While I agree the US is the anomaly (as opposed to a high price in Europe). I wouldn't describe it as 'artificial'. A variety of market forces work in the favour of the US consumer, they are not subsidized.

The parts could also come from Legoland or pick a brick (some I recently received were still in a pick a brick bag). Also I would be surprised if those parted out sets were bought at near full retail... Another factor is that many BL sellers are themselves hobbyists after specific pieces and trying to recoup costs, not make a profit.

A C Pin (and son) is active on Lugnet and CC, if you search either you'll see lots of these MOCs posted with building details etc... Far more interesting is the fact that he also builds castle... X-D

BTW the custom displays are normally made by LUGs, you see the announcements on Lugnet fairly frequently. The parts belong to the members and the display is returned.
