Latest Chima Purchases ?

Frax's Phoenix Flyer at Target -
Heh... I can already see them giving Sheldon a very Sheldon dilemma about choosing between two similar Lego Ideas sets to support of a particular science-based set or pop-culture-based set, or even deciding between a science-based set or a pop-culture set (like, say, a Firefly/Serenity set), with Leonard or one of the others saying "Why not support both?" with Sheldon dismissing it thru some silly but perfectly logical (for him) argument... and his anxiety over which set to support leads to one of his strange dreams--in LEGO! Using the models of the actual BBT Lego minifigs, animated in a Lego Movie style. I'd get a kick out of that...

I enjoy the show a lot, but long ago tired of the age-old stereotypical nerd jokes (like in a fairly-recent D&D episode, where Sheldon says "I've never played D&D with girls before" and Penny shoots back "No one has"; kinda demeaning to the legions of women who have played D&D for decades), and I tend to get teeth-grindy when they get nerdy facts wrong (like when Sheldon's WoW account was hacked, and the thief stole his mount; even back when that episodes was made, mounts were bound to the account of the purchaser, and could not be put up for auction; it's even possible that by that point, mounts weren't even physical items in a character's bags, but spells in the Mounts tab of their spell books, and couldn't even be sold to an NPC vendor for a little gold) But those flaws aside, it's still an enjoyable show with fun character dynamics, and something my wife & I enjoy together. Hopefully all 7 of the regulars will get represented, but I'll likely be getting the set no matter how many are in it.

MOC instructions for Dark Forces Moldy Crew ship
Venkefedo replied to DanishLegoLover's topic in LEGO Star Wars
No, but someone might have instructions for "The Moldy Crow" -
Of course it's set 30-something years in the future. Episode VI was released 31 years ago... it's not like Ford, Fisher, and Hamill could pretend to have only aged 5 or 10 years or something, and doing a "Tron: Legacy" CG-de-aging of them would look uber-creepy and is best used in some mystical Force-vision of the past, if used at all, and makeup/prosthetics can only go so far. It's natural to set the film 3 decades or more beyond the original trilogy. Gives us a sense of jumping into the middle of things, sort of, as we won't really know the status quo until the title crawl, and maybe not even then!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Venkefedo replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That crown looks great! Nice to get a change from the one we've had for so long, with hair attached...and a brown Gnome/Santa beard, it seems! More dwarven variety, coming right up! ...now if only they'd find a way to give us a tankard... -
The Force went to sleep when Luke didn't teach anyone new and took himself out of the picture, or so some rumors suggest. Remember, it's been 30-something years... A whole lot of stuff could've happened. The title crawl will explain more, most likely

List of Star Wars sets that are retiring!
Venkefedo replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Conceptually they're kinda neat... They're transformers! In Star Wars! But from a toy standpoint they were a mistake, especially when most of them either didn't transform or only transformed in bland, minimal-effort ways (rotate wings 90 degrees and that's it, like the 2005 version), which is something you wouldn't necessarily expect from the company that also make Transformers. So they were weak transformers and didn't require any action figures to play with... kinda limits the appeal! As for the Lego version, that's why Lego is great: we can fairly easily mod it! Also, the Neimoidian wasn't nearly as bad as Injector; he only hung around for months... but the Vintage Phantom Menace figures are approaching Injector-level (there are STILL Vintage Battle Droids at local Targets and TRUs) -
List of Star Wars sets that are retiring!
Venkefedo replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
My local TRU has SW taking up both sides of an entire aisle. Impressive, since there were hardly any action figures in the mix since Hasbro's distribution is so lame. They did their a lot of SW Lego sets in there, too, to fill it out. Speaking of Hasbro, any fan of the figures knows the Neimoidian Warrior, because he pegwarmed hard back in 2005 (mostly because his articulation was lame compared to many other figures, and he was saddled with a pathetic squeeze-leg action feature and an oversized missile-launching weapon he couldn't even properly hold because of the size and his limited elbow joints). While it's true the character was just a couple extras in the Mustafar scene quickly cut down by Vader, the design was really nice and the Warrior was pretty much the only non-droid Separatist soldier available at the time, which made all his flaws even sadder since nobody wanted to army-build him. The Vulture Droid's Neimoidian suffers none of the Hasbro version's flaws, just a tiny amount of screentime. I'd love to have several instead of dull Battle Droids. The Vulture has a pilot for playability... Hasbro did the same thing. Lucas made a big mistake, IMO, by making so many droid fighters in the PT; no pilot means the toys don't need figures to fly them, which made things tough for Hasbro, and putting different figures in the ships is a big part of the fun with the toys! So eventually Hasbro made them with room for figures. It's fine that Lego did the same; doesn't seem to hurt the design much. -
List of Star Wars sets that are retiring!
Venkefedo replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sets get retired all the time; they may make more V-wings and Vulture Droids, it's just these specific sets that are retiring. The X-wing you saw is a completely different ship; if you would read the comments, you'd see it's a McQuarrie Concept X-wing, recast as a "new" X-wing in the 30-years-after-ROTJ era. Lego will make OT X-wings again someday, but I think the next one we can expect will be the Z-95/concept/EpVII X-wing. -
If you mean the one that's a pile of cylindrical engines staked around a cockpit, I imagine they'll make it. The garage it parks in, tho, probably won't be... tho a version of that garage is up for review on Ideas

