  1. The mages return three of the gems to the family of wizards, and leave them to plan how they will save Grand Wizardine Zelda from the clutches of the mysterious "Abraxas". Schuester escorts the party out. The reptilian butler waves goodbye to the heroes, wishing they would one day return to rid the house of the curse once and for all. THE QUEST IS SUCCESSFUL! 2. I earlier edited the after-battle post to emphasize how she was left unconscious. You will hear from her again, I assure you. Please don't refer to me as god. It's not good for my ego.
  3. High Conjurator Altair crosses his arms. "I appreciate your courteousness to each other, but could you please state clearly what will happen to the gems. All these may I pleases and if nobody mindses are not helping you to reach a decision. Each mage should state what gem they will keep, and who they will give another gem to, and which gem they will return to us. If Bacari wants to give up his gem, please do so after leaving our manor."
  4. Lorcan laughs. "I am interested in anything that would make the Shadeaux look bad. Do you mean to say you stole something from the warehouse? I don't care, as long as you don't go around claiming my family put you to it. This was merely a reconnaisance mission, nothing more."
  5. Congratulations, Tanma, with your rogue character Dek'ra you are the 50th player to officially join Heroica RPG! I can't believe there are so many of us already!
  6. The librarian shakes his head. "Unfortunately I've already written down most everything I know about her for you to see. I may add that her great-great-grandson is the current head of the Hinckwell House, and it is said that her miraculous luck runs down the bloodline."
  7. Sorry, as original as your idea is, playing a sentient animal (certainly not one as small as a bat) just doesn't work for this game. Where would the bat carry all the items, anyway? As Dannylonglegs suggested, you are free to play as someone accompanied by a bat. There's already a chicken and a dog accompanying two of the heroes, so nobody would look twice at a bat sitting on someone's shoulder.
  8. Lorcan Hinckwell nods. "As is expected. While you were on your mission, I received news of a new pirate captain raiding the waters. He calls himself Jolly Roger, and we have reason to believe he is responsible for our lost cargo. The Bonapartes will undoubtedly make quick work of his misdeeds, like they have done to all aspiring pirates so far. Anyway, I apologize for sending you to a fool's errand, but I am curious to hear if you found anything else of interest from the warehouse. You will naturally receive your reward even though you did not find our crates."
  9. The battle was over, and the demonic bed transformed back to Archmagistrum Zed Ziegfried. The purple light still lit up the room with its ominous glow. The old wizard staggered as he stood up. Tears rolled down his cheeks. "I... don't know what to say..." Then the rest of the family suddenly burst in. "Tell me it isn't true, father!" Altair shouted. "Where you responsible for mother's death, like Chesterine claims?" his brother said, glenching his hands into fists. "What did you do to poor Zelda?" Beth demanded. "Did you really cause Chesterine's disability?" Mabel asked. "I like that chair", Chesterine chimed in, pointing at the ornamental chair. The Archmagistrum hung his head down. "I cannot express how sorry I am, but I did not have choice. This house is cursed, and if I didn't do exactly as I was told... No, I cannot say more, or you will all be in danger. It is too late for me, but please, all of you, find a way to end this. My mother Zelda might still be alive. You will find him in the cellars, behind a secret wall that will open up if you utter the word... ABRAXAS." As the word escaped the wizard's lips, vile green flames lit up all over his body. The booming voice spoke from the fireplace again. "DAMNED BE YOU WHO SERVED ME SO LOYALLY ALL THESE YEARS! YOU WILL DIE, BUT THE CURSE WILL NOT. THIS HOUSE IS MINE THROUGH THE CONTRACT WE MADE! I JUST NEED tO FIND A NEW FEEDER!" The other wizards tried to help the burning Zed, but the enchanted flames quickly consumed him. The eerie purple light vanished at the same time. "It cannot be..." Altair said shaking his head. Everyone just stared at the charred corpse of Zed for a while, then in a common agreement they left the room. The party followed the wizard family downstairs. Back at the parlour, the wizards gathered to discuss the matter. Altair turned to the party. "We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us out, but we will take it from here. This is a family matter, and we cannot risk you getting harmed by someone as powerful as Abraxas because of us. So please, just accept our reward and return to your everyday lives, won't you?" "We will call you if we need your help again, as you six have earned our family's respect. Here is the 900 gold promised, and you know what to do with the gems I gave you, right?" The three mages in the party can keep one of the gems that they got from Altair, but they have to give one gem to a non-mage companion, and give one gem back to the Ziegfrieds. How will the gems be divided?
