Heroica RPG - Quest#2: Looking Through the Wares
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Items are used on their specified turn, so if the battle is over before the user's turn comes, the item will not be used. The blinded Eric still gets a turn, he just cannot hit any of the enemies with his weapon. -
Results of Round One of the Battle Ant Battle: Christopher vs. Battle Ant A - Special Damage Thrain vs. Battle Ant A - Shield >Bartholomew vs. Battle Ant A - Shield Jess vs. Battle Ant A - Critical Hit Tesni vs. Battle Ant C - Shield >Tomas vs. Battle Ant C - Hit The battle begins. Right off the bat, the first Battle Ant bombards the party, causing 4 damage to everyone else but the knights, whose shields halve the damage. Thrain takes the Sentinel-position to keep the possible next turn safer. Bartholomew does a Tripleshot, causing 8 damage to each of the three ants. Jess scores a critical hit on the first Battle Ant, taking it out of the battle. Tesni goes on a Frenzy, attacking both remaining ants for 9 damage, and thus ending the battle. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! THE FIELD IS SAVED! All party members gain a level of experience. The enemies drop three Fire Bombs. Heroica RPG - Quest#2: Looking Through the Wares

The party is reminded that the only way they all can flee is if Alexis uses her Smoke Bomb. Otherwise Atramor and Hybros can attempt to flee, but that will not save the rest of the party from getting arrested. It will prevent the quest from failing, though. -
The rules have been updated with a page about the most common battle effects. I hope the future Quest Masters will find this helpful in planning for wicked Special Skills for their monsters.
-
The party notices that the Battle Ants are somewhat weaker than what they looked like at first glance. This means the Dread Hat will protect Bartholomew from their direct attacks, but Bombard will still hit him along with the others.
-
Duh, I totally forgot about that incident! But yes, you are absolutely right, I apologize. I'll restore that one ether to you right away. FYI, I'm going to chance the Clerics' "Spirit Guard" description after these quests so that it will only protect the cleric from special effects (like poison, sleep, blind), not all special skills. It saves the hosts from many confusing situations concerning the special skills.

The party's bug catching operation proves to be highly successful, as the second haystack unveils the last Battle Ant. The Fire Bombs were on the three untouched stacks, but the party does not have time to think about them now. They need to defeat the three ants in four rounds, or the field will be ruined and the whole quest will fail. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! Enemies: Battle Ant A Type: Vermin Level: 4 Health: 17/17 Special: Bombard – Causes 4 damage to all opponents regardless of the row they stand in. All of you, choose your targets and the row you want to fight in. Also mention if you want to try to flee, heal or cast a magic spell, or if you want to use an item instead of attacking. Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone have acted. Note that the battle may not last more than four rounds, or the field will be ruined.

Boss battles have that kind of an effect on players, usually. I thought one of the quests would be over by now, but it looks like they will all end approximately at the same time, since everyone has reached the final battle in their respective quest.

With the group all healed up and fit for battle, the six heroes return upstairs and unlock the Master Bedroom's door with the key they got from Chesterine. The eerie purple light fills the entire room. Basking in the light is an enormous canopy bed with four twisted pillars and a demonic face. The bed growls at them in agony. "Grrrahhh!!! This madness... must END!" The voice belongs to none other than Archmagistrum Zed. With a tantalizing howl, the bed attacks the party. However, the four posts protect the bed from gaining damage, so the party must get rid of them first. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! Enemies: Zed the Bed Type: Demon, Mechanic Level: 6 Health: 30/30 (cannot be damaged until the four posters have been defeated) Special: Deep Sleep – makes the target fall fast asleep, forcing it to missing its turn until woken up by a roll of 1 or 2, or until the effect is remedied. The librarian is thrilled to receive a letter from Sir Christopher, and promptly responds to it. Dear Christopher, Thank you for your letter! I'm afraid the multitude of nations in this world we live in are too numerous to recount in this letter. I am certain you will learn more of our world as you travel through it in your quests. As for your other question, I am glad to have a more satisfying answer. The Order of Paladins hails from the lost kingdom of Ennon. The cleric-knights were the backbone of the kingdom before the Orcish Invasion, as they worshipped the god Ennoc, who is also known as the Righteous Light and the Heavenly Justice, and in whose name the kingdom was founded over a thousand years ago. The Paladins are said to be protected by angels, who are Ennoc's children by most accounts. When Ennon fell, some of the surviving paladins brought their order and their faith to Eubric Freeport. It is rumoured that the order will accept knights and clerics of a certain level of experience into their ranks, so if you work hard, you have a good chance to one day step into the light of Ennoc and become one of them. I am thoroughly glad to share the knowledge of this library with you. When you return to the city, why not pay me a visit? Yours sincerely, ~Byblos

