Tesni makes a furious hit against the Cheshire Cat, causing 55 damage thanks to her light-elemental blade, and locking herself into a duel with the cat. Alexis casts a spell of darkness at the Dryad, dealing 60 damage. The Bugbear Archer then gets a shot at Alexis, causing 6 damage to the Evoker. Jess uses Smelling Salts on herself, hastening herself. She then tries to attack the Bugbear Healer, but it manages to restore 30 health to its allies instead. The two Green Vipers get free hits on Tesni and Alexis. Tesni remains unscathed, but Alexis loses 2 more health. All enemies remain. 2. No, because that would allow an endless stay at the Fields. There has to be some restrictions even to an "unlimited" quest.
  3. The first battle in the Fields of Glory has barely begun, and I already had to change the rules slightly: The Farm is no longer a Sanctuary. I realized it would make all the other sanctuaries moot, since the party could return at any time to rest there.

Of course, you can see him right there in that family portrait of ours." A large painting of the Shadeaux family was hanging on the wall opposite to the fireplace. It pictured the intimidating Count Shadeaux surrounded by his three children. Nuitan was the only one who smiled in the picture. "What comes to the feud between our family and the Hinckwells, it's been so for as long as I can remember. Me and Nuitan were not even born when my parents and Umbra fled from Charis and arrived here. But you are right, there must be something deeper causing the rift between us and them than just business." "But if that was all you wanted to ask, please return here at the crack of dawn. My brother should be departing then. Just remember that he must not see that you're tailing him - he's surprisingly fast for such a nerdy boy. Please, don't let anything bad happen to him." The party bids farewell to Bellanotte, along with promises of keeping his brother safe. Early in the next morning, the foursome returned to the chateau. Much to their surprise, they saw someone else approaching the house as well: an elderly man in a dark cloak and strange angular hat. They hid in the bushes and watched the old man walk to the door. He raised his hand to knock on it, when it suddenly opened. A startled Nuitan Shadeaux stared at the head of his school. "P-provost Lector! What are you doing here so early on our day off, s-s-sir?" "I am here to see your father. I know he retires to his bed early, and I need to discuss this matter with him personally." "W-what matter might that be, sir?" "Nothing less than your future, Young Master Nuitan. Ever since you started spending time with Young Hinckwell, your exam grades have sunken like a pirate ship at Eubric Bay. I will not tolerate seeing one of my greatest students failing because of bad influence!" "N-no, Provost Lector! P-p-please don't tell my father about me and Ly... I mean Lyren Hinckwell! I will do anything! I will st-st-study harder, I promise!" "Really? Then why are you not studying right now? There are big exams coming next week, you know that. It looks like you'd rather spend your free time on a picnic, judging from your bulging bag." "I'm just going to catch some fresh air, so that my brain will function better. Th-then I can study hard all day long!" The provost gives the boy a long and stern look over his round glasses. "Very well. But if you don't get perfect scores in the upcoming exams - like you used to get - I will talk to your father, and nothing you say then will stop me. Am I making myself clear, Young Master Nuitan?" "C-c-clear as the weather on this beautiful day, sir! Now I gotta go, bye!" Nuitan dashes into a sprint, running straight past the bushes where the party is hiding. He runs down the eastern side of Crescent Hill. Will the party run after him, or go talk to the provost?

  6. Brickdoctor is right, the plains only have farms in them. I myself was thinking of placing Ve'er to the south-west of Eubric, with a new road leading to it along the coastline.
  7. No, they haven't. I added several brand new locations to the map on purpose to pique people's imagination.
  8. The first party to brave the fields of glory was comprised of three battle-hardened women. "Good luck, ma'ams... Ah, but haven't I met the two of you before? You helped me clean out the monsters infesting the farm a year ago, didn'tya? Hoho, things sure have turned topsy-turvy since then, eh? Well, you should have the upper hand at least at the easier locations, then, having encountered many of the monsters before. But beware, like you, they have grown stronger over the year as well. Have fun, and return in one piece!" The gate rolled open and the party stepped into the fields. Old Mack and his assistants watched as they courageously walked towards their first destination, the Apple Orchard. "Oinky-oink? [Do you think we will ever see them again?]" "Bawk bawk! [Not a chance!]" "Baaaaahhh... [i said this was a bad idea to begin with...]" "Come on, guys! Give 'em a chance, at least. If this works out, you'll be the richest farmstock the world has ever seen." QM Note: Please check your statistics and prepare yourselves for the first battle.
  9. Damn, I knew I forgot something... I'll add it in soon. If there's any more towns or villages missing from it, please let me know.
