: - the buildings look way too american for my taste. Might have to mod the Detective's office to feature a mansard roof to soften that effect. - stickers (on the windows) - dark orange, light yellow, brown, reddish brown, 4 different shades of blue, light & dark grey are all featured more or less prominently on the front... that's very colorful. This is something that's also been bugging me with the bike shop (31026). - the tree in the front is even more of a joke than the one in FB. It will be a nice addition to modular street, but for me, it doesn't have the 'WOW!'-effect that the first pics of PR had on me (which was the first one that came out after I got into modulars). Still looking forward to more pics - it has ~230 pieces more than Pet Shop, but they saved a lot of bricks by just having one separating wall and no third floor on the DA - thus I expect a lot of nice details throughout -

Let's just wait and see. If I recall correctly, there's an announcement on Nov 21 that's supposedly about the next modular. -
