Sandy, I believe you forgot to give Lyren a job class, unless that's on purpose.
-
Yeah, I know we've discussed it before, and if memory serves (it often doesn't) I think Sandy was one of the people who called it unnecessarily complex. I'm glad to see it implemented, though!

I was a little sad when Atramor gave Special Mirror up. I'll never be able to hate him in quite the same way I used to. Broke, what, only two final battles? And I am VERY excited for all the slapstick buddy-buddy comedy I assume is right around the corner in 98.

OoC: Wouldn't be favoritism! Everyone gets different numbers of battles - you guys have already gotten the same numbers in the last three weeks that Boomingham has had in four months! Everyone levels up at different speeds. BUT, that being said, there is no battle at the market, just a market. I personally would not add a battle if you happened to split up JUST to close the level gap, but other QMs might, so it's not bad thinking! The heroes head to the tavern, called the Pale Mermaid. Upon stepping inside, they find it crowded. "It was," says Pigley in something that is, for once, a little better than a drone. "Thank you for remembering." If any of the heroes had ever been to the Pale Mermaid before, they may have been concerned, as the patrons seemed to always remain exactly in the same spots, night after night - surely not healthy for their bodies, drinking that much in such a habitual way. As it is, though, only Pigley and Russel have been there before, and they don't bat an eyelash, because at that very moment someone calls out to them! "Pigley! Russel!" The man comes rushing over. "How are the two of you?" He turns to the heroes and makes a sweeping bow. "Sir Jules Taylor, director, actor, writer. I'm sure you've heard of me. Are you friends of these two? Sir Pigley is one of the finest actors I have ever had the honor of encountering, excluding myself, of course. HA HA HA!" Sir Pigley blushes. "We all have to be good at something."

42 is actually a pretty fantastic quest. It is, however, not one I'd recommend to a starting player. Both that quest and Badger Badger Badger stand out for incredibly distinct styles and voices, and I love both of them, but they don't gel with the rest of the quests and world as well. It's not a bad thing, but it's not a great way to get introduced to the world. That being said, I don't think more stylistically different and adventurous quests couldn't be seen. I do wish, personally, there were more whimsical fantasy. The market of 42, the tree with the dirt... those are beautiful and more "fairy tale" esque than a lot of the "gritty fantasy" we get in this game. 57 was another beautiful example of it, so we know you're good at it. I think that you can examine a world from both of those lenses, and offering both will give a bigger picture of the world, so I'd love to see more of that. I don't have a flair for it myself, but it's certainly something you're good at, and I hope you do indeed get around to hosting more soon! EDIT: I think that the quest I have linked to by far the most in 102 is the quest that I am least proud of. Such is life.

I know we "had the option". It was only you who took the option away from me, it was Karie and Arthur too. I'm just teasing. Though I do personally believe that Masson has always been portrayed as "too good" since then. But I think that's just personal story telling taste. Which is a different conversation.

Yeah, so it wasn't really a boss fight, it was rail-roading. There was no real choice to beat him.

"If it doesn't matter to anyone else, I'm always in favor of a tavern. Started our day in one, may as well end our day in one." XX says. He then turns to the Hell Horses and clicks with his mouth - a sound that Matthias and Nerwen understand as "return". The horses whinney one final time and then turn back to Eubric. "Sorry all, part of my deal. They were a one way trip."

OoC: Earlier today, while I was thinking, I realized that a Hel Horse in Heroica would not be associated with fire but rather with ice, as our version of "Hel" is Ice. So I guess that they were named ironically. "Like I said, someone owed me a favor. Everyman may be a scoundrel, but he's a Hel of a friend, and his friends often become friends with each other thanks to him. He generally picks good friends too... myself being a prime example." The horse snorts fire. "I do not ask questions. My job is to run. Hell Horses serve one purpose only, and we serve it with pride." The heroes arrive in Bric'Lin just as the sun is setting. They glance around, but have a hard time finding a mansion - it could take hours of searching. "I think that Bric'Lin has both a Market and an Inn. We could try asking around at either place, I'm sure Chauncey is well known in the town. We could split up, or stay together. I don't think it matters either way - the town isn't likely to be violent, and even if it is, we're more than adapt at dealing with it."