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
Venkefedo replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Luiz Battalion; Shami Company; Licho Corporation, LLC. You're welcome! (if you pronounce it "leech-oh", it's an appropriate name for a corporation strip-mining asteroids, moons, etc! ) ...I got nothing for the others, tho... -
At least we can all rest easy knowing it's a better title than "Attack of the Clones" (pfft, lousy clones swooping in for a rescue in the last 20 minutes, barely an 'attack' at all)
-
This kinda came out of left field considering all the conversation's been about the new title & recent rumors, but you're right... I mean, there's a charm to the unaltered versions, but from the start the SEs were mishandled. The Jabba scene didn't need to happen--its absence was already addressed by cutting & pasting Han's "even I get boarded sometimes" audio over a shot of him loosening his blaster in its holster back in the cantina... so now Han repeats himself, verbatim, 5 minutes after he fries poor Greedo, and the scene just gives us a silly intro to Boba--who, whatever their excuse, still looks like he's mugging for the camera--and a horrid gag of Han stepping on a weak CG Jabba's tail. It's just all around bad, and that's not even getting into the Greedo Clones hanging around under the Falcon...Jabba, why are you so concerned about Greedo? You've got a couple backup copies right there with you. Mos Eisley's 'enhancements' were mostly misses for me; too much, too cartoony, and too uneven (a ronto replaces an astromech in the foreground, making the ronto a lot smaller than the one we see a Jawa riding). Fixing the speeder 'hovering', removing matte boxes, that kinda thing was what I expected... and fixing Obi-Wan & Vader's saber blades, especially in the one scene where Obi-Wan's saber basically 'goes out' revealing the spinning rod beneath the light; that was the number one 'broken effect' I expected them to fix back in 1997, and they failed then, and failed again in 2004 and the Blu Ray. All they finally did was add the soft blue glow around the blade, when an intern with an arm tied behind his back could have rotoscoped the bright white core of the blade over the spinning rod in an afternoon. That shot has bugged me since I was little and still didn't understand that lightsabers were supposed to be made of light... because of that broken effect, I thought they extended rods like a collapsible radio antenna, and those extending rods lit up with energy and became the blades, and that Obi-Wan's saber was faulty. I didn't mind them replacing several of the Death Star battle scenes with CG ships; the original model shots were kinda dull & plodding, based on old dogfight footage of fighter planes. The CG added more dynamic motion to the ships, which was a nice help. Anyway... yeah, lots of unnecessary 'fixes', and many things missed that shouldn't have been, but a cleaned-up 'original' version would be nice to see someday.

2 Jawas, 2 Tuskens, brick-built "Legend Beast-style" Bantha, as a battle pack maybe? A 501st TCW or even ROTS BP w/ 4 identical troops & a little blue speeder/transport/walker would be fantastic... which is why we only got 1 501st in the AT-RT set and 1 in the Z-95 set. "Wanna army-build these guys? Buy tons of Yodas and Krells!" I'd love both an Interceptor and a Bomber, but they'd probably space 'em out a couple years apart unless one wound up as a retailer exclusive maybe. More chances for Imperial droids, troopers, and officers in there (I mentioned in the News/Rumors thread somehow getting Admiral Ozzel and Captain Piett, with the new hats and perhaps the new prints--requiring a new one for the Admiral torso--but the old Piett head, so those w/o the Executor can promote Piett with a head-swap, and (if so inclined) can use the mustachioed Ozzel head on the captain body for the EU's Captain Pellaeon!
-
A System TIE Bomber would be about as great as a System TIE Interceptor... both would be even better! Use it as an excuse to include a Admiral Ozzel & Captain Piett figures (reusing the old Piett head, but with the new cap, and that way those of us w/o the SSD can 'promote' him by swapping his head w/ Ozzel's... turning Ozzel into Captain Pellaeon! )

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
Venkefedo replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
She wasn't in the bush all along... she just came home from wherever she'd been hiding (living on the streets maybe, and apparently within fairly-easy walking distance) for the last however-long-it-was, tho it was silly that she went back to her own house and hid in a bush outside, but didn't bat an eye when the bush turned into fireflies & vanished. So, yes, that part was silly, but it wasn't like the plants magically produced her from halfway around the world. -
Would've been nice to get them in dark bley, or metallic silver like regular saber hilts. Kinda disappointed that the astromech is just the same one as in the V-wing set, but I guess it's understandable. Would've been nice if it had a red body & legs with white trim, for variety (and head-swapping potential). Still seems possible to strip the add-on guns/wings/etc away to allow the ship to be a regular Delta-7B ala Plo Koon's, which along with a non-TCW Ventress is the main reason I want the set.
-
Even if they did work something out, that doesn't mean Spidey would be involved in the MCU Civil War. Aside from Cap & Tony finding themselves on opposite sides of government oversight of superheroes, it doesn't seem likely to bear any resemblance to the comic.
-
The plants of WKB match DGB very well, even if the 'structure' looks a little out of place
-
I just want a TIE Interceptor, System-scale (I know someone mentioned you could make a passable one with the most recent TIE itself, but a new one wouldn't hurt, and would--hopefully--give us more fun figures like the last TIE!)
-
I like the Taakin! Very "Legends Beast--Deluxe!" ...and suddenly makes me wanna see a brick-built Legends Beast-style Tauntaun, gigantic tho it'd likely be.
-
I was hoping it'd be something like this when I saw the title