  10. Oh, I almost forgot! Now that the Unlimited Quest is out, I can finally publish this: It's a complete map of Uland and the other Free Islands! It has now been posted on the Library, where you can oggle it to your heart's content.
  11. The Threshold Monsters are one-of-a-kind: once a party beats them, they will be gone forever, and the way to the outer reaches they guarded will be open to everyone. If someone gets the Pitchfork of Domination, it will be replaced by some other item. I've intentionally kept Mythril a very rare and expensive item. The Fields are the first place where it is attainable by anyone, so of course it has to be more expensive than the ones appearing in the quests. Now that's something that could replace the pitchfork once someone gets it.
  12. A person would have to fight 32 consecutive battles within the Fields to gain 500 GP, and there's not even that many locations in there. So if someone wants the Pitchfork, they will really have to work for it.
  13. Bellanotte shakes her head. "I am deeply sorry, I did not even think about getting you disguises. This all came down so suddenly. And no, Nuitan has no allergies. He is unaffected by Le Malheur, just like our sister Umbra." QM Note: Fixed! Please state who gets which scrolls, or if you will let the two decide for themselves.
  14. It took me all weekend, but Quest #43 and the Unlimited Quest are now both up and going. Have fun, guys! And for the gals entering the Fields of Glory, I will post your party information to the next post I make in the topic. The same topic will be used for all future parties as well, so the first post has to remain neutral.
  15. A few hours' ride outside Eubric Freeport, between the plains and the mountains, lies the farm of Old Mack Donauld. In that farm he had a rooster, a pig and a goat, and nowadays a horde of diverse beasts and monsters as well. Old Mack was a true entrepreneur: after his fields were overtaken by the ever-growing masses of monsters, he decided to turn them into a hunting reserve. The overjoyed Veterans of Heroica paid him loads of gold for this ingenious idea - now the champions had a place to properly train and gain experience in-between quests. And here he is, greeting the brave heroes at the yard of his farm: Old Mack Donauld, the Keeper of the Fields of Glory. "Howdy ho, heroes! So, you think you're brave enough to face the trials in my fields? Very well, we will soon find out how far you can reach. In the Fields of Glory, you can fight countless monsters in exchange for experience, items, and materialized glory. My... eh, assistants will fill you on the details." The chosen heroes walk to a ruffly-feathered rooster standing on a fence first. "Cock-a-doodle-doo! [Listen carefully, humans, as I, Judge Rocky the Rooster, explain the manner of conduct of this place!]" LAW OF THE FIELDS OF GLORY: 1. You may only fight in the party that you entered the fields with. If even one of the party members wishes to quit, the entire party will be forced to leave the fields immediately. Likewise, if the entire party falls in a battle, they will have to leave the fields to recover from their injuries. 2. You may advance through the fields along the designated paths from a location to another. You will engage into one battle at each location. The location will remain empty after the battle until you leave the fields. Each location has its own combination of monsters that frequent there. For example, you may find aquatic monsters in places with water, and fiery monsters in dry places. The further you travel in the fields, the more challenging monsters you will encounter, but the items they drop will also improve. 3. Winning battles at the fields will not only give you experience and the occasional item, but you also gain an increasing amount Glory Points (GP). The first battle in the fields will net each party member one GP, the second battle two GP and so forth. You will gain GP even if you personally were knocked out or fled, just as long as the battle was victorious. The GP gain will reset after every visit to the fields, so if you leave and return with another party, your first battle in that group will once again net you only one GP. You can exchange your gained GP for prizes upon leaving the fields. The remaining GP is saved for another visit to the fields so you can get your hands into the best prizes. 4. Aside from the common monsters you encounter in the fields, there are three highly powerful Threshold Monsters blocking entrance to the farther reaches of the fields is always one highly powerful Roaming Monster hiding somewhere in the fields. If a party manages to defeat such a monster, they will gain extra GP and a special title, and open the way to new locations with even harder monsters a new Roaming Monster will appear when the next party enters the fields. 