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"For a working in a place like this, you're awfully prudish about where people get down to business." Boomingham sighs, and tries to speak diplomatically, while keeping his hand on the hilt. "Look, boy, you seem nice enough. I don't want to get in your way, so I'll let you do your job. We won't canoodle in the supply closet if you let me and my lady friend be on our way to one of the rooms here. Sound acceptable?" -
Just caught up in the Hall thread. I love Guts trying to bait/tease Hoke, and Hoke not having any of it! Very fitting for both characters. Guts is so immature in the best of ways - it's so fitting that he is probably the most powerful hero we have. I think I sometimes have a hard time thinking of a more incredibly flawed but still somehow (maybe) likable character. EDIT: Sandy, lovely demands in 93, too.

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
Boomingham stands his face drawn tight, and his hand on his sword's hilt. "I was told this was a place for privacy. I was hoping to get some." -
Ninja'd by Brickdoctor. They are indeed a specific race from the Dark Lands! Luckily your goal in the game is not to impress Scuba. My answer would be to play however you find most fun, as long as it doesn't actively prevent anyone else from having fun. Pie, speaking of wonderful side characters, have you ever learned how Atramor got connected to his demonic chicken pal? I was also going to suggest 58, which is a stand-out quest in all ways!

"Sooner than you know it we will only have five days, and then four, and then three, and then none," says the sad pig, and he looks down at the ground. "Time just flies." The heroes hear the clipping and clopping of horses' hooves. They look over, and see XX leading six of the finest horses they've ever seen. "Don't know exactly how the pig and crab ride, but I was figuring they'd share." One of the horses snorts, and fire erupts from it's nostrils! "These are Hell Horses. They'll get us there by sunset." The heroes mount up, and after a series of physical gags that aren't really that funny when written out, but trust me, they are funny in a sort of "had to be there" way, Pigley and Russel manage to get on their horse. The heroes set out for Bric'Lin. OoC: A legitimate update is on it's way tomorrow! Sorry, I'm still a little strapped for time, but it will be less than 24 hours now! I unexpectedly got invited to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart today, and it was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up!

OoC: You're right about the gold, I don't know if I've hosted a rogue since the nerd (only their advanced classes) so I think I forgot about it. He'll keep the gold this time, but I'll fix it in the future! "Thank you! If you ever want help mastering the sword, don't be afraid to ask! I've trained heroes before!" "Me to!" exclaims Morrison, apparently glad he's not the only one seeing things. "I actually did recognize one of the ruffians too. They call him Strong-Chested Bors. I've only ever seen him on wanted posters before." "One of those women was the Armored Reaper as well, a mercenary. I didn't recognize any of the others. Neither of them work out of Eubric, I can tell you that much." "Glad someone noticed," he says with a grin as he catches the venom and pockets it. "Thanks. And sure, I'll track him down. That flying woman may not leave many footsteps, but the rest of them will have to." "Tell her thank you, and that if I hadn't already bought her that wine, I'd offer to buy her one!" "We wouldn't be particularly good members of the Watch if we went off with you heroes. That's exactly why we exist in addition to you. We have to watch Eubric," he says with a chuckle. "I'm afraid my answer is the same. Masson would flay me alive if he heard I abandoned my post, and I'm sure he'd hear about it." Crowley looks covertly at the bar tender. OoC: I'll fix it in the updated stats. ALSO, in concerns to XX and his barrage/other skills - I've read up on Cannonner, and I can see the complications. I, however, don't want to make him TOO powerful, and using the XXX or even XX with no penalty doesn't seem right either. SO, this is my ruling - the bombs will still blow back with their force, but it will not take into account the rest of the calculations. In theory, for example, if XX and fire bomb and fire bomb were selected for barrage, the party would take 10 damage only, without considering his WP. I hope that clears things up, still puts you in danger, but doesn't make you terrified! "Thanks, Nerwen. I swear on all your Gods I will try my very hardest to not make you a pile of ashes. Now, if we're done here." The heroes bid adieu to the assorted patrons of the Albatross and follow XX as he winds his way through the Hovels, out of the Hovels, and to the edge of town. There he stops. "Too much traffic," he proclaims. "I can't tell which trail belong to them." "Oh! Wait!" the crab hops up and down triumphantly. "I remember something! Lord Chauncey lives in Bric'Lin. It may not be where the duel is, but we may be able to at least find clues at him manor." "But of course leaving at noon we'd be stopping for the night time." Nerwen or Matthias translates to message to the group, including Pigley's sadness. "You've just been riding slow horses. Give me a few minutes. One of Everyman's friends owes me a favor. We'll get there by nightfall." XX disappears back into the city, leaving the heroes to talk among themselves for a few minutes.

