LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
One easy way to do it is to produce all character 1 in one week, then all character 2 in the next week, and so on. That way, they'd all have different manufacturing codes on the seals. But it would mean storing lots of boxes for up to three months before packaging them. -

Isn't it white, just in the shadows? It has not been made in tan, but has in dark tan for Radagast and PotC Angelica.- 2,976 replies

Not for series 23, which is what this thread is about. More relevant for the 'future' thread and already being discussed there. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wouldn't mind truly blind bags / boxes if I was interested in all the figures in a series (and multiples of them). For example, if they did a sports player series, or a warriors series, or a city style jobs series, or animal costume series, and I was interested in the theme then I'd buy blind as there are no duds that I would be disappointed with. Series I don't like (but presumably others do), I can skip. I'd probably only buy into a series every few years and that's if they went back to three unlicensed series a year. Whereas with distributions like right now, with with 1-2 acceptable and 10-11 duds, the odds are not in my favour so I'd not buy. -

PAB does count towards GWP in Europe. And in fact it always has. The old bricks and pieces didn't but does now.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes, things like the lizard suit guy was especially popular when he was done (probably more than the gorilla suit at the time) but when it has been repeated with different animal (and vegetable) suits so many times they just become a bit lacklustre. I guess others would probably feel the same way about them doing a Spartan, a Roman, a Viking, etc. seeing them as all the same rather than anything fresh. But when there was 16 in a theme and 48 a year, it didn't matter if there were loads of duds (or ones other people liked that you didn't) since there was still 5-6 a year that were good. I did like the S20 Viking - well, his helmet. His torso was a bit crap with that printed mini-cape that doesn't really add much since he wears it under another cape and it messes up the front. The tournament knight was OK, although not as versatile (for me) as the Frightening Knight or the Fright Knight done just before. Some of them have also become so specific (although this was also the case years ago, with name badges, label badge on the police constable and so on. I really like the ones like the Fright Knight as the chain mail torso can be used in so many situations. Comparing it to that Viking torso ... If that was exactly the same but without the blue cape print, it would have been great for many uses (peasants, archers, etc as well as Vikings). But that cape just ruins it. And he then wears a fabric cape on top of it. All of that FK torso got covered up, yet they did a beautiful job on making it reusable. The bee keeper was also a nice one. Something just a little bit different unlikely to appear in a City set, but a good addition compared to a kid dressed up as a dog in the same series as a kid dressed as a ladybird following on from a kid dressed up as a pea and a kid dresed up as a llama. It does make me wonder how many people collect them as an entire theme now, to display all together as a collection. Now it is well over 300 they just start to merge together especially when so many are similar. I can understand people collecting just animal suits, or warriors, or "jobs" or whatever they are into. But for me the theme as a whole no longer holds together anywhere near as well as when there were fewer series. It is almost like they should do even smaller series but single theme only. I wouldn't mind if they did a series of 8 animal suits, for example, then that was it for animal suits a few years. Then do City folk, then Space, then History, ... etc. -
I guess you can call them what you like, but presumably Silver Falcons are just an offshoot of the Black Falcons if they carry BF shields into battle. Personally, I'd have them all right handed. It looks a bit strange having half left and half right handed and assembling into a formation where they split down the middle. The swordsmen in the middle are going to clash with their neighbours.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I used to be a collector, but got thoroughly bored by about series 12-14. I was complete to S14 minus Mr Gold. For me it was slowing down the regular series which gets you out of the habit of buying them every four months but also the running out of ideas and repetitive nature, which go opposite each other. The more you produce, the harder it is to come up with new ideas. I had hoped producing just 12 per year might increase the fresh ideas, but it doesn't work for me as I'm not into animal costumes. I eventually sold off most of my collection, just keeping the ones interesting to me. Fortunately I had army built the more interesting ones so I tend to use them for MOCs rather than as a collectable series. I still buy the occasional figures often for their parts rather than complete figures. If they went down the route of doing more warriors or more occupations, I might be interested again but I guess they decided they weren't as popular as animal costumes. I used to like it when the 16 figures were all different themes and it was a challenge to build an 8x8 vignette for each one. In a way, I'd like them to go back to 48 per year. At least that way there might be 4 or 5 interesting ones a year instead of 0 or 1 and possibly 2 if really lucky. I bought a few torsos from the S21 Centaur, I missed out on S20 Viking and Knight due to cost on secondary market, I bought 12 of the torsos from S19 Fright Knight and the coloured brick suits. Aside from those I don't think I've bought much at all. It seems a totally different product from when it started. The cost is also an issue. It used to be that you could get them for about £1.20 using various discounts up to S10. At £3.50 and rarely discounted, it is a big turn-off especially when BAM are 3 for £6. -

