[MOC] A Little Bit of Magic - Trade District of Albion
Garmadon replied to Silver.Smith's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is a beautifully vibrant build, and packed with details and life without being at all cluttered - in other words, I'm loving it! The dark blue awning against the vine and red flowers is probably my favorite part - so pretty! - but there are too many other amazing things here to note. Here goes my try anyways though - the stained glass window, wizard's bookstore, and message board are fantastic (I hadn't even noticed that last one until I was reading the comments, but I feel like I could keep coming back to this over and over and keep finding new things to discover!), and that wagon is an ingenious way to fill out the scene with something unexpected but very fitting. The parts usage on those battlements are simply perfect and the use of quarter-tiles all over looks great, and the dark grey patch of stonework on the floor in front (along with the dark orange ones on the edges) is aesthetically ingenious. Altogether lovely work! And I would be remiss in not mentioning the excellent photography and the story - way to jump right in to excitement and intrigue! I'm awaiting in curiosity to see what you have up your sleeves! -
I'll echo the others - that slanting road is ace! The quarter-tile roof and the beams across the entrance to the stables are some great details as well, and the minifigs really add some nice action to the scene Excellent layout to the tower as well; awesome way to pull out of your dark ages!

[MOC] Wolfpack’s Stronghold Gatehouse
Garmadon replied to RyszardBosiak's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Really nicely done, my friend! The color-scheme is excellent, and the those gatepost-top pieces (or whatever they're called ) in grey look fantastic here, as do the prefab Tudor parts! Combine that with a very nice arch and some great vines and roofs and you've got a really aesthetic gatehouse here! Just goes to prove once again that clean and uncluttered can look top-notch. Have you ever looked into the Guilds of Historica next door? If you enjoy building castle that's a great place to be!- 14 replies

Very nicely done! Excellent job with the stonework and tapering on the tower, and the landscape colors and roof are great as well I really like the wooden supports along the outside of the tower before the top and the flag too - I'm surprised by how well that technique works for a flag waving in the wind! If I've got one nitpick, it be that the tan in the flag makes it the same color-scheme as the Tudor, but that's a really minor point on a great build! Congrats on the front-page! And looking over your Flickr page, I see you've got a lot of great medieval stuff - have you ever thought of joining us over in the Guilds? We'd love to have you!

[COR ChIIICatB] The Non-spectaular Secrets of Oleonda
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It's been three years already?? Wow has time flown by - still feels like we were getting ready to launch barely a year ago I must admit, when I first saw this I thought it was exactly the same build as before, but upon proper comparison there are definitely some excellent improvements, especially the angle on the tower, the vegetation out front (spikes and taller trees both), tiled water and photography - and I've honestly always wanted to revisit some of my older MOCs and improve them and never gotten even close to getting around to it, so kudos for doing that as well! Also, that's hilarious about your daughter! Tell your 4-year old she's awesome -
[Esl-Ch III-Cat B] Tea and Ruins of El Oleonda
Garmadon replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Quite nicely done, @Faladrin, the palm trees and ruins are both great, and I really enjoyed your story! I think the landscape would improve from more curves and smoother transitions (although you do have some great ideas with the sloping plates ), and it's a great idea to gather some tips from nature for your foliage - like, darker green plants are usually under the brighter greens, for example. But that flamingo looks great here, and I am definitely a fan of those white/yellow and lavender/yellow flowers! Also, congrats on your promotion to Regulator! Well deserved! -
[ SR - FB 5 - April 620 ] Bouncy food
Garmadon replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's ingenious! And that large grasshopper at the beginning is quite good too! -
I love this and how perfectly suited it is to the time-period (or very nearly, anyways ) and yet how original it is for BoBS and Lego ships in general! And as the others have said, the execution is fantastic as well, with the snow piled up on board and around the edges; and the color-scheme contributes perfectly to the chilly feel as well. Even the stark sails look like they've been waving for some time in the frigid temperatures

First and latest ship MOC - BoBS "Twenty years challenge"
Garmadon replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
My first ship for BoBS, The Henri - And my latest... (And have there been only a couple decent-sized ones in between? I've got to fix that...) And it appears that most of my progress has been in the shrinking way... If micro-ships count though (which my first and last actually both were ) But I had pretty very-humble-beginnings as well -
Some brilliant stuff going on in that bay section, Maxim - the flex tubes and railing really make it work, although the dish embedded into the bottom is an ingenious idea as well And excellent job with the rest of the building too, especially the panels under the barber windows and the colors on that roof (I've really got to get some burnt orange tiles!)

I'm already on Discord for Innovalug stuff and a couple of other contests, so I'd definitely jump on in if we were to create a Guilds server - I can't say how active I'd be there (it's tough sometimes to keep up with what I'm already involved in ), but I'm sure I'd drop in every once in a while at least!

