Heroica RPG- Quest #68: A Night at the Theatre
Sandy replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
Ellaria looks at the others. "Are you sure none of you want the ability to talk to animals? It's pretty awesome..." Shrugging her shoulders, Ellaria asks Russel what he knows about the fellow called Chauncey. "A summary of the play would be nice, as well." OoC: Please, can we pretend that Ellaria automatically translates her conversations with Russel to the others, so I don't have to write them out everytime? -
They're genies, so maybe they could be used three times in total, as in the three wishes? I wouldn't mind changing the Jade Lamp to be used only three times, as well, to keep it consistent with the others. I take a photo for each of them separately, open them in Photoshop, then crop them with the help of the marque tool set on a "fixed ratio" of 100x100 pixels, then resizing, brightening and adding a "stroke" of 1 pixel wide from the "layer style" menu. Takes me fifteen seconds.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Battle results will be tallied after I get back from work. "I know you are Heroican, Metasimian. The Wolfgang has eyes and ears everywhere, including closer to Captain Patricia than she could even suspect. If you're in it for the gold, why don't you join us? Our treasury rivals even that of Great Guffington, nowadays." Steerpike then glances at Barbariccia. "Hmmm, I don't think the witch is a Moon Elf, despite her pale demeanor. Hearts aren't the only thing she steals, I've heard..." "Save your temper tantrums to someone who actually gives a damn, little girl." -

Ellaria nods at the crab, eager to put her mind on the task at hand. "[Ah, I see! Thank you, my little friend.]" Ellaria translates the crabs words to her comrades. "So, which one of you would like to have this cowl? It will allow you to speak to Mr. Russel here as well as other animals directly.", she asks diplomatically. "It seems Althior here is prepared to walk", she says to Russel. "Although I could have ridden behind someone, being lithe and lean that I am..." -
Eurobricks rules clearly state that this message board is aimed at members above 18. If a younger person joins, then he or she has agreed that he/she is ready to handle such material. Sorry, it's way past my bedtime already, so I won't be around for that. I'll try to check things in the morning.

Heroica RPG- Quest #68: A Night at the Theatre

Ellaria shakes her head. "Sadly, I've had no such luck... It's been nine months since she disappeared. The same time that I carried her inside me. By Sylvania, if she lives, she's probably learning to walk by now... " Ellaria feels her eyes swelling up once more, but she fights against the tears. "Oh, I'm sorry, Althior. I just miss her so... Please, let us talk of other things." -
Welcome to the game, Tea_Drinker! Your character profile has now been added to the Heroes' Gallery on the first page of the Heroica Hall topic. If I'm not mistaken, your character is the first clearly underaged human to join Heroica, being 12 years old. I guess you can expect a lot of pampering for your character on your upcoming quests.

Ellaria can't help but to blush. And thinking about just how ridiculous it is in this situation makes her blush even more. "Thank you, Tesni. I.. try. After losing Elpis, I've had to find strength within me if I ever hope to find out what happened to her. It's hard, without a single clue to go on by... I can just pray that Sylvania would send me another sign." -
Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner

QM Note: Sorry, Pandy, it takes you one more turn to equip the gloves. "Oh, so you're the leading actor in this grand play? Don't make me laugh, apeman!" Steerpike steps back under Thothwick's scorching glare, but does not bend. "Join Heroica? And betray yet another master? No thank you, I'll take my chances with Ulric and hope that witch will get bored with the dealings of this city quickly and move on." "I've had countless names during my time of existence. Once I was the right hand of King Haeresias of ancient Mercution, known then as Sorceress Ambergaze of Babeleth. Your friend the apeman knows me as Baba, the Witch of Kalakita Bog, but that old hag is gone now, replaced by Barbariccia Dellamore, the Stealer of Hearts. I am here to sow the seeds of a new tomorrow. I do hope you regain your sight soon, little girl, so you can witness it yourself." Haha! Totally forgot the quivers I created MYSELF!

I'm sorry for my absence yesterday, I had a helluva busy day. I only got online time like half an hour... I used the Armoury-topic as a reference when creating the Jade Lamp of Summoning, and I don't remember the descriptions there saying that the lamps were consumable... The Jade Lamp definitely isn't. It's just an expensive but sure way to heal someone, though.

Heroica RPG- Quest #68: A Night at the Theatre

QM Note: Tesni's Bear Gloves give extra WP - its the only artifact known to do so. Good luck trying to remember to take that into account every time she rolls Extra Critical Damage. Ellaria greets her companions merrily. She feels relieved that she knowns all of them well - her last quest with Guts Holla had been more than a bit intimidating. "Tesni, how are you dear? Your arsenal seems to have grown since I last saw you... And Althior, what a dark demeanor! You seem to have switched trades, then? Atters, it's a pleasure to quest with you so soon after our last stint." She then notices the crab at their feet. She switches to animal talk. "Oh! [How are you doing, little fellow? What's that you're holding there? Can I see it?]" -
So it was CMP who invented that rule... Well, I'm not opposed to it. I just would've liked to KNOW about it before this.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Damn, I'm losing my focus here. Of course row affects your counterstrike, but so does encouraged. Counterstrike can be imagined to be a hit with a bare fist, without the effects of the equipped weapon but inluding other effects. And yes, I forgot your lucky roll. -
And nobody asked me anything about it... I guess I'll add it to the FAQ, then.
-
Umm, I don't remember ever making such a ruling. If you can find a post where I'm saying something like that, I will change the battle results. But this is the first time I'm in a situation with a lucky hero attacking a jinxed enemy, as far as I remember...

