Great minifigures, posing and general atmosphere. I love an immersive build and this one doesn't disappoint. Nice job on the fake lighting!

Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars - General Discussion
Khorne replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
I saw the avatar of the elven investigator on Flickr and I just love the vibe you've captured here, Lord Duvors. I love me a good mixture of film noir/sci-fi/cyberpunk/fantasy. I can't say I've really kept up with all that's happening here, but I just wanted to pop in and compliment you on the builds (and others of course). I like seeing how Heroica 2.0 is developing its own (visual) identity. -
Intelligence report: Monomonto Atakebunes
Khorne replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely ship, like I've said on Flickr. You've really nailed the massive fortress feeling of an Atakebune. It's would've been even more imposing if it were another story taller, but of course that easy for me to say . Great shaping overall, too. I love the smoothness of the curvature. Too bad you weren't able to finish it in time. -
Nice straightforward scene to showcase your figures, which look excellent! I had seen the new torsos floating around in other people's MOCs, but I thought they were customs. Good to learn that these are official ones that can be bought. Hopefully they'll be available on Bricklink as well (but the prices will probably make me tear up ).

AMAZING! I always love scenes brimming with life and this is no exception! Plenty of small interactions and scenes to look at. I like that the blue paint spilled over on the street, for example, but also the mixture of characters going from "Western"-themed to "Eastern"-inspired. The roll of cloth is great as well: simple yet very effective. Yeah, the BDS is visually definitely a nod to the visual style of the Meiji era. I liked the mixture of western clothing with Asian weapons and hairstyles, which I thought would suit certain people in Jiangkai who see Oléon as bringer of "modernization", compared to the more "traditional" or "out-dated" Lotus Emppire (in their minds) . EDIT: Forgot to mention you did a great job on "sculpting" the lion statue too. Nice shapes there.

Lovely build to showcase the new figures. The style is very recognizable. The figures themselves look good and the prints are very detailed. IMO, opinion they're a bit too detailed compared to traditional LEGO print designs which have a cartoonish air about them. Then again, these customs are designed for a different target audience. But I kind of like the cartoonish "simple" designs of LEGO torsos . It's a great exercise in a consistent graphical style.

Another excellent addition to your collection of MOCs! You nailed the middle eastern vibe. The architectural style is great and it was nice to follow the progress of the build. The dark turquoise is a top choice for accent color and complements the tan perfectly. Love the minifigures too, especially the janissary .

Flower of the Lotus - Mini Challenge - RESULTS POSTED
Khorne replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I started designing a ship for Monomonto in Stud.io with the intention to build it IRL as a submission for the Challenge, but ran into time constraints due to a myriad of reasons, chief amongst those a new round of renovations in my house, which took (or takes) a large bite out of my available budget and time . I love the monolithic "fortress on sea" look of Japanese Atakebunes and the likes, or those massive Chinese ships, but I knew my collection was far too limited to ever make anything of such scale. Plus, while BOBS is largely inspired by real-life cultures, there's also an element of fantasy. So, with that in mind my ship was a mixture of real-life Atakebune fortress-style, combined with the idea of Avatar's Fire Nation ships which transports troops and have a loading base in the bow. The design is like 90% finished, save for details. I was going to add some swivel guns, small cannons or some type of ballista for defense. Perhaps also some type of sails for propulsion, because unlike Avatar's version, there's no steam power in BOBS. -

Despite your supposed lack of bricks, this turned out great! I like the ground pattern you can see in the sides, going from brown to green. Plenty of activity to see as well, coupled with some great minifigs and attention to detail.- 12 replies

[COR-FotL-Cat1B] Spectres and Soldiers

That daimyo looks suitably spooky and bad ass! I like how you did the war fan. How are the two tiles connected? -
Lovely array of troops! The nose guard-less helmet on the right works really well as an oriental style helmet. Loving the cavalry .

Beautiful array of soldiers! I really love that rocket system. That build is so simple, yet clever. Great addition! The Ninjago torso and the Captain Hook legs also work wonders. Nice job there. -
Simply stunning! You did a great job at translating the shapes and design of the drawing (and real ship) into Lego. The shaping is excellent, as is the use of color and decoration. I love that you've added explanations to make everything clearer. Probably one of the best junks or oriental ships I've seen .

