  1. You can only trade artifacts to another player, you cannot sell them to the NPC merchants. Sorry.

  3. Looks great! Since this would be your first quest to host, can you please send me some more details of how many battles and other events you're going to include, and if you have some pictures you've prepared for the quest, seeing a few of them would be great as well.
  4. Ellaria checks the surroundings for something that can help them pull up the girl. "Hold on, Ameli! Your father sent us to come and get you."
  5. "I am so sorry that we lost your brother, Oliveri, but I assure you we will get your sister and return you two to your father. I'm sure the Maa'ri will not harm your brother, either. Alright guys, let's move out!" Ellaria giggled by herself as she realized she was using military terms. Quite the warrior she'd become... "Oh, and I reckon we all get 10 gold from that battle, Tesni?"
  6. They always succeed, but it costs 1 ether to cast the spell. You do know that bedrolls recover full health and ether when used?
  7. "Let's not be distracted. We can always follow the rogue to their camp and retrieve Oliveri's little brother. Now let's just get this battle over and done with." Ellaria focuses her two close-ranged attacks on the Maa'ri Warrior.
  8. You did a great job hosting, WBD! Your quest was very imaginative, and it built up Eubric further. I really appreciate that you took this opportunity to get even better at hosting in the future, and I think we all can learn from your tips. 1. I agree that OoC-comments do have their place, but I would want them to be included within posts that have in-character text as well. 2. I have to admit that I'm guilty of this same problem as well. I've hosted five quests now, and in only one of them (#6) I had everything built and photographed before the quest began. 3. Definitely a hard thing to do, especially since the party gets progressively stronger constantly. I've noticed that including specials that hit all party members make for the toughest battles. 4. I'm definitely guilty of railroading, too, but on the other hand I appreciate that the quests are compact and on the short-side, so that the players won't get lost or bored. You can always continue the background story in another quest. Thanks again!
  9. Ellaria uses both her turns to attack the Rogue from the front row. "Guys, let's focus all our attacks on the Rogue! We can endure a Free Hit from the warrior if for some reason the rogue does not fall before we've all used our turn."
  10. Byblos was a little taken aback when he saw the naga slither into the library - this was the first time he had seen a member of the species in person, after all - but since the man-snake seemed more interested in learning than eating him in one piece, the Metasimian relaxed. After all, a person who brings him one of the yellow delicacies could not be bad. "So you want to know about dragons? It is a broad subject, since there are countless creatures in our world that could be classified as dragons. Your little friend is but one of them. Some call its kind a Drameleon, as in a hybrid of a dragon and a chameleon, but to my knowledge it is also called a Rainbow Snake due to its changing skin color. But dragons are said to come in every color and size imaginable. Some of them are vile and cunning while some are benevolent and wise, but most of them are just beasts driven by their natural instincts." "The nation most famous for their dragons is of course the north-eastern Dastan Empire. The Dragon Knights of Dastan have become famous throughout the world for their courage and might. After all, what army would not flee at the sight of dragons mounted by armed knights? However, becoming a Dragon Knight is far from easy, as dragons cannot be tamed - they choose whether anyone can mount them or not. Otherwise I have no doubt that the whole world would be under the rule of the Three Emperors of Dastan by now." "Of course Dastan is not the only nation that has dragons. Even the southern Mistlands where I hail from has dragons that hunt silently amidst the eternal fog. I would not be surprised if a dragon or two had made its nest in the cliffs of Uland as well..." "Hope this quenched your thirst for knowledge, sir naga."
  11. I, Semiramis the Sand Queen, have arrived to swear my loyalty to the Guild of Kaliphlin. I lay the wealth of my land at your feet, Sahib Flagg, and add the strength of my company to your army. In return, I wish you will give the remains of my people a new home. See, my land of Azzurat was seized by a horde of demons Thousands of my people died at their hand, our cities crumbled to dust and all our fields and gardens were burned to ashes. Now an undying sandstorm encircles what remains my land, and I have no country to rule anymore. Yes, I am but a queen of sand, accompanied by what scraps I managed to haul together before leaving the once beautiful and verdant Azzurat behind. I beg of you, let me and my people start a new life here with Kaliphlin. {I will add more pictures of Semiramis and her army of exiles as soon as possible. Go Kaliphlin!}
  12. Okay, there's been a lot of discussion in this topic on the last 24 hours, so I'll try my best to answer all the questions. 1) HASTENED-EFFECT It is up to the player and the party leader to decide whether the two turns gained from the hastened-effect are played back-to-back or separately from each other. Both options are fine. 2) ARTEFACTS Since the artefacts are getting more common, I wish a certain extent of realism from those carrying several artefacts. You should equip ONE headgear, ONE cape, ONE pair of shoes (if there's going to be those), ONE pair of gloves etc. Stacking hats on top of each other isn't really playing it fair. Just like you can only equip one weapon at a time, you can only equip one artefact of the same type at a time. But since I want to keep this game simple enough, and there's always going to be artefacts that make an exception to any type of "bodypart slot system" I'd invent (such as the Loaded Die), I'll leave this issue to the player's discretion. 3) SUMMONING As a renown Final Fantasy -fan, I'm very familiar with the concept of summoning spirits to aid in the battle, and those thinking that the Ranger/Mage advanced class has something to do with summoning are actually very correct indeed. And now a personal message to our newest player, Jorgevorg, to whom I can't PM yet: Thanks for participating in my humble little game! Your character is really awesome, and I love reading your posts in the Heroica Hall. They show promise that you'll be a great player once you get into the quests. However, I do have one thing I'd like to note, and it has to do with this post of yours: You are free to expand the world of the game to your liking, but please do not use the existing factions like this. The reason for that is you've completely misunderstood what the Ji Pei are even about. They are not a race or a nation, they are one family that currently resides in Eubric. They already have a country of origin and a background story invented by me, and what you wrote above is in direct conflict with my plans for the family. So please change Ji Pei out of that text and make up a faction of your own. That's all I'm asking. And if you're interested in learning more about the Ji Pei, read this post in the Library topic. They will also be featured in a number of future quests, so that's something to look forward to.
