This is exactly the kind of a situation I wanted to avoid by making the rules simple. Here's my jurisdiction: This specific weapon does not contain a garnet, but in the future it is forbidden to create weapons with ubiquous elemental effects like that. Either the weapon is elemental (ie. it contains a gem) or it isn't. Case closed!

Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Alexis dismissed the dark spirit and summoned Ocven instead, at the cost of one ether. The party and Violetta hopped on the back of the icy dragon, and Althior put his complex escape maneuver into motion. He threw a Smoke Bomb at the guards below in an attempt to distract them, while sending Finnegan off to lead the guards astray. The smoke from bomb filled the street below, making the guards cough and gag. A few bolts flew through the smoke towards the escaping party, but they were so poorly aimed that none of them found their targets. The cool night breeze tussled the hair and the clothes of the party as they flew across the city. Most of the houses were dark, but the lanterns on the streets and the lights of the countless bars and brothels illuminated the party's way. They soon saw the Hovels ahead: an expansive area of riggety shacks and shambling sheds built side by side and on top of each other. A tall wall surrounded the area, once built in order to contain the poverty and diseases within the slums, but the few gates in the wall were no longer guarded like they used to be. It wouldn't have been any use, anyway, since the wall had crumbled in several places. "Alright, we're here. Let's land into some alley so we're out of sight. I think Patricia is smart enough to deduce where we were headed." At the alley, Violetta walked to the nearest manhole and howled into it. Soon a head of some thug popped up. Violetta told the man to take a message to Ulric that she was being held for ransom. Some time later, the party noticed that they were surrounded by Wolfgang members. All three heroes aimed their weapons at Violetta immediately. A grinning man in a tattered cape emerged from the shadows to speak to them. "Well well, look what the cat dragged in. Champions of Heroica, I presume? I've learned to recognize your kind..." "Spare me the clichés, Donny. These people have agreed to exchange me for some of those items I stole from the houses. Go ask Ulric if he agrees to these terms." "Haha, so you failed miserably. How ironic, considering how much slack you gave me for getting caught that time in the Fishmarket. Oh, how the mighty have fallen..." "Uh, just go already..." Donny disappeared down to the sewers, laughing by himself. He returned surprisingly soon. Maybe Ulric was hiding somewhere close by. "I hear you have brought the entire Town Watch to ransack the Hovels in search of you. They're fast approaching this alley, so we don't have much time. Ulric offers one of the artefacts in exchange for Violetta. That's generous enough, considering the fact that we got you surrounded. But it wouldn't hurt to get a few more friends inside Heroica, methinks." Violetta turns to her captors. "One of the artefacts is yours, that is Ulric's offer. Take it, or just kill me on the spot. There's no way you can go back to the Town Watch to hand me in after your stunt." "Whoa, you certainly value your pride, Violetta! Sorry, but Ulric would not be pleased if I let these twerps execute you in front of my eyes. Champs, I advice that you take the item and run as fast as you can. You're treading on dangerous waters here, putting your nose on Wolfgang business." How does the party respond? They keep the ether, but cannot use it unless the expert class specifically mentions the ability to use scrolls and gems. -
Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Althior spent three ether to weave the drafts in the surrounding air to do his bidding, and lifted Violetta and his two party members silently up to the ceiling, where there was a hatch leading outside. The mage then spent one more ether to conjure a rock spire from the ground below his feet so that he could follow the others, but the ensuing rumble caught the attention of the guards outside. Captain Patricia and her watchmen rushed into the room only to see the party disappear through the hatch into the roof. "Unbelievable! I should never have trusted Heroica on anything!" Patricia huffed, and then turned to bark orders at her men. "After them, you hear?! They're trying to escape along the rooftops!" At the rooftop Alexis spent one ether to summon Skorpios to hold Violetta still. The Wolfgang burglar was still weak from the defeat, so she could not resist the clutch of the dark spirit. "You three would make lousy burglars. Silence is the key in being covert, and all you can think of is causing an earthquake?! I'd like to see you get us out of this mess, especially since you've bound me like this. Evoker, I don't think your scorpion can fly from rooftop to rooftop, can it?" There was a wide gap between the roof of the Ji Pei Palace and the surrounding housetops. Watchmen and the guards of the Ji Pei were starting to gather in the streets below, and it wouldn't be long before they'd manage to climb to the roof as well. What will the party do now? Party: Alexis Fenral (played by Masked Builder) *Party Leader* Level 20 2/3 Evoker *Immune to Fragile* Power: 30 (22 for Flute) Defense: 3 Health: 9/26 Ether: 3/21 Gold: 102 Inventory: Mockthril Longbow (WP:10, ranged), Flute of the Magi (WP:3, asleep-effect), Cat-o'-Nine-Tails (WP:9, damage divided between all enemies, unsuitable), Quickdraw Quiver (permanent hastened-effect), Lieutenant's Helmet (SP:3, protects from fragile) Opal (Ice), Topaz (Lightning), Ruby (Fire), Aquamarine (Water), Amethyst (Darkness), Mead, Tonic, Grand Tonic, Venom, Smoke Bomb, Fire Bomb, Lightning Bomb, Pickaxe, Shovel, Bedroll, Magic Compass, Magnifying Glass, Bone Spirits: Skorpios (Amethyst), Ocven the Ice Dragon (Opal), Shalma the Thunderbird (Topaz), Sarp Zarra (Aquamarine), ? Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Violetta dares to smile a little. "I like your thinking, although I doubt Ulric will just hand you all the heirlooms. There's still the problem of us being surrounded by both watchmen and Ji Pei guards. The only way out without getting caught is up through the ceiling and over the rooftops. Any ideas how to get there? Your magical powers were useful in the battle, maybe they can help you outside of it as well..." -
Perhaps because "Damsel in Distress" is the oldest cliché in the book. But I'm willing to let one of these slip by, there's plenty of strong and potent women in the game to counter one frail princess. Just send me some details over at PM. I'm interested to know where this quest would take place. The Kingdom of Charis where the Shadeaux originate from is inspired by France, for example.

Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"That can be easily arranged - just as long as you don't get the Town Watch involved. You may have been able to beat me, but Ulric is beyond even your league. He's my mentor, so trust me on this. Just take me to the Hovels without the watchmen noticing." -
You need to get it up to the Quest Board first, and the only one that can do that is me. I've PM'ed you about the quest...

Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Although it shames me to say this, Ulric might give up a few of those heirlooms in exchange for my release. I'd have to ask him about it, though. I never stole the heirlooms to make us wealthier, just to mess with the houses." A glint of hope lights up in Violetta's eyes. "Just to whet your appetites, let me tell you about the relics I stole..." FAMILY HEIRLOOMS: ~ The Bonapartes: Medal of Valour (Artefact) – This pendant is awarded to those who show their worth in combat. The wearer gains double experience from battles. ~ The Shadeaux: Libra Signet (Artefact) – This sealing ring bears the secret emblem of the merchant’s guild. The owner can purchase items at half price (rounded up) from any store. ~ The Guild of Invision: Moebius Ring (Artefact) – This ring only has one side, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life. The wearer is automatically revived to full health once per battle. ~ The Hinckwells: Cornucopia (Artefact) – This horn of plenty is said to ensure limitless wealth. Whenever the owner gains gold, the amount will be automatically doubled. ~ The Ziegfrieds: Zirconia – This rare gem blessed by Ethereth reflects all the colours of the rainbow. The owner can cast spells of any element. "Now wouldn't you want to own one of these babies?" -
Heroica RPG - Quest#33: WANTED! Violetta the Cat Burglar
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I have nothing to explain. I did what I did for the greater good of both the Wolfgang and the people of this city. The rotten houses in power are in the verge of chaos, and we're doing our best to push them over the edge." "You're not going to get those artefacts back, not from me. They are in Ulric's possession now, safely locked away at the Wolf's Den. And nobody can get into the Wolf's Den without Ulric's approval. The only heirloom I failed to retrieve was the Ji Pei's. Those blueskins are too clever for their own good..." "Greed will be the death of you..." The cat burglar looks at the heroes tiredly. "If you're not going to kill me, then perhaps you'd be willing to negotiate a trade?" What will the heroes reply? -
Battle system rules have been updated: ~ Levelling up will plateau after the hero hits Level 40. After that s/he will gain 1/5 of a level per battle. ~ At Level 50, the player gets a second character to play as. The only requirements are that the new character is somehow related to the original hero, and starts out at Level 1. ~ The different stages of job classes are now mentioned in the rules.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! I will be leaving to a trip for three weeks in the beginning of July, so I won't be around to micromanage you and tell you off during that time. I'll check things whenever I have access to the internet, but those visits will be very sporadic and unpredictable. I'll be back on the 19th of July. This means that there will be no new quests during that time, so if you want to host a quest in July, send a pitch to me asap, and we'll talk. All current quests can of course continue normally, just as long as there's no unexpected twists in them that would affect the main plot (so nobody gets to burn down Eubric or assassinate the Veterans, you hear?!). My own two quests will both be finished within days, so there's no panic with them. I trust you all take good care of this game during my absence so that it can continue with full power when I get back. Then we can celebrate the first anniversary of this game together. I already have a few ideas on how to properly celebrate the anniversary... Coming up in August: ~ Anniversary Lottery for all active players that awards coveted in-game items for the lucky winners. ~ Training Room will be expanded to include the Expert and Master Job Classes. ~ A new artefact store will open up in the Marketplace. ~ A brand new unlimited battle quest will be added to the game, into which anybody can join at certain interwalls. ~ I will personally host a Ziegfried/Hinckwell quest and a quest that includes big revelations... So you better stick around with the game.

Thanks, guys! The only LEGO I got for my birthday were the ones I bought myself. But there was some good stuff in that lot... No, it means all Heroica players need to give my character gifts, of course.
