  1. I spend about 1/2 on bricks and pieces and got that message. That really kicked my butt, but I never want to complain about because I'm nervous about them canceling this service at some point (mostly because I have to think running this service is more of pain for Lego than it's worth). Anyways, I spoke to Lego customer service as I was hoping to have them order a few things and the I spoke to talked me into clearing my cache and trying again. Sure enough that worked. It's a spotty system at best, but the ability to get some of these elements all from the same place at less than Bricklink prices is just so nice.
  2. I probably missed a post... But assuming your stuff is molded and not 3-d printed then?
  3. I like this. thanks for sharing.
  4. OK, OK but still Original $2 got you: Legs, torso, head, hair, printing, packaging, insert, 1 accessory Additional $3 gets you: Plastic upgrade, IP license, up to 5 extra pieces, some additional printing, possibly a new mold. (and insert downgrade) I don't know.. original $2 seemed to get a lot more than the additional $3. Just saying.
  5. If series one was $2 in 2010, I'm really not understanding what now costs $5. Yes, there has to be some extra for the licensing, better plastic (series 1 was substandard) and some dual injected parts. But does that really account for 2 and half times the cost? It would be really interesting to figure out how that $5 really breaks down between R+D, molds, parts, printing, and licensing fees.
  6. Just to be clear, it happens like this: Coworker sees a Lego sign on my desk, and says "Oh do you like Lego, my kids used to love Lego" Me: "oh really? I take it they are not interested anymore? Would they like to part with their collection? It would really make my day" And then a week later co-worker brings in a tub or duffel bag worth and says "Here you go, I'm just glad they are going to someone who appreciates them" If you get any Lego like this, feel free to send me a 6% commission. :)
  7. Both services have their pros and cons. If Lego wanted to, per se, do a limited run of blue clown hair or unprinted beehive hair, Bricklink would make more sense for something like that.
  8. Here is the real question: What happens when Lego opens a store on Bricklink. They could conceivably put things on there that would make me very broke, but also tick off a lot of Bricklink sellers. Would they be under any obligation to reveal who they were?
  9. Most of my big score have been by word of mouth. If you of anyone who has kids in the 16 to 22 year old range I'd ask if they have any Lego they want to part with. On on number of occasions I've had people just give me storage containers worth. My sister has also my a couple crazy scores on CraigsList. But I think that depends on the area. I'm in the New York area and everyone here seems to think their common Lego sets should be fetching collectible prices. I might also leave at a thrift store or two.
  10. Well, now instead of indirectly profiting from marketplace manipulation, they would now directly profit. Again, on a very small scale, but makes the practice of artificial rarity that much more sketchy.
  11. I'm not understanding this thread at all. Bricklink allows you to search by quantity as well as price and will get you exactly what you want. Most of these torsos are also available on Bricks and Pieces.
  12. OK, so I've only read about half the postings on this so apologies if I repeat something. I will applaud them for asking a couple very tough pointed questions (though most went unanswered). My favorite was about the conflict of interest: I don't understand how Julia doesn't understand this is a problem. Lego creates figures that are artificially rare, then instead of making $2 profit, makes $20 to $30 commission on something that costs pennies to produce. While I will concede that I'm sure there much worse reasons they do this (namely exploiting complete-ists to drive perceived value in their product) ; it just makes artificial rarity that much more sketchy. Counter point: If this spells the end of catering to scalpers (and ultra rare figures), then I'll be a big fan of this acquisition.
  13. Not to turn this into a thread about the show.. but.. Perhaps one of the reasons I like the Mandalorian is because it feels more like the original Star Wars. This is sort of a funny way to look at it, but I wonder if having a TV budget (albeit a big TV budget) helped force the producers to shy away from too much CGI.
  14. I find interesting that your not using the gun from the set. In the show I absolutely loved the fact that the Mandalorian uses the gun from the Christmas Special. In the set though, the gun is mailed in (IMHO) and really deserves a mold.
  15. I'm about two and half seasons into this series and really like it. Clearly they don't have the budget of something like Game of Thrones, but they certainly do the most with what they have. You figs are great. Uhtred is instantly recognizable. Are these pad printed, UV or decals?
  16. Are these Lego or Lego compatible? They have a couple figures Citizen Brick never did which is nice.
  17. Two things I always try to consider. 1. Put it behind glass to cut down on the dust. Dust is by far my biggest issue with displaying anything. 2. See what Ikea has. They make a lot of great display cases at a faction of the cost that I've seen else where. For about $130 you have about 5 or 6 options for glass enclosed cases.
  18. I would honestly just like to see them do less of them (stickers that is). And for the MOCers, it would also be nice to see Lego release a few element sticker packs for specific themes besides city. I always think there's room to make everyone happy*. (*except scalpers.. that's the only group I really don't feel the need to appease)
  19. Stickers have been a hot topic on Lego message boards since the invention of message boards. I believe I am in the majority that would rather spend the extra money and get printed pieces. Sticker don't age well, and for those of us who pick up second hand sets, stickers are almost always put on askew. To be fair, I also have printed pieces that look faded, but nothing compared how bad older stickers have worn. Personally I think Lego should reprint stickers and sell them.
  20. Not to state the obvious, but I think there are basically two distinct scales. The standard open back (or what I call 80's style) and the modular style.
  21. Lol. It sure is. I believe that. I buy a lot of sets just for the figures. Particularly superhero sets where about 75 percent of them I feel like are junky builds. But then again, I understand for $30 or whatever it might be hard to design something that satisfies both advanced builders and those looking for play opportunities. (I think those things become more mutually exclusive the lower the price point) I guess my question for you is, are you glad they were bundled and you bought the tumbler or would you rather have just gotten the figures in a small set? (Not taking into consideration Lego's objectives)
  22. I’m not disputing this. Still, I think it’s a little, let’s say, ‘unflattering’ that a great deal of a USC sets value would be in minifigure add-ons. (whether that’s true or not). Take the Voltron set. I still think they should make the minifigures. But I would never say that set needs figures to make up a good deal of its value. I don’t think that would be a complimentary thing to say.
  23. First off.. this is super rude. Yes, it seems the issue is in what "greatly reduces the value of the D2C sets" means. If you take a $200 set and break it into a $180 set and a $20 set, going from $200 to $180 is not greatly reduced. It's reduced appropriately to the value of the figures that have been separated into a separate product. Everything you said seems to imply that you think a UCS model without any add-ons might not be a viable product on it's own. That value on it's own has been "greatly reduced". If that is not what you are trying to say, then yes, I got it wrong. BTW, I never said this doesn't happen.
