If you don't like Star Wars, all those minifigs are completely irrelevant. Star Wars are typically minifigs that can't be used for much else than Star Wars. That said, some star wars sets have great designs. But when I saw this picture my first impression was too: 'random pile of bricks'....

35 dollars only in the US! Plus 10 dollars discount if you order over 100, plus free shipping. Over here it's 70 euros (88 dollars) per set. The 3 sets together cost 75 euros in the US and 217 euros in Europe. That means it's three times more expensive here. Americans, go shopping now!

Maybe I would like it if I was familiar with those movies. But I haven't seen Star Wars movies and I can't make head or tail of that MOC at all...
-
I checked mytoys.de and the construction site sets says "can be ordered from December, 22"... so they're not there yet.

Great. Nice photography, too.

No, there is no "Sign up" button on that "Buy now" site! You just type all the data, and they give you an error message with the exact same fields once again. There are a few buttons you can click but they only give you short pop ups that say "yes, paypal is safe, blabla". So they suggest you have to re-type the data to sign up, but that's not the case. You have to manually type "Paypal.com" in the URL bar and then look for a sign up link. Not a case of intuive web design, make a page that tells people to sign up but fail to make a button or link to get there...

Welcome Legomaniac and actually I think your grammar is fine. Your spelling is a bit problematic but you're not a native speaker of English so you're excused as far as I am concerned! I was also going to say that you don't pay double prices - it's the US that gets it half price.

You should give them as much to play with as they can handle. Which means you should never let a 3 year old play with your entire collection because they will be instantly psychotic... if they're 10, they can play with everything, I guess. What do you mean, make a mess? It IS Lego... it's meant to take apart and put together, so that can't be a problem. Of course you would not allow them to throw it all across the room or to put all boxes upside down and jump around in it (if they are like that, lock your Lego away and consult some ADHD specialist). If you have some built-up models (either sets or MOCs) you want to stay that way, you just have to tell them that those are your models and they can't touch them. It's your house, you're the boss. But just make sure they get the right amount for them to actually build and play with, and go build and play together with them. That way they are not touching things you don't want to touch, and they do have fun, and so do you. PS I am basing this mainly on how I handle Lego and my own two kids, who are just 2 years old. They can't touch my MOCs on display (or only under supervision) but regularly get at small box filled with random parts to have fun with. They are excellent builders already - for their age, that is.

I think the brick testament is the best known AFOL work outside the Lego community by far. I only seriously started again with Lego a year ago but I have known the Brick Testament for ages.

That's a relief. I have been doing it the correct way - put them horizontal and then bend outwards. The way that guy always did it is sure to cause disaster indeed.

Is it OK to mix dark skinned mini-figures with yellow mini-figures?
eti replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I like to mix fleshies and yellows sometimes. And white heads - the ones you see in my sigfig. Oh, and I recently got a bunch of Fabulanders, so I'll mix those in as well - I think it's all allowed, it's the creator of the MOC who decides on what they'll use and why. -
Okay, I will try that. If it means I do not have to put money into my Paypal account, it's fine. If they want me to put in money first, I'm out... I just tried. That Paypal company is impossible. I typed my credit card data. I hit 'pay'. Paypal tells me to sign up first. So I type my credit card data again and hit 'pay' again. They tell me the exact same thing. I'm in a loop. There is a box to sign in if you already have an account, there are two thingies that give explanatory pop ups about how safe Paypal is but they do NOT give any link at all to sign up. Apparently they want me to do something but don't tell me what I need to do. I'll have to try and dive to the paypal labyrinth. And all that to make a creditcard payment... Paypal sucks. 5 minutes later: I try the log in screen, that takes me to a page where they say "Make credit card payment (where available), click here" and I type in my CC data again. I am brought to the same "you need to sign up first" page without a link to sign up. ---10 minutes later--- I think I worked it out. cool raffle, by the way.

