  1. 1981! To be fair to him, Peter Davison wasn't too bad so 1984. I never really liked the Sylvester McCoy ones, but that is probably as I was in my late teens by then. Tom Baker was "my" Doctor as a kid, so he will always be the best.
  2. Things have become even worse: Take a look at this part: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6049732#T=S&C=0&O={"color":0,"rpp":"500","iconly":0} This is now a part in a set (well, six sets) containing ... Sets no longer contain the rubber belt, they contain a belt in a cardboard sleeve. What is this new part's name? LegoCardboard Sleeve for Sets 60052, 60225, 60226, 60228, 60229, 70790 That will need to be updated for every new set that contains this common part. And for sellers wanting to sell parts not parts inside a cardboard sleeve, then parting out just got harder to do.
  3. As I said, 1:43.75 is based on height alone. Anything will be in scale only in the vertical axis. It is a common problem when putting minifigures in cars, or fitting them through doors - anything in the other two dimensions. But then take any LEGO train, it is tiny. You can fit maybe 6-8 people in a carriage. However, we still think of it as minifigure scale. LEGO world is very different to ours. To me, anything is minfiigure scale if minifigures can interact with what you have built in a sensible way.
  4. Take care on printed parts. A quick wipe is fine, but too much wiping and the print can be removed. Use soapy water first.
  5. Who do you think is selling them on amazon, ebay, Bricklink, Brickowl? It is mainly resellers, not people that need to sell quickly. And sure collectors die off or need to sell for other reasons, but that is a small part of the resale market. Take a retired license from a few years ago, such as LOTR. If someone wants to buy a new set now, who are they going to buy from? Do they wait for a LOTR fan that has the set but never opened it to become bored with it or otherwise needs to sell it?
  6. That torso and dress go really nicely together, although I've just realised which minifigure/set the dress is from and hence its price.
  7. You can typically drive 4 or 5 M-motors or 2 or 3 XL-motors if you use fresh batteries. That is under normal load. However, under very heavy loads or driving the motor to stall, then often just one motor. I think the maximum load is 800 mA but the battery boxes have an overload protection. You can remove this if you want ... see here
  8. Yet they released old themes such as Ghostbusters plus the HQ, the BTTF set, Tron, Vintage Mickey, and loads of other nostalgia IPs through Dimensions, and so on. Of course, a lot of that has been through Ideas but Doctor Who is excluded from that now. There probably is a market, but it is difficult to judge how big that market is. A small run like on the scale of an Ideas set might sell well. But then there is the problem of whether it is worth doing at that scale. They already had someone design all the graphics for the minifigures of the Doctors for Dimensions.
  9. Why shouldn't people invest in LEGO? People invest in all sorts of items. The death of LEGO investing is not necessarily good for LEGO buyers / collectors. If investors didn't put one (or 10 or 100) away for sale in the future, then finding new copies of retired sets is much harder unless LEGO re-releases the one you want. And chances are they will not re-release it. There are so many new sets to release that they cannot possibly offer all old sets too. And at any time there are plenty of new sets to choose from too if someone wants to pay only RRP. Nobody forces someone to buy an old set at a mark-up from an investor. For most retired sets, if you want it then either someone had put one away and will sell it to you (at a mark-up) or you cannot buy it (in new condition).
  10. If he bought one for himself, then that is clearly not true. Many LEGO fans invest in LEGO to varying degrees.
  11. Minifigures are 4cm tall, so the average person in LEGO City is 2m high at 1:50! It should really be about 1:43.75 if based on the average male height of 1.75m reported in many European and North American countries. It could well just be rounded to make the maths easier. But of course, problems arise in the other two dimensions due to minifigure shape.
  12. It would be good to have a better range of sizes and all matching windows . I'm not too bothered by the glass. I used to be, but I started leaving it out and often find builds look better without it.
  13. The Champs torsos do not come with gloves, the gloves are supplied loose and you need to find them and attach them.
  14. Or maybe it won't be in sets at all. A Lego designer said on social media something along those lines. Prints are relatively cheap compared to new molds, and doing exclusive prints in the BAM section gets people into stores where they probably also buy other sets too.
  15. Creator Expert cars are also out of scale with the modulars. Just like the carousel and modulars, they are not designed to be displayed together. Problems with scale is something most Lego fans are used to. The Grand Emporium for example is a very small shop in "real" scale.
  16. I don't even know what an average set is, let alone how many are made.
  17. GWPs are currently a tote bag and a picnic blanket, so I think that rules out being in a golden age right now!
  18. Depending on how they do them, I might be in the market for a few Minions and probably some Trolls for parts.
  19. Washing is simple - dishwashing liquid plus water. Drying bulk is much harder due to the space and time needed.
  20. White paper or card, curved up so no hard corners.
  21. USA, Germany and UK - that is most of the LEGO buying world, isn't it?
  22. I'm not a manga fan. Is there enough of a fanbase for a specific IP within manga? For example, sci-fi (or really space opera) is popular but having Star Wars essentially rules out Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, V, etc and pretty much any other licensed space stories. Plus do they have locations that can be done to justify sets. There are plenty of TV series or movies where they could do loads of characters but they cannot really just do the characters, they seem to need the sets to sell parts.
  23. Is the bicycle girl and bike going to fit in the official minifigure display cases?