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Barbariccia guffaws. "How touching! But unless you have studied every line of magic for thousands of years and absorbed the powers of countless witches and mages like I have, you have no chance of defeating me. I have reached the pinnacle of power, now I just have to start putting it to use again." The woman looks past Boomingham to Thothwick. "I remember you, apeman. I should thank you; if you hadn't brough my Bluto to me a year ago, I would probably still be wasting away in that dusty old cabin at the bog. The boy told me all his hopes and dreams, and ignited the passion to affect the world within me for the first time in centuries. With power comes great responsibility, but I had lost interest in carrying it for the longest time. When you're almighty, it gets boring after a while. But now I'm back here in the city I once loved, even though it has changed much over the thousand years since my last stay. I promise to lift Eubric Freeport to a height and glory it has never experienced before! I just need to sow the seeds of change first." "I told you already, I have made my choice a long time ago when I joined Wolfgang. I owe Ulric my life, so I will follow his orders even to my grave." Round Two of the Steerpike Battle: >Boomingham heals Nyx - No Healing/Heal More (Nyx: +46 health) >Thothwick throws a bone to Steerpike - (Steerpike: distracted) >Nyx attempts to wake up - Success (Nyx: asleep removed) Lupus - Free Hit vs. Boomingham (Boomingham: 88 health+12 SP-(24/2=12 dmg)=88 health; Lupus: 583 health-(22x2/2=22 dmg)=561 health) Remus - Free Hit vs. Thothwick (Thothwick: 38 health+10 SP-(24/2=12 dmg)=36 health) Steerpike - Free Hit vs. Nyx (Steerpike: recovers from getting distracted) Nyx - Badly poisoned (-10 dmg) Remus - Bleeding (-5 dmg) Boomingham kneels next to Nyx and restores her to full health. Thothwick throws his only bone at Steerpike, distracting him for a moment. Nyx wakes up from her slumber. Then the werewolves attack, but they are able to cause only minimal damage. The lethal poison continues to work on Nyx, while Remus bleeds slowly but surely. If the target has any of the effects from the Half Moon Venom remaining, then Steerpike will perform Injection instead. No, I just remembered the name of the skill wrong, since it's been so long since I last rolled for a Cleric. I noticed it at one point and went back and edited the correct name for it into the results.

If you mean switching to an artifact that grants immunity to an effect, then yes, that effect would automatically be removed from the wearer.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Technically, yes; Nyx stays in the back row. She gets a chance to recover from her sleep each round, remember. When Steerpike speaks, he has a low and hoarse, almost whispering voice. "You must not interfere. Master Ulric and that witch made a deal, and I don't really like it any more than you do, but what can I do? I'm a follower, not a leader." Barbariccia does not listen to Steerpike, but addresses the crowd. "Children of Eubric, you are mine to command. All will to resist me within you fades, and you will obey my every word. Listen well. You feel aggravated and anxious. When you look around you, you see only hostile faces and scornful looks. You cannot trust anyone. These people want to hurt you and your family. Even your own flesh and blood will turn against you. You are alone and lonely. You..." Interrupting the enchantress, Ambassador Luneth walks to the stage. He seems unaffected by her spell as well. "I know you, Sorceress of Babeleth! Your wily tricks have never worked on me, nor will they now!" "Chancellor Luneth, what a pleasure seeing you here after all these centuries! Time has not been kind to you, I see. So you survived the cataclysm as well?" "How I hoped that the sea had swallowed you along with the Mad King Haeresias. Alas, what would kill the devil?" "Come now, you know the downfall of Mercution was not my doing. If you give Azazot a finger, he will take the whole hand, followed by your body and soul. Haeresis was a fool. I have no such weakness." "You conniving sycophant! I know you whispered to Haeresias's ear and lead him to the Pandemonicon! All you ever sought was power for yourself. Did you really think that once we Moon Elves were gone, you could rule Mercution? The demons would have never accepted a parasite such as you as their queen!" "Ha! You have no idea of the extent of my power. Let me demonstrate!" Barbariccia shoots a beam of energy from her hands at the ancient elf, sending him flying across the stage. Luneth lands with a gruesome crunch, and lays very still. Barbariccia turns back to the crowd. "Direct force rarely leads to satisfying results, but I must admit that I enjoyed that. Now, where were we..." Steerpike lets out a disgusted grunt. "You see now why I have no choice?" -
One of them, yes. Well, if you find a good excuse for the party to leave their post and rush inside, then yes. And Arthur having a "bad feeling about it" isn't a good enough reason. Always remember, player knowledge vs. character knowledge...

That's why I always QUOTE the previous rounds and edit them. I've learned to use the Rich Text Editor without much of a problem, that way.

Total coincidence, I swear! I just thought of stereotypical names for werewolves... But the whole point of this quest is that Steerpike and the Wolfgang thugs are just distractions, minions to a "bigger bad". The tension-building was simply to mislead the players. I hope I was successful in it, and did not foreshadow Baba/Barbariccia too much...