I liked the Legacy build as well. There's plenty of interesting build techniques and a smooth general style there. I think this build connects easier with an audience? It's very easy to understand what is going on, because of the "simplicity" of the scene and like I said: the excellent choice of expressions and poses. There's something "human" about it. The other one is mythical and because of the usage of white figures, you're limited in terms of expressions (which is also a nice creative challenge on the other hand). That's what I think makes it harder for the other to gain traction, at first glance. You need to read the story to fully understand what is going on. Which tends to put some people off, I guess. Anyway, just throwing in my 2 cents. Like I said: I like both builds in their own way and I'm definitely am curious to see your continuation of the Legacy saga . -

Khorne replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
These are great! I love the stylistic trees. They work really well in this clean context, but perhaps they'd look too kiddy for an actual "realistic" MOC? The bases are also really slick and work so well for presentation. -
[OL - FotL Cat1B] Monomontachi go to war
Khorne replied to Khorne's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks, guys! Thanks! The pose of the middle samurai is inspired by the quintessential "samurai on a fold chair" pictures and artwork, which most likely were also an inspiration for Shogun 2. The pose is so characteristic I wanted to try my hand at it. I even tried making a really simple "folding" chair (narrator voice: it doesn't really fold), but you can hardly see it in the photo. Thanks, NOD! Glad you liked the story. Yeah, definitely work out the shinobi idea. Go for it . The western style armor was inspired by a picture I saw ages ago and which stuck with me. I just loved the juxtaposition of some so traditionally Japanese, infused with Western design. Apparently these types of armor are called 'nanban dou', so if you google that term, there are plenty of cool examples. -

From left to right: Clan Kaneda ashigaru musketeer; ashigaru yari spearman; Kaneda Mori, daimyo; Kaneda Takatoshi, heir of clan Kaneda; Monomonto Minato, nephew of the Shogun - shown here wearing his Madrician style armor; New Style Corps infantry (2x); shinobi Bound by the pact between the Monomonto Shogun and the Lotus Emperor, the clans send warriors to aid the Lotii in the liberation of the Jinzi Isle colonies and complete its conquest. The armies of the Monomonto Shogunate are a colorful and varied bunch, with each clan providing a number of levied soldiers clad in the clan's family colors. While there is a general composition that is usually followed in the makeup of these armies, no two armies are completely identical and uniforms, equipment and tactics can vastly differ from clan to clan. Clan Kaneda is characterized by their diamond pattern mon emblem and red uniforms. Despite being one of the many lesser - descendant - clans of the Shogunate, they are a staunch ally of the clan Monomonto and swear fealty to the Shogun. They are a typical clan, loyal to ancient customs and are known to field a large number of ashigaru foot soldiers, combined with cavalry provided by the noble samurai of the clan. Clan Kaneda is ruled the austere Kaneda Mori, a traditionalist and firm believer in the Monomonto - Lotii military alliance. In the Jinzi conflict he is represented on the battlefield by his son and heir Kaneda Takatoshi: an infamous samurai and expert swordsman. Supporting the myriad of smaller clans on Jinzi Isle is a contingent of the Shogun's forces themselves. While clan Monomonto can also be counted amongst the 'traditionalist' faction, they have nevertheless sent their 'New Style Corps' to Jinzi for field testing. This small corps is trained along Madrician pattern, having learned from their defeat during the first war. They are clad in the blacks of the Monomonto clan and have discarded traditional ashigaru armor in favor of a more simple 'uniform'. The forces of clan Monomonto are led by Minato, a nephew of the Shogun who is in search of fame, wealth and glory to improve his standing back home. Next to the common soldiers, the Monomontachi are also known to bring shinobi or ninja to the field. These are commoners trained in the art of deception, subterfuge, assassination and trickery and are set loose in order to sow discord and confusion amongst the enemy. Clad in peasant robes and carrying concealed weaponry, these men infiltrate the Lotii colonies and agitate the populace against the Madrician occupants and prepare the way for the main army. --- Phew, it's difficult to pour everything I wanted into 8 figures. I wanted to include more, but then I'd lose a cohesive army feeling so in the end I settled with these guys. Could've used some cavalry perhaps or a yumi archer. Too much inspiration and stories to tell .

Everything about this is great. It's brimming with life! Like I said on Flickr: you nailed all of the different expressions and postures. Even without the story, the build perfectly conveys what is going on.
