The old forge of the Salzburg Castle
Tom_castlefan replied to metalandi's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
At first, I (stupidly) looked only at the first picture, without reading anything, and thought: "Does he really think anyone's going to think he built that?" I'm such a fool -
The torture chamber of Salzburg Castle

Sadistic lego figures.. hmmm Very detailed, and very nice! -
Fantasy Worlds, Places, and Themes
Tom_castlefan replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If I had enough funds, bricks and room, I would happily create a sprawling legoverse. For the time being however, I have to make do with setting up small scenes. I always run out of plates (green especially) from creating detailed scenery. -
http://brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6008-1 This was my first, and then when I slipped into my dark age, i thought it lost forever. However, I recently found all of the parts except the original head.

I'm enjoying these forums already - the people here are so friendly, and I like how rather than insulting others, everyone offers constructive criticism. It's a really mature environment, and I'm glad I bit the bullet, stopped lurking and became active here.

I actually toyed between saying use of tan or use of gold, and then I decided on tan. Bad call, huh? Anyway, still a good model

Castle, Skeleton Battlepack Review
Tom_castlefan replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't think these new skeletons do it for me, but thanks for a good review -
Man, I am so envious of some of these people

Review: Orc (Troll) Warrior #5618
Tom_castlefan replied to AmperZand's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree with this part in particular. Also could of done with a shield. Nice review - I personally don't think i'd use this set as an army builder. -
I don't think theres much of a difference. However, I do have to say that your paint skills are pro

Parts from other themes that go well with Castle
Tom_castlefan replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree with this, except for the spongebob part - having never brought any of those sets, I can't gvie an opinion on them. However, they do look useful... -
Troll Warship and Viking Longboat do battle
Tom_castlefan replied to Cardinal Brick's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
TBH, the troll ships RAWKS! Viking ship just doesn't compare -
I personally think this set is too bulky, and also don't think that it is a good army builder. Just my two cents. Review would of also been better with pictures, but it was good anyway Tom

I think it looks nice. I particularly like the staircases at the back, and also think the use of tan is well done. Also, the different levels add to the level of detail. Very nice overall. I think you should however use a camera as opposed to a webcam, to do the creation more justice. Tom

Thanks for this, I hadn't been on the lego site for ages Looks well presented and fun, obviously supposed to appeal to children, but good nonetheless

LEGO officially calls Troll warriors "Orcs"!
Tom_castlefan replied to astoriabluelegos's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
To me, they've always been orcs... just now, TLG have realized it makes sense too -
I'm very sorry to hear that, and I hope that everyone was alright. Glad you can see some good in it though... Tom

I first saw this on brickshelf... it is breath-takingly beautiful. Wish I had this sort of talent! Would love to see more - I also like the story you've included.

New castle sets... such news is always welcome. Looking forward to it already - i'll put some money away ready There was an article on classic-castle stating that the designers would not consider selling civilian based sets, as they would expect poor sales. However, the designer interviewed said something about a S@H idea... Link: http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/article...feedback07.html Tom EDIT - for the lazy among us: "Civilian / Medieval Sets Throughout all the testing we have done for Castle we have included several Civilian style sets for the kids to review with the rest of our proposals. Unfortunately when it comes to the ranking of products they always come at the bottom of the pile, even when we have tried to spice them up by including some sort of battle or attack scenario to the products, they just never rank very highly. Kids really prefer just to have a big Castle to protect and a load of Battle machines and vehicles. Also if we did a Civilian set at retail, it is more than likely that it would be the last one kids would pick on their collection list and they may never actually get that far. We can’t afford to have products sat on shelves that are very slow to perform as we have limited shelf space in the different stores. A box like that could take the place of a Star Wars or Exo Force item etc which could sell five times the volume very quickly. Generally if products aren’t seen to perform in the first month or two they can be very easily dropped from the assortment. This doesn’t mean that we will never do things like this again, we have done some fabulous stuff internally that I know you guys would love, we just need to figure out the best way of getting it out to you, that makes good business sense. I’m discussing things with shop@home / direct to see if we can find a solution there…. I can’t promise anything but I’m seeing what I can do, we just have to be so careful we don’t flood the market with too many Castle products. "

You know what? Lego Castle needs more sets for 2008!
Tom_castlefan replied to Dovchenko's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't think it needs more - after all, too much of a good thing is usually bad for you (or your wallet, at least) However, I hope they stick with the fantasy theme - very good in my opinion. I don't want it to just fizzle out like vikings, I would love to see it going strong for the years to come. -
I plan to buy 10 battlepacks, 10 of the knight impulse set, and then get 10 knight bodies off pick a brick. I will then use the helmets from the impulse set, plus the sword, and also take the shield from the glaive-wielders of the battle pack and will thus create 70 crown knights, plus the 5 I already own. Works out at about £100 (roughly) plus postage.

I completely agree with this. Would like to see more from you.

Is the new Castle line making old ones obsolete?
Tom_castlefan replied to concreteasflesh's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
In my legoverse, the crown knights are a relatively new group established by the king who leads the lion crusaders. Basicallym they are an expansion to the army, whilst being inferior to the lion knights, yet still used to support the kings forces. Therefore, I do not see the old factions becoming obsolete, but instead see the news ones as adding more flavor my existing storyline and collection. -
Personally, I consider black knights and dragon masters to be one and the same, and the same for the crusaders and Leo's knights. I would not have enough money to build separate armies for figures with the same or similar heraldry.
