Hey, sometimes people get past tiffs as well. This doesn't have to be the end of problems for Haldor and Jess... most couples do make it past their first fight.
-
Yeah, best to just leave him in at this point.

Market Invasion Round Nine Atramor Gibbin heals Nyx - No Heal Tarn Valco - Phoenix Essence on Phil Nyx v. Tarn - Critical Hit (Healing Staff) (No Summon) Phil v. Lyons - Damage Free Hits Commander v. Hehe, I do too! He's a lot of fun to play, and I actually know him at this point, which is really fun. I want to be a writer, and I've never spent a year with a character before, so it's been quite an exercise and experience. We'll see what Orang and Amphibiannoc have in store for you.
-
"Life went on and I was forgotten, that's the way it went," Boomingham offers with a sad little chuckle. "Onwards and upwards," he murmurs confidently and downs another drink in one gulp. His eyes water slightly. "Burns," he chokes out as he coughs and sputters.
-
Boomingham sighs and stares into the empty glass. "Had, yes. She's dead now. I left for war, expecting to come home to her. Never quite did. We had problems too, figured we'd work them out after the Orcs were worked out. We never quite got the chance. I was unfaithful, she didn't like it. Figures." Boomingham licks his lips. "I really did love her. She married someone else, after I had been gone long enough. Forgot all about me, according to the history books. Such is life, I guess."
-
I'm sorry, I'm just spit-balling. You're right, maybe steam-punk wouldn't be fun for everyone. I'm a Steam-Punk addict, but I do understand. Still, I'd want to see the landscape changed in SOME real way. Again, year and years away, real time. And yes! That would be the idea. I wouldn't want all the heroes to die. Just if you got KO'd, that would be it. It would add a real challenge to that final quest, and would let those who wanted to go out in a blaze of glory. When your character is playing for real permanent stakes... that changes the game. Boomingham would be way more likely to revive a friend if the consequence was them gone as opposed to not gaining half a level. And you'd also play the game differently. I always like seeing who comes out at the end of an epic fight in movies. The rag-tag gang is always more fun to see than everyone. Maybe one character would lose all their friends, and maybe Althior and Alexis would come through totally fine. It would be the ultimate final Role-Playing experience for the heroes to deal with real death, while still a majority of them surviving. Think Serenity or Game of Thrones. There are four spots.
-
I do hope for something very similar. Here are my specific hopes: -End in a super ultimate quest/battle/puzzle/whatever where when heroes are KO'd, they die forever. -If we do something afterwards, we jump forward like 50 years. That way we could reboot without reusing characters, and the landscape of the Heroica world would have significantly changed. Maybe a Steam-punk RPG in the same world could step forth. BUT, of course, this is YEARS away, real time. I just really really hope that we conclude the story before it fizzles into nothing, because that would depress me. Read the old Eurobricks RPG game. It was really awesome and active for a long while... and then the story just disappeared. Yeah, I got the hint, it's too bad, would have loved to have you around. You best come back for the final Wren Quest though! And Haldor, you should definitely come back. If you, Nur and WBD sign up for it, there's your reunion quest right there. And two of you served in Haddon, which would make me happy. Apparently my dice agree with me that quests should be super challenging. I actually can think of a pretty air-tight strategy to win this battle for you guys... but it would make the final battle even tougher. It's almost like your QM set it up that way.

Boomingham listens from the bar. He burps and stand up. "Excuse me, Hybros, Nur. I have something I've got to go do." Boomingham lurches over to the fighting couple. "Listen," he slurred, draping an arm on each of their shoulders. "Life is short, and you can be taken away from each other like that!" Boomingham attempts to snap his fingers. He fails. "Now, I can't pretend to know either of you all that well, so Hel, maybe this isn't a couple made in the stars, but again, Hel, maybe it is, if you're still following me." Boomingham's eyes narrow suspiciously at nothing in particular. "Jess, you can't expect Haldor to improve you. S'not his job. You gotta improve yourslef, sorry, self. You either love him or you don't, alright? You can't just use him. Take responsibility. Haldor, protect your woman. That's... that's your duty! I don't gibe a rat's megablocks about who is holy to what, you protect her when something attacks her, okay? Okay." "Look, you either like each other, or not. That's what everything boils down to. If you do, cut the crap, if you don't, cut the crap." Boomingham pats them both forcefully on the back, steals Haldor's still full glass, and waltzes back to the bar. "Crazy kids," he mumbles to Hybros and Nur before downing the glass.

Market Invasion Round Eight Atramor Gibbin heals Thothwick - Heals Tarn Valco v. Lyons - Miss Thothwick v. Rogue Lion Commander B - Damage Phil v. Lyons - Damage Nyx v. Rogue Lion Commander B - Damage The battle continues. Atramor heals Thothwick as magic once more flows through the witch. The still surprisingly agile Lyons dodges out of the way of Tarn's blow, and the Rogue Commander batters Thothwick until he falls. Phil raises his great hammer against Lyons, but Lyons slashes his chest open and leaves a huge cut up the center of his face. Phil falls and the hammer clatters. Nyx charges up a spell, but the Rogue Lion Knight Commander is already on top of her, and stabs her right above her left hip (-30/2=15). The poison bubbles (-1). No, though I would be super excited to host the quest that reunites those three. That would be AWESOME. Seeing those three who quested together in their first quest... after all this time... that would be awesome. Someone should host reunion quests for some of the original quest groups! The final battle of Dastan should be started by then though! It could be a pretty long battle, but still, we're very close to you all coming home... and then I'm hoping to scoop up some Wren Vets to even out the sign-ups for Quest 38.
-
See, that's where I disagree. Every story needs to have its conclusion. I'd be sad, personally, to leave Boomingham behind without knowing where Eubric was headed. I do want to see how the heroes have changed Eubric, or the entire world. That would be the good conclusion. A conclusion can be epic without it being good v. evil - it just shows how the characters and the world have changed. On our unrelated note, so am I. I think it will be really fun, and I'm excited to see how a non-Wren Zepher Quest is received. And if no one else signs up... well, the team I've got right now would be pretty awesome.

