LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion
PenPlays replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Aren't all of Ninjago's villain characters, aside from the generals, a bunch of random thugs that happen to blend in seamlessly with the main villain's forces? I mean look at the Ghosts. Most of them are identical, with variances between which of two hats, torsos, and legs they have. Also, for once, it looks like these are the only human villains that will remain human throughout, which is also a plus. -

Thoughts: To start let's go with Shark Attack the Juniors set. I've noticed, this year especially, that the Juniors sets are quite healthy in size, even when compared to last year. This one is no exception. The Shark car is goofy, and charming all the same, and includes Great White, a named villain that is only available in one other set so far. Kai, of course, has a motorcycle. The little dojo is nice as well, and I'm really liking that fencing detail peace at the top. Also a unique Lloyd minifig is a + Spinjitzu Training is so wonderfully simple. It reminds me of some of the original Ninjago sets form 2011. The fact that this includes both Kai and Zane is awesome, and the accessories in this one (Helmet of Shadows anyone? Heck, is that even canon in the movie world?) are quite interesting as well. I was very happy at the idea of Ninjago City themed sets finally being on the way, so when I heard about the rumors for the D2C set, I was hoping there would be something to whet my appetite. NINJAGO City Chase is just that. We get a small, yet stocked, market stall with oriental designs, a baddie, Officer Toque, a new Police Officer character, and, thankfully some casual wear for some of the Ninja, Nya and Lloyd specifically, though in the future we get similar attire for the other ninja. Ham, the market stall owner also has a new style straw-hat, which is most welcome. Master Falls gives off a nostalgic feeling for me, as it reminds me of the old Knights Kingdom II set, Border Ambush. This set is a nice, cheap way to get a variant of Garmadon (love the design) as well as Wu, not to mention an absolutely wild hair component for Kai. Of all the Shark Army sets, the Manta Ray Bomber was the one I was looking forward to the least, but it looks quite screen accurate to say the least. The minifig selection is nice, what with Cole being there, and another character, Shen-Li, who happens to be wearing that new straw hat in another color. There are the typical launching functions on this set, but it looks as if there's a bit to be desired. I'll be waiting to see more images. This one is the least appealing of the wave to me. Nya finally gets an elemental themed vehicle with the Water Strider. This set suffers greatly from down-scaling in order to make the set more affordable, which is a shame for someone who wants to see as much accuracy in these Mechs as possible, but I digress. It appears to be really posable, and features a stud shooter (ho-hum). The minifig selection isn't really anything special. Probably one of the most appreciated things from the trailer we've gotten so far was the Green Ninja Mech Dragon. Unfortunately it suffers, due to the fact that Lego intends for children to play with their product, but at least the set looks similar. This is the cheapest set to get Garmadon in his more familiar attire, and strangely calls Lloyd in his hood "The Green Ninja," despite the fact that he is called Lloyd elsewhere. There seems to be an excessive amount of gearing in the tail, which I would understand if there was something other than a wagging tail. A mixed bag really. Would be open to modifications in the future should I be inspired. The Lightning Jet looks incredible. Though at first glance, it looks rather frail with all the antennas attached to it, but they are locked down by 1x1 hinge plates, so they're gonna have some structure to them. The Baddie selection is phenomenal in this set, but that pales in comparison to the stars of this set... we finally are getting Ed and Edna, who, despite being the first time showing up in a set, one for TLNM no less, manage to retain most of their features from the show... Now that we have prints, I expect a jalopy in our future. You know we want it Lego. Now we have the first TLNM set we saw, the Fire Mech. Unlike the other mechs in this lineup, this one is extremely close to it's movie counterpart, though there are evident differences (the shoulders for starters). It's wonderful that it's so massive. I just hope those knees bend. The citizens in this set are quite fun as well. And now we have the elegant, Tibetan monestary-like Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon. Although rather redundant sounding, this set is truly a sight. It's design is elegant, and features what might just be the best lineup of minifigs in the series (seeing as this one actually includes a bad guy). Speaking of minifigs, this includes all the ninja with their hair! The lions are also an excellent touch. I'm quite curious as to what exactly the "Ultimate Ultimate Weapon" is, as I can't see that blue flame at the top of the building being it, but who knows? The last, but, oh, most certainly not least is Destiny's Bounty. This perhaps flightless variant of the Bounty is the first time we've gotten a fully-fledged, to-scale ship under Ninjago, and offers what may be the only set, aside from the Temple of Airjitzu, to contend for the best set ever to be released in the Ninjago theme over its lifetime. The amount of detail and form creates such a mighty, yet oriental looking vessel that I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on. The fact there even is a below deck makes thing all the better. If I can manage the cash, day one for sure. -

I've never. EVER. Thought I would ever have the urge to buy an entire wave of Lego sets on launch day. I can't even formulate words. EDIT: Gimme a bit to ruminate. I'm gonna go crazy on my thoughts sometime tonight. Get ready. -
Misako's name is shortened down to Koko in TLNM. So if there is ever any info the comes out on Koko, that's who they're referring to.