[OL - CHIII - CAT B] The Philosophers Stone
Garmadon replied to merc's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is fantastic - as the others have mentioned, the semi-circle is brilliant, and the vines and vegetation overgrowing - along with all those skeletons - give the perfect sense of abandonment and ruin My favorite details are the open arches in the walls and the way you've extended those half-arches on top, and quite an intriguing story as well! -
What he said! I'm also really liking your move with dark tan as the base instead of the usual rockwork that tends to blend in And those are some fantastic parts uses with the Tudor section in the back!

I've been meaning to comment on this for a while - I really love what you've done here! It looks very much like a pirate-age version of the medieval market village with the hinged houses and the tree, which are all fantastic, and of course, that ship is the icing on the cake! The loose slopes and trans-light-blue studs work incredibly well here, and the action you've got going on with the minifigs is spot-on too. If I've got one nitpick it'd be that in a couple of the pictures you can see a gap between the roof and the rest of the building on one or two of the houses - but I can say I am planning on coming back here for inspiration when I build up some pirate-aged settlements!

[SR - FB - April 620] Black Rock Blacksmith
Garmadon replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That is a very nice blacksmith's shop, Professor, and those bellows are a great compact design! The hanging chains are an excellent touch too, and that roof is as amazing here as anywhere else I've seen it! -
Thanks Maxim! Yep, I was trying to make it fit in with the style of the town (and with Eslandolan awesomeness in general )! Great to hear that you enjoyed it! Thanks Ayrlego! That bay section was undoubtedly the most complex part of the build, and you don't want to see it from the inside (trust me, it's a mess - even those windows are actually all rounded ones stuck inside grill plates - I don't have any square ones yet - which stresses them a tiny bit but didn't damage any of mine), but I knew that would either make or break the building. And I love trans-light blue tile water on top of studs! Plus, when I can get one of my little siblings to take it apart for me that's just perfection Thanks mate! Thanks KM! I couldn't resist the urge to plagiarize that into my story the instant I thought of it!

[Freebuild - Mitgardia] Dilapidated Church
Garmadon replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Guilds of Historica
And I'm glad you like building them, because I definitely enjoy seeing your church buildings as well! The dilapidation is quite well done (although I must admit a part of me wants to see that missing tower half-fallen and at an angle ) and the stained glass is great, especially the round ones with those arches! I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with this storyline as well - keep it up! -
Well, there's at least one more, The De Fiori family will be involved in this challenge with the help of @Ayrlego, @Puvel, @kahir88, and myself!

[OL FB] Lloyd's of Londa of Alexport
Garmadon replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yep, that's definitely a pretty sweet microbuild - loving the use of those candles as the columns! And I'll echo the praises on that fig - Lloyd never looked better! -
While working on putting together a team myself I realized the sad lack of a team building thread here, so to rectify that I've set one up for people looking for teams, or for more members to fill their group up with - so head on over if you're in either of those quandaries! Since there's no real need to keep them secret, I've also asked complete groups to post in that thread with a list of their team and to mention which Varlyrian family they're planning on building for, so please do so if you've already got a group together! Also, note that the challenge text has been edited a little to clarify the fact that not every entry has to relate directly to the Rego - taking down either his opponents or his allies would work as well. There's no point having him killed/removed two dozen times, and so we've freed it up a bit more clearly so there'll be more room for the teams to come up with creative storylines and to take advantage of the different families and possibilities in the Varlyrian intrigue system instead of only going after the Amancios. Of course taking a more direct jab is totally legitimate too, so no need to change your stories if you've already written them unless you'd like to!

Looking to get together a team of others for Challenge V? Trying to find another member or two to fill up your team? Or are you looking to enter the collaboration category and at a loss how to get started? Here's the place for you! Any and all team building discussion can take place in this thread, and, since there's really no need to keep them secret, I'll also ask complete groups to post here with a list of their team and to mention which Varlyrian family they're planning on building for. Any questions relating to the challenge but not directly to team building can continue in the Challenge thread, and as before, if you have any questions about story or intrigue, feel free to shoot a PM to @Rogue Angel or myself!

Sweet! - and congrats Seb on getting such an awesome ship! Great to see this beauty get a new lease on life, and even some updates as well (like that skull and crossbones !)

[OL - ChIII-CatA] - Wooden houses of Lotii
Garmadon replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That first paragraph (especially) is just hilarious! And nice work with that elevated house as well - I particularly like the mast pole for spying on your neighbors -
[ESL - Ch III - Cat A] Public Garden
Garmadon replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I quite like this - the tree is very nice and the dark tan banks on the river were an excellent idea. Altogether everything works and makes for a very idyllic scene!
