That's too bad that nobody got close enough to take a pic of Orthanc, maybe we could have seen Saruman up there
-
In reality, there is no back wall to be built anyway. The back is the actual hill the hobbit hole was made from. Just like for Helm's Deep, we couldn't expect Lego to sell us a mountain...

Yup, that black tower to the lower left of Helm's Deep is DEFINITELY Orthanc. :cry_happy: :cry_happy: There's no way that Smaug will show up in this wave since it will definitely not show up in the first hobbit movie. I've just read the book and...

But why not? Castle has had fantasy elements since the early 90's ! And if you look on the banner on the upper left corner, you can see a red dragon (Smaug!), a dwarf, and an orc!

This is the ONLY set from the line we have seen so far Just kidding. I take it we can consider Lotr/Hobbit into one line. I wonder how the categories on BrickLink will be divided. Well, my nephew is 11 year old, loves Legos, HAS read "The Hobbit", and will probably be slightly disappointed at the title of the set same as I am.
-
Don't ask me. If it was up to me, only two names would fit the set: the name of the actual place (Bag End) or the name of the chapter the scene is from (An Unexpected PARTY)
-
http://www.theonering.net has an even higher resolution pic - you can actually read "the desolation of Smaug" on Thror's map! They claimed they got their pic straight from Lego. According to them, the set will be called "An Unexpected Gathering" As for what I think:   As much as I love the LOTR wave we've got ( got the whole of it), this beautiful home of Bilbo just made me realize how DARK and gray and color-less those 7 LOTR sets were.

Yes, I would love a REAL set that depicts the final jedi duel. Something to make us forget this abomination. :wall:

Well, Lego certainly have great people in their marketing department. In the last few years they have done everything right when it comes with licenses, timing, etc

Photos of anything Star Wars related you built before 1999.

Those aren't mine. The person who created them is maestro s.fujita I just posted some images of MOCs from the link given by Brickdoctor. He did the entire Original Trilogy, be sure to view them all! http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~mbsf/sworde.htm -
Don't forget the elf king, Thranduil (Legolas' dad) And yes, I want the 3 trolls too.

Review: 9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep
SheepEater replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think Lego figures that most of you (not me, unfortunately ) can already use their already humongous selection of "generic human soldiers" from past Castle themes to fill in for Rohan and Gondor soldiers. "Crownies" already show up quite often as Gondor guys in MOCs. -

A long time ago I found some old pics of Lego Star Wars MOCs that some fans created out of the LEGO pieces they had available in the 90s. Unfortunately, I can't find those pics anymore on my hard drive or anywhere on the net. Sure, the minifigs were sketchy, especially a very plain Darth Vader and an hilarious yellow C3P0 but the MOCers did the best they could with the available parts. I'll tell you this though: I remember the spaceships were FAR better than what Lego ended up doing in the first few years (1999-2001). If any of you can find pics of those old MOCs, you're a Jedi. -

I agree with Hive. And I'll go even further: Why can't I use my army of policemen & firemen help to defend the castle, while my construction workers, truck drivers, airplane pilots, race car drivers and various town citizens try to storm it? They could use wrenches, hand-axes, screwdrivers, brooms and shovels as weapons. (Prior to LOTR, I had 0 castle sets apart from 3739 Blacksmith Shop) -
Anyway. Now everybody's REALLY, REALLY anxiously waiting to see what Thorin looks like in Lego form. We really need a second Bilbo minifig (adventure mode), as well. Like they did with Frodo.

Review: 9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep
SheepEater replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wise wizards (Dumbledore in Harry Potter/Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings) mentor and guide the "little" people (children/hobbits) who are short on wisdom but tall on courage. The evil sorcerers (Voldemort/Sauron) are weak in the beginning of the stories and must be prevented from regaining the power they had lost. Voldemort and Sauron attempt to acquire magical objects (the Sorcerer’s Stone/the One Ring) that can make them strong again. Possession of the Sorcerer’s Stone has given Dumbledore’s 666-year-old friend, Nicolas Flamel, the key to immortality; similarly, the One Ring has enabled Gollum, a hobbit, to live for more than 600 years; and Bilbo, the hobbit who acquires the Ring after Gollum loses it, has also lived a longer-than-normal lifespan. This was only a small paragraph from a very long essay. I'm not gonna copy the whole thingt here, here's the link. http://greenbooks.theonering.net/guest/files/050102.html -
In the "LOTR/Hobbit Future Sets" thread people discuss the importance of some dwarves being heightened in the upcoming films. I think it will be the case. ESPECIALLY Bofur, who's played by James Nesbitt, very well known actor in the UK. I have just finished reading the book, so it's fresh in my mind, and

Are you serious? You're comparing Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings? JK Rowling flat out STOLE most of her ideas from Tolkien. Personally I couldn't be happier that Lego finally ditched that sorry license. -
LotR Minifigures with Different Head Pegs
SheepEater replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Keep in mind that the very old 80s-early 90s design is a full, normal, raised stud, as seen on all normal Lego bricks, while the newest filled design is a stud that is much like the ones we see on technic bricks (all lengths) and 1x2 jumper tiles. -
LotR Minifigures with Different Head Pegs
SheepEater replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Deathleech: Same deal as yours... my 2 Mordor Orcs have the 3 bar design, and every LOTR fleshie, Moria Orcs, Nazgul, Lurtz & Berserker have the filled head stud, and 2 out of my 8 generic red Uruk-Hais have the 3 bar design. One of those 2 came from Orc Forge, the other is either from 9471 or 9474, I have no way to find out now. It's strange that you didn't know about the change, look in your collection for any minifig from 2011 or 2012. All of mine have the filled stud. EDIT: Well maybe forget what I said about 2011. The only 2011 set I have here in my appartment with a minifig in it is 5771 and I bought it this year, so it may be a late run batch of set. -
LEGO LOTR / The Hobbit release dates and availability
SheepEater replied to Fives's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Well, I could see Lego not wanting to have the 3 main characters of the story (Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin) in the same set , unless it's an expensive set. And yes, I agree, some dwarves (ESPECIALLY Bofur, who's played by James Nesbitt, very well known actor in the UK) might have expanded roles in the film. I have just finished reading the book, so it's fresh in my mind, and
