Daneeka holds his books close to his person, and Heweyrt and Deborah, Hybros and Nyx do the same. Heweyrt reaches forward, and retches the door open... And the darkness, the chaos, spills out. Only Nyx knows what it's like, floating in the realm of Zoot - she has done it once before, a long time ago, with someone very different. And as the darkness surrounds them, the heroes are thrown apart, thrown far and wide, thrown through the chaos. And they see faces, and hear voices. Here is what they see, here is what they hear: --- As Skrall floats through the darkness, mind ahead, body behind, ripped in every which direction, he hears a familiar voice. It drifts up in the back of his mind somehow: "Skrall? What are you doing here?" asks the voice. "This is not the place for you." A pause. "But I never say no to a visit. I miss Olegia. I hope things are going as swell out there as they are in here." And a giggle from the back of his brain. "Oh my dear dear Ogre. It's not so bad in here, is it?" She giggles. "Okay, dear. Felton is right. I'm sure there's much out there for you to still do, to still learn." Her face swims into view, and she taps her nose knowingly. "Just remember that the chaos is everywhere, alright, darling. Have fun out there. Do me proud, alright?" --- Ellaria's brain rebels against the chaos. There has been too much these last few hours, too many realms, too many surprises, too many hopes and dreams. She feels hands crawling over her body, guiding her. She resists them at first, but they are too strong, and she lets them guide her, and she feels as if the pressure is growing less- and then she feels as if she is floating on some great body of water, but that she is on top of it. It is cozy, warm, tight. She feels young again. A baby cries out somewhere. Ellaria's brain sparks. Is that a cry of terror? But no. It is not. It is a happy gurgle. And as she listens the laughter grows closer and closer. Soon it is so close that she is sure all she has to do is reach out her hand, and she will be able to grab it. She raises her hand, but then it is all gone. --- "HELLO. NYX AND XX. YOU HAVE COME TO OPEN ANOTHER DOOR, HAVE YOU?" is the first thing Nyx hears, but perhaps she adds in one of the names on her own. "CHILD OF THE FLAME. WILL YOU NOT SERVE ME? I ASK YOU." "WE ALL ASK YOU," says another voice she recognizes, that of Naamah the greedy widow. "WHO DO YOU SERVE OTHER THAN US? DON'T YOU WANT SOMETHING IN YOUR LIFE, SOME PURPOSE, YOU PITIFUL MORTAL." "HAVE YOU COME TO FEED ME YOUR SOUL?" "SILENCE, MEPHISTO THIS ONE IS NOT YOUR'S." "SHE IS MINE." "OURS." "SHE BE ALL YOURS. SURELY A MORTAL LIKE THIS WILL WANT THE GRANDEST MASTERS! SHE SHOULD BE ALL OF OURS!" "SHE IS MINE." "DON'T YOU WANT SOME PURPOSE? NYX? WHAT ARE YOU?" The voices grow until Nyx can hardly hear them. Then: "Away, foul beasts." Wren giggles. "Sorry, I love calling them foul beasts." She shrugs, and Nyx feels herself shrug too. There is no "self" in the void. "But they'll leave you alone now, dearie. They just see you as a vessel is all. They don't know you like I do. I know you're an independent lady, right?" Wren giggles again. "Remember that time you and a bunch of your friends tried to kill me? Such fun. What have you done since then, Nyx? Vanquished archdeacons, I hear. But there's not much to accomplish, is there? They just seem to keep popping up - and they're always here in the void, always just on the edge. And all the other things we do... I once thought I was accomplishing things too. He he he." Wren grabs Nyx by the hand. "Alright dearest, off you go. Tell XX I say a little hello and that I'm really really sort of sorry about getting Sphinx killed. Okay, best of luck, have fun out there." --- "Child," says a chorus of voices. "You have returned." "Once we lived on Olegia. We were a great race. We lived in the forest and with the earth. But other mortals found us. They thought we were demons. So they sent us here with their great magic of light and darkness and flame." "We have had many years to be angry, many eternities. But we are angry no more. We have been here forever, just as we were on Olegia forever. We have grown to be demons, though we never forget what we were." "And you our child. Now on Olegia again. We do not know why you are there, but you are. Perhaps you can work some good." "Remember, Hybros, we are children of the forest, children of the stone and mud and clay. And we are too now children of the chaos, for this is where we dwell, and we are where we dwell." --- The heroes find themselves in a sewer, standing knee deep in water. Daneeka and Heweyrt stand besides them, and Deborah too. Minoid's scanning eye is blinking idly. All the heroes and all their allies are wide eyed. They all certainly experienced... something, down there. "What a trip," says Heweyrt. He glances up. "Sure hope this is our Eubric." "There is an easy way to find out." Daneeka indicates a ladder near by, and the heroes climb to the surface. They find themselves outside Guffington manor. "How convient. Very considerate." Daneeka pulls out of his pocket 100 gold for each hero. He tosses it to them. "I do not know what answers you all found below the ground, and on realms far beyond our own. I have found many, and these books-" he holds up the book he has in hand, "will surely reveal more with time." He pauses. "Thank you for your assistance, heroes. I believe that battles are won in small steps. And we have made strides towards a truth, whatever it may be." "Right-o, thanks a bunch heroes. Deborah, Minoid, with me." And with a sweep of his cape, Heweyrt turns around and begins to march down the streets. He calls over his shoulder. "We'll get you this book on religions soon, Daneeka. You know where I'm staying." Deborah stiffly bows to the heroes, but her eyes are still wide... whatever she saw in the void shook her severely, apparently. The Minoid follows behind them. And the heroes are left with Daneeka. "If you need those books translated, Nyx, Hybros, please bring them to me at the manor. I must go collect the remnants of our drill from the gnomish colony and thank them for their cooperation. I thank you again, heroes. You may now return to your hall. I hope you find that some of your questions were answered." Perhaps some of them were, though there are many left. I'm a film student, but it's still pretty intensive! We shoot on weekends, but usually at least 12 hours a day and sometimes we have to drive to set (drove for 8 hours today). Also (posting from my phone) it appears I was incorrect about the wifi situation - there is no wifi, so the quests I'm hosting are on pause until Sunday evening (unless I track down wifi tomorrow, which appears to be a possibility, but no promises).
