  1. I'd say that the enemy my party is battling right now is one of the heavier hitters that we've had in Heroica... though this party is hitting pretty hard too.
  2. OoC: We've arrived at another classic Zepher Quest landmark! My camera cord has gone missing!! The Chimera pictures will be up super soon, pinky promise. Just got to locate the cord. Round 2 Chimera Battle Cronk v. Chimera - Special Damage I Skrall v. Chimera - Shield Special Damage II Isabella v. Chimera - Special Damage II Critical Hit Galen v. Chimera - Shield Damage Vipera v. Chimera - Special Damage II Thothwick v. Chimera - Critical Hit Miss William v. Mist - Critical Hit William v. Chimera - Shield The battle cotinues. Cronk charges forward, but the Chimera lowers her giant maw and slams her teeth into Cronk from every side (30-9=21). An arrow from Skrall causes the Chimera to release Cronk (-[11+4+18]-4=29). Isabella, Galen and Thothwick rush forward to collect their friend and as they drag him back to safety, they stab at the soft inside of the Chimera's mouth (Isabella: -[(8x2)+11]-4=23)(Galen: -[([5x3]+9)/2]-4=8). Vipera swoops in low, preparing to breath down fire on the monster, but it beats her to the punch and exhales a light blue mist that slams into Vipera and then Isabella and Cronk, freezing them in place (-15). Galen barely dodges out of the way. Thothwick, who by extreme luck did not attack from the front this round, chucks his Shuriken with precision (-([5x2]+17)-4=23). William brings up the rear of the turn, firing on the mist once (-[([5x2]+14)x2]=48). He then loads three shots and fires them all off in rapid succession, hitting the Chimera twice (-[19x2}-4=34) (-[19x2}-4=34) and the mist once (19x2=38). Cronk is blasted back by a gust of frost, and the Chimera wheels on Skrall and rains down a hail of ice spikes that freeze the ogre in place. He brushes them off but his head remains fogged. Thothwick stabs his sabre into the foot of the beast (-([8x3]+17)-4=37). Poison runs into the monster's blood stream. Galen rams his sword in next to Thothwick's, widening the gash (-([5x3]+9)-4=20). Isabella sneaks forth and stabs forth as well, widening the hole just the smallest amount (-[20-4]=16) before the giant foot flung the three heroes away William tries to fire once but his frozen fingers fumble with the trigger. He takes a deep breath and tries again, firing into the mist that surrounds the beast (-[([5x2]+14)x2]=48). Vipera breaths down warm fire on Galen, blessing him. Results of Round 9 of Battle in the Skies: Xander does nothing Nyx vs. Xander (Healing Staff) - Hit De'kra uses venom Nerwen heals Nyx - No Heal Sarick vs. Nerwen (Healing Staff) - Miss Free Hits Flavius vs. Xander (-[6-1]=5). Flavius hovers far above the heroes. Nyx burnishes her healing staff and slams it into Xander (+[5+19]=24). The barbarian is a tad stronger than previous targets of Nyx's healing might and can stand his ground. De'kra dips his weapon in his venom as Nerwen chants ancient words, trying to heal Nyx. Once more a sound in her head breaks her concentration, this time a horrifying and echoing roar. Sarick's healing staff slams into Nerwen, but for whatever reason, perhaps a mix of magics or perhaps a fluke no one can explain, it glances off without doing any harm nor good. Flavius whooshes back down and sinks an arrow into Xander as the others ready their weapons once more. Nyx prepares another blast, but once more as she fires it, so the Rito fires his arrow (Nyx: -6) (Flavius: -[13x2]=26). De'kra swings his tiny dagger at the Rito, slashing him and poisoning him (-20x2=40). Nerwen is able to heal Xander up to full health, and Sarick's powers over flow and he shoots a blast of wind energy that catches the Riot by surprise and snaps on of his wings (-17x2=34). The Rito stands as the poison racks his body, shaken, but ready for combat once more. A terrifying mass of mist and white fur, it tumbles through the forest. Its mouth is a huge hole rigged by terrible fangs. Its feet crush the ground, cascades of pebbles flying every time it steps. It is not as tall as the heroes thought it might be, but it seems to be growing constantly. The Rito lands heavily and then rolls down the hill and does not move, though De'kra is able to see her chest rising and falling, indicating she was still very much alive. Xander launches himself at Flavius, wielding his trusty Battle Ax, always a crowd pleaser. He lands an impressive hit (-[6x3]+13=31) that causes his opponent to lurch out of the skies.   13. The Jo-No Seed gives you the hastened effect in your next battle (just like a smelling salts) and adds the other two items to your inventory. It would be ill advised to use it at the end of a quest, as I think the hastened effect would go to waste.