77 had a bar fight as well. So to answer your question, yes they've been done, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be done again!

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: I should have gained 10 gold. "That paralyzing venom ought to go to Atramor, but until then, you hold onto it. Might I also trouble you, dearest, for one of your Phoenix Essences? I haven't got one of my own, and there's more security if I've got one as well. I'll repay you for it when all is said and done. But then, yes, as you said, forward." -
Ah, well, I actually ended the battle either way (in an edit), but my incorrect way netted you an extra venom, so I'll keep it!
-
OoC: Again, will be busy tomorrow - I've been trying my best to keep on top of this with the extended family in town, but I know updates have not been as fast as they might otherwise be! Thank you for the patience! I am fitting the rounds in very late at night after long days, so please do watch the stats! Purpearl, I have fixed Evel's health from the last round, nice job! Please also note that, as previously stated, the NPCs will only take suggestions from the heroes. This is not to trip you up, but to remain with their characters. You should, if you pay attention, be able to predict how a character will behave - and, if you talk to them in a sensible way, they may act against their impulses. Finally, I ran Shield as I think it is supposed to now be run, correct me if I'm wrong. Finally finally - since I treated Direwolves summons as if they joined the battle at the end of the round last time (no free hits) I was forced to treat them the same way this time. EDIT: I also totally forgot to add Crowley and the Morrison last round, and no one corrected me on it... so, here, as a favor, let's wrap this thing up! Evel McGuffin Battle Round Two >Nerwen v. Evel - Special Damage (24-16=8 Damage, Afraid and Cursed) Russel Ruffers & Sir Pigley v. Direwolf B - Hit (KO) Russel Ruffers & Sir Pigley v. Direwolf C - Shield (Mug, 25 Gold Stolen, KO) >Matthias - Extraordinaire vs. Direwolf D - Shield (Triple Shot, 15 damage Direwolf D, 30 Damage Evel, 15 Damage Direwolf D, KO'd, Direwolf E to join battle at end of round) >Purpearl does nothing Alexis v. Evel - Special Damage (24 Damage) >XX v. Evel - Critical Hit ((20+[32*2])*2*2*2/2=336, KO) Nerwen and Alexis regain 3 health from Blessed Russel and Matthias work hard to clear a path to Evel, which XX then takes full advantage of, killing the beast. He smiles cockily at the heroes, but for the time being keeps any commentary to himself. A final dire wolf plunges through the tattered door, but Crowley and Morrison, who never quite made it to the fight, are expecting it. Crowley tosses a net over it swiftly, and Morrison skewers it. The dire wolf dies with a whimper. The battle is victorious! "Thanks Crowley. Now, heroes, what the Hel was that all about?!" But the heroes can hardly concentrate! They've lost their charge. Pigley trots out into the street and XX pokes his head out after him. The assailants, whoever they were, are gone from sight. "This will be a black mark on our career," intones Pigley sadly to Nerwen and Matthias and Ruffers. XX, of course, can't understand the oinking, but his opinion of the situation is apparently more optimistic. "Man can't be dead," he remarks to the heroes. He holds up the Blood Oath Medallion. "Said these would zap us if he was, right? Besides, didn't Everyman or someone say that the duel was on the Seventh of the week? This is only the First! Seems to me like we've got more than enough time to catch up with those jokers, especially if they prove as evil as this little doggie over here." Everstien climbs out from under his table and clicks his tongue. The bar tender polishes the counter, apparently un bothered by the blood shed.

OoC: It's a busy weekend for me, folks! My extended family is in town for two graduations (my brother's and cousin's) but I will try my best! I sadly can't run the round right now - will probably be able to do it in about 12 or so hours, which is a little over the 24 hour mark. I'm sorry. I'd unfortunately have to say that yes, the cannon does count as AoE - it's not ideal that it does, but I think that it would count that way, sorry. And it's a copy and paste from Sandy, but I think he probably meant elliptic! "Sure thing," he says with a sloppy grin.

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"You can have as much or as little of the loot as you want, Nyx, makes no difference to me." Boomingham glances down the sewer. "Once we divvy it up, shall we continue? The others are probably worried sick about us by now." -
OoC: Too slow, slow poke. You can still drink the mulled wine - it will count as an action in battle, or you can wait until the end of the battle and have it's effects next round. The Guard and Crowley scurry to join the fight, but will not be able to participate until the end of the next round. Everstien sits calmly in his chair. The bar tender stays behind the counter.
