  1. Think about how big Smaug is. This tower will be a lot bigger than you might image at first sight.
  2. Great idea and very well executed. The little details really make it. The 1x1 tiles in the ceiling really take that from being a bland area to well decorated. I think if I were to change one thing it would be that the portal is in the same position in the floor and in the ceiling to help with the idea that it is the same portal.
  3. Cylindrical towers always look great in LEGO. You can really see the inspiration from Broadway Tower.
  4. Darth Vader is black. That is why LEGO sells only black versions. It is probably more to do with Lucasfilm/Disney wanting to keep him only as black rather than LEGO refusing to do him in a multitude of colours. As for there being a huge market, I really doubt it. Monochromes are still fairly niche, and there is no reason that huge numbers of Star Wars fans would want to buy into a rainbow of Darth Vader colours. There are far more things that SW fans might want to display rather than one figure in the LEGO spectrum (and non-production colours).
  5. Retirement dates are targets, not absolutes. As already noted, Vidiyo shows that.
  6. It is a mess due to all the illegitimate parts now produced. I suggested the same thing with a split back in January / February, as I also am only interested in parts made by LEGO for LEGO sets, and not interested in these made to order parts.
  7. I've not seen any as yet, although a couple of UK sellers on bricklink do have some so they might have started to show up. When multiple sellers in the UK have them it is a good indication that they are more widely available.
  8. Could be even worse as there won't be inner plastic bags for the CMFs.
  9. I think the old BF and Crusaders are not so different to the new. Although I don't like the new legs, I prefer plain. I also switch the arms, as black look arms look more traditional for BF. Whereas the new forestman torso looks so much better than the old.
  10. 1. Kingdoms. 2. Black Falcons and new BF (but with plain black legs and black arms). 3. Crusaders and new Crusaders. 4. Wolfpak. 5. New Forestmen. 6. Fantasy Era. 7=. Black Knights and 7=. Dark Forest 8. Forestmen. All the rest. 2013 Crown Knights are way down but Dragon Knights higher up. If LOTR and Hobbit, they take slots 1 and 2. And I'd also slot in CMF elf, actor and Shakespeare (with weapons and helmets), Evil and Heroic Knight, etc in about the same level as Black Falcons to Crusaders.
  11. That is a bit mixed up! Merlin coming from Authurian legends (approx 500 AD) whereas Robin Hood was based on folklore from much later (~1200 AD). After a while they just become generic names used to suggest a type of character, so a wizard called Merlin, an outlaw called Robin Hood, without necessarily telling the story. If LEGO meant him to be Robin Hood, why was there no Marion or Sheriff of Nottingham for the rest of the story? Just like I probably wouldn't notice if they did a Money King set with a Jade Rabbit and a White Snake. Totally different Chinese legends but mix them all up to use myth to suggest character types.
  12. It was at a time when LEGO marketing was very regional. Much of the world did not have Robin Hood LEGO, just forestmen. Some adverts and printed media in some locations referred to the leader of the forestmen as Robin or Robin Hood, presumably to try to get some implied storyline where customers might not engage with the sets. It might also have been because Playmobil had recently (late 70s and early 80s) had a lot of success with Robin Hood and castle playsets and LEGO were trying to copy their approach.
  13. I doubt those statistics are very useful as everyone behaves differently. I buy lots on B+P / PAB, but very rarely buy any sets from lego. Why overpay on a set when you are buying PAB? If I need to hit a threshold then I'll buy more PAB and sell it.
  14. Chances are they haven't broken but of course could break when they get used. But if they do then buy replacements.
  15. I got the movable brown ones. They charged I think 60p each, so probably no different to filling a cup but no filler 1x1 round plates!
  16. Kerching yellow, kerching green, etc.
  17. That's pretty much where I am coming from too. I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with the set as a set. If you want a castle that looks like it is made from LEGO or even a stable play set for a kid, it does the job perfectly well. But it is nothing like what I would build as an AFOL. And a lot of the parts are not so useful in what I would build. The LBG 1x? bricks would be fine, but a lot of it wouldn't. Over the years, I have found some of the best parts packs for (my) castle builds are small Star Wars sets. If you buy 20 of the same small set, then chances are you will have enough of each useful piece for repetition of any design feature. And the figures and any printed parts are very easy to sell on being Star Wars, and you get the useful parts for free or next to nothing (more usually actually end up in profit and free parts!). The issue with the minifigures is also a big deal. Unless they start putting unique figure parts in Creator and if we keep getting the same old existing torsos or, even worse, more pirates then no new factions or updates will come. I was lucky and bought a load of horses when they had them in PAB back in about 2013/14 (although they charged individually by the horse and were not allowed in a cup).
  18. Feel free to keep saving them if you believe they will open up their entire archive for completely free choice. On other forums, some people were expecting to get the early Modulars, some were going to get Space Police and Adventurers, Lord of the Rings and Batman I, and of course others were expecting to get Classic Castle, Space and Pirates sets. I think the best we can hope for vintage sets is that they might make new "old" sets, like what they did with the Forest Hideout. That way, they can make a planned reasonable sized run of say 25000 sets using in-stock parts and have them available when advertised. Although just as likely given it is LEGO VIP, it would be old but recent promotions, polybags or regular sets that they didn't shift.
  19. Bricklink designer sets have a lead time of about a year and they have a run of 10000 in batches of just 5 sets. I really doubt they'd be able to handle requests for any sets from their archive, making just a few (hundred) copies of 100s of different sets especiallywhere parts are no longer produced. They possibly mean they (LEGO) will pick a very small number of sets and let VIPs exchange VIP points for them, but that is very different to customers being able to choose any set from the past as some were making out.
  20. Whenever they do a survey, things tend to get worse when they act on responses. They will probably be even tighter on licensed and minifig parts when people complain about availability. Get orders in now before they "improve" it.
  21. It looks like two shades of it. The bootleggers seem to have the same quality control when it comes to colours as LEGO!
  22. I feel the same. I haven't bought and won't buy the 3-in-1 Castle (unless it goes on a huge discount) as I don't think it is very good. Pretty much the same reason as you - the parts are not great for the types of castles and buildings I build. I also found the minifigure selection quite poor, given you can buy the Black Falcons through bricks and pieces and I don't need any more skeletons and definitely not any more pirates. Even if I didn't build my own, I don't think I'd buy both the Creator and 90th Anniversary Castle, they are too different. It's not a bad set, it's just not for me.
  23. LEGO like you to believe that. Collectable minifigures come with more parts than some single figure polybags that have been sold in the past.
  24. No, that first happened way back in Series 1: These two both appears in this set:
  25. The Modulars look even worse when surrounded by City buildings.