  16. I'm sorry, I have been running the battle as if you've been using the club. I see now, re-reading, that you used the ax with JimBee, but I don't believe that it was ever bolded during this battle, and since the club was stronger and listed first in the inventory I've been reading (party list), I assumed that you would use it. I can replay this last round with your ax if you like. I also can't find the mechanics of the ax anywhere, so... how does it work? It says "Aim" next to it's name, but you're saying that it adds the hastened effect? Sorry.

Felton then tells of the plight of the town, the rebels are good people who are being oppressed by the government, who have allied themselves with Wren and built Chaos Factories. Hans says he is skeptical of the rebel’s motives, but Felton dismisses it as him just being grumpy. Offers 25 troops. 2) Gives a Phoenix’s Smoke, tells of Caravan’s travel. Says for each round that the heroes survive, he will give them an additional 2 troops. If they fall, he will not offer any troops. 3) The Party (with Hans) ambushes a caravan. Starts with 6 Caravan Soldiers, add 2 at the end of Round 1, then 4 at the end of Round 2, then 6 at the end of 3, and continue to add 4 after that. 4) The party returns and receives their troops. Fredrick Reich 1) Meet Fredrick – He says that he feels unsafe. He asks that two of the party stay to defend him. He offers 50 troops, and asks the party to bust Gregor, his SIC, out of prison. 2) The party travels to the Prison. They must find entrance. They meet with Wren, for the first time, who laughs at them, asking if they really know what they’re doing. She offers them entrance if they figure out a riddle. The riddle is as follows: 3) Once inside, the party must defeat the Jail Keeper. The Jail Keeper may be passed by if he is beat in cards. 4) When the party arrives at the camp Fredrick is gone, along with the SQ Party. It is revealed that the Guard descended on the grounds. Gregor takes command and only 25 troops are given. Samuel & Haddock 1) The party visits Samuel, who talks about his hatred of Haddock. He offers 20 troops, but says he will give 40 if they kill Haddock, who he claims is vicious and cruel. 2) Haddock is visited, and he says that they should kill Samuel. He explains that he only has five troops, which he will give either way, but he says that if they kill Samuel, he will give them three armor plates (+1 Health permanently). 3) The Players must pick out of three options. A) Kill Samuel (receive 5 troops and the armor), B) Kill Haddock (Receive 40 troops), C) Kill neither (receive 25 troops). (If they kill either of the Rebel Leaders, the Chaos Beasts all gain 1 level and 25 total health points). SQ Briefed by Felton (Guard) and Head Guard McColt. Felton explains he was misled, and that Wren tricked them into coming. The Rebels were already starting a civil war, and Wren wanted Hans and Felton to help them by making it seem that she was helping the government. That was never the case, she made up the Chaos Factories, they are really there to protect the people from the Rebels. Felton has been unable to reconnect with Hans, and cannot go to the rebels because the leaders know of Wren’s deception (Fake Felton) and would kill him on sight. Felton also explains it is too late to alert the other heroes. Must hold off Rebel attackers, who have the same stats as Guards to prove their worth. Six of them. Part 2 SQ – The SQ is recruited as generals, and they are told that a spy is planted in the enemy camp, so the SQ can hear what the rebels are planning. The rebels are planning to attack three points of interest. They are given 125 troops, and each rewards 100 gold. MQ – War approaches. The Rebels pick 3 major points to attack. In the before battle brawl, Rebel 1 yells that there is still a spy, and that his trap for Rebel 2 didn’t work. He openly admits to selling out Rebel 2, and says he does not regret it, even though he wasn’t a spy, as he was weak. War begins. RULES FOR WAR 1) Assign a number of troops to the position. The City Guard/Rebels will do the same. 2) You are given a Phoenix’s Smoke for each battle. You will fight the enemy troops, your number of enemies will depend on the amount of troops there. After you flee, if your troops outnumber your enemies’ troops, you have won the battle. The troops you used (not lost but used total) will be subtracted from your troop’s total. Remember the Guards will fight your troops (the number of your troops lost will be done fairly, trust your QM), so your troops will not be as numerous as when you began either. 3) Combat, in war, is slightly different. Bombs and shields that affect all enemies instead only affect six enemies. You should specify which six you wish to damage. 