Heroica RPG - Quest#100: To The Tower of Babel
Khorne replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Believe me, this city isn't exactly like I imagined it either," Eric said, though his failure to appreciate the city stemmed more from the fact that his coin purse was too empty to actually enjoy the vices of the Vega as he had wished. "Losing a relative is always hard, but that's no justification for pushing something as sweet and fine as you in the dirt," the Nord continued and now put on a charming smile. "Let's get out of here then, you and me. Start anew. Turn the page and leave this life and city. Right. Now." -

When the blonde woman fell at Eric's feet, he quickly disregarded Althior's cautious words not to mingle in the affairs of others, especially companions. The Nord grinned and let out a slight chuckle. He got on his knee and helped Periwinkle get up. With a warm smile he cheekily said to her: "Yeah, I tend to get that effect on women sometimes." As the woman looked up to him he noticed her tears. Eric drew Periwinkle closer to him and tried to console her, softly doing away with her tears with the back of his hand. "Hush, hush, now. No need to cry. Are you alright? What seems to be the matter?" The Nord tried to act genuinely interested in the girl, perhaps he would be able to lower her price if he managed to console her or solve any of her problems. Or perhaps she might be of use to him in solving the mess he and the party were in. In any case, it probably couldn't hurt getting the hot blonde on his side. -
This looks awesome! When I saw the first picture, I didn't even need to read the description to know Warcraft was your main inspiration here. Great job ! It looks suitably "barbaric" with all those spikes and skulls. Nice use of those dinosaur tail pieces to get that curvy look in your buildings. You did an outstanding job here. I love it, both the tower, tent and the minifig cast.

Like his questmates, Eric made sure his appearance looked ragged enough to pass as a bum and then decided to hit the streets, hoping the crowd would cover his presence in Vega. -

Eric strode towards the back exit. He was disappointed in the inn. There were no drinks, no place to sleep and found almost no information. The Nord was truly in Vega, the City of Sin, but he didn't have any coin to enjoy its vices. He almost felt sorry for himself. Almost, though, because truly feeling sorry for himself would be pathetic. He was still the brains and brawn of the party in his eyes, so he got that going for him. He grinned deviously. "Bra, let's get out of here. Let's go find that Tower. We ditch the dwarf. He's weak, both in the mind and in physical strength," he raised an eyebrow and chuckled. Pointing his thumb towards his broad chest he said, "my opinion? They dropped him on the head when he was small,..er, small-er." While he stood in at the backdoor, he stated quite reassuringly, "besides, he told us himself he wanted us out of his life. He called the guards, let him deal with them. Not my problem." Eric's grin slightly subdued, but it was still noticeable. His eyes, however, burned more prominent with childish pleasure now. -
Thanks guys! I'm glad you like him . Eric is kind of a mean guy, but essentially he has got a real joie de vivre, he likes doing the stuff he wants to do and just making most of life. It's just that the stuff he likes kind of deviates from what is considered "normal", because as you've already said, he has a very different view on things, since he's from a different culture and has a different background than most. Also, the fact he likes to belittle people and that arrogance is in his nature makes him look bad, as well . But thank you for liking him, anyway  . I like roleplaying Eric's stubborn nature and natural distrust of all things non-Nordic, but in the end I always do try to follow your lead, as I can very well imagine it to be kind of difficult for you if everyone is just running around and doing their own thing. I want to keep it fun for all. That's the most important bit, after all. Like when Lord Duvors said that he slapped Sarge and Eric in the face, I would've wanted to write a reply counteracting that with more violence, but that would've led us nowhere, so I just kind of ignored it (also a dwarf can't hit other people in the face, unless they're crouching, so it wasn't realistic to begin with) . Hahah! Now that you mention it, that search of the barkeeper does have a Master Roshi feel about it! I also like how Nur just cares very little about the petty squabbles of the party and just focuses on his goal: world domination and getting all the ladies through superior magical skills and /knowledge . What's KOoS?

Eric grumbled and then muttered silently, "So no free drinks after all, huh...?". He watched the ensuing chaos unfold with a blank face, a certain coldness having taken a hold of him. His grin was gone and nothing replaced it. He was near-expressionless. Throlar's antics started to seriously work on his nerves. First the dwarf was yelling for the guards and now he's pretending to be running this shit. The Nord rolled his eyes. Someone ought to push the little bastard of a bridge on the first opportunity. Eric waited until Nur had conducted his search of the barkeeper and then picked her body up and lay it over his shoulder. Doing as the assassin instructed, he moved towards the giant barrel and stuffed the corpse in there. (In case it wouldn't fit, Eric wouldn't mind chopping it to pieces to do fit ). When he finished the deed, he stated dryly, with a slight smirk, "Oh no, look at what Throlar did, he dumped the body of the innkeeper he killed in this barrel. Oh my, the horror! What a devious little bastard, that dwarf." -

