Whoa, what? Over 40 Middle-Earth sets? Where on earth did you get that number? By my count there are only 26 (12 LotR and 14 Hobbit). I guess if you include exclusives, promos, and polybags, then technically there are over 40... but as for real sets there aren't even close to that many. And if you ARE going to include all those extras for the Middle-Earth franchise why didn't you include the 2 Castle accessory sets released which would take the number of recent Castle stuff from 5 to 7 sets? Those are more like official sets than the limited promos anyways. Personally I don't see the issue regardless. Sure there have been a lot of Middle-Earth sets released recently but guess what? Lego is probably never going to come back and do anymore sets for the franchise. Compare that to Castle which already has hundreds of sets released, and will release hundreds more, and the LotR and Hobbit stuff seems like a drop of water in the grand scheme of things.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
Deathleech replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would enjoy that as well. Something like the old Ray Harryhausen films with the clay creatures would be great (Jason and the Argonaughts, Clash of the Titans, etc.), but more general and focused on the soldiers and mythology.- 451 replies

[SWvsM] - category B - These aren't the droids you're looking
Deathleech replied to Borex's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Haha, that's pretty clever using the Iron Man helmets for droids. Very nice! -
That's a good point and I can understand where people are coming from looking at it from that perspective. It just seems weird to do a CMF for Angry Birds considering they aren't really minifigure-like at all. I mean they are basically just shapes like circles, triangles, etc. with some distinguishing features and done in different colors. Angry Birds figures seems more suited to other toy companies like Mega Bloks or K'nex who excel in offering tons of different molded figures, while the levels seem more suited to Lego with solid building? Who knows with the movie though.

I think Marvel and DC have blown LotR out of the water. Almost every Marvel movie get's at least 2-3 sets, with the last Avengers movie getting 5? According to Brickset, DC and Marvel have over 50 sets released... each. Of course that number includes promos and polybags and such, but that's still over 30 normal sets per theme. LotR only got 12 and the Hobbit got 14. That's not to say there aren't a lot of Middle-Earth themed sets, it's just Middle-Earth is fairly expansive so it feels like Lego left a lot out. I could have easily seen them going four or five waves with LotR alone and still not including anything remotely similar in their sets. To get back on topic, I just can't see Lego doing a CMF series for Angry Birds. Why would they focus on one of the less appealing aspects of the game with a CMF when Lego is perfectly suited for all the launching of birds and destruction of the environment?! Heck, Lego puts flick fire missiles and catapults in pretty much every set they possibly can, even when it makes no sense. They will put a flick fire missile in the middle of a random wall to fit one into a set. With Angry Birds they could actually play up their flick fire missiles and catapults by having the birds fire at sets and knock them over. The sets could then be re-constructed in different ways. Why would Lego pass that chance up to focus on the birds who are mostly just round balls in a CMF series?

Lego themes that we would like to happen
Deathleech replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would love to see a wave or two (or three...) of Lord of the Rings CMFs. All the Fellowship, tons of soldier types from different factions, the bad guys, etc. That or a nice Minas Tirith set with army builder, a Balrog, an Oliphant, and a Witch King on Fel Beast vs Eowyn set are all top picks of mine if a third wave were ever done. If we are talking new properties, then Game of Thrones. I know the chances of it happening are zero due to the mature content, but I think it would be cool seeing the dragons, White Walkers and wrights, dire wolves, and of course all the main characters and their armies/houses.- 451 replies

I really like this MOC! It's fairly "simple", yet has tons packed into it. The walls being taller and appearing closer to as they do in the movie is nice. The hole in the wall, as others have said, is fantastic looking. I also like all the small details like the Uruk-hai swords being used at the top of the ladders as the hooks and the custom Uruk-hai pikes. You have a lot of Uruk-hai Berzerkers. Did you buy a bunch extra? Are those brown Rohan helmets custom?

Construction sets would make the most sense considering how easy it is to assemble and disassemble with Lego. I could see sets with lots of beams and pillars only being connected by one or two studs making them come apart really easy when you fire a bird at them. I dunno if a CMF would be that popular considering the birds limited features.

It amazes me how some people don't see the value in a set or theme simply because they have no interest in it themselves. Personally I don't like Doctor Who and could care less if Lego sets ever get made for that particular franchise, but that doesn't mean I am going to go around bashing Lego for making them. Obviously there is a huge fan base and it should make Lego lots of money. That money in turn allows Lego to create new sets and take chances they might not otherwise be able to take. It also allows for more complex printings and moldings. You wonder why Lego would make an "unimaginative" set based on The Big Bang Theory? Well lets see... it's the number one comedy on television and gets over 15 million views, per episode, in the U.S. alone. Why WOULDN'T Lego make a set based on such a popular franchise? It's going to appeal to millions of Lego fans and might even bring in tons of new fans. People want their favorite actors and actresses in Lego form, and a model that replicates a popular scene from the show. I don't see how this is any less imaginative than taking a bunch of bricks and copying birds with them, or the Mars Land Rover? It just seems like people are being bias because they themselves aren't that interested in a theme.