4) You will have to fight 3 battles, don’t use up all your troops in one go. 5) To win the War you must win 2 out of 3 battles. Battles (Heroes are healed in between) Battle of the Barracks Battle of the Plain – At the end of the battle Gregor, and Guard McColt are captured. Both opposing parties are offered the chance to execute their respective captives. For each person executed, the Chaos Beasts gain 1 level (+25 maximum health, +1 level). Battle of the Castle – If the heroes make it this far they reconnect and must pick a side to fight on. Whichever side they don’t pick suddenly receives 25 reinforcements. They may discuss which side to pick. Hans and Rebel Felton will side with the party automatically, McColt and Guard Felton will not. PARTIES: MQ: MQ Players + Felton + Hans SQ: SQ Players + Felton + Head of Guard McColt Part 3 The players are healed. No matter which side wins, Wren’s treachery is revealed. She explains that she set the two sides against each other, but does not say which side she was working with. The two Feltons (Rebel and Guard) are set in front of the players, and they are told to kill whichever one they distrust. Once they have, Wren flees, revealing she was rooting for Rebels, the Chaos Beasts return, and the final battle commences. City Guard 1) If Rebels won, they receive 50 gold and are dismissed with threats to never return. 2) If City Guard won, the Players receive 150 gold each, and are thanked for their efforts. The Feltons 1) If Felton is alive, he leaves with Hans (and McColt, if McColt is alive) and gives the Heroes a half level each. 2) If Felton is dead, he is given a funeral (either hasty if Rebels run, or proper if the Guards won). McColt 1) If McColt is alive, he departs with Hans and Felton (if Felton is alive), and gives the players half a level each. 2) If McColt is dead, he is given a funeral (either hasty if Rebels run, or proper if the Guards won). If you sit out a battle against any one of the Chaos Beasts, you will receive one hundred fifty gold and a half level of experience. To Jess – Skrall is trying to get Dyric killed. One of the dreams that Hoke, Dyric, or Skrall had is a lie. If you attack from a different row than Haldor this entire Quest, you will receive one hundred fifty gold and a half level of experience. The Story of the Little Girl and the Kidnappers (Part 1) Once there was a little girl. And she was very happy. She had a mother and a father, as most little girls have. Her mother smelled nice and looked pretty and baked for her on a daily basis. Her father ran a big business and many men reported to him, and though he seemed stressed a lot of the time, he loved her, and he never brought his business into the house. One day, while her father was working and her mother was out buying goods, six strangers came into the house. The first of the strangers was an Orc in shining armor. He had a sweet voice and talked to the little girl as his other friends entered the house. There was an elven woman with a bow strapped to her back. She chattered away with a short dwarf, who laughed alongside her with a gruff, deep laugh. He carried a staff with him, and light radiated from his small black eyes. An older man followed behind them, who grumbled the whole way, and when he stubbed his toe coming in he nearly broke a table in her dining room out of rage. The last two came in together, bickering; a young black haired woman carrying a staff with a gem at the end, and another human with messy black hair and a sloppy smile. The Orc held the girl’s attention the entire time. And then, once all his friends were in, the dwarf nodded to the old man and the young man and they took out ropes, tied up the girl, and the Orc stuffed a rag in her mouth and slung her over his shoulder and the six strangers took the little girl from her house. The Story of the Little Girl and the Kidnappers (Part 2) The kidnappers and the little girl travelled for a few days. The Orc talked to her the whole time, gibbering nonsense, trying to calm her. He even unstuffed her mouth as a little prize, for being good. The dwarf seemed sorry enough, and told her he was praying to the Gods for guidance, which she didn’t really see as helpful. The elf chattered cheerfully, the old man kicked at rodents in their path, the mopey haired human flicked a coin up and down all day, and the woman walked by silently. The little girl and the kidnappers arrived at a great big castle, where the kidnappers presented her to the King. The King explained to her why she had been taken. Her father ran a group of rebels that had been terrorizing his kingdom, and he had decided to hold her ransom, to try to make him stop. The little girl was confused, she tried to explain to the King that her father was a good man, and that he loved her, and he did not do evil things, but the King would not change his mind and the Orc and old man dragged her away into a