Eric smiled, he liked the sound of that: free first drinks. "I'll have something strong then. How about one of those Sailor's Boon?" The Nord lay his arm on the bar and while he waited he looked over his shoulder and tried to get rid of the Dwarf. From where he was standing, he shouted: "Dwarfs who can't handle their drink aren't welcome to stay here anymore, so sod off, will you! Go be a pathetic fool somewhere else." It probably wouldn't do much, but at least he tried to lend his input in the situation. No one would be able to claim Eric didn't put any effort in the Party's missions. After some seconds, Eric added: "Hell, if you want, you can even take our Dwarf with you for company. Free of charge. We leave this mess behind as friends." He chuckled at his own cleverness. -
Whoops! Sorry, never noticed it

"This is a tavern. It's bound to have some rumors, right? Especially in a city of this size. The only city of this size around these parts." -
Are you sure they are indeed armor? They kind of look like actual torsos molded that way. Then, on the other hand, I know nothing of Hero Factory or Bionicle, though, so I could very well be mistaken ..

It's not just the tree, all of the scenery we've seen so far is really well-done . I've said it before, though, too bad about the quality of the pictures themselves .

Eric raised an eyebrow. "You really don't know why they deal with me?," The Nord flashed his teeth in a wide grin. "I'm just tons of fun, dwarf!", he said and made wide gestures with his arms. He then added a more vicious remark, accompanied by a wink in Throlar's direction: "Plus, I don't look like a toddler with a beard". -

"I get along fine with everybody. Seems to me the problem here is you, actually," Eric said only half-interested and shrugged. As usual, he was so smug and full of himself, he didn't even notice what effect his behaviour had on Throlar. Or any other being, for that matter. -

"To be honest, what you can get us kind of depends on your prices, Grimelda", Eric answered. He hated it to be nearly broke. Intrigued by what the dwarf drank to be drunk for this long, the Nord shouted in the drunk's direction: "Hey you! Dwarf! What kind of drink did you have?" -

Eric spoke to Sarge, just loud enough so the drunk dwarf could hear him, "I have almost never seen a dwarf incapable of properly handling his drink. Pitiful". -

"Is your shopping spree over yet?", Eric said half-annoyed, mostly because of the fact he wasn't able to purchase anything of interest here due to a lack of coin. He motioned towards the door, "Let's head to the tavern already." He hoped the tavern would be more suited to his budget. Else, he'd have to go to the Emerald Palace and take his chances to increase his riches, but gambling wasn't really one of his fortes. -
Wow, great use of those droid arms. I've never seen a thatched roof made like that before, but it sure looks good! The use of 1x2's as bricks also lends to the credibility of the buildings. What an awesome build, thanks for sharing .

Eric searched his pockets, but couldn't find more than 29 gold. For the Nord the prices were too steep. No matter how much he was interested in buying grating stones by the dozens, he just couldn't afford it. He hoped the party would return here and that his pockets would be fuller by then. -

Eric was enthralled by what Vega had to offer andeven more so by the carnal delights Periwinkle promised at the Castle of Hearts. Inside he laughed. If the harlot made a lot more than 10 gold the Castle, then surely she could've lived without being paid the 10 gold by Throlar. It looked like the dwarf got bamboozled out of his money. Eric was glad he hadn't opened his coinpurse, yet. The Nord grinned when Periwinkle winked at him. "I might take you up on that offer, you silver-tongued devil, you". "You need to earn a place in Helvetia, you don't just get there by dying. I haven't seen much that'd allow your stay there," the Nord crudely remarked. -
So might Hugin have a twin brother somewhere called Munin?

Eric's eyes opened at the dastardly magnificence of Vega. His wicked grin became even broader as Periwinkle introduced herself. He was not disappointed: the women were indeed better than those hideous, malformed mutants. He rubbed his stubbly chin and cheekily said, "How about no gold and I give you a tour of my main square later on?", he winked, bowed his head in a faux display of manners and added sheepishly: "Miss Periwinkle". His eyes glistened and his ever-present grin took a more charming form. -

Eric looked up at the many towers and flags of the city that lay beyond the walls. He'd seen and plundered better-looking cities, but this being a god-forsaken piece of land, steeped in magic, it was quite a feat to build anything decent here at all, he thought. The Nord raised an eyebrow though at the sight of the flying monkeys guarding the gates. That, he hadn't seen before. Also, he didn't quite grasp the use of monkeys to protect a city. Eric was sure the apes were no match for his prowess, but the party had seen enough fighting already, so he didn't really care to see if his opinion was correct. "Luckily for you, there are worse things out there than some mutants, otherwise the Babeleth Darklands wouldn't really live up to its fearsome reputation. I've heard a lot of things about these lands, but so far I'm not impressed," Eric bragged arrogantly. "Anyway, thanks for letting us in. We're just a bunch of friends and a dwarf travelling and a night of gambling, drinking, womanising and what have you will be a welcome pleasure and distraction from our arduous journey to our party." The Nord's face clearly lit up from excitement, standing at the very doors of the City of Sin. "Let's hope your women in Vega are a bit better looking than those mutants running about out there. If not, then well, it would seem you actually do live up to your terrible reputation, just not in the way I had imagined." -
Is #93 the longest quest in terms of real time, actually?
