Boomingham watches the mage that he had met a few quests ago quickly enter and exit the hall. He sighed. Who in the hall was his friend? He had written a letter to Hybros, but he had not received a response, and none in the hall seemed to take notice of the battle weary Paladin. Boomingham was afraid that if he got more lonely and bored he'd have to start a singing and dancing routine to get some attention.

And before I forget, Peppermint_M did a lot of ground work for me, so thank you! If you'd like Adeline Rouge Doux to still be at the beginning with her introduction, I'd be more than happy to have her there.

And up goes the Heroica NPC Index! The Quest Masters essentially put it together, so everyone say a big thank you to them! I just organized it. It's still a WIP, we're missing some of Sandy's NPCs, I didn't plug in all the ones that Masked Builder and Brickdoctor gave me, and I still have to write-up the Moranis Children and the Orcs fromthat same quest. It's also missing a few of my NPCs,actually (Vipera and Vonnetate will be plugged in). A few QMs have yet to give me anything, but it's not a time constrained project, so that's a-okay. But, I was heading out and wanted to get it up. We've actually, it turns out, got quite a few NPCs. And they've all got fun names (Dr. Monalisa was created by Legonardo, and Moranis shrunk his kids... maybe everyone else caught those already, but I sure hadn't). Anyway, take a look, it's a lot of fun, and we've built up quite a world already with only 23 Quests! Imagine when we reach 100... which reminds me, QMs, when you can, reuse NPCs! It's fun and saves me time, and helps create a "world" feel to Heroica.

The Heroica NPC Index Octobers's Featured NPCs The One You NEED To Know The Sand Queen/Oracle Semiramis Azzurati - Human - Heroica/Priestesses of Fabula Sibylla This mysterious woman is called a queen with a good reason, for she was the wife of the king of the once fertile land of Azzurat that was buried under the desert by a horde of demons that were summoned by her mad husband. She and most of her people managed to escape the doom, thanks to her inherent power of clairvoyance. Besides being a Veteran of Heroica, she also acts as the Oracle of Fabula Sibylla in Eubric. Alive, In Eubric The One We Want To See Featured Again Captain Hlin Horrkkba - Human - Ve'er Town watch Bio: The dashing, debonair Captain of the Ve'er Town Watch, Hlin Horrkkba was not above petty bribery in his first encounter with heroes of Heroica. However, when children of Ve'er went missing, including his own daughter, Vell, Hlin knew he needed help and brought in more heroes. Together they helped rescue all the children, with Hlin proving himself to be a fearless and masterful swordsman despite his arrogant demeanor. Alive, In Ve'er The One Everyone Loves Sir Earl Poletad - Frog - Frog Paladins Sir Poletad was saved by the heroes in a factory in Haddon. Afterwards, he fought alongside the heroes. He is extremely brave and proud of himself, though he often times over-estimates his ability, and is sheepish about how brave he is. In Dastan, Poletad proved himself to care more about doing what he found morally right, as opposed to fighting Wren. He helped to protect all members of Dastan, including helping the heroes save Mallelio instead of chasing Wren. Mallelio returned the favor by going to save Hans and Poletad in the Battle of Drakencourt. Poletad has promised to be in Eubric when Wren arrives. Poletad fought bravely alongside the heroes as they protected Eubric from Wren. When the fighting ended he was the last to say his farewells before hopping off to parts unknown. Boomingham sits at his table, alone, and scratches out a few letters. There were those in the world that he had not seen for quite some time, and though his meetings with them had been short, he had liked them, and was beginning to miss them. Though the hall seemed busy enough, Boomingham felt lonely. Dear Hybros, How are you, you wondrously clever little imp! I hope that the world is treating you well. The Orc bar maid tells me that you are out on a Quest hunting pirates, and what's more with Eric, once more! Tell him a say a big hello. It seems so long ago that we were searching crates for something that wasn't there, hopefully since then you have had more interesting adventures, all I have done was retrieve stolen objects in the desert, and again in the frozen lands of the north. Not terribly exciting, I'm afraid. I hope to see you soon, my friend. -Boomingham