  10. After dealing out the spoils of the battle gotten from the unconscious Umbra Shadeaux and the three dead hounds, the party heard the Shadeaux guards rushing to the office that lay beyond the backdoor. It sounded like there were at least a dozen of them, so the party decided it would be best to just flee through the door they entered. They ran all the way back across the warehouse and stepped into the street. It was now dark outside, as the night had fallen. The daring heroes made their way back to the alley where Lorcan Hinckwell was waiting for their report. "You certainly took your sweet time", the Hinckwell heir said bluntly. "I'm eager to hear what you have found from the warehouse, so spill it." What will the party tell Lorcan?
  11. A little too powerful at times, but normally the mages won't have such a large array of elements to choose from as they did in Quest #3, since elemental gems are rare and hard to come by. Yes, it is.
  12. I swear it was coincidental! I'd really would've liked to see more challenge and tough spots in the final battles, but the die disagreed with me.
  13. Results of Round Two of the Master Bedroom Battle: Nyx (Light) vs. Zed the Bed - Shield (Wood) Sylph vs. Zed the Bed - Spirit Guard >Bacari vs. Zed the Bed - Hit >Namyrra (Fire) vs. Zed the Bed - Special Damage >Althior (Lightning) vs. Zed the Bed - Hit Cronk is fast asleep - fails to wake up The battle continues, but the leader of the party, Nyx, is getting quite fed up with fighting furniture. Her frustration manifests in a burst of wood-elemental magic that causes 14 damage to Zed. The bed tries to put Sylph to sleep again, but fails. Results of the Round Three of the Umbra Shadeaux Battle: Boomingham vs. Umbra - Hit >Eric vs. Umbra - Miss Atramor vs. Umbra - Critical Hit Hybros vs. Umbra - Hit Rufindel vs. Umbra - Hit >Alexis uses Smoke Bomb The final possible round of the battle begins. Lord Boomingham protects everyone with his Sentinel-position, and then swings his sword at the Shadeaux heiress, razing 9 damage from her. Eric is blinded, and thus misses his attempted attack. Atramor scores a critical hit on Umbra, causing 14 damage and knocking her out. There is one guard hound remaining, and the rest of the party turn their attention to it. Hybros takes care of it, and wins the battle for the party. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! All members of the party get a level of experience. 15. There is no limit, but if you feel like you're carrying too many items, you can always sell some at the Marketplace or give them to other players. You are of course free to just toss away items you don't need and can't sell.
  16. The librarian was pleased to meet the knowledge-thirsty knight who had written him a letter. "I appreciate the more specific questions, but I am still unsure what exactly you wish to know. Dastan Empire is a vast, mountainous country to the north-east, beyond the Crystalline Sea. It is most famous for its dragons and warriors who tame them. Duplovia is the largest city in all of the High Kingdoms, built on seven hills on the banks of River Dubley in ancient times by a race of gigantic people. That race is long gone from the city now, but they left behind many enormous buildings that are said to make you feel like a lilliput. The Mountains of Titaan lie on the eastern edge of the High Kingdoms, and a total of nine dwarven clans inhabit the endless caverns below them." "The Cathedral of Commerce is the temple of Mercutio, the god of merchants and wealth and the most worshipped divinity here in Eubric. The cathedral is the gathering place for businessmen and moneytraders, so you could call it a glorified bank, if you will. The Academy of Enlightenment is naturally the facility where youth of the noble and wealthy go to get educated in this city. The Hanging Gardens are where the fortunate people living on the Sungold Hill spend their freetime, while the Triad Park is the same for common people. Shady business is said to be done at the Triad at nights, so I would not venture there unarmed during the small hours." "The continent that lies to our west is divided into the High Kingdoms in the north and the Low Kingdoms in the south. Further west lies the seemingly endless wastelands." "I hope these answers satisfy you, kind sir."