holding cell. The Orc promised her he would not let anything happen to her before locking her away. The girl sat in darkness for many days, with one of her kidnappers visiting every day. The dwarf visited, and she begged him to free her, knowing he was a man of the Gods. He told her he could not, but gave her the same promise as the Orc. He told her that he and the elf were going to go meet with her father, to see if he would offer himself up in exchange for her. She told him that she hoped that he did not. The dwarf laughed at her and left. The girl waited. The Story of the Little Girl and the Kidnappers (Part 3) The girl was dragged from her prison one day by the Elf, who was for once silent, and the Orc, who likewise had a closed mouth. They dragged the little girl into the throne room once more, where the King was yelling. “You do not think your father is evil?! See what he did!” he yelled, and the girl looked, and saw the dwarves head on a platter, cut from the rest of his body. “I’ll send him a message right back! I’ll tell him that he can’t do this. I’ll send him your head! Off with her head!” he screamed. The mopey headed man unsheathed a short dagger, but just then, trumpets sounded. The rebels were at the gate. The King and the kidnappers ran out of the room, all but the Elf and the mopey haired man. The Elf looked quite sad, and turned to the mopey haired man and asked him to kill the little girl for getting the dwarf killed. The mopey haired man said “happily” and approached the little girl. The little girl wriggled free of her bonds and ran, away from the throne room. The Elf and man followed. She ran towards the battle, but she saw that the old man was staggering towards her, hand on his side, blood gushing past it. She turned and ran in another direction, up flights of steps, until she reached the roof of the castle, and still she ran, her two assailants in pursuit. The elf, being faster, caught up with the girl first, and lunged at her, but lost her footing and tumbled over the edge of the castle. The girl watched horrified as the Elf hit the ground. Suddenly a hand was on the girl’s shoulder, and she spun around to see the gruesome face of the man with mopey hair. She cried out as he plunged the knife into her chest, but before he could even wretch it free, he caught fire, and started to flail. He fell forward, past her and met the same fate as the Elf before him. The little girl hit the ground, nearly dead, as the woman with black hair walked up to her. The woman whispered in her ear. “I could save you, but I can’t. I’m sorry. It’s the way of the world.” The woman then grabbed the dagger, twisted it, and ended the girl’s short life. She tossed the girl down to the battlefield, where she landed before her father. The fight went out of him, the rebels surrendered, and no more lives were lost that day. The Orc, woman with black hair, and old man all soon left the kingdom. The Story of the Little Girl and the Kidnappers (Epilogue) The King sat on his throne, thinking he was the hero of the day. He had saved his kingdom. But he was wrong. The saving of his kingdom had cost him many men and women’s lives, many whom he did not know and who were not prepared to die. The Father, sitting in a prison cell, thought himself a hero, but he was wrong. He had not given his life for his daughter, and she was now dead. The Orc and old man, sitting in a hall of heroes, told others of their dead companion’s heroism. The dwarf a man of gods massacred, the elf who tried to avenge her fellows death, the mopey haired man who tried to do what he was told, all called heroes by their peers. But they were wrong. The dwarf saw evil and chose not to stop it. The elf let revenge consume her, and the mopey haired man chose evil over good. The old Felton Story-Line -Felton and Hans separate -Wren creates fake Felton -Fake Felton returns to Hans, Felton cannot -Felton Meets McColt, figures out what Wren is doing (drew them in to help the wrong side by planting information) -Heroes arrive DAY 1 – Nothing DAY 2 – Fake Felton (Using Real Felton’s Reputation) breaks into the first factory. DAY 3 – Nothing DAY 4 – Felton charges into battle, sees the heroes, demands them alive DAY 5 – McColt sees Fake Felton with the heroes, is generally confused but trusts Felton, thinking he is leading them into an ambush/later meets real Felton, with the heroes they figure out that there are two Feltons DAY 6

Thothwick and William are both unable to hit their old foe, though his flames lick out and singe them (-3). Mane continues to blaze. William is able to fire a bolt at Claw, but it is weak and only glances off his skin (-5). Isabella slides through the mist, still near invisible, and stabs Leofwena in the back (-([8x2]+10)-4=22). The Lion Knight clings to life, which Galen quickly snuffs out (-2) (2 gold).
