Hi all I've been trying to find the small dinghy in LDD. The one I'm after is part number 4215567 which is the small City dinghy: I can't find even though I've found all the other small boats. I don't think it's there but can anyone else confirm? Many thanks Rog

REFERENCE Dusting Lego displays and layouts
rriggs replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'll second that one! I keep the dust away by keeping my parts in sealed boxes. Built models get air dusted every so often but I have also found that just keeping the door to my LEGO room closed reduces dust hugely too. Cheers Rog -
Very nice and instantly recognisable. Being picky now but the title is wrong - they were not called Defenders until after series 3 in the 1980s. Cheers Rog

It could be an ultra modern take on an aircraft tug (it does have the lugs on the front where the jib could be attached I guess) but I think it's much more likely a random space/futuristic type vehicle rather than something based on real life. I suspect that the designer just quite fancied using that blue cockpit on a ground-based vehicle.... Cheers Rog

I think it's a fair question and to call it futile is a bit strong. Difficult, challenging, fun, maybe even impossible depending on what elements he has or hasn't got available to him but to call someone's idea futile is just plain wrong. Cheers Rog

If you were to tweak your design into an SUV or crossover you could lose the plate below the windscreen with a higher bonnet and it wouln't be wrong to be be taller than the minifig. Cheers Rog

I spend most of my time on MS Flight Sim when I'm not cleaning my car (I'm OCD about my car...), or getting muddy walking or cycling in the countryside. Cheers Rog

That's why he said he would try and move the bricks with the stud up so the edge of the clock can attach to the stud... Cheers Rog

Buying a BSB and a QAR - can I convert one of these to Imperial vessel
rriggs replied to Rapscallion's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've done just the same with the QAR. A very easy conversion and the sales look great with the old red imperial flag. I also, of course, turned the skulls round, removed the skeletons and added a nice lady figurehead... I too can't see why you couldn't convert the BSB but the sails and stained glass give the QAR the edge for me out of the two. Cheers Rog -
Nice review - and well done for nabbing a tourist to use as a model! It's a shame that the scale has meant the clock faces sit so proud of the tower. For me that's enough to put me off from buying this set. I understand why they ended up at that scale with the tower 3-wide but someone at some point during design and development should have said that the standard 2x2 clock faces don't work. At that point they could have switched to stickers(!) or printed pieces. Even at this scale, simply switching to 2x2 square tiles printed or stickered would have pulled the clock faces in to the tower a bit. They could have moulded a 3x3x3 brick just for the purpose printed with intricate clock faces on four sides That would have been one for the collectors to seek out in years to come!! It's a shame. Anyway, I'm now looking forward to whoever it is that builds the rest of the Palace of Westminster at the same scale.... Cheers Rog

In or On is OK although I think that on sounds better. Mr Man - St Steven's tower was the old tower before the current Houses of Parliament was built. It was knocked down and the current clock tower built in it's place. The current tower is simply called the "Clock Tower". Either "I want to tell you how life is here." or "I want to tell you what life is like here." is fine. "Life is wonderful in Dover." sounds most natural. Although, having spent some time in DOver I can't ever imagine this being true... I would just say work - "Our house is near my work" or "Our house is near where I work" "I miss you so much" or "I miss you a lot" As mentioned by another poster, it does depend on whether you are talking about "London" generally or the specific area of London Which is called the "City of London". If London generally: My sister has a big apartment in London If the City of London: My sister has a big apartment in the City of London Apart from the specific are of the City of London, London is rarely described in normal conversation as a city. It's normally just referred to as "London" or the "London area". Geographically, it is referred to as Greater London although it is also almost never called this in conversation. Cheers Rog

Very nice and very realistic. The front lower dash panel in particular looks great. And great use of the old red windows. The proportions on them are just right! I gave away all of mine to my nephews a few years back due to lack of use... If only I'd thought of doing a Routemaster! I'm not sure that the front upper deck window looks right though. It's leaning back too much. The front of the top of a Routemaster is curvy above the windows and while the windows themselves do slope back slightly (maybe 5 degrees) I think your's is sloping far too much (at about 40 degrees?). My wife has just phoned me to tell me that she has won £200 Toy-R-Us vouchers in a competition and that they are all for me! Needless to say the whole is going to be blown on LEGO and I want to get a variety of sets but also feel like I'm getting something special. So far, my shopping list looks like this: - 4440 City Forest Police Station (because I have the rest of the Forest Police range) - 7287 City Police Boat (because I really want the hull) - 3936 Friends Emma's Design Studio (because I have no Friends sets and this one has the accessories I think I will be able to use easiest elsewhere) And EITHER: - 8129 AT-AT OR - 7965 Millenium Falcon In addition, Toys-R-Us are currently giving away either a blue brick box (4626) or pink brick box (4625) with purchases over £50 so I should be able to wangle one each of them too. I wouldn't have chosen to buy them normally but if they're free.... Overall not a bad haul but I do need help deciding between the two Star Wars sets - or would be interested if anyone has any better or different suggestions overall...?? Cheers Rog