  13. Yay, these guilds look fantastic! I always get excited when cool new things happen in this forum. I think the competitive approach is the right one to take, since we are all smart people here who know it's just for fun. I can't imagine a forum war bursting out of something creative like this. Just a few questions, though: ~ Is it Guilds of Historia or Historica? Because I've seen both being used... ~ Shouldn't the guild topics have a list of all guildmembers and their leaders? Or are you waiting until everyone has posted their avatars? I'm happy that I chose Kaliphlin, but in my opinion the region still needs a dash of mysticism. We can discuss this further in the guild topic, but I hope nobody is against adding genies and golems and mummies into the mix.
  14. Again, just in case you weren't joking, the classes have nothing to do with how your character looks.
  15. Oh, I think it's about time for this: Three more to be revealed...
  16. Byblos had to admit that Drake's book... no, more like a pamphlet... had managed to pique his interest. Especially the passage about the northern pantheon was interesting to read. "Hmm, now the legend of Helvetia's Siege makes much more sense. I have always wondered why the norsemen considered a place named after the death goddess to be sacred... How did the old saying go again?" Death is inevitable to all but those who've sat on Helvetia's Siege. And since the siege - myths tell that it is a gigantic throne made of ice - was hidden somewhere on the unreachable northern glacier, sitting was an epitome for an impossible achievement. It hadn't prevented countless of foolhardy adventurers from trying, though...
  17. For the player characters, the hastened status gives them two turns in one round (both with their individual rolls). In enemies' case, I'd agree with you that it would give the enemy an unpreventable free hit. The negative effects also have slightly different mechanics depending on if they're inflicted on the heroes or on the enemies, so I think we can all accept this to include the positive effects as well. Oh, and Khorne, how nice that your text about the norse gods happened to coincide with a quest I'll be hosting some time in the future.
  18. "Ah, they did not even try to negotiate with us. I should've drank one of these ladles of gumbo sooner, but I'll do it now to give us an edge." Ellaria drinks one ladle of Goblin Gumbo, receiving the hastened status. She decides to use her second turn to attack the Maa'ri Rogue. "Tesni, remember that me and Alexis can both attack twice per round now, so take that into consideration when deciding the battle order."
  19. No, I've decided not to include female figs in plain sloped dresses into this collection.
  20. Bioniclover and everyone else struggling to tell the topics apart from each other, DO NOT POST INTO THE QUEST TOPICS unless you're a player! It's distracting, annoying, and you have no business posting there in any case. If you have a question about the quest, ask it here. What a wonderful character! He has now been added to the Gallery of Heroes in the first post of the Heroica Hall topic. Oh, and all the players who have recently finished a quest should also check out the Gallery to see a list of their achievements.
  21. Byblos was getting anxious with all these people barging into his den of wisdom all of a sudden. He had already grown accustomed to the library being silent and devoid of life. And now, standing right there in front of him, was someone he never expected to see again, or at least never wanted to. But fate had apparently chosen not to be so kind to him. Ezekiel Drake. The bane of his existence. When Byblos first joined Heroica, he had signed onto a quest with Drake and Adeline - his first and very last quest. Afterwards, the Metasimian decided that the peace and quiet of the library was all the adventure he would ever yearn. As much as he wanted to send the man away, he just could not resist learning more about the Land of Chill. There were very few written documents about the cold barren lands, after all. "Fine, give me your book then and leave. I can't imagine it having very many pages, not with your attention span. And I can't even bear to think of all the grammar mistakes..."
  22. Ellaria listened the orc's tale, but something just seemed off with it. She and the rest of the party huddled together to negotiate their tactics. "Perhaps we should ask them to post a quest pitch to Heroica Hall? I'm sure our organization would have many interested and capable adventurers to go and rescue their relatives from these Ennonians. In any case, I think we can avoid a battle if we just play our cards right here."
  23. "Oh my, Haldor... As a cleric you should know better than to carry around divine artefacts. Deities are not like us mortals, they defy logic and reason, and their blessings are untrustworthy - especially if you don't have faith in the deity whose artefact you possess. I have not heard of this Grishnak before, but for all our sakes please keep that artefact hidden until we get back to our own size." Ellaria utters a silent prayer to Silvania to fend off the raging power that resides within Haldor. The goddess had been with them on this quest so far, but who knows if she would get jealous about the involvement of another deity and abandon them? But realizing that worrying about such matters was futile, the female cleric decided to leave godly business to the gods, and carry on with her task.
  24. It will cause normal damage to aquatic monsters, since the effects of the two elements nullify each other.
  25. 1. The rules can and will still change from what they are now, so the PDF-file would have to be updated each time as well. So I'm not going to make that effort, at least not now. 2. I don't think anybody can make a map of the world in that scale, but if someone wants to build the map in LEGO, be my guest. 3. I'm actually doing that for Quest#15. The only thing that worries me is having to photograph the dungeon map over and over again as the party makes progress. I might just use some Photoshop effects to black out the parts where the party hasn't been yet, though. 4. Some players have already included Classic Castle factions as part of their character's background stories, but in my opinion everyone should rather use their own imagination at least to a certain extent when filling the blanks in this game world.