In some stores you can. I once got a couple of packs of 15 of the key and lion shields, for example.- 2,976 replies

Are LEGO referring to it as 22? I'd be surprised as they normally wouldn't count the skeleton.- 2,976 replies

The Black Falcons shields and other parts were originally hard to get as they kept selling out but soon stabilised and became easier to buy.

[MOC] Lost on the bazaar at sunset (updated)

This looks great. Nice build with a wonderful pop of colour, especially in the tower. Although my favourite bits are the birds adding a little bit of life way above the busy bazaar. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
MAB replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I assumed it meant just the yellow castle and the original style of figures that are catalogued as Classic Castle (bricklink link) https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=M&catString=9.489 and excluded all the later factions that you could vote for separately. That different people interpret it in different ways shows what a mess the poll was.- 2,976 replies

MAB replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You didn't highlight this one. To me, that was a bit of a waste of a vote, since I didn't want a yellow castle to be produced. Although it gained more votes than any faction but does raise the issue of what does Classic Castle even mean? Is it just the yellow castles, or grey too? So I went for factions I wanted.- 2,976 replies

MAB replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I guess you could have assumed others were going to vote for your favourites and so you vote for your 4, 5 and 6th favourites to get them higher up the list than others, but if everyone did that then the assumed popular choices might have lost.- 2,976 replies

You can also use the cloth wrap / bandana piece like some of the original forestwomen. Although for your wallet's sake, you need to use dark green instead of green! Also for a bit more variation there is a brown scarf piece that Wyldstyle from TLM2 wore that fits over a quiver and you can combine it with a female hair that is "up". It makes it look like a hood that is pulled down.- 2,976 replies

I also swapped out the arms on mine, for plain black ones to go with the plain blacks legs. I think they look quite nice like that, and it again gives some variation despite being the same print. I haven't tried it yet, but using other colour arms would give the impression of different shirts rather than chainmail under the tabbard. White or tan might work quite well for archers wearing a cloth shirt, and so on. I'll try that later.- 2,976 replies

There used to be at least two sites for tracking contents of PAB walls. One had every physical store, and what they had in every bin location. Unfortunately both sites essentially died as they weren't updated by users frequently enough and so became useless.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
MAB replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yeah, I do too. But if they limit the numbers of different torso prints, I'd go for one each of multiple factions than 2 or more of fewer factions. As others do, I tend to put in variation using different helmets, shields, weapons and legs. But when it comes to legs, I'm not a fan of printed ones. While they look fine for static, straight standing figures they often look wrong when posing the legs. So for my BFs (at least the ones that will be posed), I use just the printed torsos with plain black or blue legs. They look more traditional too, just updated torsos.- 2,976 replies

I've used stud.io a few times and didn't find it to hard to use. However I use a computer all day and it felt like I was working rather than relaxing. It also took me 3-4 times longer to build something than if I had physical parts. And at the end of it, I didn't have anything to display. I can understand it is a useful tool if you don't have many bricks, or are travelling or want to make instructions, or explore connection of new parts, and so on. But for full MOCs, physical building only for me.

I prefer two factions with a single print each compared to one faction with two prints. I find it quite easy to tell the difference between foot soldiers and archers - the archers carry bows and have quivers on their backs! :-)- 2,976 replies

Maybe if they have minidoll figures under the armour. The two large outer rivers looks a bit odd in this configuration. Putting those together and reducing the symmetry (one waterwheel, one ramp, etc) might make it look more realistic while keeping the size. It's funny isn't it, you remove yellow skin modern heads in favour of the old smileys whereas I remove them in favour of fleshies. Both leaving a stash of yellow heads.- 2,976 replies