Since the original question seems to already be answered for the most part, I have another about the rubbery pieces (mostly seen on the CMFs). Will this rubber crack and degrade over time since it's not the hard ABS plastic? Will it lose it's clutch moreso than other parts? I already noticed it has very little clutch power as is, and that's on brand new pieces.

Or even a satyr. Make the cap brown and the horns a lighter tan, put it on a brown colored minifig head and it would be a fairly convincing satyr I would think.

Action/Fantasy - Lord of the Rings (specifically Return of the King) Comedy - Step Brothers

I hear this all the time, or vis versa where it is too tight, but I think this is just AFOL paranoia kicking in. I have seen some Lego minifigures from the exact same set that are too loose or tight and they are NOT made in China or from Chinese plastic. Sometimes molds or pieces aren't perfect and can come out a fraction too big or small making them much tigther or looser when you assemble them. Usually it's not noticeable, but if you get an exceptionally small hole on a head (for example), and an exceptionally large neck, it can be noticeable with how tightly the pieces fit together (or how loose if they are opposite ends of the spectrum).

I absolutely love when people take sets, add to them to create MOCs, and they still look like they could be an official Lego product. This looks really good for limiting yourself to only using 2 Council of Elrond sets plus some extra pieces. Of course it could be bigger, but most of the Rivendell MOCs we see also use over $200 in pieces at minimum.

Enchanted Forest Diorama - Arte em Peças 2015
Deathleech replied to cesbrick's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That is absolutely incredible! Seeing a bunch of your MOCs come together on the beautiful landscape gives a real sense of awe. To make the forest look more lush, you could have possibly made it 6x12 base plates or something so there was less blank room to landscape between the castle and village, but I think the forest still looks plenty dense. -
I am aware of that and I agree, but I was addressing people wanting specific factions brought back. I don't think there have been many (if any) people in this thread saying "hey the new 2016 Castle theme should have lions as the crest again, just with new colors!" In fact it seems to be quite the opposite with people NOT wanting the lion re-used no matter if it has a different symbol and colors. What they are asking for is Forestmen, Black Falcons, etc. brought back. They want the same or very similar color scheme and icon used to past versions. I don't think most people who want the Black Falcons brought back want a different symbol like a falcon head with a crown and a totally different color scheme like purple and yellow. They want the old falcon with black, gray, and blue, just slightly updated if anything.

Lego seems to like to pick up licenses when they are past their prime though. Especially if a new movie is coming out. Case in point? Getting the LotR license, which is over a decade old, when they got the Hobbit license. Getting Simpsons when it's nearing it's end (?). Now they are doing the same with Angry Birds.

Thanks for the links. Most of those didn't show up when I did a search on the Eurobricks forums because they didn't have the necessary tags.

The title says it all. I searched for a topic like this but was unable to find anything. I am wondering if leaving Lego pieces/sets assembled causes them to lose their clutch power over time? If so, does it come back when you take them apart? Currently I have all my LotR and Hobbit sets assembled and displayed in glass cabinets. I have all of my Lego minifigures lined up on base plates and stored in containers. I keep them all assembled because I am anal and worried they will get scratched up if I just throw them all in a tub together, or break them down and store them by parts in a jumbled mess. At the same time though, I noticed on the minifigures especially that they seem to be losing a lot of clutch power in their feet where they are connected to the base plates. This makes me wonder if all the pieces are losing it being assembled for extended periods of time.

When I said Lego doesn't seem big on bringing back past factions, I meant the exact same color scheme, crest, etc. I never said they didn't re-use ideas or animals. Just because they consistently re-use the lion, doesn't mean it's the same faction as prior years though. Lego often uses the lion on the good guys because it's usually seen as a noble and powerful creature. It's very regal. Dragons on the other hand are often representative of the bad guys. People were wanting specific factions brought back like the Black Falcons and Crusaders, not another lion faction or what have you. If you look at the color schemes and even the lion itself they aren't very similar from one faction to another. One year you have a lion head with a crown on blue and silver shields, the one before that was a full bodied golden lion on a red and white checkered shield, and years before that was a full bodied blue or gold lion with a crown on a gold or blue shield with a red border. None of these look ANYTHING alike other than featuring a lion. Therefore I don't think they are meant to be the same faction. If they were, why not just update the lion a bit but leave the shape and color scheme the same like the did with the Black Falcon: As opposed to the following which look NOTHING alike except for featuring a lion:
-
They re-use the same animal a lot (lion), but that's about it. I don't think it is meant to be the same faction as the color sceheme is usually pretty different? The last lions color scheme was blue and silver as opposed to red and white or red and blue like previous factions:
-
I know, but I don't think it very likely of Lego. They don't seem big on bringing back past factions, much less mixing them with other factions and settings. Plus that was just an example of totally different things people in this thread want. You also have some wanting more civilian themed sets like MMV, some wanting different castles, some wanting more advanced building techniques, etc.
-
Of course, that's inevitable. Half the people in this thread want a return to the fantasy theme while the others want a more classic castle theme or faction (like Forestmen, Black Falcons, etc.). Lego can't make everyone happy.