V-LP-10D I've had a play about with it this afternoon and produced my own version using yellow instead of lime. I think it works really well and it much closer the colour in real life. I have also modified the rear end with a full tailgate and orange/yellow high viz markings. I just need to sort out a Traffic Officer and some cones.... FRONT: REAR: TAILGATE: Excuse the quality of the photos. My camera has died so I have used my phone instead... Cheers Rog

Your example photo doesn't show the colour properly. Under proper lighting the yellow is bright yellow exactly like Lego yellow. Only in poor light does it get the green hue to it. Google Highways Traffic officer images and you will see more that are yellow than off-yellow. I thought the light bar looked better in black Cheers Rog

I like the proportions and the overall feel but it should be yellow and black! I guess you're trying to replicate the high viz yellow by using green but I don't think it quite works. I like the light bar. Simple but effective. Cheers Rog

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
rriggs replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Series 7 is available in my local TRU in quite some quantity and is available through the LEGO website so I think it's fair to say that it's been released! Cheers Rog -
It's very nice and authentic. You can instantly tesll what it is too and I like the accessories. The tow hitch is insipred! However, you really need to find the macro function on your camera! Cheers Rog

Just what I was about to say!! This is one of the things most used by teenagers. This sentence is fine. "For which" wouldn't sound right. Maybe it is the best thing that has ever been invented OR It's maybe the best thing that's ever been invented OR It's probably the best thing that's ever been invented These of are all correct but the second are more natural sounding. However, maybe and probably aren't really interchangeable as the meaning is quite different. "Maybe" is not very likely to happen. "Probably" is very likely to happen. Cheers Rog

It looks good and is instantly recognisable however I have a couple of observations: 1. The section above the sticky out collar (excuse my lack of architectural terminology! ) is too tall in comparison to the rest of the structure. Below the collar you have roughly 8 rows of bricks and above you have roughly 4 or a proportion of 100/50 Below the collar in the photo it's more like a proportion of 100/15 2. The detailing on this top section to too fancy. Close up there is lots of details but at this scale it makes it look a bit too fussy. If you compare your model to the photo the top of the Arc in the photo actually looks square and flat. I can see what you are trying to achieve but it doesn't work in this scale. Cheers Rog

I'm not sure that it is a case of the City products being aimed at boys but more that the kind of City models which are likely to sell better are those which are more interesting/exciting. This means fire, police, trucks, cars, aircraft, etc which are always likely to sell more to boys than to girls. There have been more girl-orientated City sets over the years (car & caravan, some of the houses, etc) but the type of set that is likely to sell in higher numbers is that which has more play factor and more excitement for kids and this will always tend to gravitate towards action sets which will appeal more to boys. Over the years, the development of City sets and parts with this in mind has meant that a lot of specific City components are designed for making this kind of set (eg Lots of car parts, tools, etc) LEGO know this and (apart from the odd set as mentioned above) have taken action through the creation of the Friends line to utilise City type parts in a way which is more appealing to girls. So, back to the orginal question, do LEGO market City towards boys? Yes, they probably do but that's not necessairly wrong. Car manufacturers do the same marketing cars towards males or females or the young or families. While a utopian manufacturer would like to sell their products to 100% of the population there are very few products that can do this. This means that marketing is most often targeted at those who are most likely to buy a product and only sometimes is it targeted to try and extend a customer base outside of the typical demographic as it's both expensive and potentially risky to do so. Cheers Rog

What kind of scale do you want to end up with? Would the LEGO Racers Remote Control cars from a couple of years back work? They did some smaller RC cars (8183/8184 were the set numbers) which may help. They had regulcar LEGO System studs rather than the frames of the larger RC cars. http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8183-1 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8184-1 Of course you'd have to get hold of them from somewhere as they have been EOL for a while now.... Anyone know the part numbers for just the motors/remotes? Cheers Rog

Very nice work and very authentic! I bet it doesn't float though... Cheers Rog

Lego Acquires LDraw Parts Library
rriggs replied to prateek's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
For a site that is so strict about the quality of posts and the standards of English and contributions I think it's very poor that the filter is abused by those who control it. It has it's uses but one of those uses should not be to change legitimate statements and posts into jibberish. Cheers Rog
