  1. I'm still going to buy this, even though I have no interest in the movie. In my LEGO world narrative, this is not a reboot, just a group of gals who take on the mantle of the original. "I've seen great sets based on of IPs that suck and terrible sets I'd never want based on IPs that I love." I will place Speed Racer firmly on the former of that statement. The cars were fantastic, but the movie was a technicolor dumpster fire.
  2. Yummy, this looks fantastic. Quite an upgrade over the previous outing! $119.99 USD?
  3. The drivers are BBB (non-LEGO drivers); I've thought of upgrading the rods, but I kinda like the Technic beam rods as they are. This is not my design, but rather that of Tony Sava (Sava Railroad Works on Bricklink). This model could definitely be updated to a 4460. I've thought about even redoing the livery in the Freedom Train colors.
  4. This is a sick build! I love it.
  5. This looks like a simple build to adapt on your own. I'd ask permission from the creator before you do, tho.
  6. I kind of thought the movie was a bit of a drag, unfortunately - I think the "old Hollywood" references were a little over most kids' heads, and the pacing was off. My kids were pretty bored by it. The handful of action sequences were a lot of fun, but everything inbetween sure seemed slow.
  7. I've posted this elsewhere on social media, so apologies if it's been shown before. Here's me with my copy of Tony Sava's SP 4449, alongside the real locomotive in Portland, OR. Daylight, meet Daylight by Ritzcrackerman_22, on Flickr The SP 4449 recently completed its federally mandated 15 year boiler inspection and remains in permanent display at the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation. Aside from Thomas the Tank Engine , the SP 4449 may be the most photographed locomotive in the world. She is arguably one of the most beautiful locomotives ever built, and kept that way by the all-volunteer Friends of SP 4449. Many thanks to Mr. Sava for making these instructions available - and as you can see for yourself, his rendition is nearly perfectly proportioned to the real-life locomotive. Next on the docket for me will be to complete some 8w coaches to go along with her.
  8. I wholeheartedly agree on the theme's potential. It's been interesting to see the transition from Monster Fighters to the Haunted House, then to the dedicated CMF series of monsters to Scooby-Doo. It's been a fun journey from a theme standpoint, and I've been excited to have them all kind of run one into another. It allows for tons of material to MOC with. I bet this isn't the last we've seen of the Scooby gang. On a related note, the Haunted Hollywood movie was *such* a drag... it didn't do the property any favors. It didn't help that Mindi Cohn was not voicing Velma (wtf!), but it was really stilted and the pacing was off. Kind of a wasted opportunity.
  9. Are you planning to post the LDD file? I wouldn't mind playing with it myself.
  10. Damn, son! Love this!!
  11. Same here! :) PM me if you would be willing to help me get this series as well.
  12. It would be a shame if it was a one-off release, but at least we got all the main characters, and there are plenty of other recent themes (Monster Fighters, CMF monster series) to fill out your MOCs. I really liked the theme, and am sad to see it a one-and-done. :(
  13. How's this project going? :) Have you exceed 20,000 parts??
  14. I'm of the opinion that every character needs to have a story and a reason for being there. It can be hard to keep track of, but that's part of the fun and the commitment to detail. In addition to characters featuring different walks of life - try to create some type of backstory that justifies them being there. Once you really immerse yourself into the scene - it's not just you populating it with static figures. Try also to focus on interactions, what your characters may be doing with one another.

There's a basic model in there. You can also Google Miniland USA and reverse engineer some of the stuff you see at Legoland parks. They're not super-complicated, but I'm a big fan of them - it's hard to capture in that scale, something recognizable. Check out my Flickr stream for a few I put together for a project - I'm planning a repeat shortly to get another 30... these are all in-brick now, btw: https://flic.kr/s/aHskbaW27e
  16. Thank you all for the nice comments. I'm currently working on version 2.0, and I'll post more as I go.
  17. Well, how about *apocalyptically rainy* winters? We had record rainfall in December - more than 14"... Thank you! I thought it turned out nicely. Here's an early WIP shot that might better illustrate: More progress shots. I'm acquiring pieces right now, less building. ;) by Ritzcrackerman_22, on Flickr Basically, it's framed on either side by brick walls to form a trough; then I laid 2x2 tiles down on the bottom, and set the slopes on their edges and nudged them into place. Every 40-48 studs or so, I locked in that section with a cross-bar of 1x10 plate and reinforced bricks to apply enough pressure to hold in that section, then started the pattern again from there.
  18. Hi everyone, This is the first MOC I've posted to Eurobricks - I hope you enjoy. I have wanted to build a beach for some time, and I decided on it for my MOC for the Bricks Cascade convention (Portland, Oregon - USA) this past February. I got inspiration from my favorite beaches in the world - Copacabana, Ipanema, Waikiki, Huntington Beach, Miami Beach... I wanted to have something warm and sunny to think about during the cold Pacific NW winters. This is still a work in progress - but I felt it was convention-ready. Some details: 8x3 baseplates in size Uses 99.9% genuine LEGO parts* *I did use some pad-printed torsos from Citizen Brick (LEGO doesn't make enough swimsuit prints!) The promenade is modeled off of the real-life Copacabana walk in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It stretches the entire length of the beach, and is an 8-wide mosaic of 1x2 white cheese slopes + 1x1 black cheese slopes. Feedback and suggestions are welcome! I hope you enjoy. 19. *slow clap* Bravo sir. Very well done. Likenesses captured amazingly well at that scale.
  20. This is always one of my favorite EB contests. Congrats to everyone who entered, particularly to the winners.
  21. This would be far preferable to other recent lame city themes (Arctic, Volcano explorers - wtf??)
  22. I'm totally digging this. Is this something you're planning on posting for others to use when complete? I'm *not* one of those people who make a habit of hassling builders / designers for their instructions - but I would love to build this. James
  23. I'm a die-hard Germany national team fan, so I'm über-excited for this!!!!
  24. Love it! The lighthouse is a brilliant build in an of itself.
  25. Yeah - take that, complainers! The LEGO designers never stated "which" Ecto-1 would fit in the firehouse! :) Geez...
