Boomingham snorted in excitement at the sight of his smallest ally. "Hello, my little friend!! Glad you could join us. I have someone I need to go talk to, accompany me so we'll be able to catch up." Boomingham pats Haldor on the back, nods courteously to Alexis and Althior, winks at Guts, scoops up his Flaming Gumball as it arrives and begins the trek over to the bar, talking the whole way, hoping that the imp was following. "My adventures went very well. For the first time in a long time I remained in Eubric. It's an interesting city to be sure. I picked up some nice garb, fought a vampire or two, prevented a disaster, normal hero stuff. Went into debt a little... that's why I need to see this shaggy man over here. What about you?" Before Hybros can respond, the duo is at the bar. Boomingham taps Nur tentatively on the back. "Howdy, Nur. I owe you this." Boomingham shells out 20 gold pieces, putting his current total at 125, and places them on the bar. "Mind if my little friend and I join you for a drink? Nur, Hybros. Hybros, Nur. Don't know if you two are acquainted or not. Hybros was about to tell us what happened to him while we were away." Boomingham gulps down his Flaming Gumballs and then tries to get a bar keep's attention.
-
Boomingham winks at Alexis as she approaches, but before he can say anything, her mage has walked up and her attention has been drawn to him. Boomingham sighs. His head feels hot under his newly acquired hood. He mops it with his handkerchief and sighs again. "Hello, mage. I don't believe we've crossed paths before. My name is Lord Lawrence Boomingham, friend of Alexis, she was in the first crew that I quested with. I also see you and Haldor are pals... what do you say to a drink?"
-
That's what I figured, but worth asking.

Scuba, just for curiosity's sake, because I don't always read the Hall thread, did someone actually mention Boomningham to Guts, or are you just using it as a lead-in to conversation? I want to know if he was mentioned, and if so, by whom.
-
"Does any story involving women ever end well?" Boomingham chortles. He downs the glass that Guts gave him, leans back in his chair and sighs. "Drinking won't win her back, but it's a sure fire way to forget that you should be doing that. Does any story where you try to win people back ever end well, in truth? It's a daunting task, and rarely worth the trouble. Some people like you, and some don't, and that's that."
-
"Positive things, you say? That I'm a king among men and a god among kings? The flaming gumball is a tribute to a friend. If you make me an ally, I'll make sure to take a swig of wine for you too every time I get back here." Boomingham chortles and pats Guts on the back. The Lord's mead arrives and he downs it. The Gumball clearly takes longer to prepare.

Heroica RPG - Quest #30: Ambassadors to Dastan

OoC: Sorry, I'm waiting on Nyx, her move her is important, and she's got a few options. -
Boomingham slammed his meaty rough hand into Guts and shook it. "Pleasure to meet you, Guts. Yes, I'm Lord Boomingham, and I hope that the reputation that proceeds me isn't all bad." Boomingham chuckles. "How about both? I can do wine and harder stuff." Boomingham turns around and calls over his shoulder. "Someone bring me a Flaming Gumballs and a Mead!" Boomingham turns back to Guts. "Pour me a glass, if you wouldn't mind. Does anyone know if Nyx or Hoke has returned, or if Mr. Marvelo is around?"
-
Boomingham saunters into the hall in his normal way. He glances around with wide eyes and spots Docken. He walks up to the Warden and claps him on the back as he sorts out the money. "I'll take my 250... and then leave 105 of it with you," he says with a chuckle, scooping up the remaining 145 gold. He then makes his way over to Haldor and a man he does not recognize. "Care if I join in? I need somewhere to sit until Jess and Nur come and heckle me for their fair share of my loot. Worth it for the dress garb." Boomingham sags into a chair and spots his old friend, Hybros, in a nearby corner. He waves him over. "I need to be off to the market soon, but I figured I should relax after that hellish quest. Haldor, I know you need to free your mind... how strong is that wine of your's, mister? Nur promised he'd join us for a few glasses too... but I don't see any harm in starting without him."

Please post side-quests, always. I had a lot of fun with Boomingham this quest. I'm not sure if it was the incredible cast of PCs, NPCS, or (most likely) the combination of the both of them, but this is the first quest that made him really grow, I think. I always preach about how characters need to grow organically through the events that they experience, but so far I haven't really done that because none of the events up until this really pushed Boomingham or his understanding. Here he still wasn't really challenged too much, just more so than normal... not a bad thing at all, I just wonder what it will take for him to really truly change. Jebs, Doc, Sisco, Scorpiox - You were a AWESOME crew to quest with. What was particularly fun, beyond the awesome interaction between the awesome characters, was getting to play with the PLAYERS. Doc and I are working on a Quest together, and I've been Haldor's QM once, and Jess' twice, though Boomingham has never worked with either of them. Jebs is someone I've wanted to quest with since his very first quest, and he and Boomingham could easily turn into the rascals of Heroica. As much as Boomingham hates mages, Nyx and Nur have turned into two of his very best friends. WBD even, is someone I've QM'd for, but now the roles were reversed. Jusst a very fun crew of characters and players. WBD - Superb quest. I won't harp on the ending any more, others have already. I agree, it felt rushed and very straightforward, as if the heroes weren't smart enough to figure it out... which we weren't, but maybe if you had stepped up the clues, we could have, and we would have been more satisfied. The sets were awesome, the side stories were awesome, the loot was awesome. Great fun, thank you so much. Sometimes, I felt the pace lagged (not story-wise, real-time-wise), but that may just be me, and I'm choppy when I host too, so I get it. Thank you so much! I want to know what we missed.