  17. Of course health and ether returns to normal in between quests (as you are free to rest whenever you want), I just forgot to return them for your party. I've corrected it to the topic, and I will post this question into the FAQ on the first post of this topic. No, not really. A QM shouldn't give out too powerful weapons, though, or the balance of the game will be broken.
  18. The potion clerk Portia shakes her head and wiggles her index finger. "Do I really look like a raggedy mage to you, mister cleric? But for your interest, there is a travelling magic item merchant that sometimes comes to this Marketplace to sell her wares. Just keep checking back and she might appear one day."
  19. The map of the Corn Maze was found later by Old Mack. He drew the route that the party had taken into it, and sent it to the hired heroes at Heroica Hall for keepsake.
  20. Schererazade walks up to the ranger. "Listen sweetie, you might have better luck selling your item at the Marketplace. This place is going to be crowded by quest-hungry heroes any minute now, so your offer might go unnoticed. This is just a suggestion, though."
  21. Results of Round One of the Master Bedroom Battle: >Nyx (Wood) vs. Blue Post - Shield (Fire) >Althior (Water) vs. Red Post - Spell >Namyrra (Earth) vs. Yellow Post - Shield (Ice) Cronk vs. White Post - Special Damage >Bacari vs. White Post - Critical Hit Sylph vs. Zed the Bed - Spirit Guard The ultimate battle against the remaining transformed Ziegfried begins. Nyx does a Magic Burst of fire that causes 14 damage to the Blue and Yellow posts, 28 damage to the White Post, defeating it, and no damage to the Red Post or Zed. Althior's water-spell is very effective against the Red Post, and the 16 damage it causes is enough to take it down. Namyrra also performs a Magic Burst but of the ice-element. It destroys the remaining two posts, and Zed the Bed is now vulnerable to attacks. The bed puts Cronk fast asleep with the Deep Sleep skill. Signor Bacari hits the bed for 11 damage and poisons it at the same. The enchanted bed tries to put Sylph into sleep as well, but his Spirit Guard prevents this. Zed the Bed takes 1 damage from the poisoning. Only one enemy remains. The battle goes on. Enemies: Zed the Bed Type: Demon, Mechanic Level: 6 Health: 18/30 *poisoned* Special: Deep Sleep – makes the target fall fast asleep, forcing it to missing its turn until woken up by a roll of 1 or 2, or until the effect is remedied. 22. ~There are two new quests posted on the Quest Board~ Ellaria Arbour returns to the Heroica Hall once more. During her stay at the city, she has moved from an inn to a rented room in an elderly pharmacist's house. She pays her rent to the old lady by tidying up and keeping the medicine shelves in check. The pharmacist has tried to lure Ellaria to work for her, but something inside Ellaria says it is not what she is meant to do, and she doesn't want to let her landlady by bailing out on her if she finds a quest suitable for her. Walking in, Ellaria sees new quests billed on the Quest Board. Knowing both quests would benefit from a cleric, Ellaria has to make a decision. She ultimately decides to write her name down on Quest#5: Cave Sounds. A little danger feels like what she needs in her life right now.
  23. "Don't tell a farmer how to count chickens!", the old farmer shouts after the party, shaking his fist. But a farmhand runs after them, giving them all the proper amount of gold.
  24. The party returns to the farmhouse, where Old Mack Donauld is already waiting for them. "You saved the fifth field, and banished all the monsters infecting our crops and flocks. That means you lot have earned the reward of 600 gold to share and a bottle of Mead to each of you! I hope that is enough for a thanks to your hard work." The old farmer tips his hat backwards. "Now, there are about fifty farmers on this island, and I've heard most of them have similar problems with monsters, so if you have the time..." The party sees it best to bow out at this moment, and return to the city to enjoy their reward. THE QUEST IS SUCCESSFUL!