<You used her three times, which is all the uses you had for her, sorry.> <I was wrong, you may use her one more time, she has four uses! I'll go ahead and assume you'll use her, since this is the final battle.>
-
The reason I didn't have any of the heroes kill Felton is because they had all drawn weapons after you fired your arrow. So I just had Wren burn him. Who says your arrow didn't hit, perhaps it did! Also, you knew an evil monologue was coming up because I told you it was. And thanks for the JimBee.
-
And here we are on the final battle. Good luck, questies! Also, just a side note, but you guys really did some of the best speeches in Heroica while you waited for Wren to explain. You guys are more jaded because of her. Congratulations, she forced your characters to evolve in a realistic way.

<My camera cord has gone inexplicably missing in my three day absence, I'll add photos as soon as I locate it once more!> Wren snaps her fingers, and the still frozen Rebel Felton burns quickly and quietly. "Too bad, that, he was a rather fine creature. I've never created a copy before, and I do think he worked out beautifully. I wonder if he had any independent thought... perhaps I just killed something that could have matured into a real being..." Wren gives a twinkling laugh and a shrug of her shoulders. "Aw well." “And now, dears, it’s time for an explanation. I want to be challenged, and if you heroes of Heroica don’t know what you’re up against, what I am, you’ll never do anything to stop me, and I’ll walk right on over you, and that won’t create any Chaos, now will it my lovelies? It’s just like this these Guards and Rebels. It didn’t matter to me who won, as long as the war created bloodshed. That’s why I backed Vonnetate and his army of meanies. He would have been crushed without my help, and your help, of course. The Guards, the righteous, would have won and there would have been very little disorder – they would have just put down another rebellion, but thanks to me and you, there was a war. A real, chaotic war. He hi ho. And Felton is right, he, if he had been on the side of the meanies, would have seen through them right away, so I did need a copy. I left the real Felton alive not because I failed to kill him, but because he helped. The double Feltons... the Chaos off of that confusion can summon a Chaos Beast all on its own. Oh, it gives me shivers.” “Now, Haldor, to answer your question, dear… well, you’ve read some of my personal story. As a hero of Heroica it become obvious to me that the world is an evil and chaotic place, and no number of heroes will help that, in fact, by trying to fix the chaos, we make it multiply. Think about walking up a rushing stream – you create even more severe ripples by doing so. You all think that I am a supreme being with control over everything, or that I am the epitome evil, but neither of these are true. I am simply going along with the way of the world, as Skrall so beautifully put it. The world is chaotic, and as an agent of chaos, I have an easy time getting my way because the world is working with me. What did I do here? I created a single liar, and that’s it. Felton and Hans sent for you and backed the wrong side, and the town itself created the war. I have an easy time because I want the world to be the way it is.” “As for my ‘purest of evils’ status... thank you for that title, Haldor, I think I will use it from now on dearest. Anywhoooo, that is not the case. Again, I am just a product of the world. All the world is selfish, all the world is evil, and all the world is chaotic, and instead of fighting against it, I’ve decided to master it. If you are walking up the river, I am walking down it, and it is helping me along. I am a human in a broken world, so why not become more in that same broken world? My goal is power. Yes, that’s all, power, not as elegant as some were hoping I’m sure, but it’s true. I can’t fix the world, it’s too late for that, but I can master it, and while I’m alive, I can be the best of it. Not the most righteous… but the best. And Zoot will allow me to do that. It is selfish, but the whole world is selfish, so why fight what could make me happy?” Wren leans in close to the heroes and whispers. “Zoot is not my master, I am his master, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly dream. Chaos is the master of the world, Zoot is the master of Chaos, and I will be the master of Zoot. Tremble, my dearests, tremble.” Wren then waltzes away a few steps. If she seemed unhinged before, she is clearly more so now. She giggles to herself and hums happily. Suddenly, she whips around to face the heroes, and behind her appears the three Chaos Beasts - damaged from their previous encounters with the heroes, but very much alive. "So much Chaos... oh it fills me with such joy, suuuuuuch joooooooy heroessss" she croons. "But I must depart. The High Kingdoms are wonderful, but there is Chaos elsewhere, so much Chaos everywhere, and I want to see it all, bask in it all, use it all. Zoot will rise and he will be mine. Good bye, heroes. We will meet again... if you survive." Wren disappears. The Chaos Beasts remain. Time resumes. Felton, Hans, McColt and Poletad tumble back in shock. The battle has begun. Sorry all, I'll post the final battle when I return; along with a wren rant. I'm travelling again today.
-
"The real Felton? That's quite easy, isn't it, dear? Tesni has it all figured out. The Rebel Felton is a fake, and the Guard Felton is real!"
-
<Even fixing my NPC dialogue. > "Oh, my dearest Skrall, finally you remember. How lovely. Yes, the tables are now turned it seems, you working for Heroica and me standing in your way. Chaos Beasts are truly wonderful beings. They are summoned by the world itself, and they appear entirely on their own... only... on less occasions than if they're helped along. Chaos is everywhere, and Chaos Beasts feeeeeed off of it. They're ripped out of nothing when there's enough Chaos, and in that way they are Chaos themselves. Some people believe that if enough Chaos is gathered, Zoot himself may rip into existence. But enough of this small talk. Which of the Feltons do you wish dead, my dear Ogre? Also, none of you have asked me the simplest question of all, yet. I wonder if the Nord will think of it. I'll tell you anything, if you ask me."
-
Sorry MDM. One more battle folks. I'm sorry this quest ended up being so much longer than I expected, I hope it's not too awfully long. I'm excited to get critiqued, I think I've gotten better since my first quest and learned even more from this one, but want to hear what you have to say! I also think I'll critique the players/characters (though it's a good 90% nice things and a good 10% questions) if no one is opposed to it!
-
"Well, that's very admirable of you dear, but that sadly leaves us at an even number again. So, I've got to freeze someone else, and sense you're not voting, I guess it will be you!" Hoke is also petrified where he stands. Wren stares at him for a few seconds. "Oh my, I'm sorry, I don't think that's how it works at all, I should have frozen someone who was voting. Whoops. I was never very good at math. Sorry dears."
-
I'm sure you guys are smart enough to figure it out! Actually, the 4th Wren quest is ACTUALLY currently very much modeled after a mafia game, but we have a while before that.
-
"Very good question, my dearest. Haddon was already on the brink of a revolt. The Rebels were preparing for action. You are right, Chaos from nothing is not Chaos. In fact, as an agent of Chaos, I cannot create Chaos, as that is what is expected of me, and I am doing the unchaotic thing by following what others think I will do. No, no, dear, this region was doomed from the start. As for your darkness, your talk of defeating your enemies... we are not as different as some would like to believe, my dear. Tell your friend Haldor that I am not the purest of evils, if you wouldn't mind. If that gossip back at Heroica caught wind of that, I'd never hear the end of it." "And Haldor, my simple Norseman, you may ask me one question, not the poor, frozen Feltons. They cannot answer anything. Though I am insulted that you do think I would make an imperfect copy."

