    The owl features in the last episode of Hawkeye in a Christmas tree - I think it’s a saw-whet owl. That’s a small species, so there’s an outside chance that they give us a new, smaller, owl mould. That would make sense for use in other themes - but who knows? (In theory they should have given us a new mould with the owl that came with Cho Chang CMF but they didn’t) And yes the adult seal is a good size, which is nice to see.

    Nice to see the black cat back. Hope it’s easily available! Apparently an owl and dog coming in the next Marvel CMF wave. Would assume a new print on the owl, and the dog will likely reuse the retriever mould, but may get a new one. Either way, since it’s Lucky the Pizza Dog, it will be the first non-Friends animal with a visible disability, as Lucky has only one eye.

    You’re slacking @Roebuck! They did the same when they introduced the hammerhead, it was the same time that they gave us the shark with gooey green eyes on Hidden side, so they only had to produce one new colour body. Interestingly - the new hammerhead in light bley has a standard eye, without eyebrows. Whoever decides on shark and croc eyes at Lego is all over the place!

    It’s a very blurry image. Has a Santa & ‘Mrs Claus’ up front. There’s a hockey player figure, an ice sculpture being carved by someone with a chainsaw, a girl with a chihuahua dog, another blurry figure that seems to be flying, and a figure that might be a carol singer at the back beside a lamppost. I think there’s an animal beside that one too. in the distance appears to be Santa’s sled on a rooftop. Almost impossible to make out anything there, but there does seem to be a deer-like animal of some sort pulling the sled. so it appears to have seven minifigures, and at least two moulded animals.

    Not traditionally, but things change. Your suggestion is fair, there’s also a possibility it could be brick built. I was thinking the antlers might be a reuse of the new ‘Fern’ piece even. Hope we get some clearer pics soon!

    Nope, other than a horrible Friends one I meant I think it *could* be the existing adult reindeer. It’s a small image and it’s in the background, so really hard to tell. (I don’t think we will get a new animal mould in an Advent calendar, that’s certainly never happened before)

    My money is on a deer. Might well be the existing mould. Now that the catalogue leaked, am guessing we will get better pics soon. The Friends advent calendar is stuffed with animals this year!

    You’re right - I was misremembering the (slightly odd) old horses in the Native American sets from the old Wild West theme as having ‘naked’ faces … but have just checked, and they weren’t! And most of the black horses in circulation have ‘evil’ red eyes :)

    Seems that the new ‘baby’ farm animals are now available on Pick A Brick as unprinted versions … seems slightly odd, but of course we saw ‘plain’ versions of the owls, small bird, parrot, chicken, shepherd etc

    Just gonna get in before @Roebuck and say I think the existing ‘deer’, in Lego, although marketed as either generic or ‘reindeer’, is most like a red deer stag. In popular culture of course ‘reindeer’ is pretty vaguely interpreted. That said, I think we should count the existing one as a red deer (= N American elk) stag, rather than an reindeer/caribou. it doesn’t affect your list totals @lifeinplastic, and on reflection I think you’re right that forest is more likely than savannah-y next year. Stand-alone or precursor sets do of course still happen though, so who knows? I also enjoyed imagining what a Lego hoatzin would look like, and how useful the existing Phoenix would be for one … PS - you still need to update that CMF list in your signature @lifeinplastic 🐨

    Just noticed that the new version of the Great White Shark for 2023 has the ‘angry eyebrows’ eyes! Why, Lego, why?! The previous GWS was perfect with a simple eye. Now all the sharks have angry eyebrow eyes, and the adult crocagator similarly gets the evil eye treatment…

    Agreed. Did seem significant. Also that they included a brick built cockatoo, AND that it was the first postcard to be for whole dang country - not just a city :) Also a lot of City themes and sets are foreshadowed by Creator sets. Including many of the animals that are brick built in them (bear, orca etc)

    I don’t know which way they will go next, but I think we can assume it’s ‘wild’ animals rather than farm, and land rather than sea. There are three obvious ways to go using existing animals and adding to them with new ones, I think. Asia - revisit the tiger, reprint for snow leopard, use new bear cub mould for baby pandas, reuse monkey, crocodiles, snakes etc. What could be a new mould? Maybe adult panda, orangutan, Red panda, peacock, crane, wild goat? 🐯🐼🐵 Forest - revisit bear with new added cubs, reuse stag, owls, eagle, falcon, squirrel. New? Moose, baby or other deer, fox, wolf, raven, raccoon, boar, woodpecker🦌🦝🐿️ Australia - reuse existing koala, crocs, snakes, spider, sheep, rabbits. New kangaroo, cockatoo, lizard, platypus. 🦘🐨🐊 any of those could be done with just a few new animals moulds. Agreed - really lends itself to a variety of vehicles to include, as well as some buildings & scenery that would be new to Lego. I think using all-yellow minifigs for such a range remains a challenge (they did it with the Wildlife Rescue sets but honestly, it’s more than a bit awkward now)
