Dan Siskind's WWII Dioramas
I Scream Clone replied to Brickadier General's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Just beautiful work from Dan I love the look of the muddy shore as the troops fight tooth and nail for the advantage. No mean feat to get that many troops either Outstanding. -
Thank you both for the lovely comments, now you are both judges for CC right? Im a shoe-in woohoo! Aliencat raised a valid concern when he mentioned that this is more of a mosiac than a tapestry, thoughts? Anyway im happy with the complete product and any attempt to put a fancy border around it to give it a more tapestry feel will just look tacked on

Welcome aboard Matn! Nice to see another accomplished builder contribute to our project. Could you please post your pics in the Team Alpha Thread. If you cant see the topic, there are links to both in the first post. The two team format was a decision made a long time ago, when the project was relatively small. It gives a more manageable approach to wading through all the creations, allows a bit of team pride, and keeps the topics on the first few pages, as well as the pinned discussion page, to allow new recruits like yourself to see that its constantly having new contributions etc. Thanks Thrash for the updated links/list btw, most impressive. I have gotten to work on my Barracks as I have finished my Tapestry entry Im off! -
Hey mate, thanks for the lovely words. Spoken like a true Dragon afficionado Basically, I was mucking around with another design based on a minifigure, then discovered a cool dragon picture whilst surfing the net. Saved the pic and shrunk it down to 64 x 64. I decided to build the largest part first to see if I had enough bricks. As it turns out 482 was the limit for small black bricks. I still had enough of the others, but didn't feel the need to BL black bricks so close to chrissy and the deadline. Besides, I was happy with how it looked so decided it was done. I then loaded the shrunken picture into Paint.net and enlarged it 1200%, this allows you to see each pixel. From here, I had more than four shades of grey, but I averaged it out in my head (as I wasn't savvy enough to find a way to narrow the grey scale to only 4) Averaging it out in my head took a lot of time as I often got lost in the pattern. It was always nice to take a step back and check it out from a distance Hope that answers your questions.

Hi Eurobrickers, Here is my 1st ever tapestry, constructed for the classic castle competition. I used up all my 1 x 1s fairly quick building this behemoth. If I only were to use 1 x1s on a 482 it would take 2304, which most would struggle to own, fortunately there was a fair bit of black background I will post a small pic as well as the larger size, which you may want to view from the other side of the room. You can find an even larger copy here at my Flickr Cheers, now I promise to finish my EBCCB Barracks next.

Great story to accompany a really nicely designed MOC! The loom looks fantastic, as does the fire place. Perhaps if you have some light grey cheese slopes for the sides of the fireplace it will look smoother. The tapestry is very nice on the wall and bed. The characters set off the story well too. Great work, though it looks like your walls aren't pushed all the way down, must have been the recent earthquake in Comm Castle land Thanks for sharing again! -

50 is the number on the floorplan that corresponds to courtyard, perhaps you should recall that as you are down on the list as building that module Im happy either way the inspiration takes you, sorry I couldn't steer you in a direction you wanted, its just all the ideas sound cool. mmmmmm hedge maze, sweet! Im off to check out 'mums' entry. -

So are you making it as 50 Courtyard, or other castle grounds between the keep and main walls? If its outside the keep you can make it on a few baseplates, fences maze etc. If its the courtyard, perhaps make it more organised and formal with defined gardens and angle etc like you already have. Sounds good, can you post them into the Beta Thread as you are now part of that team, Cheers -

Another beautiful creation Thrash! The archery targets are great as are the combat dummies The characters look very nice and the whole layout/training is well thought out. I like the B/W colour scheme too, and there are lots of windows to take in the whole experience. Bravo. -

Hi all, I like Sandy's idea about the ground being a lot more used by horses, cattle etc, so muddy paths could be expected. The Garden itself would have to be a fenched off area to keep the traffic from stomping all the beautiful flowers. Erd, you don't have to raise any of the ground up, its merely to make the garden appear more landscaped than beaten tracks that are around it I guess. -
Im loving it Josh, good to see you are stirring up some atmosphere in the H & A Forum The rooms are great considering the small space you have to work with. Thrash, we should clearly make this module larger for future ref. The woman on the outside is well built and creepy all at once. I can see how some may take offence, im happy to look at it as lego and fun, nothing more

So its just the three of us in this little ghost town at the moment I like what you have done so far Erd, perhaps you could raise it all up on green bricks or have it sunken down in the middle of the base plate with green bricks around it. Another idea is a grass and wood walled maze in the grounds. It just feels a little flat on the ground, thats all. Nice flower beds. As Thrash suggested some statues might look cool, or even a life size chess board in one section. I have started building the Barracks corner module, so far I have the exterior wall built and some ideas for the interior. As far as the CCCVVVIIII thing, Im having a go at the Tapestry section on 64 x 64 baseplates, hoping it will come out alright, fingers crossed. A Festive medieval Chrissy to all who celebrate it. -
A double pleasure. Its always nice to see a well photographed and presented review, and to get a look at a new set before it hits S@H (and Australia for that matter) Thanks for a great read.
-
Thanks for the info Sinner. Josh, the interior/inside castle walls of the building can overlap the baseplate as there is castle grounds throughout the interior. I have no problem with the overlap. Though once you get your ideas sorted out, could you post the final product into your Team's thread. I have placed you into Team Alpha Group Build Topic this stops the boards being overrun by all our creations Good luck with the build, cant wait to see the final product.

Just grab what you want, take it to the layby counter and they will get a deposit (5-10% i think) and then you get a 1-3 months to pay the rest off. They obv keep the stock in the shop till you have paid it off. You will receive a docket which you can take to any checkout in the shop and make payments when you like. -

Hey all. This will please HB TRU has Battlewheel for $49.99 and Hoth Base for $89.99 It is tempting to get a second base, but it would only be for the figures...... -
Looks like the interior is coming along nicely! Well done. Perhaps the lower level could have a ammunition rack for all the weaponry, or even a minibar I always wondered how the troopers got down onto the snow from such a height. Perhaps an extendable ladder out and to the ground is in order for the lower level. Good luck for the rest of the build. ISC

Fantastic work Piotr. I love the dragon, the water flowing out of the well, the fire on the shield and the uneven ground. They all add up to make a great vignette. Good luck.