Round Nine War Results Hans v. Rebel A - Miss Skrall v. Rebel U - Shield Haldor v. Rebel U S - Critical Hit Tensi v. Rebel S K - Shield Hoke v. Rebel S K - Miss Shield Rebel Felton v. Rebel K - Critical Hit Guard Felton v. Rebel J R - Damage McColt v. Rebel R - Special Damage Dyric v. Rebel W - Shield Jess v. Rebel R - Critical Hit The battle continues. Hans swings his blade, but the Rebel sidesteps. Unfortunantly for the swift Rebel, he steps into Skrall's shot, and the Ogre's mighty arrow passes through Rebel A, through his intended target, Rebel U, and into Rebel J, ending all three of their lives. Haldor, having lost his original target, instead kills Rebel S, and Tesni, also losing her target, gives out a yell as Hoke prepares his shield, just in case there is danger next round. Rebel K feels like he is sitting pretty, safe from the two heaviest hitters, until Rebel Felton ends his life. Rebel R dances forward and with some skillful sword play cuts booth McColt and Felton (-4, -6) before Jess ends his life, and Dyric kills the final Rebel and collects 8 gold off the battle field, though he almost targets a Guard by accident... Both Feltons stand, totally still, as do Hans and McColt, and the slowly recovering and ink covered Poletad. Suddenly, before the heroes, stands Wren. "Hello, dears. Nice work so far, you just killed 27 men. Very impressive, very impressive indeed. I think you have earned a prize, and I'm going to give it to you. One of these Feltons is fake. Yes, yes, I know my dears, you've already figured it out, but which one is fake? That's the question, isn't it? You think you know, but do you? Do you really think think that I would make it as obvious as you think, or have I made it as obvious as you think? You dislike Vonnetate, wonderful judge of character by the way, heroes, he's utterly despicable, but can you trust McColt anymore? Would I even care about the leadership of either side?" You must each vote for one of the Feltons, and no matter which one you vote for, even if he's my Felton, I'll kill him, suck the life out of him myself... and we have an uneven number. Jess, dear, step forward." Jess steps forward, unwilling, her limbs working on their own. Suddenly, she freezes, petrified. "There we go, thank you for being so compliant, dear. Now you're an odd number. Also, dears, you may each ask me one question. Call it what you like, be it vanity or a sense of fairness, but I want you to know what I'm doing. You read my story, what did you think heroes? Perhaps not the best piece of literature, but still, did you learn anything? Please, give me your vote and question, and I shall comply most happily. And if you can't figure out what I'm doing... well, I may just tell you anyway, but I'll be quite disappointed in you lovely smart, strong, righteous heroes.