With Ed and Edna, Lightning Jet is now receiving priority. Well... second priority. The Fire Mech has priority because reasons. -

I actually spoke with Huw on the matter (he added the non-exclusive names to Brickset), and, yes, the non-exclusive names+numbers are legit. -
The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
PenPlays replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I did not go to the Toy Fair. I'm not press. However, you will notice while looking up the TLBM sets, there are hundreds of images and videos that star a publicly shown Ultimate Batmobile. You will also find images of the Silent Mary, which would release within a month after the Toy Fair ended. If you're trying to question my reasoning as to "what has typically been shown at the Toy Fairs," I can say that I've been through these Toy Fair seasons for 10 years. They have always been this way. A reminder that a D2C set is only revealed via press release (and sometimes an event) within a month of its eventual launch, specifically so competitiors can't rip Lego off (Lepin and the like). Why is it that they've allowed us to see the Ultimate Batmobile, then? It's because it's not at that tier. It's the flagship set of the line (like Benny's Spaceship before it) and will be produced at the same scale. -
The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion

No. It was at the Toy Fair (which only shows normal sets, and D2C sets that are already released to the public, or one that will release publicly within a month of the Toy Fair event. The Ultimate Batmobile applies to neither of those), and will be available through all retailers on launch. -

Yeah, that Reddit user who posted the internal documents said that it was a prank for April Fools. He reposted the image earlier today, and had this to say. Though there is an apparent Lego Store Employee saying this, yet I'm sure we all know how credible they can be.

Exaclty. I spoke with CM4Sci on the matter, and he confirmed that the names are legit. The "Temple of the Ultimate..." has an odd name because it's too long to fit on the original source's webpage (or at least the spot reserved for the name.) In other words, that's not the full name for the set. -

The 2-3 sets were theoretical (they have since been removed). Then the other names are retranslated from a website, meaning everything might not be entirely exact. In Brickset's case, they shouldn't be posting these preliminary names in general (and no, Huw, wouldn't be the one to do that, as all of his editors can edit the database, and he knows better). They should only be posting the official names when an official batch of names go live (Temple of the Ultimate... what? Ultimate what? That's a mistranslation. Shouldn't be on Brickset) Now those couple theoretical sets have been rumored to be the Shark sets, yes, but they're still rumors, despite their reliable sources. When Huw does add names to the website, and they are the source of said names, then yes, they are legitimate, or they wouldn't have posted them in the first place. It's happened on only a few, very rare occasions. -

Yes. It keeps things secret from their competitors, and keeps the licensors that force embargoes happy. -

But not the theoretical names. Whenever you update the website with theoretical ideas, you end up disappointing the community. Everyone believes that Brickset is an official source. If you're adding unofficial info, you're tricking hundreds of thousands of people into thinking that something might not actually exist. It would be better if you would leave them blank (and not just Ninjago, other themes as well, please) and not confuse people. You're disappointing the children that look up to Brickset as the real deal. And then what? A rumor that suddenly doesn't exist becomes a problem Lego never intended to have in the first place. -

Destiny's Bounty is the biggest set. Destiny's Bounty is the biggest set. Destiny's Bounty is the biggest set. Destiny's Bounty is the biggest set. Destiny's Bounty is the biggest set. Oh boy. Just gimme pictures. That's all I want. I'd suffice for another trailer, but oh my goodness I can't wait. -

And it will be exclusive to some inaccessible part of Africa from a merchant who just so happens to be franchised with lego. Then they'll show up at Legoland Discovery Center instead, and due to their incompetence in limiting resellers from buying bulk you'll only be able to find this set online for a massive sum of money. Reminder that this is a toy with a reseller market that I'm certain has burst it's market bubble. Why do they let this happen? -

Incredibly so. I can't believe that this proof-less rumor is getting as much news as it is is preposterous, and very juvenile of an otherwise respectful Brickset. For all we know, it's just Blocks pulling a publicity stunt. Ultra Agents and Chima got something similar. The Legends of Chima buildable figures for 2014 only released in Europe whereas the entire Summer 2015 wave of Ultra Agents were only released in the US. -
LEGO Nexo Knights 2017 Discussion

The thing is that Atlantis and Power Miners were nearly 1-year-long themes. Almost. Space Police 3 and Ultra Agents would be the only themes in the past 10 years where I would say they legitimately got 2 years. I think it may have something to do with only giving the former themes a normal theme's budget, yet still having to pay for media to be produced for it (therefore presumably cutting into the theme's lifespan). Of course, no non-licensed theme has ever gotten a devoted fanbase similar to Ninajgo since, and there may not be another while Ninjago is still around. -

*3 years Big bangs typically last 3 years Although sometimes those "third year sets" are just one wave (Ninjago 2013 initially was that way). Chima's last wave hit in May, which would still be considered a first half of the year wave. This was despite a wave releasing in the winter as well. I think it would be a stupid decision to discontinue Nexo Knights without completeing the story. You don't need an entire third year to do that either.