Heroica RPG - Quest #28: The Breakthrough

Boomingham licked his lips and then smacked them together a few times. He winks at Nur and Docken. "That was fun. Perhaps we'll do it again some time. I feel like for the first time since I've joined Heroica, I actually accomplished something worth my time." Boomingham looks around once more, his eyes suddenly vacant. "I've got a problem with acting rashly from time to time, especially when provoked. Maybe he was trying to harp on that. I feel like the little guy isn't gone for good." Boomingham chews on the inside of his cheek and sighs deeply. "Well, best thing to do is keep going. Maybe I'll offend him so much that he'll be forced to come back. I sure could use him around. I'm afraid if I can't yell at him, I'll start yelling at people I like." Boomingham chuckles half-heartedly, then his eyes begin to twinkle again and he pulls a smile onto his face. "Drinks, when we're arrived back at the hall, Nur and Docken? I owe you both money anyway, you'll be forced to visit me. Besides, looks at this point like Haldor might need some brotherly comforting." -

"Well, Szalinski, it turns out that Bluehood had less than honorable intentions with that machine of your's. He had it built for nefarious purposes, and, well, you can see that we've kind of closed down that option for him, so that's really it, I guess. I don't know if you want to risk rebuilding that machine or not. I can't pretend to know how it works, but if someone comes along who isn't Bluehood and actually wants to use the machine for it's true purpose, it might be helpful to have around. I'll let you make that call, isn't my place. My job today was to stop Bluehood, and I did." -
I always do. After my final post has sunk in I always post all side-quests, minus all posts in the PM conversation that are only OoC, or only battle actions. At the end of Quest 19 you can find all four pages of the PM Quest. I did not use this strategy for Quest 7, and I feel bad about it. I still have the PM conversation with Cornelius and have considered in the past editing it into the final post, but figured no one would ever go back to look.

Quests should be fail-able or we'll never have any fun.

Phil grins before following Tarn into the fray. "Are you sure you aren't of Dastanian descent, boy? You have the bravery and honor of one of us." Phil lowers his voice. "No wonder you've caught the attention of our lovely lady Ella." Phil winks before swinging his hammer in an upwards arc at Lyons. -
Yeah, I do actually think it may be time for Boomingham to get a make-over. I've had him wearing the same stuff since he showed up, so why not change it up a little? And yeah, all the roleplaying of Quest 28 will be sorely missed when it is over. All the characters were fun to interact with, and I hope I get to quest with a number of you again soon. I find an issue (not really an issue I want to fix, just a note I guess) with Heroica is that with everyone all over the place all the time, it's hard to build up friendships when you go on a quest once with a character, and then don't see them for ages. Boomingham's close friends are all gone and he hasn't seen some of them for almost six months now. That's why I think some quest should be allowed to submit parties that want to go together. Not all quests, or you'd never meet new players, but some quests that way would be cool.

Lyons - Damage William Harkenshire v. Rogue Lion Knight Commander A - Critical Hit Phil v. Rogue Lion Knight Commander B - Miss Tarn v. Rogue Lion Knight Commander B - Special Damage The battle continues. Atramor's magic once more fizzles and dies, and before Nyx is able to make fun of him, she finds herself unable to even raise the healing staff again as blood drips down her arms and legs. Thothwick's weapon whizzes by the Commander who expertly weaves to the left, avoiding the throwing star and calling encouragement out to his allies. Lyons saunters up to Harkenshire and slices him across the chest, leaving a jagged and open wound (-12). William still successfully fires off a shot at the far off Commander A (-[([5x2]+14)-2]=22). The Commander stumbles backwards. Phil and Tarn try to land hits on the Commander, but he dodges away, laughing at them. Boomingham chuckles briefly. "If you two ladies are done arguing over who wore it best, perhaps Master Docken can lead us on to whoever we need to report to for our reward. I think you all want that gold to come my way as badly as I do." Feeling confident that no one else wanted it, Booimingham slipped the hood onto his head. He grinned. "And then, once we're done with all this, I've gotta track down an old fiend and give him a piece of my mind about abandoning me when I needed him." -

Boomingham picks up the old mages' hood and feels the material. "Mind if I hold on to this? I'd like it to help me remember." Boomingham removes the Thorny Diadem and holds it in hand. His eyes dart around and twinkle a little. "Wouldn't mind trading this off to someone else if need be, though I did throw a fair amount of coin Nur's way for it, so I might ask for a fair sum for it as well. Less than I paid for it, of course, because unlike my friend here, I'm no cut-throat." -