The party looks into the fifth haystack, and finds a second Battle Ant. Now they only have to find the last one and defeat them in battle in order to save the field. Which haystack will the party search next? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
-
Yes, you have my permission to decrease your ether by one, as you should have 8/9 ether, not full value.
-
The sixth haystack reveals a Grand Tonic. The party is on a lucky streak. 1 x Grand Tonic - Restores 15 ether to the target. Which stack is next? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
-
The ninth haystack is revealed to contain a much sought-after Phoenix Essence. The Party Leader will need to decide on who gets this item as well. The party is reminded that items cannot be traded during battles without spending a turn. 1 x Phoenix Essence - Revives a fallen ally with full health during a battle. What is the next stack up for inspection? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Byblos asks Elgar to return to the library, as he has found more information about the six original Veterans, who founded the organization of Heroica. ~The first post has been updated with information about the Veterans!~

The party searches through the haystack number 8, and find the first Battle Ant. The monstrous bug hisses at them, but stays immobile. Which stack will the party search next? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

The old farmer lead the party to the final field, which contained nine haystacks. The sun was setting, and the group of heroes was weary of the long day's events. But they knew they had to succeed in saving this field, or the promised reward would slip through their fingers. "Alright, this is your last chance. As I said, three Battle Ants are hiding in three of these nine haystacks. You must locate them all, but beware the Fire Bombs that those devious ants have hidden in three other stacks - if you search the stack with a bomb, it will burst into flames. Needless to say, if all three bombs ignite, the field is ruined. Yup, those ants are masters in setting traps. I don't know what the remaining three stacks contain, though. Of course, I can't say which stacks the ants are hiding in, but I do know they will not attack you until you've found all three." "Now, which stack will you search first?" 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

I'll look into it. Little mistakes like this happen all the time because I have the stats of 18 players to look after, so it's totally alright to notify me of them. In fact, it's to your and your party's best interest. Edit: Ah, I found out why you're missing one ether. A Tonic only replenishes 5 ether, so when you had 1/7 ether and used a Tonic, you then had 6/7 ether.

Byblos carries a large scroll and a ladder to one of the walls of the library, and starts to hang the scroll onto the wall. The scroll contains a detailed map of Eubric Freeport with all of it's most important locations. "There, that should help our brave heroes get around the city more easily", the Metasimian says to himself, pleased of his accomplishment.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Sandy replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great to see the full roster finally! I have to say that this is definitely my favorite series out of them all. The genie, the minotaur, the leprechaun, the spacewoman, the pyjama boy, the statue of liberty (which I hope will be sand green in the final version), the highlander, the legionnaire, the skater girl, even the flamenco dancer... Such wonderful concepts! I just love them all! I'm glad they're taking a break from the sports figs, the previous series had way too many of them in my opinion. If you count the toy robot, there's actually three sci-fi figs in the series - the alien, the spacewoman and the robot. -

The old farmer shakes his head in disappointment. "That's the second field you ruined, even though I admit you navigated the maze like you've lived there your entire life. But, like I said, I'll be satisfied if just three out of the five fields are saved, so you've got one more chance. Do not let me down." 1. Sheep Meadow ~ RUINED! 2. Corn Maze ~ RUINED! 3. Haystacks ~ You must search through nine haystacks to find three Battle Ants. The ants have also hidden three Fire Bombs into the haystacks that will go off if the stack is searched. The ants must be found before the three bombs, or the field is ruined. 4. Apple Orchard ~ SAVED! 5. Pumpkin Patch ~ SAVED!

The chest makes a flip in the air, opens up and transforms into the Minor Occultess Chesterine, who is holding a key. "You solved it... Good for you... Salmanda, how I wish to go there... Here is the key... I really hope father does not kill you... Like he killed our mother... Poor grandmother... I think she might be dead as well... I'm hungry..." The female wizard hands over the key to the party and leaves for the kitchen. The party now has access to the Master Bedroom. Is the party prepared to face whatever lies there?