5. There are four Sanctuaries scattered around the fields. There are no monsters in these locations, but heroes with bedrolls may rest to replenish their health and ether there once per Sanctuary per visit. The heroes then continue to the goat guarding the carrots and cabbages (and doing a bad job at that). "Baa baa! Baaaaahh!! [Billy the Goat's the name, and cartography's my game. Unfortunately I ate the edges of this map and conveniently forgot what was in them, but now that the Threshold Monsters have been defeated, I've been able to map out the distant reaches again.]" LOCATIONS: F. At the door they were greeted by a stoic guard who opened it for them without a word. A servant escorted them to a lounge with an eery lighting. A slender woman was standing in front of a fireplace where a ghastly green fire was burning. It gave light, but did not warm the room. The heroes could see their breaths steaming. There were carvings and emblems of bats everywhere - this truly was the house of a family that was proud of their heritage. "Please, come forward", said the young woman in a thin voice, still staring at the fire. "I apologize for the chilliness, but real fire is too much for my eyes. Me and my father share the same condition - Le Malheur, he calls it. It is why I have never seen the sun... Oh, please forgive my somber ramblings. I am Bellanotte, and I am grateful you heeded by call." The girl turned to face the heroes, revealing her pale complexion and deep sad eyes. "My father and my elder sister are working late at the harbour, and my brother is already asleep upstairs, so we can talk freely about the situation. It came to my attention that my twin brother Nuitan has been spending all of his time at the academy with the younger of the Hinckwell boys, Lyren. I myself am homeschooled because of Le Malheur, so I wasn't aware of that until recently, but if I had been, I would have put an end to it. Now it seems too late; Nuitan is already enthralled by that Hinckwell rascal. He's always going on about how 'Ly did this' and 'Ly did that'. If father would find out that this Ly was actually Lyren Hinckwell, he would take Nuitan out of the academy and have him homeschooled with me." "But I don't want Nuitan to suffer like I have. He is just so gullible... In fact, a few days ago I borrowed one of his school books, and a note fell out. Lyren had invited Nuitan to go hiking with him. Tonight Nuitan went to bed very early, and I heard he had visited the kitchens asking for a ham baguette, so I suspect the hiking trip is scheduled for tomorrow. This is where you four come in: I need you to follow the boys wherever they are heading. I don't know what devilish plans the Hinckwells have for my dear brother, but you must make sure my brother does not fall for them. However, remember that Nuitan thinks the world of Lyren, so if you try to separate them by force, you will most likely just scare them off. So please follow them, but don't let them see you until you are absolutely sure Nuitan is about to walk into a Hinckwell trap." "Do you have any more questions about the situation, perhaps?" QM Note: I fixed your stats to meet the new format, and corrected some wrong calculations. Please check I got everything right, nevertheless. Here we go!
  17. I obviously wouldn't sell my artifacts at the Marketplace, but sell them to other players. What would be the point of me cheating in my own game, anyway?
  18. Since Monk Pretzel is the only believer of his own faith, everyone else in the whole Olegaia is a pagan in his eyes.
  19. This question was recently asked by someone else as well, and the answer is yes, the advanced classes can use whatever their two basic classes can. The same goes for the Level 50 master classes, which are based on three (or in the case of Mime, six) basic classes.
  20. Guys, please don't complain that a battle is too hard before you're actually about to lose. In this game it's totally possible to roll Shields all the way through any battle, the odds just need to be with you.
  21. Things don't happen in real time in this game, as you might have noticed. You can go on to your quest if it starts before Quarryman replies to you with no worries - you can easily pretend that the dialogue between your characters simply took place before Pretzel's departure. Mind you that you cannot answer him back if you're already on the quest, though.
  22. Don't assume, check the rules. Wands are suitable for mages only.
  23. At the hall Ellaria had heard news of a new shop opened at the Marketplace. She was interested to see if there was anything there that could potentially help her in a quest. She saw several items of interest, but most of them were out of her price range. It was ages since she had last went on a quest, and all her earnings at the apotechary had gone to providing food for herself and Elpis, so she didn't have much gold to splurge. Suddenly a voice behind her made her jump. It was the shopkeeper, a soft-spoken elf with long golden hair dressed in silk. Oddly enough, the elf also had moustache - fashionably curled, of course. He looked at Ellaria like a hungry beast, with gold gleaming in his almond-shaped eyes. "How can I be of service, Miss Sweetness? I recognize your dresses as those of a druid - and what a fine choice of fabric, I must say! This White Cloak would look absolutely dashing on top of that garment, wouldn't you agree?" "Maybe, but is it useful? As a healer, I'm dependent on my ability to weave ether. I know some monsters out there can seal one's connection to ether. Do you have anything to prevent that?" "Ah, then it is this enchanted scarf you are looking for! I will sell it to you at the greatly reduced price of 40 gold, Miss Sweetness." Unphased by the elf's overflowing compliments, Ellaria took the Mage's Muffler from the merchant and paid the price of 40 gold for it, leaving her with 22 gold. Now she was immune to sealing, so nothing could come in the way of her and her goddess. "Except my own doubts", Ellaria thought bitterly.