If we're still looking for Quests, I actually do have an idea for a very small short Quest, maybe 4 people tops. I'll PM you soon Sandy. I love Wren quests, but I don't think a small interlude would be bad.

Boomingham nods politely to Alexis, who he quested with on his very first quest. She had not made much of an impression on him then, but she had clearly grown. He is still unsettled by time travel, and by Cronk's genuine refusal to accept responsibility for the crimes his species had paid. It bothered Boomingham that Cronk seemed to feel truly guiltless, and that he did not even associate himself with the Orcs who had committed so many wrongs, but he could not see anyway past it, and it wasn't in his rights to ruin the slightly naive and simple Paladin's happy disposition. He decided that what had happened had happened, and returned to his normal demeanor - a determined happiness. Those who were sad chose to be happy were happy, and those who decided to be unhappy were unhappy, and this was something Boomingham knew. Happy or sad, facts were facts, and what had passed could not be changed. Looking forward was all he, or anyone was capable of. However, it was tough to remain cheerful when all he had to do was sit and stew. He waves Barty away, hoping that he will sign him up for Quest #23 Guarding the Guards. "Distract me, dear," he ordered Alexis briskly. "What has happened since we searched that warehouse together? I hear, from that wonderous grapevine, and that gossiping Orc, never trust an Orc I always-" Boomingham becomes acutely aware that Cronk is still at the table, but he cannot change his sentence at this point, he is not mentally agile enough, "-say... yes, sorry chap, but your kind, as a whole, are not very trustworthy... especially not the barmaid... she is a gossip..." Boomingham stops, and decides to cut his loses. He does not apologize to Cronk. He cannot treat him like all Orcs because he is clearly what his species would consider an outcast, a defect, which is exactly what made him even remotely acceptable as a being, but the things he dislikes about Orcs stand, they had started a war and people had suffered. That stood, always. "Tell me, Alexis, what has happened. I hear talk of you batting your beautiful eyelashes at a certain Mage."

Boomingham and Cronk sit in silence for a long time as Boomingham stares at Cronk, thinking. Finally, he offers his hand. "I can't be friends with you, Orc, at least at the time being. I'm aware times have changed, but for me, the memories are strong. I'll offer you a skeptical acquaintanceship with a chance of gaining my respect, how's about that, chappo?"

Sorry everyone, Fridays are my busy day. I'm travelling this weekend, so I'll try to update once a day, but it's not as much as I'd like.

Yes, thank you for keeping my heavy role playing light and fun, Cronk! It's letting me get out some things about Boomingham that need outing eventually, and Cronk is a great foil!