Panda, 'raffle' means lottery... I tried to make a payment but after typing in all my data the site says I need to open a Paypal-account. Paypal is not a bank I trust very much at all. (The last time I needed to open an account there they wanted to take my money...) Do I have to open an account and put money in it in order to pay with my credit card??? I have a credit card and of course I can make an IBAN payment.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
eti replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Okay, I'm Dutch - and I work as a translator. So let me try to make a real, thursday-less translation: (all praise to Google's service but they're not going to put me out of business yet!) To avoid destruction of our planet by a strange, uncanny rumbling, a brave team of miners starts off on a long journey deep underground. Here they meet creatures that dig in the rocks and that undermine the earth crust in their frenetic hunt for a specific type of crystals. Once they tasted the crystals, the underground creatures change into monsters that can't stop digging because they have more and more crystals... this looks like a typo in the Dutch text, I think it should be 'because they NEED more and more crystals' The series consists of 6 different sets. It is available at Brickshop Holland as of December 15. The Power Miner series will initially consist of 6 different sets: * 8956 Rock Destroyer * 8957 Mining Machine * 8958 Granite Breaker * 8959 Claw Digger * 8960 Thunder Drill * 8961 Crystal Sweeper Special offer: The complete Power Miners collection 2008 for €99,95 including free shipping. THE FOLLOWING LINES ARE NOT PART OF THE TRANSLATION: I tried to make a new post but this site appears to glue my posts together even though I want it to do that, for obvious reasons. Which, if you try to click through on their labyrinthic site, saves you a whopping 15 euros... and that shop is generally not the cheapest one. But if you really want six garish nondescript vehicles with funny looking monsters, why not order them all! (except the free shipping stops at the Dutch border, I suppose...) -
It's a brilliant set! And not as much for AFOLs (who will probably like the minifig but not care too much about the rest) but certainly for children. The model shows how normal bricks can make a shark and a boat and it invites to build more. And the playbility is excellent. Enough play value in boat + treasure + man + shark methinks! I love how they made the shark and boat out of bricks. I never got used to cloth and paper in Lego sets, sthis sail is a lot more elagant than those in the 'real' pirate sets, actually.

Thanks for the review. That set has been on my BL wanted list for a while and now I'm really sure it's great. Too bad it's so hard to find - in Holland lots of Harry Potter sets are offered 2nd hand but never this one.
-
Hey thanks for all the enthusiastic replies! I really don't think I have that much of a chance because some of the other contestants are really great, go see that Flickr group! http://www.flickr.com/groups/gominimango/pool/

I'm not really sure what those yellow and brown round bricks are supposed to be - döner / gyros thingies maybe? A bit unclear, or am I a bit dumb?
-
Very nice, i like the shape. Nice classic train feel to it. I actually like the brown color, too, even though those were black in reality. I wouldn't change that!
-
Why don't they say what the Dutch writing said? That might gives us a clue, maybe.
-
I'm not into Batman at all but it looks good. Great photography of black!
-
Looks great. Hard to tell it's not officially part of it. So you had some of those new windows anyway? I wouldn't be able to do it because all my modern windows are from that set...
-
I deserve to win because I have no idea how an article about RSS feeds should give me better understanding of a magic word that is, apparently, 'striped marlin'. Hey, I don't even know what 'striped marlin' means and even though I followed the link AND followed the next link to classic-pirates.com I am still in the mist. Anyways, let me be the first to say the magic word: Abracadabra.

Over at Brothers Brick there is a contest to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the LEGO minifig. The challenge is to showcase your minifig on an adventure, and one can enter in any or all of the following categories: * 1970s * 1980s * 1990s * 2000s My entries show the biggest adventure anyone can go on - life itself. I made four entries, each of them showing my minifig (me, that is) in a different phase of my life. I am the guy with the white face and the big grin - see how my life has gone thus far: the images are linked to their respective photopages on Flickr and enlargements My first entry shows me in the 1970s, sitting on the floor and playing with Lego. I believe it is set 361 I am playing with. My sister is in the play pen, playing with a teddy bear, and my father is reading a magazine. My mother is coming into the room with drinks. My second entry is me in the 1980s, the high school years. High school for me was mainly sitting in my room, listening to the top 40 on the radio and working through piles of books - I was an A-student nerd type of person. But truth be told, I did not study all the time. Or at least to me it looks like a comic book I am reading... My third entry is me in the nineties. I was in college, and of course I still had to study very hard. But I didn't have much time for it, because I also needed to party with my roommates. And with the girlfriend I met at the students' club. Our dorm had one kitchen for 15 students. Visitors occasionally had their doubts about the hygiene... but well, we certainly can't do the dishes if we can't find the brush. Or do you see it somewhere? My fourth entry is me in the 2000s. Actually, it's right now. We're in the living room, my wife - still the same one, I married my first girlfriend - is reading a book with our 2 year old daughter Madelief, and I am playing with her twin brother Karel. Our cat Bambi is lying near the heater. It looks like Karel and me are playing with a Duplo train... The four scenes are joined by hinges. When put together they form one big room. Flickr MOC Pages