Questies - Sorry, things are hectic work-wise, and I have to take pictures as we near the end of the round, so I will update probably within about 12 hours, but I must sleep right now. We're going to need to wait for the other quests to catch up anyway... as you may have predicted, we're all heading towards the final fight. Thanks for the patience. NOW: Big Question for the interim. This is something that I've given a lot of thought to, but what do you think the end of the game might be? I know that it's years away, but I actually hope that it isn't too far away. I'd prefer the game to go out with a bang after four years rather than fizzle out after seven... but that's neither here nor there (and not a slight to Sandy, even the best games must close out eventually, especially RPGs, as they are a story and the players want a conclusion eventually). What do you think it might entail? All the heroes on one quest? Would that be possible? Will heroes be able to die at the end if KO'd. That would be awesome and I'd totally support it. Who might the final boss battle be against? The Wolfgang? The Houses? Someone we have yet to meet? Will there even be that cut and dry of a conclusion? Will the Hall be destroyed? Will the Veterans play a role? There's so much to wonder. As we approach the one year anniversary, I pose the three questions that are most on my mind: Where do you see the (main) story of Heroica going in the next year, how long do you think Heroica will last, and what is your BEST prediction for the final events of the game when that times comes? Totally unrelated: just caught up on my reading of Quest 35, and I got to say Arasmyth has really come along as a character. He's pretty funny actually, in a realistic way. I don't know, I just sort of thought he wasn't very developed, but after reading over the quest a bit, he's really taken on a shape of his own recently.

OoC: CMP, you should have healed Nyx with "Heal Less". Sorry, I wrote it in the battle description, but not in the actions. -
"But that's just the thing, mister Nur, he isn't dead at all he's just... he's just hiding to mess with me. He's trying to egg me on..." Boomingham slurs angrily to himself. "Don't we have one of those chaps in the hall? Thothwick, I met him once, he was a supportive and noble soul. Perhaps we ought to send him as an ambassador to them."

OoC: I kid you not, these are the dice rolls. I literally said "oh come on" when I rolled the first two. I am 100% looking forward to you guys actually healing each other and finishing up this battle. At least Phil is using his special... over and over again... Market Invasion Round Seven Nyx v. Phil - Miss Atramor Gibbin heals Nyx - Miss Heal Less Thothwick v. Rogue Lion Commander B - Shield William Harkenshire v. Lyons - Special Damage William Harkenshire v. Rogue Lion Commander B - Shield Tarn Valco v. Lyons - Hit Phil v. Lyons - Shield The battle continues. Nyx stumbles backwards and her healing staff slams down into her, knocking the wind out of her. Atramor's magic sparks and fizzles and a single strand of orange light zaps Nyx (+19). Thothwick slides his sabre into the Commander's side (-[([8x3]+17)-2]=39.) The shocked Commander wheezes and Thothwick calmly steals 39 gold from the man, sure he will need it later. Lyons cries out as Harkenshire fires, encouraging his ally and ramming his sword into Harkenshire once more (48/2=24). Tarn and Phil dash forward and beat Lyons back with swings from Halberd and Hammer (-[25-10]=15). (47/2=23.5=24). The poison from Thothwick's blade leaks into the Commander's system (-1). Boomingham repockets the gold that Nur passes him. "I guess I won't spend it on weapon enhancements just yet, then," he says. "Thanks for the tip, chap. Next drinks on me." Boomingham giggles and sways. "Ha! My angel has gone on a vacation. He's trying to make me feel guilty for smiting him- ran my sword through him by accident, Nur can tell you about it... but I know that he's just trying to make me feel guilt. That's all religion is. Guilt guilt guilt. You learn from your actions, but you don't dwell on them. That's my religion." Boomingham belches. "I haven't run into any of the houses since we first looked through those wares. I hope to stick around Eubric now and see what I can do. Appears that we've got a problem festering in our own home. Wolfgang has to be put down... Nur, you said you knew 'em, right? Let's hear."

Host a quest for the three of us. THAT would be a fun team. I actually glanced over Jebs' style yesterday as well. I also try to force my heroes to use their consumables too, because I as a player never really feel like I need to, and they really build up after some time. Didn't even realize, but this is true! Ella and XX and U'Stus both also draw a lot from SW. Like Doc, my castle pieces are limited. Knights Kingdom for the most part.

Consistently stunning set, darkdragon.

Lyons - Hit William Harkenshire v. Rogue Lion Knight Commander B - Special Damage Tarn v. Lyons - Miss Phil v. Lyons - Shield The battle continues. Atramor revives the fallen Ranger, Harkenshire, who scrambles to his feet and begins to load his crossbow. Nyx lurches over to Thothwich and rams the healing staff into him. For the second time, her angry energy bubbles forth with it and while Thothwick is healed, he also feels electricity shoot through his body and fry him. Thothwick collapses onto the floor, regaining his composure. Harkenshire spins around and fires off a bolt at the Commander, which the Commander dodges, and a bolt at Lyons that clangs against his helmet (-[19-10]=9). The Commander cries out support for Lyons, who laughs as he dodges Tarn once more.
