Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
Blakstone replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree that these make great addition to existing Historic / Fantasy LMFs, but I don't plan on buying more than 2-3 of each of them. I am just not that into the elf's shield design and the wonderfully printed warhammer looks like a specific hammer. I might add one to the Evil Knight army as the pattern makes the hammer. I am sure the Highwayman will be a great army builder. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17 Rumors and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the matador is quite possible. Regarding the blood thirsty spot aspect, they can "fix" this in the lore by having the description mention that the bulls either always wins or that they are some how well treated after the fight. Perhaps the matador always fights the same bull, losing each time. We have already had a modular designed to smuggle prohibition cookies instead of alcohol. Matadors in this LEGO world don't have to kill the bulls.- 1,421 replies

I won. Hmmm... do I root for Tinkerbell or 60s Catwoman?

That is a bit uncalled for in my opinion. There is a lot of disappointment for Historical and Castle fans when LEGO calls this theme a continuation of Castle. Most fans understand that this is targeted for kids, but when you cannot find any use for the parts in traditional builds, it is disappointing. I doubt it would be so bad if there was one historic theme going such as Pirates or Wild West. Regarding the care and detail given to the villainous characters in a TV show, that is all well and good if you want to watch the show. I don't have to watch the show to have an opinion on them. In that case, my opinion is just based on printing on the minifig and part selection.

A prince sounds promising. I wonder if he will be in more casual clothes or better prepared to slay a dragon. Hopefully he will have the larger shield with great heraldry.- 1,421 replies

Itaria, I know that you and I have some of the same interests in minifig subtheme. As a Castle / historic fan, is there several minifigs to be excited about?- 1,421 replies

An eventful walk in the woods...

While I don't like Nexo Knights and it does bother me that it may be preventing a castle theme that I would enjoy, I do NOT find it a betrayal. Betrayal makes it sound like LEGO owed us a specific type of theme and they forsook their oath. I believe LEGO thinks that most AFOLs move on to Modulars, Ideas, UCS, and Dimension sets and targets kids for their smaller sets. And if they maintain the design aesthetic for these smaller themes, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Frankly there is not a must buy theme for me anymore but I can find a bit to like in quite a few themes. I LOVED Castle as a kid, but the simplistic designs of the minifigures do not pair well with modern ones. I want a Castle theme back that continues the level of detail of Kingdoms, Lord of the Rings, and the CMF series. If Castle 2020 looks on par with Castle 2013, I will probably pick up only a few and wait for clearance. If Castle 2020 looks like Kingdoms, I will horde the sets when they are first released.

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
Blakstone replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If the prices of CMF's continue to rise, then I think they should get rid of the blind bag method. I am generally good at feeling the bags, but they may kill the market in attempt to get closer to the secondary market prices. The secondary market, though, tells you which figure you are getting. Yes, I want more historic (including Castle) sets, but I do not think anything can replace the role of CMFs. This is where we can new shield sizes, mace, and other molds. The printing on them surpasses even Kingdoms, rivaling Lord of the Rings quality. I also build in Roman, Victorian, historical Japanese and other time periods. And those periods will never support a wave of sets. There is not much here to get excited about for me. The shoulder gear and legs pretty close to what we already have. The sword is nice but at LEGO Dimensions prices, I can only see getting one as an Easter Egg in a large build. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17 Rumors and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The NInjago Movie is a join effort between the movie studio and LEGO. Just like The LEGO Movie sets were considered a licensed theme, I would consider consider the CMF series. After all, the studio will have a say in that is included and approved as it can impact the success of the film. Changing topics... Did anyone else notice the molded umbrella in the LEGO Batman movie set? I bet we will get that in CMF Series 17 as well. I wonder if it will be another English businessman or perhaps a nanny which carries it.- 1,421 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17 Rumors and Discussion

Our Bride is still missing wedding party members including the Groom, Ring Bearer, and Flower Girl. Weddings are a staple in June. We could also go old school with a maypole dancer. I think those would be more fitting than Halloween stuff for May. It is understandable that September series contain Halloween stuff but I think we need more figures that fit in a Holiday or Winter village setting as well. But May is definitely the wrong time for that.- 1,421 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17 Rumors and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Trick-or-Treaters make sense for a September series but I don't feel a desire to have one every series. It would be out of place in May. I agree that the food / animal costume is a full fledged reoccurring them in each series now. What sort Spring / Summer specific minifigs could be found in a May release though?- 1,421 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 poll
Blakstone replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I really enjoy the regular CMF sereies and Series 16 is no exception. We get minifigs here that would not fit in anywhere else. I won the Best City award at Brickuniverse for my Victorian London street that was inspired by the Constable. Series 16 has castle, historic, pirate, sci-fi, Halloween, and city themes in it. It contains so much possibilities. While the rogue (Wolfpack) is my favorite. I really liked most of these. My biggest disappointment was the Desert Warrior as the sword is too large and look comedic. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Blakstone replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There are a couple big differences between the direct market and the secondary market. Most importantly you know exactly which minifig you are getting on the secondary market. I generally consider myself very good at feeling bags but I occasionally screw up. Also it can take me a long time to go through a display of minifigs to get the ones I want. If LEGO wants their raise their prices closer to the secondary market, they should consider clearly marking the minifig inside. The price differences on the secondary market are simply increments of $1 (or your local currency). I can stomach occasional price increases, but if they were 25 or 50 cents it would seem more reasonable. I see why they don't want speculators buying up vast quantities to drive up prices and scalp minifigs. I applaud LEGO putting out the Easter Chicken Suit Guy as a way to bring secondary market prices down on those and get a popular figure into the hands of kids again. The casual fan wins with these efforts. I hope LEGO returns to the occasional minifig blister pack similar to the Halloween and Bdach ones as a way to get older CMFs to fans. It would be great to get a Roman one with the Emperor, Centurion, Officer, and Gladiator. They could also do a Far East one with Kimodo Girl, Sumo wrestler x2, Ninja, Samurai Warrior. -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Blakstone replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
While licensed characters are good, they lack a lot of flexibility for me. I bought about half of the Disney figs due to their historical appeal. I have to protest the comment about The Simpsons. Their are fleshies in a sense as non white characters are not yellow. I can likely find some LTBM minifigs that I will collect, I already know that none of them will work for a historic MOC. A regular series will generally give me a few that are perfect for that. -
I don't like the Nexo Knights although it does not bother me if anyone else does. I have three criteria when I look at any LEGO set: the minifigures, the build, and the parts. Nexo Knights strikes out on all three. I bought that Lavaria Ultimate pack twice (once one clearance) for the flick-fire crossbow and since the minifig print was okay. I still don't like 2013 Castle as the minifig prints look too childish for my tastes. The builds were okay and the part selection and colors weren't bad. As the level of detail on minifigs increase in both the licensed lines (LotR, PotC, etc) as well as in the CMF lines, it makes the older minifigures less appealing. Sure I got the Classic Knight this year and I love him for the nostalgia factor. But both him and any old school Forestman will never find themselves in a MOC. Kingdoms was the last great Castle line with detailed and realistic enough minifigures for my taste. I will keep consuming the CMF and hope to get tons of the new Disney Castle shields on Bricks and Pieces as I like that style of heraldry even better than the CMF ones. While we do not know how well Nexo Knights are selling, I think it is safe to say they are not doing as well as Elves. Here is the only true glimce we get to see from the LEGO 2015 Annual Report to Shareholders:
